Jackie is without a doubt one of the greatest entertainers of all-time and he's the biggest reason why I started watching martial arts movies. Back in the late 90s I borrowed my friend's copy of JC's Who Am I? (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0127357/) and it fucking blew me away. The movie had everything: great fight scenes, comedy and insane stunts. After seeing "Who Am I?" I went to the nearest video rental joint and rented every possible JC flick XD

My favorite JC flick is of course the legendary Drunken Master II. After all these years DM II is still absolutely hilarious and it has some of the most creative fight scenes ever :yep:

Jackie Chan's Heading to the Qin Dynasty for Junior Soldiers

Jackie Chan has been on somewhat of downward spiral recently, with films like Shanghai Knights, The Medallion, Rush Hour 3, and most recently, The Forbidden Kingdom. Will he ever be able to pull himself out of that rut again? Variety announces today that Chan has started work on his next film, titled Junior Soldiers. The film is apparently a "road movie" set during the Qin dynasty and focuses on "three people and a horse." Not really sure what that exactly means, but I'm not sure it'll be anything too exciting. Shooting will begin next year under the direction of Underdog Knight director Ding Sheng.

I've never forgotten the film that first introduced me to Jackie Chan - Rumble in the Bronx back in 1995 (of which that photo of Chan above is from). Back in those days, Chan's kung fu movies were R rated violence-filled extravaganzas, but now he's become the tame and comedic Asian icon giving uninspired performances in terrible films like The Forbidden Kingdom. I shiver just thinking about that awful movie, which is why I hope Chan will one day get back to his truly entertaining roots. Interestingly, he is producing and writing Junior Soldiers in addition to starring in it.

Jackie Chan to star in 'The Karate Kid' remake

Jaden Smith has found himself a mentor. Jackie Chan will take on Pat Morita's Mr. Miyagi role in Sony Pictures' remake of The Karate Kid. The movie stars 10-year old Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness), who is the son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, and will be directed by Harold Zwart (The Pink Panther 2). Will's production company, Overbrook, will produce, and Jada has been rumored for the role of Jaden's mother in the film. China Film Corp. Group will coproduce the movie, which will shoot entirely in China.

This song is written and composed by Chang Shilei, who just signed as an artist under one of Jackie's artist managment company in China.

It was not intended for Jackie to sing at first, but after listening to the sample, Jackie grabbed the opportunity and join Tan Jing and Chang Shilei.

This is Jackie Chan's first song in 2009 to wish all the Chinese a happy Chinese New Year.

The lyric in English:

(I translated this lyric on a almost word by word basis - so it's not lyrical at all when you read them in English - but you'll get the gist of what this song is trying to say.)

Chinese New Year

Jackie Chan:

Love is sunshine Unbreakable line
Sew up the past Keep in the spring
Unending feelings Romantic lingerings
Stories abound Chinese New Year

Tan Jing:

Love is sunshine Dripping stones' sweetness
After the storms Warming up the longings
Hearts stringing together Not knowing tiredness
Reunions inseparable Chinese New Year

Jackie Chan:
Year after year Love always meets
Year after year Love's starting point

Chang Shilei:

Th sun shines Through everyone's heart
Chinese New Year Time for dreams to begin
Hand in Hand Linking up the horizon
Cloud calls for the Moon Round Awlays hanging by the mountain top

Jackie Chan:
The dinner of the world Love without boundaries
Warming everytime Reunion experience

Tan Jing:
Love is doorway The rhyming couplet
Mom's prayers All contain inside
Love is smiling faces Year after year
Well wishes overflows Chinese New Year

Year after year Love always meets
Year after year Love's starting point

Jackie Chan:
Year after year Love always meets
Year after year Love's starting point

Chang Shilei:

The sun shines Through everyone's heart
Chinese New Year Time for dreams to begin
Hand in Hand Linking up the horizon
Cloud calls for the Moon Round Always hanging by the mountain top

Chan Goes Green With Minimal Flushes

Actor Jackie Chan urges the cast and crew on his film sets to conserve water - by flushing the toilet just once at the end of the day. The action star is intent on using his fame to encourage fans to help protect the environment and conserve water.

And he even asks colleagues on film sets to join him in partaking in his eco-friendly methods.

Speaking at a Go Green initiative for Segway (two-wheeled transporter) in Singapore, the star says, "Do you know how much water we waste when each of us visits the washroom twice a day?

"When I go to the washroom, I will ask who is going after me; we’ll flush the toilet bowl when the last person is done. I am doing this for the environment."

