[CHI] Sammo Hung
« on: November 09, 2008, 09:01:52 PM »

Sammo Hung is a Chinese actor, producer and director from Hong Kong, known for his work in many kung fu films and Hong Kong action cinema. He has been a fight choreographer for, amongst others, Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, King Hu, Stephen Chow and John Woo.

Hung is one of the pivotal figures who spearheaded the Hong Kong New Wave movement of the 1980s, helped reinvent the martial arts genre and started the Jiang Shi (hopping vampire) genre. He is widely credited with assisting many of his compatriots by giving them their starts in the Hong Kong film industry, by giving them cast and crew roles in the films which he produced.

In East Asia, it is common for people to address their elders or influential people with familial nouns as a sign of familiarity and respect. Jackie Chan, for example, is often addressed as "Dai Goh", meaning Big Brother. Hung was known also known as "Dai Goh", until the filming of Project A, which featured both actors. As Hung was the eldest of the kung fu "brothers", and the first to make a mark on the industry, he was given the nickname "Dai Goh Dai", meaning, Big, Big Brother or Biggest Big Brother.

Total badass dude, he's probably the next best fight choreographer after Bruce Lee.

I guess Bruce passed on the torch when he kicked his ass in the opening of Enter the Dragon ^^

Recommendations would be Victim, Warriors 2, Prodigal son..

SAMMO HUNG'S DETERMINATION TO LOSE WEIGHT IS HARD TO FIND

Sammo Hung Kam Bo and Ti Lung yesterday attended a 2010 World Super Bicycle exhibit and Sower Chung Yung Cycling for Education event to urge people to ride bicycles to raise fund for education development in China.

Sammo's film IP MAN 2 performed well at the box office and later will hold a celebration, which he might not attend due to a physical examination. He said, "Every year I go for a check up. (Did the doctor ask you to lose weight?) Not only the doctor, everyone is telling me to lose weight, but I have a very hard with the determination to lose it. I would lose a little for movies, but when I return to Hong Kong I couldn't help myself. If the old lady is around I am a little better, otherwise I would let myself go." He also said that lately he exercised later. Although earlier he was a spokesperson for the Wii, the company did not give him a machine to play with. His daughter bought the one at home because she hoped he would lose weight with it. Normally he and his wife played video games like golf and hula hoop more.

....
Ti Lung yesterday donated HK$5,000 and brought a photo from his milk delivery days. Actually back then his monthly salary was only $5. Ti Lung also said that because he had to work on JUSTICE BAO in Hengdian he could not participate in the event. Was his son Shaun Tam Chun Yin disillusioned with on screen performance? He said, "No, every person's experience is different. Sometimes when he is disillusioned I would encourage me." He also said that his son just returned from acting in the Mainland and would work behind the scene as well. Later he bought a VCD of his son's series to watch and had an exchange about acting.

Sammo Hung Knocked Out While Shooting "Ip Man 2"
2010-05-06 17:17:49     CRIENGLISH.com      Web Editor: zhucheng

Sixty-year-old Hong Kong kung fu star Sammo Hung reveals that he was knocked out while shooting a fight scene for "Ip Man 2," M1905.com reports.

Hung, the action choreographer for the martial arts film, won the 2008 Hong Kong film award for his excellent work on "IP Man." In addition, Hung plays a veteran kung fu master in the sequel.

Hung says that in the film, he has two tremendous fight scenes, one with Donnie Yen and the other with a boxing king from Britain. While shooting the scene with the British boxer, he was knocked out.

"It was a tough scene for me, as I had to act and direct at the same time. And the British boxer was a bit nervous about hitting me. The shoot was repeated a few times until he really hit me with full force and I was knocked out," said Hung.

Although in his 60s, he was able to recover quickly due to his excellent physical condition from years of martial arts training. His nose, mouth and chin were bleeding, but he refused to go to the hospital.

"Because it was the last scene of the film, I didn't want hundreds of staff there to wait for me while I was in the hospital. I just called my doctor and made an appointment. I went to the hospital five hours later and got four stitches in my face," said Hung.

Sammo Hung is back later this year with martial arts mayhem aplenty in Choy Li Fut.

Two best friends in Europe (played by real-life best friends Sammy Hung and Kane Kosugi) who love martial arts. They are Hung Gar exponents after learning the art from Hung's father (Sammo Hung). When they want to learn other forms of martial arts, they head off to China in an attempt to learn the art of Choy Li Fut Kung Fu. Kosugi's character wants to learn the art because his grandfather was once defeated by a female exponent of the art and wanted to learn but never had the chance to. When the duo head to China, they learn that the Choy Li Fut school is being challenged by a rival school. Hung and Kosugi enter a martial arts tournament to save the future of the school
