Gugudan (stylized Gu9udan) is a nine-member girl group under Jellyfish entertainment. Two of the members are Kim Sejeong and Kang Mina who placed 2nd and 9th respectively in Produce 101 and who are also members of IOI. Kim Nayoung, who placed 14th in Produce 101, is also a member. The group is set to debut in June 2016.

So, I think we might have a group name, and it is gx9, which I would guess could stand for "girls x 9" or something haha. Again, not sure if the name is confirmed, but there's a logo and stuff so let's go with that for now.

What is for sure confirmed is that there will be nine(!) members in this group, a lot more than I expected.

There's our group, as displayed in Instagram. PD101 girls in the middle column, Sejeong at the very center. All look great, now let's see some skills.

Aight, gx9 was indeed a placeholder... the group's name is Gugudan or 구구단, apparently stylized Gu9udan.

Is it daft? First impression is, yes, it's pretty daft. But let's savour it for a while. :P

Out of the new girls (who are all very attractive), my favorite based on just looks right now is Sally... I'm reading she's Chinese, which would explain her very Chinese name. :P

Oh and yay for the return of Mina's cheeks... I wasn't feeling her promo shots, they felt very photoshopped.

She's actually STILL trending haha. Her antics during last night's Welcome Show / Talents for Sale were pretty glorious.

Among other things, she finally showed her rapping (http://bit.ly/1UC1wp6) chops (https://twitter.com/sejeongdays/status/743799490566455297), danced Sistar songs with the Sistar girls (http://bit.ly/1sLmrvA) (after proclaiming she can't really dance), flirted with Bora (http://bit.ly/1UpkxK9) (fo reals, two of my fave girls here) and then promptly crushed all of the Sistar members (who were there for a fitness-oriented segment) in arm AND thigh wrestling. In a row.

Well... well. I don't know. I'm torn. I don't really like where this concept is going, but at least everything seems remarkably well done. So we'll see.

That said, even if the concept might not be my thing exactly, I still love what Jellyfish is doing and HOW they're doing it. So much attention to detail, every girl with their own little symbol and thing, mermaid posters, sea-related jewelry and other such hints... well planned teaser schedule, every possible social media account. All I've read about the company and heard from VIXX fans is just plain good stuff, here was something I can't find the exact source of right now but anyway:

Reasons for cutting trainees:
when they find attitude probs
When the willingness lacks compared to his skills

When a trainee has no problems, but get cut bec they don't match the group concept, they connect the trainee to other companies.

Lessons: vocal, rap, dance, chinese, japanese, fitness, acting, piano, guitar, MIDI, sex ed, safety ed, etc

heartb's jinwook ended up in his company after watching his video in a meeting with jelpi ceo.

Jinwook was told that jelpi had no plans to debut a male group, his current ceo was in a meeting with jelpi's ceo and he got introduced.

Okay I really enjoyed the MV, it's fun and the dance should be great live. The song is actually mostly pretty fantastic, the chorus is earwormy as all hell and the instrumental is really good. The verses could maybe use some work to make them less basic but all in all it works pretty great.

Even if this isn't my style at all I've been looping it for 40 minutes straight now haha. Go figure. Would I have enjoyed another style more? Sure, but hey, I'll take this.

And I still feel this is wasting Sejeong's real talent a bit. Something New, Irony, Yanghwa Bridge, Fingertips... you know what I'm saying? This is just not at all what I was expecting.

Wonderland sounds very Apink/SNSD-ish. Not a bad thing, it's quite nice and catchy enough.

I'm hoping they steer away from this style as well. There's already a lot of groups releasing songs like this and while I do enjoy songs/groups like this, it would be nice see to something a little different from the trend especially from a group that has a pretty decent following.

Some things I've been able to catch up from the erratic subs:

• The girls were surprised about the group name initially (duh). They had thought about names for the group by themselves, including "Thump Thump" and "DuDuDu" after which Sejeong addresses the crowd and says "Gugudan sounds nice now, right?" :lol:
• Hana is voted the best dancer of the group. Sejeong unsurprisingly claims she's the worst because she's so slow at learning dances.
• They said If they reach 5 million hearts, Sejeong says she'll (they'll?) perform Let It Go. Sadly showcase finished at about 3.8 million hearts, but maybe they'll do it later.
• They sang a lot of the album songs, and also did a song from The Little Mermaid a cappella, which had some nice harmonies (they failed it once and restarted, though, haha...)
• They did multiplication tables... seriously.
• Plenty of awkward and God-tier aegyo. I love Nayoung's, she always seems like she's genuinely in pain while doing it.
• They said they want to be a group that keeps everyone wondering what is coming next... here's hoping this is true, and we get something wildly different next time around.

I love, love this... because one of my least favourite parts of Gugudan's debut is their stage outfits. The dance actually looks a lot better in casual wear.
