(Group) CoCo Forever!
« on: December 15, 2007, 12:33:21 AM »
Starting a thread to honor my all-time fave J-idols: CoCo.

(sitting in back, L-R): Senou Azusa, Haneda Erika, Ohno Mikiyo
(sitting on couch, L-R): Miyamae Maki, Miura Rieko

Like Musume and Company, the group was comprised of gals selected on a talent TV program.  CoCo debuted in summer 1989 and scored a hit with its debut single, "Equal Romance," which doubled as the theme song to the "Ranma 1/2" anime TV series.

Senou left the group in May 1992 to pursue a solo career.  Her graduation concert was an epic affair at the Nippon Budoukan in Tokyo.  The remaining four continued as a group until September 1994 when everyone went their separate ways.

Performances from the Budoukan concert, 17 May 1992 (ripped from laserdisc!):

I think I'll rip and upload the PV for "You're My Treasure" next...

Yep, although I got some other concert clips where the gals are really booging down and sweating some.

Also five gals in a single idol group used to be HUGE.

Dang, wasn't Koharu BORN in '92...

Pony Canyon has the track listing for the first "Uta no Daihyakka" release on Sept. 3.

Three discs, almost Y4,500.  I'm keeping an eye on this but won't dive in completely unless

1) ALL the tracks on both sets (PC's link for the second set is still blank) have been remastered, and

2) They include some DVDs with choice footage.

Thanks for the set Mucca!  I read on Maki's blog that she was doing a magazine shoot for the first time in a decade or so.  Didn't know when it would appear though.
