The second film is not as good as the first.  I'm surprised, I thought Battle Royale was somewhat well known outside of Japan.  Netflix doesn't even have it.

According to Quentin Tarantino, the movie made it to his Top 20 list of favorite movies that he'd watch since becoming a director. In fact, it's his #1 favorite movie on the list.

Battle Royale is amazing!! I remember I didn't know it before see it on a videoclub back on 2003/2004 under the name "Juego Sangriento" (Bloody Game) and I readed the synopsis behind the box and it seemed promising.
As the moment it started I didn't interrupted it! I love violent movies talking about dystopia.
Months later a friend bought me the novel and it's one of my favorite books! I found really nice some extra details about the rest of the characters; but if I have to choose, my favorite is the manga! it's crude as the novel is but with more background updates. (Damn, Mitsuko doing a reference of Natural Born Killers just made me happy while reading it).

I'm not so against a remake, because you can always choose the version you like the best. So be scandalized about it it's pointless 0:

I readed that someone mentioned a remake trailer but I didn't find it (the post is from 2007 and this video is recent). I just found this fan-made video and actually it doesn't look so bad...it kinda looks like one of those movies you watch during weekends on tv.

Battle Royale 3D announced  :banghead:

Japanese studio Toei is preparing a 3D version of Kinji Fukasaku’s cult action thriller Battle Royale, which is one of the widest selling movies ever from Japan.
    [...]
Fukasaku’s son, Kenta Fukasaku, is supervising the 2D to 3D conversion in Tokyo through this production company Fukasaku-Gumi. Kinji Fukasaku passed away in 2003, so Kenta took over directing duties on a sequel, Battle Royale 2: Requiem, which was released later the same year.

The 3D version of the original will be ready for market screenings in October and released in Japan on November 20. Like the original, the 3D version will have an R-15 rating in Japan.

The Original Battle Royale was highly recommended to me by a friend, and once I saw it............I see why he liked it. It was great, and if I can find a translated version of the book, I would like to read it.
BR was released in December 2000, so the 10 year anniversary is coming soon.
I saw a Japanese Television Drama that came out three years before BR (October 2007), called "Bokuro no Yuuki - Miman Toshi" which starred Koichi Domoto and Tsuyoshi Domoto (collectively known as the KinKi Kids), also starring a very good actress named Mai Hosho. Haven't seen much of her lately, but she is all that and a bag of chips.
Also in support was a very young Jun Matsumoto (he of Arashi if you are not an Earthling) who was great in his role. "Bokura No Yuuki Miman Toshi" was a science fiction, but it tapped into the same fear that BR tapped into- the youth cannot be trusted (and of course for kids it was the sure knowledge that you cannot trust the establishment) Great theme song, of course- "Ai Sareru Yori Ai Shitai" sung by the KinKi Kids.

I have the german version from this book, but the book is very different from the movie ^^

And the Manga are very brutal and violent compared to the movie

I really liked #1 - especially I thought the tag line was effective:
