Thinkpad R52
 - Pentium M 750 (1.8GHz)
 - RAM: 1.5GB
 - HDD: 160GB 5200rpm
 - Video: 64MB ATI Radeon X300
 - Monitor: 15" 1024x768 LCD

It's the lack of video ram that kills me, especially for gaming.  I can barely run Age of Empires III on it.  No way to upgrade it either.  I've had this for less than a year, and already I'm looking for some sucker to sell it to.

Target upgrade: Thinkpad R60 Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz) with 128MB ATI Radeon X1400.

IBM Thinkpads are the best laptops there are but they are designed for work use and not for gaming. Pitty since they have superb build quality and good displays. If your looking a laptop for better gaming experience a X1400 won't cut it. 7600 or X1600 is pretty decent for laptop that is used for gaming. But since the X1400 is the best that you can get on a IBM/Lenovo laptop I say go for it. Atleast it's better than that X300.

Quality 400w psu or even 350w can handle +1TB of HD's easily.

Not much change sinds last time (1 down, 1 up, some modifications)

Desktop: Creative Slix 2GHz Celeron, 1GB RAM, 120GB disk, Matrox Parhelia video (with 3 17" displays at 1280x1024)
Laptop: SONY FJ1S: 1.83GHz PentiumM, 2GB RAM, 80GB disk, 14.4" 1280x800 screen.
UMPC: Asus R2H, 800MHz Celeron, 768MB RAM, 40GB harddisk, 7" 800x480 screen
TabletPC: Compaq T1000 1GHz Crusoe, 768MB RAM, 30GB harddisk, 1024x768
Main Server: ASUS Celeron 2.2GHz, 1GB RAM, 600GB diskspace
Firewall: Creative Slix 2GHz Celeron, 512MB RAM, 80GB disk

I'm not much into gaming (although the Parhelia has some support for some games)

Server: PentiumIII 933mhz, 256mb RAM, 80gb, headless with 1gbit NIC
Desktop: Pentium4 2.4ghz rev B, 1gb RAM, 80gb + 120gb + 250gb + 250gb + 250gb + 320gb + 320gb, 1920x1200 + 1280x1024 dual head on Radeon9600/256mb
Laptop: Centrino 2ghz, 1gb RAM, 80gb, 1280x800 on Radeon9700/64mb
UMPC: Asus R2H, Celeron 900mhz, 768mb RAM, 60gb, 800x480 on integrated
PDA: HP iPaq hx4700, Intel 624mhz, 192mb RAM/internal storage, 640x480 on integrated

im somewhat of a packrat. i also have a 20gb external (encrypted) and a 500gb. if you add up the HDD numbers, i have 2250gb of space (with about 900gb free, currently)

likewise, im not much into gaming (anymore). i do however do CAD/graphics, so while the Radeon9600 isn't exactly powerful, the 1920x1200 is godsend.

^ Counting external drives (mainly USB) 6*500GB, 4*320GB, 10*250GB 2*200GB, 1*160GB, 2*80GB, 1*40GB, 2*20GB

(and assorted CF cards, SD cards, USB sticks ranging from 4GB to 32MB)

Thats about 7TB? I know someone around here has more.

I recently upgraded nearly everything when my pc died on me suddenly after thanksgiving, but I was on a tight budget and so had to settle with an ECS mobo and an XFX gfx card when I would've preferred something a little more name brand.  I don't play many games, so all I care about is to be able to watch hd-video smoothly, which this baby does beautifully.

Those 500GB drives are too expensive for me.  I only buy the cheapest GB/$ drives I can find, which currently are $58 OEM 250GB drives (4.3GB/$).  I've got 11x250GB drives, 10x200GB drives, and 8x160GB drives, for a total of at least 6TB.  All stored in these nifty open silicone sheaths that I buy by the dozen.

All accessed via a nifty USB2 - 2.5"IDE/3.5"IDE/SATA cable.  Plus, misc storage in 2.5" drives, CF, and SD.  And well over a thousand CD-Rs and about half a dozen 100 disc spindles of DVDs.  A rough estimate is that my storage requirements increase at about 10-15GB/day.

Yes, I have a lot of porn :P

ECS produces good budget mobos and XFX is known brand amongst enthusiast's. Don't worry those brands are good :)

I am waiting for the 1TB drives to come down a bit, currently spending about 200 euro's per 500GB (that includes the USB case) but they are coming down in price almost weekly.

I am at about the same GB/day but almost non of them is porn, 90% of that is 'watch and delete'
HDTV is what takes op most of the GB's (3-4GB per episode)

Damn  You guys sure have a LOT of diskspace. I had five HD's a while ago but since it was little too cramped inside the case I desided to sell one of my 120GB Samsung's and put the another one to my htpc. Next purchase will be a 250GB or 320GB sata2 Western Digital.