And the Rush Hour star even tries to minimise his impact on the earth while travelling: "I usually stay in the presidential suite whenever I travel; however, I will wash my own undergarments and socks everyday when I return to my room. I will also inform the chamber maids that they do not have to change my bed sheets and towels everyday. Once I un-wrap the soap which the hotels provide, I will carry it along with me until I finish using it."

Jackie Chan's JUNIOR SOLDIERS (aka. BIG SOLDIER, SMALL GENERAL) in Production Already

(jacked from....MonkeyPeaches Exclusive)

 February 5, 2009

Shooting for Jackie Chan's new movie Junior Soldiers has already begun two days ago at a popular tourist site called "Dirt Forest" located in Yunnan Province of southern China, according to several local newspapers.  Junior Soldiers is just an English working title and the original Chinese title is Da Bing Xiao Jiang, which literally means Big Soldier, Small General.

It will be a kind of road movie with a story set in Qin Dynasty (221 BC - 206 BC). The main characters are two guys, a girl and a horse. Chan will play the general and Rochester-born Wang Lee-Hom (second male lead in Lust, Caution) will play the soldier. The actress playing the girl is currently unknown.

A reporter sneaked into the set and wrote a short report about what he saw. The set is a roadside inn built with bricks and dirt. The opening ceremony started in 8 am and Chan led the cast and crew to pray for good luck. He also asked everyone to protect the environment while working - cut down smoking and no cigarette butt on the ground. In the first scene, Jackie Chan dressed in body armors, got drunk (drunken master again?)  and smashed a log out of rage. Many extras wearing military uniforms were standing by for unknown scenes. The second lead Wang Lee-Hom has also arrived yesterday. The cast also include Chan's new disciples, called the New Seven Lucky Stars (Jackie Chan is a member of the original Seven Lucky Stars) and Korean singer Yoo Seung-Jun as rumored.

Jackie Chan's Karate Kid Remake to be Called Kung Fu Kid

Last year it was announced that Columbia Pictures was remaking the 1984 classic Karate Kid with Jaden Smith set to star. In January, we announced that Jackie Chan had been cast as the lovable Mr. Miyagi, stepping in for Pat Morita. As far as I know, not a single person was excited by any of this news, but of course Sony is pushing forward with the production in hopes of convincing audiences later with marketing. Well, a good friends of ours dropped by with a tip recently letting us know that in a recent interview with Jackie Chan, he let slip that this remake is actually going to be called Kung Fu Kid, not Karate Kid.

"They don't want to call it Karate Kid any more," Chan said. "They want to call it The Kung Fu Kid." He quickly changed topics and unfortunately didn't add any more about as to why this change was being made. Our guess is that since this remake is a Chinese co-production and being shot in Beijing, it's much more relevant today to use kung fu as opposed to karate (which isn't as popular as it was back in the 80's) and also more appropriate considering karate actually has its historical roots in kung fu. As in, story updates and Chinese influence caused them to change the title to be more culturally relevant and accurate.

If you're actually big Jackie Chan fan, a great interview can be seen over on 3news.co.nz. He talks about how he's trying to change his image and become more of an "actor who can fight" not a "fighter who can act." It's actually a really heartfelt interview and it reminds me why I love him so much. Hopefully this news about the title actually sheds some positive light on the production, although I doubt it will.

Jackie Chan Wrote, is Producing, and Starring in Big Soldier

Three people, one horse, and Jackie Chan. That's Big Soldier for you, a story set during the Warring States Period in China with a $25 million dollar budget produced, written by, and starring Chan, according to Variety. "It's an action picture with black humor plus a bit of romance," Chan told them. He'll be playing an older soldier who abducts a younger general of the enemy state and the two embark on a journey to collect the reward. Along a Chan, fellow Chinese actors Lee Hom, Lin Peng, and South Korean actor Yoo Seung-Jun will be starring with Ding Sheng, of only the 2008 film Underdog Knight previously, directing.

With Big Soldier, Chan will be veering back to his past action-comedy successes. Although it's a period film, the budget is fairly large, and especially because it's being shot entirely in China with a crew comprised entirely of mainland-Chinese, that budget is actually pretty staggering. But, as one of the film's investors puts it, "this is a Jackie Chan film." Go big or go home. That's what I always say. It'll be great to see Chan tackling some non-Americanized humor — let's just hope it lands better than his most recent live-action installment, The Forbidden Kingdom. Even if it doesn't, at least the action will be fairly kick-ass.

