Bold new CFL Signature Uniforms coming soon
August 06, 2014

Toronto – Canadian Football League teams are preparing to debut bold and exciting new CFL Signature Uniforms from Reebok later this summer, the league announced today.

“Our fans are absolutely going to love these innovative looks,” said CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon. “We respect tradition and our teams are very proud of our current home and away uniforms. But the CFL Signature Uniforms are intended to be bold and eye catching and push the envelope. And Reebok has worked hard with our franchises to deliver something really exciting.”

The product of eighteen months of consultation, design and manufacturing, each CFL Signature Uniform will be worn by its team twice this year, and again into next season.

“These are complete uniforms – everything, from head to toe, including helmet, jersey, pants, socks and even gloves – and they are entirely new,” said Sara Moore, VP Marketing for the CFL. “Each one tells a story about its team, what that team stands for, and the fans who stand with it.”

Fans got a bit of a sneak preview of the approach when the BC Lions debuted their new CFL Signature Uniform a year early, in 2013.

“The Lions were our forerunners last year and the fans snapped up the jersey that was at the centre of the team’s bold new gunmetal look,” said Stewart Clark, Marketing Director for Reebok Canada.

“So we’re really thrilled to see how Canadians right across the league react to the CFL Signature Uniform Program. It’s been a labour of love for us at Reebok, and an opportunity for some of our most fashion-forward designers, most creative minds and biggest CFL fans to give their own fresh twist to the teams’ uniforms.”

Later today, the CFL will issue a schedule on its Instagram account ( @CFL_Official), which will expose the dates each team is slated to release its new CFL Signature Uniform. The Instagram account will also feature player reactions from some of the CFL’s biggest names.

And more details – including news on when and how fans can get their own CFL Signature Jerseys – will be available at CFL.ca and the league’s family of digital properties in the days ahead.

“With new stars emerging on the field, new stadiums dotting the CFL landscape, and new fans joining our loyal supporters, today’s CFL is poised for a bright and bold future,” Cohon said.

“These new uniforms capture that spirit and reflect our momentum. It’s going to be a lot of fun to see our teams proudly wear them and our fans react to them.”

Teaser videos, posted in order of when they will debut:

August 16, 2014 - Saskatchewan Roughriders

August 17, 2014 - Toronto Argonauts

August 22, 2014 - Winnipeg Blue Bombers

August 24, 2014 - Ottawa RedBlacks

September 1st, 2014 - Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Calgary Stampeders

September 7, 2014 - Montreal Alouettes

Doesn't look like Edmonton is taking part in this? :(

Saskatchewan has actually done a full unveiling of their new jersey since they'll be using them within the next week. Personally, I say it doesn't look that bad for a football jersey. However, the "texture" they put on the helmet makes it look like a watermelon (which isn't that far off, since Rider fans have been known to sport their own "watermelon helmets" during home games).

So according to the following page on the CFL's Official website, it looks like Edmonton will indeed have a Signature jersey:

They (Edmonton) apparently will be the last team to unveil/debut their jersey. It looks like, for some reason, they just didn't get a teaser video.

So 3 more teams have revealed/unveiled their Signature jerseys:

Since Toronto already has a white jersey for when they play away games, this isn't that far of a stretch for them. Having the white helmet and more of the light blue (compared to the normally dominant dark blue) was a nice way to change things up. But what now, trying to copy hockey jerseys by putting the team logo on the front?

Nice that they gave them a red jersey, plaid helmet is definitely a first (I'm wondering if that's what made Burris laugh in the teaser video  ). I'm sensing a pattern with the team logo on the front.

Just gotta say about the Bombers' jersey...I personally don't like it. No gold included (which is the biggest complaint Bomber fans have about them), instead we get the double-blue scheme that the Toronto Argonauts are known for. They don't look too bad when the players wear them with the helmet, but the problem is that without the helmet, the jersey (more precisely the replica versions they've made for fans to purchase) just looks like an greyish-blue t-shirt with the digi-camo parts.

Hamilton has revealed of it's Signature jersey. The logos on their helmets are huge, however with the jersey itself, unlike what we've seen so far from the other teams so far, Hamilton did not deviate too much from the look they have with their current home jerseys.

Montreal has also revealed their Signature jersey, however as of this post, they've only posted pictures. No video yet, and no idea if they'll have one at all.

