I love how you included my own personal nickname for her, along with the photo that inspired it. XD

Now for some FUN FACTS about Sakura and her place as the sole 11th generation member and 34th overall member of Morning Musume...she is:

the 14th member from the Kanto region
the 4th member from Kanagawa Prefecture (specifically the city of Zama, the same hometown as Erina Mano and Saki Shimizu)
the 7th member with the 田 kanji in her surname
the 2nd member with the 小 kanji in her surname
the 6th member with a given name entirely in hiragana
the 3rd member representing a single member generation (or 4th if you wanna argue for Mitsui being the sole winner of her audition)
the 4th member to have come from the Egg/Trainee program
the 5th member to have been born after the group's creation/debut

She is also yet another member to join Morning Musume after having previously failed a H!P/Tsunku-driven audition (finalist for 2nd gen S/mileage), joining the ranks of Miki Fujimoto (made the top 100 for 4th gen, didn't make the finals), Reina Tanaka (finalist for 5th gen, disqualified for lying about her age), and the entire first generation (the initial rock singer audition won by Michiyo Heike).

I'm looking forward to a bright future ahead for her and the group. Can she live up to the hype???

Not bad, though we couldn't really (IMO) properly see her dancing due to that camera shot being awfully close.

EDIT:

FYI, the ads at approximately the 01:30 and 03:00 marks appear to be embedded right in the vid, leading me to think that it was recorded off of an online broadcast/stream.

Speaking of genius, the part at the end where they secretly test how honest she was about her favorite foods was brilliant! If you only watch one part of this video, I'd recommend this part at the end!

- Suzuki Kanon-san. We get along very well!

- Ikuta-san. I noticed how much of a good senpai she actually is. Even though she was very open and friendly at the beginning, she has become stricter since I've joined.

- Um, a hotelier? We had a school trip that would have simulated this but I didn't get picked, so I wanted to try it.

- Applying makeup that will give me puppy eyes (koinu makeup), to walk in the sky (wtf?), and to be able to forget that the staff are watching me and be able to enjoy concerts as I like

Where do you most want to go now?
- Home. Yes, in my hometown. I want to see my cats.

If there is any one wish you can be granted, what would it be?
- I want to become someone who will never be confused or unsure.

If you were to go to an amusement park, where would you go first?
- I'll get on the nearest ride from where I am!

What is something that moved you lately?
- When I saw Michishige-san and Tanaka-san speaking to the 9/10kies as allies (implied, on equal terms) about serious stuff. It felt like they were able to discuss things that had happened to them and I felt very touched just by watching them.

What is something that made you cry lately?
- When I got a solo part in the medley, when I saw Sato-san get upset, I found myself getting upset too.

What is something that made you happy lately?
- I managed to talk a lot with Tsugunaga-san. (Q: How was she?) She was exactly like she acts on TV. Like, she told me not to call her Tsugunaga-san, but to call her Momochi-senpai, and to drop the formalities.

How do you release your stress?
- By crying.

What is something you can't stop doing?
- I couldn't stop eating dried sea urchin eggs.

What do you do during your breaks in school?
- I'll definitely step out into the hallways and walk around. I'll usually call out to others for no particular reason and pass notes under the table at school.

What is something you would like to point out about the song, "Help Me!!"?
- During the chorus, it's very important to match the brightness of the lyrics to the rhythm of the song. Because the lyrics don't quite match the beat, we have to be careful when we sing that part.

What is something you wuld like to point out for the dance in "Help Me!!"?
- Having to be in formation with everyone else. There's a lot of movement and changing of positions so I have to be careful about keeping in step with everyone else.

Which part of the dance did you struggle with the most?
- When we have to move our upper bodies in a square-ish, boxy way. I can never seem to move my shoulders the same way as my senpai. I had to keep watching the dance shot over and over again to try and fix the problem.

What were your thoughts when you first heard the song?
- That even though there's a new member who just joined, the song is still really adult-like. I was surprised. I thought we would get something like Pyoko Pyoko Ultra again since I just came in as a new member.

