Boondocks *IS* Good

I can't believe I slept on this shit for so long. I heard of the comic strip back when I still read Time. And lord knows I don't read the newspaper - well. we never got this comic but I never bothered to read it on the net either. I just SLEPT on it until they released the cartoon, and it took some encouraging to DL and watch it but with guest voices like Charlie Murphy and Samuel L. Jackson, I just had to take a look.

Yes. It's "The Boondocks" animated version on [adult swim] And WOW. It just ain't just some fuckin rehash shit like "Charlie Brown" or "For Better of for Worse" - the animation is solid. Pure ANIME style. The language is raw and hardcore just the way I like it. Best cartoon in years as "Family Guy" loses its lustre.

What do y'all think of it? Talk about the show and comics here!

I always check out the comics when I get a chance in the newspapers. It's alright but it's always too short, 3 to 4 frames only.

The cartoon is good though. I especially like Uncle Rucker; his obsession for white people is absolutely hilarious. Nothing really special about Riley and Huey though since I know thier attitude from the comics. Now they're just missing that puerto rican kid who hangs around with Huey (the younger kid?) who always wears a beanie.

I read a few strips of the comic before the show aired and thought they were pretty damn hilarious. Most were about McDonalds though, and I remember I read one about Michael Jackson.

The show is even more funny, especially that episode about Anal rape.

My favorite episode still is the one with the ho and A Pimp Named Slickback:

"Let us pray the Pimp's Prayer... Lord, please pray for the soul of this bitch and guide my pimp hand and make it strong, Lord, so that she might learn a hoe's place. Amen."

I need to use that everytime the we have to take care of troublemakers LMFAO

My fav. Episode is The one that starts with the n**** moment.

Any time you get Al Sharpton getting all pissy about something means that it's something worth checking out.  After all, he's such a media whore that he'll only "speak up" about shit that will get him national publicity.

Word. Al Sharpton doesn't understand satire. What ifs. Some people just take things too damn seriously.

I'm glad to find some people enjoy the fine work of Aaron McGruder. I like the show but love the comic even more so. So far my two favorite episodes are "A Huey Freeman Christmas" and "The Return of The King".

The Boondocks Gets Greenlight for Season Two

20 New Episodes of Hit Adult Swim Series to Debut Beginning in Winter 2006

Adult Swim has given the greenlight for a second season of The Boondocks, the new hit series from creator Aaron McGruder, based on his award-winning comic strip of the same name. The network has ordered 20 new episodes of the series, which is produced by McGruder's production company, Rebel Base, in association with Sony Pictures Television.

Called “brilliantly funny” and “a water cooler series that lives up to the hype,” the series made its premiere on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005. It ranked as the best series premiere in Adult Swim history, and has consistently ranked among the top programs on basic cable each week among young adult viewers. This month, The Boondocks was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Comedy Series.

New episodes are expected on Adult Swim in late 2006. Ten episodes of the initial 15-episode order have already aired this season.

“Thank God for The Boondocks and Aaron McGruder,” said Mike Lazzo, Cartoon Network’s senior vice president, programming and production, responsible for Adult Swim.

“Adult Swim’s passion for this show has been evident from day one, and we’re thrilled to be on this journey together. Aaron has created a group of amazing characters that tell entertaining and thought provoking stories, and we are so grateful to have found the perfect home for them,” said Zack Van Amburg, Co-President, Programming & Production for Sony Pictures Television.

In The Boondocks, when Robert “Granddad” Freeman becomes legal guardian of his rambunctious grandkids, he moves from the south side of Chicago to the quiet and safety of “The Boondocks” (in this case, suburban Woodcrest), hoping that he can ignore them altogether and enjoy the fourth quarter of his life in peace. But Huey, a 10-year-old left wing revolutionary, is determined not to enjoy the affluence of suburbia. This attitude is seconded by his 8-year-old brother, Riley, a proud product of contemporary rap culture. Although they torture each other and provoke the neighborhood, they are no match for Granddad, who is eccentric even by “crazy-ass-old-black-man” standards.

Aaron McGruder is creator and executive producer of The Boondocks. The series is produced by Rebel Base in association with Sony Pictures Television. Reginald Hudlin is also an executive producer on the series.

Synopsis for the final three episodes of the first season

"Wingmen"
When Granddad’s oldest friend dies, the Freemans go back home and both Granddad and Huey have to learn to put the past behind them.

"The Block is Hot" (Possible Season Finale)
Jazmine learns the true meaning of "capitalism" when she sells her lemonade stand to corporate tycoon Ed Wuncler.

"The Passion of Ruckus"
While Ruckus spreads the word of White Jesus to get into White Heaven, Huey tries desperately to save his friend from death row.

Post by: A1 on September 26, 2006, 05:47:10 PM
"The Boondocks," the comic strip about a black family living in the suburbs, will take a longer hiatus from the nation's newspapers than originally planned.

Aaron McGruder, who in February put his strip on what was supposed to be a six-month hiatus, has not decided when, or if, he will return to newspapers, Universal Press Syndicate announced Monday. The syndicate stressed that McGruder has made no statement about retiring. (http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/books/09/25/boondocks.comics.ap/index.html)

As much as I like the show, I rather have the comic strip. Always looked forward to reading and sharing them with other people.