And of course, they had to make a video for the BC Lions. After all, when they debuted these gunmetal jerseys last year, it kind of prompted the league to do this whole "Signature" look thing this season.

Oh, and they may be a little late to the party, but Edmonton finally got a teaser video!

Andy Fantuz of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats breaks the record for the most one-handed catches within 1 minute. :thumbsup

His final count could have been even higher if he hadn't been for the ones that he dropped. :P

Personally, to be honest, the new logo does nothing for me. It works well as a watermark in YouTube videos, but otherwise, it's just.....too......blah. I don't know who they hired to design it or how much they paid him/her/them to do so, but really, I've seen better/more impressive work from a lot of the high school Graphic Arts kids that I work with.

In other CFL news, it's Grey Cup weekend! Unfortunately daigong isn't able to make it out here to Peg Sheety to cheer on his Eskies tomorrow as they take on the Ottawa REDBLACKS, who managed to make it to the big game in only the franchise's 2nd year of operations!  :shocked

But no need to fear bro! Peg Sheety crew's gonna show your boys the love and support as they go on to whup those wannabe lumberjacks!  :jphip:

The NHL isn't the only league switching to adidas for their uniforms. A league-wide unveiling happened today, with a couple of teams adopting more changes than others.

CFL.ca - New Season, New Style: The adidas CFL Collection has landed!

Honestly, the biggest surprise for me was the fact that adidas did NOT force their "3 stripes" onto the jerseys like how many people suspected they would.

Touching tribute at Esks.com: http://www.esks.com/2016/09/03/eskimos-mourn-passing-normie-kwong

Quote from: Edmonton Eskimos Official Website
The Edmonton Eskimos mourn the passing of former Lt.-Gov. and running back Norman “Normie” Kwong, who passed away Saturday, September 3, at the age of 86.

Kwong spent 10 years with the Green and Gold from 1951 to 1960. The Calgary native began his career with the Stampeders in 1948 before he was acquired by the Eskimos.

Photos of Normie Kwong, supplied. For David Staples feature to run.
In 183 career regular-season games, he ran 9,022 yards for an average of 5.2 yards per carry and scored 83 total touchdowns during an 11-year career of recorded statistics (CFL rushing yardage was not kept in the West Division prior to 1950).

He won the Grey Cup four times with seven appearances, once in 1948 with the Stampeders and then three in a row with the Green and Gold (1954, 1955, 1956).

Kwong was a four-time Western Conference All-Star, (1951, 1953, 1955, 1956) and a three-time winner of the Eddie James Memorial Trophy, leading the West in rushing (1951, 1955, 1956). He was the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian in 1955 and 1956. Also in 1955, was named the Canadian athlete of the year.

Kwong held the CFL record for most rushing yards in a single season by a Canadian with 1,437 in 1956 in 15 games. The record held for 56 years and it is still an Esks team record. He also holds the Eskimos record for most rushing touchdowns in a career with 72. Kwong added 75 receptions for 903 yards and four touchdowns during his impressive career.

He was inducted into the CFL Hall of Fame in 1969, the Canada Sports Hall of Fame in 1975, the Eskimos Wall of Honour in 1983 and the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 1987.

After football, Kwong transitioned into politics. He was made a member of the Order of Canada in 1988 and served as the national chairman of the Canadian Consultative Council on Multiculturalism. He was appointed Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta on Jan. 20, 2005 and served out his term until May 11, 2010.

Edmonton-January 20, 2004-Norman Kwong, the sixteenth Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, was officially installed as Lieutenant Governor of Alberta at Government House Thursday.

Talk about a small world. This happened last Friday (2017.12.08) at a local high school here in Peg Sheety. I'm actually going to be working at this school tomorrow, and I know the kid that got KO'd.

EDIT: They came up with a better title for the post. :P2

Oh and yeah, I'm going to be keeping an eye out for the kid in the hallways.

EDIT: For the record, I didn't see the kid today.

Just bring that debate about the CFL me and kuro had here too. About time this thread got action since we went to the Grey Cup with KT, JFC, jonbobman, and Tom_Green

YO me and Kuro had this thread on twitter in light of the Redskins name change talk and a major sponsor pulled out of the Esks 50/50 draw....but Eskimos name change is inevitable?!?!