Title: Jackie Chan's China comments prompt backlash
Post by: THUNDERDUCK on April 21, 2009, 05:27:56 AM
HONG KONG (AP) -- Action star Jackie Chan 's comments wondering whether Chinese people "need to be controlled" have drawn sharp rebuke in his native Hong Kong and in Taiwan.

Chan told a business forum in the southern Chinese province of Hainan that a free society may not be beneficial for China's authoritarian mainland.

"I'm not sure if it's good to have freedom or not," Chan said Saturday. "I'm gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled. If we're not being controlled, we'll just do what we want."

He went on to say that freedoms in Hong Kong and Taiwan made those societies "chaotic."

Chan's comments drew applause from a predominantly Chinese audience of business leaders, but did not sit well with lawmakers in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

"He's insulted the Chinese people. Chinese people aren't pets," Hong Kong pro-democracy legislator Leung Kwok-hung told The Associated Press. "Chinese society needs a democratic system to protect human rights and rule of law."

Another lawmaker, Albert Ho, called the comments "racist," adding: "People around the world are running their own countries. Why can't Chinese do the same?"

Former British colony Hong Kong enjoys Western-style civil liberties and some democratic elections under Chinese rule. Half of its 60-member legislature is elected, with the other half picked by special interest groups. But Hong Kong's leader is chosen by a panel stacked with Beijing loyalists.

In democratically self-ruled Taiwan, which split from mainland China during a civil war in 1949, legislator Huang Wei-che said Chan himself "has enjoyed freedom and democracy and has reaped the economic benefits of capitalism. But he has yet to grasp the true meaning of freedom and democracy."

Chan's comments were reported by news outlets in Hong Kong and Taiwan, but were ignored by the mainland Chinese press.

Although Chan was a fierce critic of the brutal crackdown on pro-democracy protesters in Beijing's Tiananmen Square in June 1989, which killed at least hundreds, he has not publicly criticized China's government in recent years and is immensely popular on the mainland.

He performed during the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics and took part in the Olympic torch relay.

Chan also is vice chairman of the China Film Association, a key industry group.

Jackie Chan says "Kung Fu Kid" co-star Jaden Smith's dedication to martial arts puts his own son to shame.

The 11-year-old son of Hollywood stars Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith has been training under Chan's stunt co-ordinator for his role in the China Film Group-Columbia Pictures remake of the 1984 hit "The Karate Kid," which kicked off filming in Beijing on July 11.
In a diary entry on his official Web site, Chan said he was deeply impressed by the younger Smith's progress when he visited Los Angeles last month. The veteran Hong Kong action star said Jaden Smith learned the Chinese phrases for different kung fu moves, responded to orders in Mandarin, and treated his teacher, Wu Gang, according to traditional Chinese custom. "When he was thirsty, he gave the traditional hand gesture, putting one fist into the palm of the other, bowed and asked permission to drink some water," Chan said.

Chan said Smith even learned the drunken fighter routine he made famous in his 1978 film "Drunken Master." "He put my son to shame! I provided my son with the best martial artists in the world, and he could not be persuaded to try it. In just two months, Jaden had learned so much. He is truly a talented boy," he said, adding he felt Smith was ready to perform his own stunts in "Kung Fu Kid."Chan's son, Jaycee, is a singer and actor but has not followed in his father's footsteps as an action star. Chan posted several photos with the diary entry showing him with Jaden Smith and his father.

He said he was skeptical at first of Jaden Smith's work ethic because he was born into a privileged family. "Training in martial arts is hard work. It takes years to perfect even one punch or kick. Jaden's father is a famous celebrity, and Jaden probably knows he could get away without having to work very hard. If I couldn't get my own son to train in martial arts, how could anybody else succeed?" Chan said. Chan said he suggested to Will Smith that he send his son to China for a few years of kung fu training, predicting "when he returns, his martial arts will be truly incredible." Jaden Smith costarred with his father in the 2006 movie "The Pursuit of Happyness" and appeared in the 2008 Keanu Reeves sci-fi movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still."

First Logo Unveiled for Jackie Chan's Karate Kid Remake
(http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/3193/karatekidremaketitletre.jpg)

It looks like Sony is still going back-n-forth on whether they want to call this Karate Kid remake The Karate Kid or The Kung Fu Kid, as it was supposedly retitled to. Maybe they're concerned about losing some brand recognition by changing the name. Anyway, considering they've starting shooting in China, it's not a surprise that some details and photos have started to leak out. SlashFilm discovered the first official title treatment for the film hidden on some Sony site. It's not that impressive but it is a cool first look at the film, in addition to that photo at the top of Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith working on some kung fu training.