What is something that makes you want to go "Help Me!!"?
- I still think I really need help remembering how to bid farewell to everyone properly. I can never remember how to do it properly, and recently there was the Hello!Project concert with all the senpai who came to visit, so it was really tough then... (Q: Like who?) Um, like Abe Natsumi-san?

Is there anything you want to tell people who will be listening to "Help Me!!" for the first time?
- I'm sure there will be parts when on the first listen you will go "eh? who just said what?", and that because of the complex melody, it's easy to mishear lyrics. Also there are the spoken parts where you have to figure out who's actually talking, and I feel like there are a lot of places where you will want to hear again, so I hope that everyone will keep it on repeat in order to figure out all these things!

What are the things you have to be conscious of as an idol?
- A lot of etiquette, like having to sit down with your legs fully closed and knees touching. Usually at school my skirt is really long so people can't really tell if I'm sitting properly, but after becoming an idol I have to wear short skirts more often, so I have to pay more attention in that sense.

Is there anything you want the fans to notice about you?
- I would like the fans to watch over me as I try my best to gel with the rest of the members.

What is your goal for the year?
- To learn how to use my time productively, like remembering all the dances before going to rehearsal, and studying for tests in school, basically having to balance both school and work at the same time.

Lastly, do you have anything to add?
- Somehow, I always feel very odd when my senpai see my profile videos. And for today, I'm very glad to be able to do a shoot here in the Help Me!! outfit and in such a relaxed setting. Thank you!

I'm honestly not sure what to think about Sakura, seeing how she's only been in MM for a few months. But seeing as how her mentor is Kuduu, we can only imagine how awesome she'll turn out. :D

Is it just me, or is Oda like THE stereotypical H!P character, appearance-wise?

She looks like a mix of Ai and Risa to me, so she instantly oozes that H!P vibe XD

She totally has the same monkee girl vibe that Aichan had, there are many moments when she resembles Aichan. Even when singing sometimes :lol: growl

For me, Odachan's strength is her warm smile. She seems so genuinely sweet, aw bless. :heart:

What astonishes me the most about her is how versatile she is. She can channel Fujimoto, Takahashi or Matsuura effortlesly and sing almost any kind of songs. And she's only 14! Imagine what she'll get to once she passes puberty.

Oda: (interrupting) Yes! Definitely a change occurred in Sato-san shortly following Tanaka (Reina)-san's graduation. It is like she is striving to fill the void left by Tanaka-san's departure, or maybe aiming for a similar position in the group. Just to illustrate: Tanaka-san always sings the consonants strongly, and the vowels softly, and this creates her signature rhythm and style of singing which Sato-san is very faithfully trying to reproduce. Even if you ask everyone to simply hum a melody, I can easily tell Sato-san from the rest because of that.

Sato: Actually, at times I feel a little depressed because my voice is so unlike the others.

Interviewer: It is kind of too high, is it not?

Sato: It is. And I talked to the voice teacher and we came up with a plan to emphasize the consonants and just go on laying on the stress like «Bang! Bang!» This is what I am now experimenting with.

Oda: I see, singing aggressively right from the beginning. So that your words really sound sharp and clear.

Sato: Right, so if I have to be different because of my voice, al least I want to be different in a good way. It has nothing to do with trying to imitate Tanaka-san, really...

Oda: I understand now.

Interviewer: I have to admit I never expected to hear such serious talk from Sato-san (laughs). And what about you Oda-san? Have you been getting accustomed to being part of the group?

Oda: I think so. Recently I have been kind of studying the other members, so hard it even has me worried (laughs).

Sato: Oda-chan always knows what everybody is thinking!

Oda: Not really. Somebody like Ikuta (Erina)-san or Suzuki (Kanon)-san, they are very genuine persons, so when they are stressed or they are happy, all those emotions are on their faces. No deep psychology involved; rather, I just watch and note: so this is how she looks when she feels this way.

Sato: Still, Oda-chan, I think nobody understands all of us better than you do.

Oda: Speaking of which, recenty Ikuta-san and Suzuki-san are becoming really good friends. In the dressing room the two are always together, chatting.