Animated Series ‘The Boondocks’ Set To Return in 2010
Published 12/28/2009 · By Allen Starbury

Aaron McGruderAfter a nearly three-year hiatus, the popular animated series "The Boondocks" is set to return to TV in the New Year, its creator Aaron McGruder said.

According to Vibe.com, the cartoonist took to his Twitter page on Christmas Day, revealing news that a third season of the series will air in early 2010.

"Finally got an airdate for Season 3," McGruder wrote (@AaronMcGruder). "Not sure if I'm allowed to put it out yet, so I'll just say you got about three months! Merry Xmas!!"

The popular-yet-controversial comic strip-turned-cartoon debuted in 2005 on the Cartoon Network and ran for two seasons before its lengthy hiatus.

The show received criticism for its heavy use of the word "n****", but McGruder defended its use arguing that the "large-scale usage of the word provides the show with a level of realism," says Wikipedia.

During the second season of "The Boondocks", two episodes were banned without any official word from the network. According to reports, the banned episodes were heavily critical of BET. A source told HipHopDX at the time that BET had been pressured Sony (the studio behind The Boondocks) to ban the episodes and threatened legal action. Cartoon Network publicly stated that "...neither Turner nor Adult Swim were contacted by BET." Two episodes were eventually included in the Season 2 DVD release.

No official word when Season 3 is set to air.

From THE BOONDOCKS comic strip and animated series on ADULT SWIM, the legendary UNCLE RUCKUS is coming to the big screen in LIVE-ACTION

WHO IS UNCLE RUCKUS?!

Those of you familiar with THE BOONDOCKS already know who Uncle Ruckus is. He's the hard-working, slur-spitting handyman you love to hate. If you're not familiar with Uncle Ruckus, it's difficult to even describe him without violating Kickstarter's hate speech policy.

If you do know who Uncle Ruckus is, you either really love him or really hate him. But if you’ve made it this far, you probably love him like we do. This is your movie.

To that end, we are raising funds for an R-rated theatrical comedy featuring Uncle Ruckus, to be produced this year. The movie will be written and directed by AARON MCGRUDER, and stars GARY ANTHONY WILLIAMS - who does the voice of Uncle Ruckus on the animated series. The story, which is currently being written,  will not involve any of the other regular BOONDOCKS characters, but rather explore a part of the Ruckus family not seen in the show.

WHY LIVE ACTION?!

From our PRODUCTION BLOG (Coming soon):

“There’s always been interest in a live-action Boondocks movie, which to me was out of the question considering Huey and Riley are essentially impossible to cast. The animated feature would cost around 20 million, but a live action Uncle Ruckus movie could cost a fraction of that. So just for the hell of it we had the costume made and it was pretty amazing. To see Gary actually transform into Uncle Ruckus... it’s quite the surreal experience.  I never expected the transition to be so completely seamless.”

                                                                -Aaron McGruder

WHY KICKSTARTER?

First, because SONY (who produces THE BOONDOCKS animated series) is not involved with this project in any way. In fact, there are no investors, corporate or otherwise, involved with the movie as of this moment. This whole thing is kind of an odd idea, so we're starting with Kickstarter on this one and we'll just see what happens.

Crowd funding, however, is a big deal. It represents an entirely new relationship between fan and creator. It also represents a new financial model for making stuff, and that’s exciting.

Uncle Ruckus has a lot of supporters out there. If they want this to happen, they can make it happen.

LIKE A BIG ASS BAKE SALE!!

Like any fundraiser, Kickstarter works by selling fans something they would actually want, and using that money to fund projects. If you're not into giving away money, you can think of it more like a purchase. With Kickstarter, if we don't reach our money goal in time, you don't get charged and basically nothing happens. If we do reach our financial goals, you get the stuff you paid for.

If this is your first exposure to Kickstarter, I know, it sounds crazy. But people keep telling me it works so I'm going with it.

PRE ORDER THE DVD, KINDA!

Kickstarter allows donations from one dollar to ten thousand dollars. For most people, the best bet is our CLINT EASTWOOD rank (our reward levels are named after great white Americans). You'll receive a DVD of the movie when released on home video. There are music downloads, T-shirts, all types of Ruckus related goodies for those of you unafraid to publically express your support for such an awful human being.

RISKS AND CHALLENGES Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

The money we are raising represents partial funding for the film, so the first challenge is to raise the rest of the money. Obviously, if we exceed our fundraising goals, this may not be an issue, but this is the first hurdle we have to clear if this campaign is successful.

After that, the project faces all of the normal challenges that go along with production - which are too numerous and unpredictable to delineate here. Movie-making is a messy, chaotic business. Delays caused by issues with collaborators, unforeseen additional filming, technical issues, actors getting arrested for something ridiculous - are all issues we've faced in the past and will likely continue to face. Backers will be kept up-to-date on progress through our production blog. If something goes terribly wrong, you'll be the first to know.

If for some reason we reach our Kickstarter goals, but still fail to actually get the movie off the ground, the following will happen:

All Bag O' Ruckus rewards will be fulfilled (mid 2013).

An Uncle Ruckus mockumentary UNCLE RUCKUS SAVES AMERICA will be produced in place of THE UNCLE RUCKUS MOVIE, allowing all of the rewards to remain unaffected.

Please back the Uncle Ruckus Movie. Then be very ashamed of yourself.

- The Management

Anyone contributed to getting it funded??
