Rachel Bryk, 23, a transgender developer of Dolphin, a Gamecube and Wii emulator, passed away. She took her own life by jumping from the George Washington Bridge, which connects Manhattan to New Jersey.
What prompted Bryk’s decision to take her own life remains unclear; her mother posted on Facebook "...From her own words in many things I read, her illness and chronic pain were the reason." Bryk was plagued by chronic pain, which she told friends was a result of rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia.
Bryk also wrangled with depression because trans-phobic cyberbullying & harassment. ln the days leading up to her death Bryk had discussed killing herself in such a manner on 4chan & the social media platform ask.fm, but anonymous trolls were quick to mock & encourage her. On news of her death, 4chan continues to be filled with hateful comments. one such commenter commented that 'any tranny death is good riddance'.
