Apparently, there is no alimony law in Japan, & the divorced husband don't even need to pay a yen of child support if he gives up all custody of the kids to the mother

So Japanese women end up financially the losers in the event of divorce

I'm confused, because a family friend of ours is Japanese and he is divorced from his first wife (also Japanese) but still has to pay child support until all their children are legal adults.

I don't think Aibon can't legally get alimony. I think the point here is that even if she could, she would have to take it to court first and she doesn't have enough money for that. Especially now that she is practically unemployed, if she can't even feed herself and her child, how can she pay an attorney for child support and alimony?

I know that this is all cultural and business related issue, but I'm disappointed that none of the OGs have shown any public support for Aibon.

It's also very strange that she can't get anymore jobs. Doesn't her contract with her current agency (which has ties with her husband) ever expire?

Yaguchi did a socially-recognized immoral act AS AN ADULT and bounced back like that was nothing.

Kago's first offense was when she was a MINOR. The only part of that act that made it an offence was the fact that she was a minor. Smoking is legal in Japan. and she never really recovered from that. Her second offense wasn't any more scandalous than Yaguchi's. I don't understand any of this.

But yeah, my love for all of the OG(including IY, except perhaps Nono) went down a notch because of their silence on Kago's situation. I understand that she might not have had the best work ethic when she was younger compared to Yaguchi but she was a child then.

I am just disappointed.

^ I don't think we can really put blame on any of the OG members. Like you said yourself, it would be socially unacceptable for them to speak out about the matter because in the eyes of Japanese society, it's basically none of their business. If they did speak out, they could risk damaging their own careers, and they can't have said risk considering they have their own families to feed and such. For all we know, in private, they're giving Kago as much support as possible but there is only so much they can do themselves. They can't exactly help with the court proceedings and such and at most, they can be there emotionally for Kago.

I also compared Yaguchi and Kago's cases and I guess it has to do with the fact that Kago was indeed a minor when she committed her 'offense'. It sounds fucked up, but in a way I think people just brushed off Yaguchi's offense as "Well, cheating happens with some adults. What can you do?" Yes, many underage teens smoke and drink as well, but perhaps Kago's was considered more "shocking" due to her age. This whole thing just goes to show how differently cultures really perceive certain issues.

It really does sadden me still that it only took one picture of Kago doing something that many youths her age at the time do constantly, for her career (and personal life) to turn into such a mess. She had such a bright future, not just as an idol, but an all-around entertainer. I really hope she somehow manages to bounce back from all this and leaves that no-good husband of hers once and for all.

I don't think their silence is a "socially-acceptable behavior" issue but more a contractual issue.

I apologize for not stating this directly but what I meant with public support was not limited to saying something to the press or on some TV show directly addressing Kago's troubles. I meant to include their social media activities. I don't expect the 5kis onward to say anything but 1-4.

I probably just don't keep tabs on anyone's blogs but the last time I saw anyone posting anything even remotely related to Aibon in their blogs was with Nono and that even had a go-between. But the message reached us was that they saw each other somehow. The fact that the post went up means that it was cleared for posting. For as long as they hide her like some kind of embarrassment, she will remain that to the public eye.

For all our hopes for her, all those hopes, as she is now, are not going to come into fruition.

I don't want to hate on their culture, although like right here, I totally am. I'm not even a big Aibon fan but this whole situation is absurd.

There is the humane thing to do and the inhumane thing to do. That transcends culture.

divorce, we at Oricon Style decided to seek a comment from a source related to Kago's agency.
"We didn't confirm it with her directly," the source said. "[Private matters like that are]
her own business."

Earlier in April, Kago revealed in her blog that she was invoved in negotiations with a view
to divorcing her husband, Mr. Haruhiko. Accodring to the reports in weekly magazines, Kago
used her right to withdraw her complaint against Mr. Haruhiko, who had been arrested for
assaulting and physically injuring Kago, as bartering material which allowed the divorce to
be finalized by the end of June.

The agency-related source commented, "I don't think [the reports] are untrue," but also made
sure to disclaim that "[The agency] did not confirm it with her directly. [Private matters
like that] are her own business."

Kago's contract with the agency ran out today, August 4, the source also added. Yesterday they
has a discussion with Kago and an agreement was reached not to renew the contract. "No particular
reason was named" for the non-renewal, the source said. "Will she or will she not continue her
carrer in entertainment? I think yes. Probably she just hasn't decided yet who to choose next [as
her agency]," was our source's opinion.

I've honestly never visited this site, so I'm not sure how good of a source it is, but they have a report re: the interview and Aibon's ex-husband trying to trick her into a porn vid?

I think that's what the purpose really is and maybe just hide away a bit to comfort what she has in her possession. It'll give her time to maybe ease into something approachable to gather for the future