Those set photos weren't interesting enough to feature on their own, but this title was. The Kung Fu Kid or The Karate Kid (whatever you want to call it) stars Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan, and Taraji P. Henson. Smith plays Dre, a skateboarding video game buff who moves to China after his single mother is forced to go there for work. Unable to speak Chinese, Dre finds it hard to settle in, and gets beat up by the local bully. Chan plays Mr. Han (the Mr. Miyagi character), a maintenance man who spots his black-eye and offers to teach him both martial arts and Chinese, so he can defend against the students at the nearby school of kung-fu.

Part Jackie Chan promo, part China studio tour, “Looking for Jackie” is a cameo-packed swing through the mainland’s industry via the slapdash plot of a teen martial-arts student trying to track down the superstar in Beijing. With Chan himself fronting at beginning and end with some of his old buddies, and a host of local names in the middle of the sandwich, the pic looks set for plenty of hype on its July 7 release in China. Offshore, this amiable family pic is vid fodder beyond a few select Asian markets.

Really?

Him and Andy Lau wanna remake Jet Li's New Shaolin Temple!!

Quote
Jackie Chan, Andy Lau to star in new Shaolin movie

By MIN LEE (AP) – 1 day ago

HONG KONG — The king of kung fu cinema is set to star in a new movie about China's famed shrine of martial arts, the Shaolin Temple.

Jackie Chan will star in the $29 million production, "Shaolin," the latest screen portrayal of the 1,500-year old temple in central China whose famous fighting monks have featured in films by stars such as Bruce Lee and Jet Li, and in the 1970s TV series "Kung Fu" with David Carradine.

Chan's Chinese-language film will co-star veteran Hong Kong actor Andy Lau, actor-singer Nicholas Tse and Chinese actress Fan Bingbing.

The production, said to boast 1,000 real fighting monks and a grand scene in which the temple burns down, will start shooting later this year for release in late 2010. It was announced in a joint statement Thursday by four Chinese film studios: the state-run China Film Group Corp., Emperor Motion Pictures, Huayi Brothers Media Corp. and Beijing Silver Moon Productions Ltd.

Hong Kong filmmaker Benny Chan, who worked with Chan on "New Police Story" and "Rob-B-Hood," will direct and Cory Yuen will serve as action co-ordinator. Yuen's credits include "Lethal Weapon 4" and "X-Men."

"Shaolin" will be an updated version of a 1982 movie, "The Shaolin Temple," in which former Chinese kung fu champion Li made his screen debut, playing a boy adopted and trained by Shaolin monks who seeks to avenge the death of his father.

The new project could draw more heat for Shaolin Temple abbot Shi Yongxin, who has been accused of high living and seeking publicity for the famed shrine in the Songshan Mountains of central Henan province. He has also faced criticism for upgrading facilities at the once-austere temple.

Shi has agressively promoted the Shaolin brand, and has threatened to sue companies that use the temple's name or image without permission, but the abbot is clearly on board for Chan's project.

"It's worth cheering that we are now working with the most outstanding production team," Shi was quoted as saying in the statement Thursday.

Chan has most recently been shooting a remake of "The Karate Kid" in China with Will Smith's son, Jaden.

Jackie Chan Headlining a Remake of Shaolin Temple in China

More cheesy kung fu "chopsocky" humor, but this time since it's actually coming from China, it won't be as bad as the Hollywood-produced crap like The Spy Next Door. Jackie Chan will star in a remake of the 1982 movie Shaolin Temple alongside of Andy Lau (The Warlords), Nicholas Tse (The Storm Warriors), and actress Fan Bingbing (Shinjuku Incident). The film is a $29 million Chinese production directed by Hong Kong's Benny Chan, who made New Police Story and Rob-B-Hood. This will also feature martial arts star Wu Jing, Yu Shaoqun and "thousands of Shaolin disciples from the temple", which just sounds awesome.

The temple, built in 495 A.D., is widely regarded as the birthplace of Shaolin kung fu. "We felt that it was important not to rush into a film project just for the sake of making another film. It has taken us a long time to find the right partners who had all the right elements for something as monumental as this," abbot Shi Yongxin said. The story follows a slave who runs away and learns kung fu at the temple and returns to kill a traitor who killed his father betrayed his emperor. It's based on a true story from Shaolin folklore, but highly fictionalized. Shooting on Shaolin Temple is expected to start the end of this year with a release in late 2010.

