Sports Stadiums, Ballparks, Arenas, etc. Discussion Thread

Here is a thread where we can talk about Stadiums, Ballparks, Arenas, etc. where our favorite players go play. Talk about new ones being built, ones being imploded, architecture, experiences in one, toilets, food, crowds, etc. etc.

Let's start with this one:

Today marks the re-opening of New Orleans, the Louisiana SUPERDOME. Rebuilt after being nearly destroyed by Hurricane Katrina a year ago. Amazing, and they were talking about tearing it down.

Texas Stadium- I saw the Cowboys beat the Lions there last year.  It's old and it's crappy.

The BallPark in Arlington (Rangers)-  Pretty good, still kinda new, nice on the outside and inside.

How about the good ol' Winnipeg Arena?  Built in 1955 and imploded (pretty poorly, I might add) in early 2006.  Check out the shit implosion job! http://youtube.com/watch?v=oiut42rGCxQ&search=winnipeg

Of course, that was replaced by the MTS Centre in the heart of downtown in November 2004.  It actually has 50 less seats for hockey games, but its definitely a move to try to fish for an NHL team to come back to the city.  More comfortable seating, power ring, MUCH better acoustics, and shops & restaurants throughout make the MTS centre truly a world class facility.  Albeit a very hard to park around facility.

Why in the world doesn't MTS have more seats? With all that jockeying by the Crackberry People, they're gonna move the Pens to Hamilton

I liek what they plan to do to LA Memorial Coliseum, MAke it look like an actual NFL Stadium:

The decreased number of seats at MTS isn't really that much of an issue, especially when you take into account how there are so many more improvements in other ways (like the ones previously mentioned).  One of the most obvious improvements is that they got rid of the "trough"*.

Sacramento needs a new stadium even though I don't like them that much. Seriously they have crazy ass fans and the city of Sacramento needs to give it to them. Good thing David Stern recognizes this and flew down there to talk to those crazys.

They are? Well...why wouldn't it be indoors. They play better indoors and it would be hilarious if they built an outdoor stadium

I like old stadiums/arenas. All you gotta do is just build better toilets - who gives a fuck about box seats? concesssions?? that's what the chumps selling beer on their back is for!!

We need more pix of HiPstaz in front of stadiums!! XD

THIS SHIT IS BADASS! 1 Billion dollars! Jerry is gonna pay $500,000,000 and the city of Arlington which is right next to Dallas is gonna pay the other $500,000,000. It will be the largest dome structure in the world!!! I'm just glad they kept the hole in the roof so God can keep watching his team play. xD

I don't think the players would like the screens in the middle of the field. When they're running from the tackler they won't be able to look at the screen to see who is behind them.

Has anyone been to the new Wembley?? How is it?

Quote
It took more than six years to knock down the old stadium and rebuild it at a cost of $1.57 billion, which makes it easily the most expensive stadium built. The new Wembley, with a capacity of 90,000, should have opened in mid-2005 but got bogged down in delays and cost overruns

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070323/ap_on_sp_so_ne/soc_welcome_to_wembley;_ylt=AhQVj8gKKkA2kRmHQEuNY_ULMxIF

It's pretty sad when they tear down the old ones to make way for the new. Just leave it up as a museum or little league team. The Oilers are talking of building a new downtown arena lately.

My lifelong dream is  to visit as many stadiums/arenas possible, esp.

Yankee Stadium
Wembley Stadium
Candlestick Park (or whatever they call it now)
Madison Square Garden
Tokyodome
Lincoln Financial Field
Wrigley Field

I'd LOVE to see a game at Fenway but, damn it, I'd have to take out a loan just for the cheap seats!

Wrigley Field. One of the best ballparks ever, if not the best, to see a baseball game live. Tickets aren't cheap though.
