I think I had this post in the wrong forum/thread so hopefully it fits better here.

Was looking forward to Gantz until I got to the theater for the "world premiere" and it was DUBBED by people who sounded nothing like the actors and seemed to have no grasp of either Japanese or English!  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:      :panic: :panic:

Most of the ppl who would see such a movie were either Japanese or fans of the actors (Ninomiya Kazunari, Matsuyama Kenichi, Natsuna, Yoshitaka Yuriko, Kanata Hongo, etc) or manga so the decision to dub it (with talking donkeys) could have only been conceived by a moron.

Never again will I see a foreign film in the theaters without checking if it's got the original audio with or without subs first.  I will save my final assessment of Gantz until I see the Japanese audio version but the dubs made it feel like a bad kung-fu movie (Kung Pow maybe?) or an episode of Iron Chef.

Looking forward to: Ashita no Joe, Uchuu Senkan Yamato, Koukou Debut, Moshi Dora, Manzai Gang, Paradise Kiss, Patisserie Coin de rue, Shikeidai no Elevator and obviously the AKB movie

Definitely gonna watch Kokuhaku soon. Was looking for a good comedy to make me forget Gantz but a revenge movie might be good also.

Just finished Kokuhaku.  Amazing movie but not really something you could watch over and over again.  Oscar ppl prove once again why I never give a crap about who got nominated or who won one since Kokuhaku didn't make the final 5 nominees for Foreign Film.

Wonder if they put the AKB posters/video in there to imply something or just because they're super popular.

A friend pimped this list on his FB.  I'm wary of aggregation because it's hard to get a sense of the individualism in this project, which I value most in criticism (which is why I disdain and mistrust places like Rotten Tomatoes). I suppose I should be grateful "Battle Royale" wasn't selected #1 by acclimation.

Pretty disappointed after watching the first SP movie.
It was just soooo slow. Think it only had 2 action scenes in the whole thing.
Even though it's just a build-up for the 2nd movie (and a re-intro for new viewers), they could've at least tried to make it entertaining.

And it's littered with dreaded flashbacks... and flashbacks of flashbacks... I know already, you've flashbacked the same scene like 5 times in 20 minutes!

SP 2nd movie trailer looked good though... I'm so easy~ :sweatdrop:

Just saw Patisserie Coin De Rue at the local film festival and loved it! Mostly because of Aoi Yuu being super adorable!
I want her to yell at me in Kagoshima-ben and bake me a cake!  She basically steals the show but there's tons of food porn too!
I wonder if Eguchi Noriko's being typecast as a bitch (I only remember her in 1 Pound Gospel) but either way she's a flawless bitch in this film also.

At the very least, expect to have at least a mild craving for fancy cakes as soon as the end credits roll.

Thanks muppet for the posts on Nagato Hiroyuki. I also liked him in Pigs and Battleships. He and his younger brother Tsugawa Masahiko looked a lot alike when they were both younger (esp. around Crazed Fruit).

Just saw Kamikaze Girls (下妻物語) in class, fun film.

from : http://mubi.com/lists/the-three-big-brothers-of-the-japanese-new-wave                   ........Ko Nakahira burst onto the scene early with the youthful masterpiece, Crazed Fruit, when he was just 30. The film was screened at the Cinematheque Français to the amazement of Truffaut, who up until that time had probably only seen the more straightforward films of Akira Kurosawa and Kenji Mizoguchi........  (to read more, press on link above )

For us fans of the Moteki drama there's some good news, the film is opening up on Sept. 23rd. :) Moriyama is still playing the same character but the women have now changed, this time the 4 female leads will be Kumiko Aso, Masami Nagasawa, Riisa Naka and Maki Yoko. First trailer of it was released today. 8)

New Hikari movie coming out real soon. :)

Today, actress Mitsushima Hikari and director Shimizu Takashi attended the preview screening of their upcoming horror movie, “Rabbit Horror 3D“.

It’s the first horror movie for Mitsushima, who’s  received many ‘Best New Actress’ awards in film festivals worldwide. At the event, she confessed that she is actually quite a timid person. She said, “I don’t like horror movies. I watched one once during junior high school and I couldn’t sleep for a whole week.”

So how did she come to accept the role? Mitsushima explained, “When I read the script, something in my mind told me that I should participate in this movie and that’s why I accepted the offer.”

She then went to describe the movie in her own words, saying, “When watching the movie you don’t go like ‘A ghost! Ahh!’; instead, it feels more like a daydream. I really love this movie. I hope many people will watch it and love it just as much as I do.”

During the second half of the stage greeting, a child with white make-up (similar to Shimizu’s horror masterpiece “Ju-on: The Grudge“) went up on stage and handed some flowers to the rabbit mascot standing next to the actors, as if it were passing the torch to its successor. This odd little moment was supposed to show that Shimizu tried to create a new masterpiece that could follow in the footsteps of “Ju-on”.

When Mitsushima was asked whether she watched “Ju-on”, she immediately replied, “I could never watch such a movie! It’s too scary…” Director Shimizu couldn’t help but show a bitter smile on his face.

“Rabbit Horror 3D” will open in Japan on September 17th.

Rest in Peace, Yoshio Harada (原田 芳雄) who passed away on July 19 of pneumonia, while battling cancer. "The Hunted" (1995) was not even close to being one of the best films he starred in, but still this approximately 5 minute scene surely was one interesting ride on the Shinkansen.....
