Title: Prince of Persia (2010)
Post by: Tuffty on May 21, 2008, 01:07:37 PM
Jake Gyllenhaal, him out of Donnie Darko and Brokeback Mountain, has signed up to don the big trousers for the Prince of Persia film.

According to the Hollywood Reporter the film is set in 6th century Persia. Gyllenhaal will play the prince, Dastan, while the role of "feisty and exotic" princess Tamina will be played by Gemma Arterton. No, not Gemma Atkinson, unfortunately; Arterton is the one appearing in the new James Bond film, Quantum of Solace. Together, Dastan and Tamina must take on an evil nobleman who is determined to possess the Sands of Time.  (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=141615)

Look I like Jake Gyllenhaal, a fine actor and really enjoyed Donnie Darko, however, couldn't they have found an actor who's just a tad more persian? I'm also just a tad disappointed with the casting of the female lead as well (Tamina? If the story is based on the Sands of Time universe, then why isn't it Farah?). I can't judge Gemma Arterton's acting ability as I haven't seen her in any films yet, but surely Rai Aishwarya would have been a perfect choice, as rumours had suggested?

I can't really picture Jake playing this kind of role...

But hey he might surprise me

Preview pics of Jake as the Prince (http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=9743&count=0)

Gyllenhall's buffed out. Kinda looks more 'Warrior Within' prince than 'Sands of Time' prince, which is what I would prefer, but I'm a tad more optimistic.

BTW for the mods, would it be possible to move this topic to the Entertainment forum? It's probably a more appropriate place now for it.

The Leading actress is cute.
Somehow , she remind me  "IO" from Clash of the Titan.
But she's prettier .

^ That's because it is the same actress, Gemma Arterton. And you're right she is cute :D

^ Yes she is.

Saw the movie last Monday. I thought it was pretty good - even after hearing all the bad reviews and whatnot beforehand.

I liked it too. I liked how it just kept going. I actually didn't notice how he was white. Although the poisoned robe was a bit mental! It was weird, but it is one of my Western favourites. Another thing is that the kissing scene wasn't OM NOM NOM.
It was fast and didn't detract from the experience.
