eurovision song contest 2008
« on: May 14, 2008, 12:41:06 AM »
www.eurovision.tv

awight, this years participants are interesting as well as the songs. off course there are some really plain and weird compositions and the english lyrics for some songs isnt really working as well (cheesiness).  anyway, a wide variations of styles to choose from.
so who are your (coming) favorites?
i'm already rooting for

Andorra- your typical easy listening dance number , but very catchy and a hot chick singing the song
Danmark - great voice and his looks will also aid him reaching the finals I think
Georgia - easy to sing about peace, but this one has a really nice sound to it
Greece- not really my cup of tea, but at least it has a cool beat
Hungary - sucker for dramatic ballads , instant fave
Israel - just wow, cant imagine that dana international wrote this song
Moldova - the underdog IMO, i really hope they get some recognition
ROmania - nicely sung and melodic duet
Switzerland - nice build up and reminds me bit of eros ramazotti songs

my choices are based on impressions of first time listenings
and apparantely i like more songs than expected...
as for my country's song(netherlands), a bit better than last years, but a lot of fierce competition

Just prepare for Ireland's entry. A dance number called 'Irelande Douze Point' all sung by a puppet of a turkey named Dustin, a popular TV personality in Ireland. Top it all off with some crappy backing vocals and dancers and you've got a clear piss-take.

Which is really what all of us here in the UK view the contest as anyway.

^ Oh really? lol shame. Loved Dustin as a kid. Dustin, Socky, Ray Darcy, happy days.... Would be funny just to see the reactions of other people. I thought Ireland was one of the countries funding the contest so do they not gain automatic placement? I don't know the details.

* nachdenki is bitter
my favorite artist didn't even make it into the final (Swedish one :P).
And I don't really like the whole show anymore, so I'm not interested
[/bittermode off]

I hope it's going to be fair show and even though I don't have a favorite I hope someone good wins XD

For the last few years I've managed to not hear the UK entry until the contest itself, which is probably for the best as our entry is usually a heap of crap.

Nederland had Behave moeten sturen ipv Treble vorig jaar.. dan hadden we serieus nog eens een kans gemaakt  :P

My favorites this year include Finland, Azarbaijan and Bosnia & Herzegovina.

I'm so confused about them doing semis and such, i don't see how it makes it fairer.

Anyway will probably watch tonight, hoping for some good eurobeat xDxD

oh yh England entry is boring as anything.  England really doesn't seem to get how the songs for the eurovision work >_<

set made by me

Bosnia ftw, now THAT is what Eurovision and music in general is all about!

Other faves include Turkey, Albania and Azerbaijan for me; shame San Marino didn't get through they weren't half bad either.

I've got the Eurovision album downloaded and been hammering some of the tunes already! I can't remember the last time I was actually looking forward to this...

I forgot to watch the second semi... but I really liked Georgia's song.
The first semi included a lot of crap. Like Poland's entry.. wtf was that? o_O
Anyway. I'm glad Sweden made it. I think that is a good song... maybe just because they are playing 10 times a day on the radio. =D
If England didn't have a sure spot each year they might send better song's what they use to send is plain... BAD.
Same with Germany, those people has a wierd sense of humor. I think my grandma is a bit funny, but her relatives from germany has that wierd sense of humor. Like men in ugly mustasches and a wierd shirt. =D

Anyway, I can rant forever about this... I look forward to the finals this evening. I'm gonna make a lot of candy and laugh alot at the costumes =D

ugh not liking the winning song (=russia)  at all. that iceskating dude was so out of place. and the singing is so not natural.
greece or armenia were much better IMo. although my vote went to norway~
poor Uk and germany ending last again. France and Spain were at least a bit fun to watch/listen.
Maybe all the western countries should follow their footsteps/