I long for the day when we'll see Jackie Chan return to his martial arts roots to make good action - or even good comedy - movies once again. I was glad to see him star in Shinjuku Incident (which hasn't hit America yet) and I hope this is like his older work as well. I'm just tired of seeing him in crap like The Spy Next Door.

Jackie Chan laments too much fighting in his films

With about 100 action films under his belt, kung-fu king Jackie Chan says he is not proud of all his movies and calls some of his early films "a mistake." "It was a mistake to make 'Drunken Fist,'" Chan said Thursday about his 1978 blockbuster. "The film was all about getting drunk to fight. It misled the audience." Chan added that he "tried to correct the mistake in the 1994 sequel which tells the audience to be tolerant." The Hong Kong star was in Beijing to promote an online game spin-off of his new film "Big Soldiers." "Most of the video games available today are about fighting and killing," Chan said. "This is not good for children. I hope by playing our game, youngsters will get a message of peace."

In the role-playing game, players can follow the development of the story in "Big Soldiers" about an old soldier who kidnaps a young general and takes him on a long journey to collect a reward. Chan, who also wrote the story, took 20 years to complete the plot. He said the film is about lives during wartime and is a strong message that peace is priceless. "Big Soldiers," in which Chan plays the soldier and singer-turned-actor Lee-Hom Wang portrays the young general, will open in Chinese cinemas next Valentine's Day, which is also Chinese New Year's Day. Chan is also the film's producer, while Ding Sheng is the director. The video spin-off will be released next month.

The story is set in China's Warring State Periods (453 - 221 BC), when the country was still a collective of many independents states. A bloody battle ended with only two survivors, an old soldier from the state of Liang (Jackie Chan) and a young general from the state of Wei (Wang Lee-Hom). The soldier kidnapped the badly wounded enemy general and planned to bring him back to Liang, in exchange for a reward and a retirement from war. In the soldier's eyes, the general ruthlessly brought thousands of men to death, and the general also dislike the soldier who actually survived by faking death. However the journey is not easy and the mutual distrust is in fact the least problem they are facing.

Jackie Chan said the idea of a soldier kidnapping an enemy general came from a dream he had about 20 years ago. He told the dream of many people and only rookie director Ding Sheng made it to a script and showed it to Jackie Chan. The original cast was Jackie Chan's son Jaycee Chan as the soldier and Jiang Wen as the general. The cast has been changed but the director has always been Ding Sheng.

The cast also includes Yee Seung-jun, Du Yuming, Lin Peng, Xu Dongmei, Jin Song, Lu Huiguang, Yu Rongguang, Wang Baoqiang and Wu Yue.

looks good but I'll be honest in saying this, the movie will never live up to the original, its too hard to follow up on it, because how the movie was set up and using a different martial art and it is still called "Karate Kid"  Although I would like to see some awards coming from this as it seems more hardcore than the original, which reminds me of Rocky IV and that aspect I would really appreciate.

I would love to see just to see the Mr. Miyabi performance from Jackie Chan.  :)

Jackie Chan penning autobiographical musical

Jackie Chan has been quoted by multiple sources as saying that he plans to tell his life story through song and dance by writing an autobiographical musical. “I’m planning to do I AM JACKIE CHAN: THE MUSICAL. I’ve got a very interesting background. I will talk about how I got into the film business… and how I’ve come to be today. It’s a very interesting, classical musical,” Chan said. Chan has spoken about his love of musicals in the past and did so again. “I love THE SOUND OF MUSIC. When I was young, I didn’t know English and I saw the whole movie,” Chan added.

In addition to being a musical fan, Chan, aged 55, comes from a Peking opera background where he was taught singing, dancing, acrobatics, and martial arts as a child. He has also maintained a successful singing career in Asia alongside being a top international action film star. In 1999, Chan published a written autobiography in English called “I Am Jackie Chan: My Life in Action.”

Jackie Chan's son Jaycee Chan, main cast members Lin Peng and Xu Dongmei and Korean star Yoo Seung Jun all attended the celebration, according to Taiwan media reports.

Jaycee strongly supports his dad's new job and he spoke highly of Jackie Chan's performance in the film and believes that the box office takings will increase further in the future.

Jackie Chan among ‘least trustworthy’ in Hong Kong

Jackie Chan’s public comments last year about Chinese people needing to be controlled and that too much freedom may harm China continue to haunt the action superstar. Reader’s Digest recently held its annual poll to find out who the most trusted personalities in Hong Kong were. Chan came in at 77th out of 80, behind the city’s unpopular, Beijing-appointed Chief Executive Donald Tsang. The number one pick is retired actress and anti-child abuse campaigner Josephine Siao. In the 1960s, she starred in a variety of wuxia films and years later played Jet Li’s wacky mother in the wire-fu comedy FONG SAI YUK.

