THE PINK☆PANDA is the hottest new J-Punk band around.
There is no finer subject my 1,000th post. :P
I was turned on to them by the incomparable JaisBane, so at the urging of Flyp, I decided to make this thread to spread the Panda love.

i just got their Panda pv from jpop.com today. and i quite liked the song. the bassist caught my eye with her slap bass playing in the pv. they're pretty cute ^^ they remind me of Titan Go King's and Tsushimamire. good girlbandjpunkrock action yeah!!
i was surprised it has a listing of their gear at their website. they seem to know their technical stuff ^^. KOGA uses Elixir strings for her bass, i use the same for my guitar :w00t: yay!! lol. looking forward to their future releases.

They're not dead?
-_- Nope, they put out a DVD in March and have been touring non-stop for most of the time since then, pausing only to spend two weeks recording a new album. English translations of their blogs are available here (http://community.livejournal.com/kumanekoikka/), although I'm a couple weeks behind now due to an amazingly hectic personal and work life for the last two weeks. After they announced their new album I did a show on just them for my radio show (http://forum.jphip.com/showthread.php?p=131716#post131716) and posted an archive of audio rips of their CD+DVD+lvie streaming concert from LIVEcheers! here (http://www.sendspace.com/file/t8jhvg). If there's anyone wants I can up an ISO or rips of the DVD and the wmv of the streaming live.
If there's much interest I also have the three CD-R member photobooks put out for RINA, MA☆YOU, and NANA-A. None of MA☆YOU or Chopper's previous gravia stuff though. Also have one of the movies MA☆YOU's been in, but none of the ultraman episodes nor the movie that Chopper was in.

Did you mean sound quality or just the actual music? If it was from JPS then it was probably some previous rips of it I did. Sound quality the DVD rips were fine but the stuff from the streaming live isn't the best since that had to go 128kbps wma->mp3. If you meant the actual songs, don't know what to tell you, their style shifted away from the pop-rock sound a while ago when they lost their keyboardist and switched to NANA-A from their original percussionist. Now it's all mostly that sort of punk. The Panda mini-album sounds like a different band at times now, probably why they only do about 3 songs off it at shows anymore.

I do admit though, they likely aren't to everyone's taste.

I'm more of a fan of WakuWaku7 and Koi no Mahou than of Panda myself. Guess it depends on if you prefer the newer punk stuff or the older rock stuff.

Their mini-album is all good, but Mayu can't sing live for shit x_o So I meant the singing, not the sound quality.

Wow... this is like the only forum that has a PINK PANDA thread thats active. unlikely place too. I haven't been keeping track of them since their mini album was released. I was hooked after I saw the pv for Panda. Thats the only pv I have so I'm still looking if they have others. Didn't cared much about the mini album though.
For starters I thought Mayu can't even sing.

I like the Pink Panda; they're mini-album PANDA and Pxx&Axx are rather good. It took me ages to find PANDA though - I had crap quality (64kps) mp3 rips of the DVD before finding it. My current favourite song from Pxx&Axx is 'My Little Escape'
They were even the catalyst for me to change from Winamp (had been using for 3+ years) to musikCube (http://musikcube.com) because Winamp couldn't handle the star in their name.

I wasn't really a big fan of the mini-album. But I love their new full length. It's probably one of my favorites this year. You can really tell how much they've grown as a band.

I hate to admit it, but these girls have really grown on me. I've really come to like their full album (I even bought it!). The mini album still sucks, though (except for the song "PANDA"). I've got the new single preordered too. The site does look pretty cool now. Thought the old one was bad.

ConCon Jump is a 3 girl punk band, I forget where they're from. They were on a major label for a while but went indie again if I remember right. Their vocalist's voice is even more screwed up than Mayu's :P In kind of a neat way though. They have some great stalker-tastic style punk love songs. You have to love tracks like すきすきダーリン with the chorus of "Fucking darling" over and over.
Other group I just sort of recognize the name, haven't heard. http://hoifesta.com/hoifile/index.html

Yay new single. It's a power ballad, kind of different coming from them. It has this metal sound backed with a dramatic sweeping orchestra, plus Chopper slapping. Sounds interesting. Feelings are mixed, but I'll wait until I hear the whole thing.
Rina's new guitar looks pretty cool. Has a pickguard that covers the whole body with little holes on it, lol.

And since you linked that picture from it, probably should mention it for people that don't check their site much. They started a mini-web "magazine" about themselves on their site - http://pinpan.jp/?p=magazine Has small photoshoots with each member, a 50 questions and answer segment for each member (the two for Nana-a and Koga are at about 6x the bitrate of the first two they made for Mayou and Rina) plus an interview with the whole group. Keep meaning to translate some of it but other stuff has been sucking up my time.

The magazine thing is pretty cool. The 50 questions thing is pretty interesting. I understood about half of them, but the rest... yeah, lol. I hope they have some footage from their shows and such in the future.