Sato: Very different from us the 10-gen. Somehow each of the four of us is doing her own thing more and more often these days. It does not help that two out of the four are so capricious... and I am talking about A and M here.

Interviewer: A and M?

Oda: I think it stands for (Ishida) Ayumi and (Sato) Masaki.

Sato: Since we are both so temperamental, sometimes we even fight. If the 10-gen members were classmates in school, I do not think we would even talk to each other. Especially not me and Runan (Iikubo Haruna), we would never talk.

Oda: Because you would not even be classmates. Different school years. (laughs)

Interviewer: Is there any member, in particular, who you noticed go through a big change recently?

Sato: Asami! Though she always was a hard worker, she has taken in to a new level I think. She is rewatching the videos from our concerts I do not know how many times. I think, she is drawing her inspiration from Sayashi (Riho)-san, or maybe, wants to challenge her.

Interviewer: Or maybe she is in love with her (laughs)

Sato: (ignoring) And, she now talks a lot! And I mean really! In the variety shows, she now always wants to be in front. Completely different from before.

Interviewer: It seems like you are on a course for more and more TV appearances. Your talk show skills are going to be tested.

Oda: Training to become better singers and dancers is something we are used to, but teaching somebody to become an exciting person to talk to is different. It is difficult. When I am watching variety shows now, I try to grasp what makes them work, but... Makes you wish there was something like lessons you could take and turn into a good speaker.

Sato: In fact! I did take a lesson in articulation. I thought, I must prepare, I must be ready to talk on the shows. But the instructor said after the first class, «This girl is good, nothing there to teach her», and that was it.

Interviewer: Whatever you lack in training, Sato-san, I think you more than make up for in raw energy. But somehow you are surprisingly silent on TV?

Sato: Because they would not let me talk. They say, «We turn you loose and god knows what will fly out of your mouth.»

Oda: But I feel it is really valuable to refine those conversation skills. Because you look at how the sempais do the talking and they are very good. Or you watch «Okajo» and it is very funny and good. And it is what we are going to be measured against.

Interviewer: How are relationships within the group? If rumors tell the truth, Sato-san is sticking to Michishige Sayumi-san like glue?

Oda: Very true. They are absolutely never apart, or should I say, Sato-san is never far away from Michishige-san.

Interviewer: With Sato-san monopolizing the group's leader like that, do other members feel it unfair? Or slightly boring?

Oda: Hmmmm... But there is a big positive side to it, too. Michishige-san is a group member like us, but she is also this great sempai who has been fighting on for more than 10 years. And sometimes you cannot help but feel hesitant around her, like when you want to talk to her. But not when Sato-san is also there; with her around, everything just clicks together.

Sato: I, basically, I think I just like talking to everyone. It was great that they filmed that dokkiri (※新春豪華どっきり祭り！3時間半SP), because there you can really see how we are with each other, how everyone is a good friend.

Interviewer: Pardon this question, but did none of you... suspect anything at the time? Honestly?

Oda: How were we supposed to?

Sato: Afterwards, everybody was like «I knew something was not right!» But at the time? I had plugged my cell phone into the wall to charge, and it charged all right too. You would never have expected that wall to come tumbling down!

Interviewer: It was impressive how quickly you scrambled up to sing.

Oda: Me, I was pretty quick at realizing it was a dokkiri in progress, so to speak. I think I knew when I saw the audience. So I thought, «Aha, this is what they had in store for us.»

Sato: I was completely dumbfounded, completely! First, Ayumi shirieks «Hyaaaa!» and I think, is something up? But I look at the clock on my phone, it is still early in the morning and I decide to drift back to sleep (laughs), but then I look around and, what? The walls are gone?...

Oda: For one moment it looked like what you would see in a sento, with that great triangular shape of Mt. Fuji stretching all the way across the view.

Sato: I gazed at the clouds and thought: «I must be in heaven. I died. Farewell, Mother, I am sorry I cannot be with you anymore...» Then the blasts of music came and I jumped up and «What?! What?!» (laughs)

Oda: They did a remarkable job with the stage. They arranged those pieces of cloth, in our member colors, with a microphone neatly placed on each one; cameras and screens and all; they even labeled the seat aisles. Helpful guys that they are. (laughs)

Sato: It was painfully cold. All I wanted was to stay inside my futon. Or at least put on my socks. But the music is playing. Where are the socks? Or must I look for my microphone first? I was panicking. And all the underwear and luggage was strewn around, too...