Chow Yun-fat, who is arguably the second most internationally famous (living) Hong Kong star behind Jackie Chan, came in sixth. After Chan’s comments drew widespread criticism last year, a spokesman for Chan responded by claiming that they were taken out of context. In a city that still eyes China’s Communist government warily after being handed back to them following 156 years of British colonial rule, that apparently isn’t convincing enough.

Jackie Chan No. 1 on the "2010 The Forbes Richest List"

Yesterday the "2010 The Forbes Richest List" was announced. Jackie Chan was ranked in the top overall with an income of more than 200 million yuan, Jay Chou and Andy Lau followed behind in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Jay Chou had an income of 120 million yuan, which makes him in the lead among the China, Hong Kong and Taiwan singers combined. Suffering from negative news, Zhang Ziyi was ranked in 5th place, but is in 2nd place among the Mainland artists. Based on just income ranking, Chinese basketball player Yao Ming ranks the highest with more than 250 million yuan.

Yesterday on the 7th release of Chinese celebrities, this is the first time that 3 local artists made it top based on income and amount of exposure. 56 year old Jackie Chan had more than 200 million yuan income and strong popularity, which makes him No. 1.

In second place is Jay Chou who has diversified his career, besides being a singer and actor, he also participated in directing work of more than 120 million yuan of income. His old lover Jolin Tsai was ranked 7th, with 46 million yuan. In 3rd place is Andy Lau who was the entertainment circle focus last year with news on his marriage combined with his intensive workload, his income with 86 million yuan.

Income ranking first place (4th place overall), Yao Ming had more than 250 million yuan, but does not compare to his 350 million yuan last year.

Jackie Chan Doing A New 'Drunken Master'

If word from Cannes is to be believed, Jackie Chan is currently working on a new martial arts film entitled 'Drunken Master 1945'. The project is neither a remake nor a sequel to Chan's 1978 kung fu classic, but will in fact be a brand new story that intends to recapture the martial arts spirit. Alan Mak, the co-writer and co-director of 2002's 'Infernal Affairs', is reportedly attached to helm the film, which will have a budget of US $15 million and is aiming to start shooting in February 2011.

Whilst at Cannes, Jackie Chan's representatives also unveiled the following projects:

- 'Cambodia Landmine', an action/comedy/drama, to be directed by 'Little Big Soldier's Ding Sheng. The $25 million production is scheduled to shoot in Cambodia in February 2012.

- 'Tiger Mountain', a Mandarin-language action drama, to be directed by Tsui Siu Ming. Budgeted at $50 million and set to begin production in October 2012, the film will boast 3D special effects.

- 'Manhattan', a $55 million action suspenser in both Mandarin and English, which Chan will both star in and direct. It is filming in both China and the U.S. and is slated for release in January 2013.

Jackie Chan appointed honorary chair of Asia Song Festival

Hong Kong star Jackie Chan has been appointed honorary chairman of the 2010 Asia Song Festival (ASF) which brings together top artists from around the region to Korea every year.

The 56-year-old actor, director and producer showed up at The Grand Hyatt hotel in Seoul yesterday, attending the commissioning ceremony for the event to be hosted jointly by Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange (KOFICE), the Seoul Metropolitan Government and UNICEF Korea.

Jackie Chan has long been known for his charity work including serving as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNICEF for several years now and running his own charity foundation.

Korean actor Lee Min-ho, Goodwill Ambassador for Korea's UNICEF, also turned up at the ceremony, promising to promote the festival as a way of spreading the values of hope and sharing.

Numerous top singers from around Asia have taken part in the ASF so far such as Korea's Super Junior, Big Bang and Girl's Generation, Japan's Backt and mihimaru GT, China's Chris Lee and Taiwan's Show Luo at last year's fest.

The first line-up of artists announced so far for this year's ASF includes Korean singer BoA, China's Jane Zhang, Taiwanese singer and actor Joe Cheng and Malaysian singer-songwriter Michael Wong.

The event will be held as Asia's one and only international charity concert hosted jointly with the UNICEF as well as being an official cultural event held in celebration of the G20 summit to be held in Korea in November.

All proceeds from online sales of UNICEF's charity doll AWOO and funds raised from the concert will be donated to children in flood-stricken areas in Pakistan.

The 7th ASF will take place at the Olympic Park in Seoul on October 23 and be attended by 15 teams of artists from seven countries around Asia.

