Your Anticipated Games of 2012
« on: December 28, 2011, 03:22:05 PM »
So with a great year behind us, it's time to look ahead and let us know what you're looking forward to play next year (assuming the world doesn't come to a fiery apocalypse first) Here's some games I'm looking forward to, or have at least grabbed my interest enough to give me reason to be excited for 2012:

Bioshock Infinite (360/PS3/PC)

Perhaps my most anticipated game this year, it all looks and sounds very promising.

Mass Effect 3 (360/PS3/PC)

The closing chapter (though certainly not the last ME game) of the trilogy. In a series of choices and the ramifications of those choices, how then will this one wrap it all up?

Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown (XBLA/PSN)

This is my personal favourite fighting series, so to finally get the expansion that arcades in Japan have had for so long is a godsend. New characters, new arenas, new modes, new moves, more items to unlock. And it's a standalone download release so expect it to be budget priced. Don't even care if it's full price, I want this game.

Gravity Daze (PSV)

If you look at the Playstation Vita you'll mostly see a lineup of sequels or remakes to long standing IP's. That's fine, but I always found the best handheld games are those that were newly introduced IP's, an original concept and could only ever be done on a handheld (e.g. The World Ends With You). Gravity Daze looks to be the best example of that yet. Created by the mind behind Silent Hill, it looks to be an action-adventure game with an interesting mechanic, the manipulation of gravity for navigation and in combat. It looks gorgeous too, really nice art style. Definately one to keep an eye out for.

Devil May Cry HD Collection (360/PS3)

Ok so it's not a new game by any means, but to have all 3 games, given the HD treatment and with new content added in and achievements? I'm excited.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 (360/PS3)

While people were left burned from the direction that FFXIII took, the sequel looks set to appeal more to JRPG fans by bringing features into the sequel that people were expecting already. Towns, NPC's, mini games, multiple endings and generally more freedom to tackle the game as you see fit rather than running in corridors. It sounds like a traditional JRPG at this point, but I'm cool with that. If I can get all of that on top of the battle system (one of the best I've played in any JRPG) and the freedom to explore XIII's beautiful world then count me in.

That's all I have for the moment. But I will update the thread with more games as time goes on. But I'd like to see other people post what's on their wishlist too!!

lol to me it's about which games I will want to watch on youtube rather than play :( (Except for ME3, which I will eventually get)

So basically Bioshock Infinite... And maybe the new Tomb Raider? lol

I'm looking forward to Mass Effect 3 and Guild Wars 2. I don't pay much attention to gaming news so I don't even know what games are planned for next year.

I'm looking forward to the last hurrah of the PSP. (Hopefully we get a western release and I'll get to play it on a Vita)

Final Fantasy Type-0

Doesn't it look awesome?

And pantsu galore.  Every girl has a personalized set of pantsu.  Portable GOTY.

Games I'm looking forward to, let's see...

- Final Fantasy XIII-2
- Catherine (EU release)
- Silent Hill - Downpour
- Tomb Raider Reboot

Then there's the survival horror game AMY that will be released on XBL/PSN, I have really high hopes for this game and wish the developers luck with it and that it sells a lot.

edit: how could I forget Asura's Wrath?!!! XD

The Witcher 2 (360)

As someone who doesn't even have a dedicated graphics card on his laptop, I'm happy to see a 360 port for what's being called one of the best RPG's of the year.

Syndicate (360, PS3, PC)

Looks like a better looking Deus Ex. Also made by Starbreeze studios who were behind The Darkness and the excellent Chronicles of Riddick : Escape from Butcher Bay so quality will be assured.

Prey 2 (360, PS3, PC)

A futuristic FPS bounty hunter with Mirror's Edge style parkour mechanics? That could work.

Tomb Raider (360, PS3)

The 'gritty' reboot of Lara Croft is at least an interesting concept of survival. Whether or not they can do it remains to be seen. Also, I really would have to wear headphones when playing this one, cause judging from the gameplay trailer, it sounds like a porno XD

SSX (360, PS3)

Fell in love with SSX 3 for the PS2 so HD SSX is no bad thing at all. Looking good so far.

Lollipop Chainsaw (360, PS3)

Because killing zombies in a cheerleader uniform with a touch of Suda 51 craziness can be no bad thing.

^Great list Tuffty!

The Witcher 2 is amazing.  The first Prey was underrated as fuck and is still a blast to play today.  The new direction behind Tomb Raider looks hot.  So much nostalgia from the SSX series...I consider myself a pro at it, lets see how I stack up to the world when the new one releases.  And dat Lollipop Chainsaw looks so crazy it needs to be a day 1 purchase for me.

I was thinking it's a game perfect for leaderboard stuff for races and score attack runs etc. If it had an autolog system like in NFS : Hot Pursuit then that would be cool.

^Oh yeah, it's EA, it better have autolog.  That'd be perfect in a game like SSX.

Quantum Conundrum
From the creative mind behind Portal comes another first person puzzle game. This time, rather than portals, you're asked to use a device that allows you go in and out of dimensions in order to proceed from room to room. Perhaps no surprise to hear it's like Portal but the concept is cool and it looks good.

Max Payne 3
Personally split on this one. I was going to write it off completely because the original developer is no longer associated with it. But Rockstar are instead putting their stamp on it. This video shows that the gameplay could be awesome. The thing that's turning me away though is that they've removed a lot of what made the first two games so cool, focusing on real time cutscenes rather than graphic novel style presentation. Still not even sure if Max is a day person. Will wait and see.

Asura's Wrath
I do love me some OTT action in my games. Devil May Cry and Bayonetta as fine examples of such. This game looks to be right up there. Protaganist with 6 arms? A sword long enough that literally penetrates the Earth? Space Buddha?!

Anarchy Reigns

Speaking of OTT, Platinum Games has to be one of my favourite developers this generation. Their next effort out in a few weeks or so is their first attempt at a multiplayer focused brawler. There's a single player aspect too, but it sounds like multiplayer could be a lot of fun.

Bioshock Infinite
Mass Effect 3
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City
Xenoblade Chronicles
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance

And I hadn't heard of the Devil May Cry HD collection, so I'll be looking forward to that, too! I haven't played them, but I've heard nothing but good things about them... except for the second one :p