Made a quick sub file for the Rina Q&A. Download the wmv from their site - http://pinpan.jp/wma/rina_0_1.asf - and stick them in the directory together.
Timing is a bit loose since I'm bad at it. It'd be better if there was a subbing program that visualized the audio for you like IIDX notes or PIU arrows or something ^^; Not unwatchable, but could be better. Also not entirely sure I got the place name right for where she said she wanted to go, but since it was a random place I really didn't care.
If anyone wants I'll do a hardsub of the wmv and stick it up for direct DL and on youtube.
Probably do the other ones too, depending on when I have time. Koga one (the Leah Dizon part cracked me up) for sure, Mayou likely, Nana-a possibly.

Has anyone tracked down the PV for Dog Star? I remember watching a preview on the official site, but I've never seen the full thing.
The new single is interesting. Didn't quite like the sample from the site, but hopefully the b-sides are good

Yay new single... Feelings are mixed, but I'll wait until I hear the whole thing.
Just previewed the new single on their website and I feel the same way... PinPan has become my favourite J-band (outside of H!P) and so far I've loved everything by them. This one is no exception, but I'm not 'wowed' by it just yet... Waiting for my copy of the CD to come in to give it a better review :heart: I do love that we get 4 new songs on the single, just like with 'DOG STAR' ~ There's bound to be a gem in there somewhere!

Anyone else disappointed with the new single? Actually, the single before this one was pretty bland too. Still like the full album, so I hope they return to that formula for the next release.

Yeah the recent singles don't really catch my attention as their album did. I did like Dog Star though. The graduation song isn't as cool or fun, but I think it sorta fits the ocassion. It's one of those graduation songs done in PinPan's style.

GREAT!!!! i love them, i found this forum occasionally and when i saw this thread, i had to register!
pinpan is one of my favorite bands, they rock. mayou is energetic, koga slaps greatly her bass and nana-a... well she has a peculiar way for playing the drums. :lol:
i have all their stuff and just dislike their mini-album panda. too pop-ish and kawaii-ish. their other are awesome, specially some songs like go go girl, fly up, monopolizer and mai agare. i have also a t-shirt and a sports towel of them. ^^ i watched pinpan live once, at 28th february. and i'm very proud that nana-a wrote about me and the quick conversation we had in her blog (u can see in the archives, i guess). she is really adorable, she came to me and thanked for my support after the show (i coloured my hair with pink spray that night and shouted a lot!) and i found that so sympathetic... :heart: i also spoke to koga a little. it was difficult because my japanese is really poor and so is their english. :lol:
i won't never forget that night and i hope they continue releasing great stuff. someday i hope to meet them live again too!
*oh, and the new single "wake up" is more punk-ish than the older stuff, i liked it a lot!

Okay, so I listened to B, and it is brilliant! Wow, I've missed Mayu's vocals. Sure, they've lost some of the quirkiness they had as Pinpan, but this is still solid stuff!
And just as I decided to add their shared blog (on the official site) to my rss feed, news tick in on their twitter that the members have started individual ameblo blogs again! Huzzah! Mayu's first post sports awesome pictures too!

Nah, they used to be THE PINK★PANDA, but they split up back in 2009. KOGA (the THE PINK★PANDA bassist) went on to form Gacharic Spin (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=23415.0) with a bunch of other cool girls, while MAYU, Rina and NANA-A (the rest of THE PINK★PANDA) continued on and signed a deal with a major record label. They were re-named BLiSTAR. They've released a mini-album (B), and now this single, 東京稲妻.
I'm glad you like them, though! I absolutely love THE PINK★PANDA, but both of these two new bands seem good too. I've been following Gacharic Spin since the very beginning, but recently got really into BLiSTAR's stuff as well.

Armmy (Gacharic Spin vocalist) really surprised me at first, but I love her voice @_@! It's so refreshing in a way... in that her voice is rather low and not as nasal as most other Japanese female vocalists I've heard. I think she's awesome, and it suits Gachapin' eclectic style very well. As for quiet drums... I haven't thought about that xD;

So did anyone tune in to Suono Dolce? YOU SHOULD HAVE! The radio has a live stream of the studio, so you can see the interview~ they also played the 東京稲妻 PV, and they played both of the coupling tracks on the upcoming single! :O The coupling tracks are awesome, this is a really solid first single from the girls, omg :heart:
Apparently the song "♯つぶやきLOVE" is inspired/about twitter, so that explains the hashtag in the title xD; haha
"この空の下で" reminds me of Pinpan, particularly their later maxi singles :wub:
Funny points from the interview includes Mayu saying that she loves summer, and then being teased by the radio host, because she isn't tan at all. Mayu said she likes sleeping on her veranda :lol: But not necessarily to get tan, she just likes sleeping there :rofl:

My first thought was "poor Rina" - MAYU always seemed a bit of a romantic, so I'm not surprised she went off with a guy if he makes her happy, and Nana-a at least finished college so she has that to fall back on. I haven't heard any news about BLiSTAR in ages, but I do know (thanks to twitter) that NANA-A is involved with a new band called The LEAPS (http://"http://theleaps.net"). Also Gacharic Spin (Koga's new band) is still going strong, despite missing a front figure/vocalist.