Jackie Chan teams up with Kwon Sang-Woo on 'Chinese Zodiac'

Hong Kong performing artists earlier held an ARTISTES 311 LOVE BEYOND BORDER Japan relief show. Jackie Chan donated both money and effort that day as he donated HK$3 million. Two nights ago he attended a Japanese restaurant opening in Beijing and announced that he will donate another 10 million yen. He urged everyone to lend a helping hand to Japan Earthquake victims. Jackie Chan at the event said, Japan just had an earthquake, he as one of Nobu restaurant bosses would donate another 10 million yen. In addition 500 yuan out from each charity special order would be donated to the victims as well. Jackie Chan said, "I hope to share the love with all the less fortunate people around the world."

In addition, Korean actor Kwon Sang-woo earlier came to Hong Kong for the relief show. Later he will work with Jackie Chan on an action film. According to Kwon Sang-woo's management, "Kwon Sang-woo will join the Jackie Chan starred action film CHINESE ZODIAC. The production dates and other matter have already been negotiated. Jackie Chan thought Kwon Sang-woo's action performance in films like SPIRIT OF JEET KUNE DO was very exciting." CHINESE ZODIAC will be a 100 billion won action epic, with four Asian superstars in its cast. Production will begin in early June in Paris.

The Jackie Chan executive directed, Zhang Li directed film 1911 two days ago promoted at the 14th Huabiao Awards in Beijing as Big Brother Jackie Chan led some of the cast to the event.

1911 will be Media Asia's 2011 National Day war epic release that stars Winston Chao, Jackie Chan and Li Bingbing. The story is about the Xinhai revolution. The Jackie Chan played Huang Xing (1874-1916) led the armed uprising. During the revolution, he and Dr. Sun Yat-sen were often called "Sun Huang". Sun Yat-sen was an idealist and a forerunner while Huang Xing was a doer. Huang Xing started and personally participated in many important revolutionary events.

After numerous life and death encounters, Huang Xing finally succumbed to illness in his middle age and was key to overthrow the Qing Dynasty and found the Republic. During the Revolution although he had a difference of opinion with Sun Yat-sen, he never fought for power and was willing to play support.

Jackie Chan says he's giving up fighting on screen; 'Chinese Zodiac' to be last action role
Global News c/o Associated Press | Friday, May 18, 2012 1:25 PM

CANNES, France - Jackie Chan says he is landing his last punch.

The Hong Kong actor told the AP on Friday that his latest film "Chinese Zodiac" will be his last action movie.

Chan, launching the film in Cannes with co-stars Kwone Sang Woo, Yao Xingtong and Liao Fan, said that people never believe him when he says he is going to retire.

"They say 'no, you're still young, you can still do it,' but I have to stop one day."

The 58-year-old says he is bowing out with "Chinese Zodiac" because it's one of the "most important" films in his career.

Chan wrote, produced, directed and co-ordinated fights scenes for the film — in which his character searches for the 12 bronze heads of the Chinese zodiac.

Chan promised that he'll continue to make films, but with more acting than action, citing Robert DeNiro and Clint Eastwood his role models.

Not entirely surprised at this, especially considering how it must be getting more and more difficult for him to actually physically perform the action/stunts that so many of us are used to seeing from him. Hopefully people are willing to give him a shot at a "non-action" role.

Cannes 2012: Jackie Chan to retire from action movies

At Cannes, Jackie Chan has announced his retirement as an action star, saying he is too old for stunts and the world is “too violent”.

The 58-year-old actor said he felt “really, really tired” after decades of pushing his body to the limit.

Speaking in Cannes, Chan said that his latest Hollywood outing, Chinese Zodiac, would be the last time audiences see him in a leading action role.

“This is my last action film,” he said. “I tell you, I’m not young any more. I’m really, really tired.

“And the world is too violent right now. It’s a dilemma - I like action but I don’t like violence.”

Chan has been talking of retirement for the past couple of years but said today that this time he really means it.

He is not giving up his acting career, however. Chan would like to move into more serious roles.

“For the last 10 years I have been making some other different movies. I want to be an Asian Robert De Niro. I don’t just want to be an action star, I want to be a true actor. I want to get rid of my image,” he said.

“I want the audience to know I’m not only a comedian. I can act. Day by day, year by year, I’m going to show you the real Jackie Chan.”

Chinese Zodiac is Chan’s 100th film and features an international cast.

Chan is known for performing almost all of his own stunts. Producer Brett Ratner, re-teaming with Chan following their successful partnership in the Rush Hour films, said: “Jackie is superhuman. He does things that no actor would ever do.

