Title: You favorite live-action Anime turned feature film?
Post by: chunkage on July 02, 2007, 06:07:05 PM
The other day, I found a copy of the Anime turned feature film, Lovely Complex, pretty much by chance. It's only a year old, and I was surprised how really entertaining and enjoyable it was. This brings to mind that I'm missing out on lots of interesting, fun movies.

What is your favorite Anime that made it onto the big screen?

Review details, please!

My only real anime turned feature adaption was of Guyver, which funnily enough had a certain Mark Hamill.

What a pile of shite that was!

Stay well away.

Not come across anything else. Has there been many? (other the ones mentioned above).

I'm led to believe the feature film version of wicked city is supposed to be good, but never acquired a copy.

Cutie Honey

Featuring Eriko Sato in the lead and music by Koda Kumi.

It's a silly movie in keeping with the movie. Eriko fits the role perfectly and the movie is able to be sexy and funny throughout.

It's available as a fansub if you keep your eyes open on the popular JPOP torrent sites.

YOU HATED GUYVER?! But it had Mark Hamill AND Jimmie Walker.

I liked Cutie Honey when I first saw it, but I haven't watched it in a long time. It was a silly movie. It's enjoyable if you're not one of those people that has to have a serious deep movie. Of course Eriko Sato looked great in it, but the other chick was cute too. Natsuko or something?

Casshern I thought was okay, but I don't know anything about the anime. The person who told me about kinda hyped it like an action movie, so I was expecting more the first time through. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more action. But after a few more watches I started to like it a little more.

I remember Fist of the North Star being pretty bad, but I only saw it when I was a little kid.

I saw the last few bits of the La Blue Girl movie. It had tentacle rape, but all the sex was only soft core. It'd be more something you watch just to see how bad it is. Maybe a wank or two in the process.:P

I saw Devilman but had no subs. It seemed bad. It had Bob Sapp.

Riki-Oh / The Story of Ricky! One of the dopest movies I've ever seen. This guy just fucks people up like in FotNS.

I think there are some other ones I've seen but I don't remember, so they probably weren't that good.

Seriously though, the second Guyver movie was better than the first, IMO. First one was way too campy.

Oh yeah, I forgot there was a second one. I've heard a lot of people say it was better than the first(Though that probably wasn't much of a challenge), but I still never checked it out.

They were both bad, my sense were in such a state it was difficult to work out if one was "better" than the other!

I also remember watching Fist of the North Star. That was also very lbad. It had some wrestler as the big fat dude, who's stomach gets a waxing... (in true Karate Kid style).

Death note wasn't too bad. But BR was really good.  Would love to Toki wo Kakeru Shojo as live action show...starring someone like Juri Ueno. (although she's too old for the role but the personality fits)

I wonder if they can ever turn Paprika into a live-action show lol.

I thought Death Note was a really good movie adaption from the manga without being exactly like it. In some ways I preferred the movie over the manga.

you really cant expect to stuff in over 5 volumes of books into 4 hours of movie screen time and yet, have the same storyline and ending as the manga now can u?

Prince of Tennis???

But seriously no.

I like Kindaichi shounen no Jikenbou especially 2005 one (actually it is not really a featured film but more like a direct to tv film. it is movie lenght at almost 2hour)

Also i want to watch Meitantei Conan live.

If we're talking manga to live-action film then Ichi the Killer owns this thread.

But if we're talking anime to live-action film then...hmm...I need to think about that more.

they made Gundam Savior a few years back,
it featured multicultural actors like in the anime,
but the only thing good about the movie was that it made a new line of model kits

:P

the Crying Freeman movie starring Mark Dacascos was nice and sexy, if a bit outdated.
it was shown way back in 1995, i think

For me it would be GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka)
First came the manga, then the Live Action and the movie and then the anime version.
 XD Onizuka rulz!

I can't really think of one, but right away this thread makes me think of Street Fighter... especially those Hong Kong funny movies that use Street Fighter characters in them!
XD

However I would like to see animes/mangas like Fruit Basket or Ranma 1/2 make into live-action!

I wish they'd do the rest of the Sailor Moon seasons in live action... but only if they could keep the same actresses. A Slayers live action would be cool too.

Detroit Metal City, starred Ken'ichi Matsuyama and Katou Rosa.  the film was hilarious! A very Great Film!!!  I loved the anime, too. there were more incident/stories.  though I loved the anime more, but the Movie was superb as an adaptation.

Death Note moves were good in their own way; it's a different way to see things compared to the original story (I love when Light told hsi father that his reasons was to do justice...just like he told him since a child)

Ichi the killer is sickly great too! O_O I'm still freaking out with the hooks thing ._. and Saikano!

I don't remember much movies based in mangas (I' think Battle Royale manga was after the movie, so that's why I don't include it in my list), butI wanna see 20th century boys since always! But I haven't found it with subs.

I haven't seen that many but in my opinion Yatterman great at least as far as superhero movies go. It really doesn't try to ground itself too much in reality but isn't too campy like Batman & Robin either. I also liked Sailor Moon starring Miyuu Sawai although some of the last episodes felt too angsty to me. I really preferred the light and fun early episodes.

love it when they do classic manga adaptation:
like chibi maruko chan, with morisaki ei ( i think that was her name) playing maruko
they even got the weird hairdos

but when they tried follow the comic too hard it becomes weird i.e Fujiko F. Fujio no Parallel Space

when is shin chan live action gonna come out?

20th Century Boys was awesome even if the ending was slightly different than the manga.  A lot of the actors looked just like the characters.  Only bad thing is that it's a trilogy and I was toast after watching all 3 the same day at the local film festival.

Toki wo Kakeru Shojo was pretty good also.

Kaiji

Liar Game

Detroit Metal City

Saw Gantz but it was some godawful dub so I will withhold official judgement until I see a nonruined version.

Sailor Moon The Live.  It was so corny and all, but I still love it.  I wish someone would do a historys strongest disciple kenichi live action.

PGSM is the best. I still need to finish it actually.

The only corny thing I thought was the transformations.

I've always wondered what a live-action Digimon would be like, although it would be so hard to pull off. Saber Rider would translate into a toku perfectly though.