Oda: It was something.

Sato: I have been making a point of lifting my hair off my forehead. This is my look. But in the dokkiri they filmed me with my hair down... All the hard work! (laughs)

Oda: They really caught you off guard (laughs)

Sato: To prepare for any dokkiris they may pull off in the future, I had mom buy me 10 new pajamas. Come at me all you want, you will never catch me again wearing such uncool clothes! (laughs)

Interviewer: Ikuta-san was wearing that leopard pajama, was she not? Completely in character.

Sato: She was! Like, «I am so yankii» (laughs)

Oda: It sure was a cold day, too. But we had loads of fun.

Interviewer: All right. So, this year there is a new name for the group, and it feels like everyone is prepped and ready for a big battle: «This is the year we get to the top!» Any final thoughts you may want to share?

Sato: WDMB!

Interviewer: Huh? What?

Sato: Will do my best!

Oda: Sato-san has been infected with the acronym disease. She cannot resist calling everything by the first letters. I think we already had a little preview with the «A and M». (laughs)

Interviewer: I see (laughs) Well, so as to not spread the acronym disease around, let us not go much deeper than «WDMB». The question is, you will do your best to ...?

Sato: To remember dates! I am always confused when it comes to dates..

Oda: She comes to you several times every day: «What day is it today?» Or «What day of the week is it tomorrow?»

Interviewer: She did not properly learn about time?

Oda: Or «I know what it is today, but what will it be in two days?...»

Sato: Yeah, it is me! I really want to be able to imagine the calendar in my head. WDMB!

Interviewer: Oda-san, anything you want to add?

Oda: As you said, the group has been renamed «'14». I suppose, a year from now we will be «'15», then «'16», and so on. This means the group that was called «Morning Musume» is now history.

Interviewer: I guess so.

Oda: When people hear about «Morning Musume '14», I mean the ordinary people not fans, they will probably think it is a new group, some kind of a little sister group to the «real» Morning Musume... And, most of us here are actually junior high students, too. What this brings me to think about is the history, the 16 years of history behind this project which will forever remain a very important thing to me. With our current team of ten, we are hoping to propel this group into a new age, but we must not forget we are building on what our sempais managed to achieve.

Interviewer: You want to take pride in both what «'14» is, and what «Morning Musume» was.

Oda: I want us to remain loyal to the memory of «Morning Musume», and maybe the future generations will follow in our footsteps, and who knows, maybe the songs of «'14» will still be there for, maybe, «'37» to sing? So I think what we are trying to create now is extremely important, too. Even though I am currently the one with the least time in the group, I always keep in mind that I am writing a part of this history, too.

Interviewer: Great. Thank you very much!

Ever notice Morningumusu'14's singles have been charting #1 on Oricon ever since she joined? i.e. Sakura has never experienced a single charted lower than #1 weekly
I know this is mostly Up-front's marketing dept's responsible than her; but if Koharu can gain the nickname of "miracle", why not Sakura Morningmusu's "Lucky Talisman"?

...I wonder if she'll ever be allowed to graduate :P

Pretty Cure Series
Since I always read the magazine “Nakayoshi,” I always read the Pretty Cure series! I always watched the TV series along with it, since I was a girl who always admired them, I still like it now! In particular, “Cute Beauty” is my most favourite!

Even Sakura is not absolutely perfect; falsetto seems to be her weakness

We get that her vocals is so good that the company wants to push her, but will giving her songs with this much falsetto emphasis hinder her from potentially be the 2nd Gomaki?

In MM at least she has groupmates to handle the higher notes

Sakura chan has the ability to go beyond hitting all
the right notes- she interprets the song as well. And she doesn't
'over-interpret', as is often the case with younger performers.