“In Hollywood we would do a green screen and put the actors on wires and pretend they were inthe sky. Jackie does it for real.

“No other actor, I don’t care who they are, can do what Jackie Chan can do.”

Chan has been performing on screen since the 1960s and his martial arts skills were developed at an early age.

In his teens, he worked as a stuntman on the Bruce Lee films Fist of Fury and Enter the Dragon. The Hong Kong-born actor became a crossover Hollywood star in the 1990s with hits including Rumble In The Bronx, Rush Hour and Shanghai Noon.

More recently, he voiced Master Monkey in Kung Fu Panda and played a Mr Miyagi-style character in the 2010 remake of The Karate Kid.

The Jackie Chan film CZ12 will open on December 20. Yesterday CZ12 held a Guinness World Record announcement in Shanghai. The Guinness World record Chinese regional chief came to Shanghai to present two Guinness World Record certificates to Jackie Chan for "Most Stunts by a Living Actor" and "Most Credits in One Movie".
Jackie Chan said that in CZ12 he was challenged with a volcano jump, which was shot on location; his friend Wang Zhonglei complained about how much risk Jackie Chan took with his life, threatening him and others in charge and giving them no peace.

Jackie Chan in CZ12 had 15 credits and displayed his true superman nature. He was the executive producer, the producer, the director, the star, the screen writer, the action director, the cinematographer, the art director, the production assistant, the life producer, lighting, music, props, stunt double and theme song performer.

Jackie Chan said that he was not super human, he just focused on making his career the best. The potential that he had exceeded his own imagination.

International superstar Jackie Chan on the 6th appeared in TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles for a hand print ceremony as he became the second Chinese artist to be honored in the theater square after famous director John Woo (Ng Yu Sum). Jackie Chan appeared with his RUSH HOUR co-star Chris Tucker and Will Smith's son Jaden Smith.

Jackie Chan first received a certificate then began the hand print ceremony. He not only left his hand and foot prints but also the "Jackie Chan nose" in a push up like stance.

Although afterward he had cement on his nose and mouth, Jackie Chan appeared to be very happy. He said, "20 years ago when I saw someone else's hand print ceremony, I said to myself I definitely had to work hard and leave something in Hollywood." Finally Jackie Chan wrote his English name, love and peace on the cement, which will be preserved inside the theater.

After the ceremony, Jackie Chan could not wait to post his photos online to share the joy with his fans. He said, "Today I came up a very interesting idea, taking off my shoes and wearing the socks that I designed for foot prints. Even more surprising to me were my good friend Chris Tucker and my disciple Jaden Smith as well as many good friends who appeared on the stage and supported me. I was very happy to see them. Here I have to thank viewers who like movies, the media, my good friends and my fans around the world. Thank you."

Quote
Jackie Chan produced K-pop group set to debut this month

Earlier this year international action star Jackie Chan had been making some unusual appearances in the South Korean media. First, on the red carpet for Police Story 2013 he blurted out “I’m half Korean!” Although it was later revealed to be a metaphorical sentiment lost in translation, the statement ruffled some feathers back in China.

Later that month, Chan appeared on a South Korean variety show where he confessed to having a love affair with a Korean woman for eight years in his younger days of working as a stuntman. So why is Jackie Chan showing so much love for Korea these days?

Let’s just say if I asked you to name five things that aren’t Jackie Chan and you said K-pop, you’d be wrong.

It was revealed on 10 March that over the past few years Jackie Chan and associates have been hard at work constructing this new group. Chan himself is said to have been very hands-on in all aspects from member selection, training, and album production.

A spokesperson from the upcoming group revealed, “The work towards a formal debut is complete. All the passion and sweat that has been put in over the years has gone into making this a debut that will leave a strong impression in the minds of fans.”

The group’s name is JJCC which I really hope stands for “Jackie Jackie Chan Chan.” It is said to consist of five men in their 20s, four of them South Korean and one Chinese. All men are over 180cm (5’11”).

In recent years K-pop has been aggressively targeting an international audience resulting in growing success for the genre. This is clearly a potentially lucrative investment for the 56-year-old martial artist who’s got to be looking for paydays that no longer involve rolling down mountains in a giant plastic ball or getting run over by a hovercraft.

We’ll have to wait and see if Chan’s latest venture pays off when JJCC hits the scene later this month.

Finally got to see Jackie's 'The Foreigner' and... man, it was enjoyable. A relief from watching him play goofy stuff for so long - it's pretty grim. Good action - thriller...
