Heath Ledger to Play Joker in Next 'Batman'

Heath Ledger will play The Joker in the sequel to last year's "Batman Begins," Warner Bros. studio announced. "The Dark Knight" is set to begin production next year.

Christian Bale again will play Batman. Christopher Nolan will repeat as director.

Ledger was nominated for a best-actor Oscar for his role as an anguished gay ranch hand in last year's "Brokeback Mountain."

"Our challenge in casting The Joker was to find an actor who is not just extraordinarily talented but fearless," Nolan said in the Warner Bros. statement issued Monday. "Watching Heath Ledger's interpretation of this iconic character taking on Christian Bale's Batman is going to be incredible."

I've never seen a movie with Heath Ledger in it, so I can't say on whether he's good or not. But he's been Oscar nominated so I'll remain optimistic about this choice.

Robin Williams, Adrien Brody, Paul Bettany, and some other dude were all going for the Joker role as well. Maybe Heath had some Brokeback Action with the Casting Director to get the part.

Jack Nicholson was awesome as the Joker. I'll so be comparing Heath to him. Can't forget him Taking out a long gun out of his pants and taking out the Batmobile.

The Penguin and Harvey Dent/TwoFace might make an appearance in the sequel as well.

I guess they'll have to add lots and lots of make-up.

No one will ever beat Jack Nicholson's performance as the Joker. I won't believe it until I see if when it comes to Heath Ledger being right for this part. Sure doesn't sound like the right choice to me o_o;;

Very happy to hear that Christian Bale is returning as Batman, though (I think I already knew this, but I have a thing for stating the obvious

). Christian Bale is an awfully talented man, and I really liked his performance in Batman Begins

Batman's not gay. He just likes to have younger boys as sidekicks. He also plays a lot with Catwoman and when he doesn't want to get his hands dirty, he asks his butler Alfred to scrub his back

Yeah, I agree that Jack was the best ever to play the Joker. His portryal was top-notch and I'm still scared of him whenever the flash him during a Laker game.

Joker's one of my favorite villains. It would be a real challenge for Heath to be the Joker but maybe he can pull it thriugh.

they're trying to pull away from Jack Nicholson's Joker and be more faithful to the comic book Joker i think.. he's not supposed to be funny or silly. he's gonna be a damn sick psychopath killer.. woohoo!

i hope they do the knightfall saga one day where bane defeated batman.. that's one hell of a story.. the Bane in batman & robin sucked ass..

Perhaps they should make a movie out of "The Killing Joke" storyline. It's one of the best Joker stories ever, showing the sick side of this criminal and how he came to be.

It's PRECISELY coz he was good at it that I'm still spooked and quite glad that he's The Joker no more. >_<