Coming from my hip-hop culture perspective, I've always thought cornrows were a generally cool and bad-ass hairstyle, and I've recently found partial cornrows to be a cute female hairstyle, so this really helps me like Sakura even more! It pains me to see folks trash the hairstyle or her for the hairstyle...it's a great look, yo!

The trimmed bangs look she had back in the day was so awkward and didn't really suit her at all, so it's great to see her come a long way from that!

There's not many people with that kind of influential ability, and for me, she's an established category of her own.

——Up until she became Morning Musume。'15, there was often an exterior image of her only being able to speak in, if I had to say, an "airheaded" or "odd girl" kind of way, but I think you were the member that mentioned from the beginning, "Satou-san is an amazing person."

Oda Sakura: That's cause she is a genius. Since before joining Morning Musume。I've thought ah, this person's a genius. Even working with her now I think to myself, she's a genius.

——Due to a herniated lumbar intervertebral disk, her activities paused. Regarding when Morning Musume。'17—as is; with her absence—also started to form their activities, what sort of feelings or thoughts did you have?

Oda Sakura: What I thought was amazing was at that time was the speed of the members' response. At rehearsal, it got to "Positions will be changed. Singing parts will be changed" and in the transferred performance of "Morning Musume。'16 Concert Tour Autumn ～My Vision～", held in Hokkaido, suddenly Ogata Haruna-chan also couldn't appear due to influenza. But in the morning of that day we were bam-bam-bam with "I think if we do it like this it'd look better", "With that position, I'll move like this", and over several hours, we considered, changed, suggested, and brought it to perfection. It wasn't "So-and-so received so-and-so's singing part so let's cover it like them" or "Let's fill so-and-so's vacancy", but from the awareness of filling in for a vacancy, I think everyone kind of held a sense of, "How do I enchant people with my part that's just for today." If you ask me about a crisis, though it was a crisis, if you ask me how did it get to that point, I think it was also a chance.

——I see.

Oda Sakura: However, without Satou-san the liveliness was expectedly lacking (laughs). With Morning Musume, though it's a large number of people, without just one person it rather feels not enough.

——Well then, with the news of "Satou Masaki Stage Activities Resumption" announced the other day, what were your feelings in being able to work together again?

Oda Sakura: Finally we're all together, I thought. Therefore I hope people come see that. There'll be people there who have been looking forward to it all along, for it'll finally be the original Morning Musume。'17, altogether with Satou-san. Certainly even in the form of 12 members without Satou-san, at that time, while I want to show what we'd built during that time, by adding a single person there and how the balance changes—that is also what I'm really looking forward to. I've seen how she connects with the 12th gen. at times and thought, that's pretty funny, so I'd also like to see her mingling with the 13th gen. soon.

——In the news notice, written in her own words, "Though I was told by staff members and my family, "Why don't you rest a bit more?", I really know about my body the most! I will return to Morning Musume!"—while I felt there was a very strong will, what were your thoughts?

Oda Sakura: With our bodies, you never know right? That's why for us as well, should I say, "Please rest for now", should I be supportive? Honestly I don't know what to say, however if that's where Satou-san's feelings are, I'd like to answer with that. Therefore, with Satou-san coming back for the Spring tour this time; myself standing on stage, full of my current feelings—with emphasis on those—wanting to know how the 13th gen. will turn out; wanting to know how the group will turn out—with the various things piling up, in a good way, I can't imagine how things will turn out. Therefore, I'm really looking forward to it. How will it turn out?

——And with that title, I'd like to ask a cliche question: who's the member you feel most jealous of?

Oda Sakura: The person that flashed into mind just now was Satou-san.

——The reason?

Oda Sakura: Cause she's a genius. For example, something that takes me until 4AM in the morning to give form, Satou-san would just finish it in a flash. If I convey an answer that I finally derived after searching excessively for years, she'd just say, "Ah, that thing!" Something that I'd require time to steadily build, doing my best all the way until now, Satou-san would just finish through intuition. I often think, "Even though I was up last night, spending hours doing it......Satou-san just finished it in an instance?" and am envious of that. Also, I envy her ability to get along with people......I think it's amazing.

Oda: That's right. Since Sayashi-san graduated, I get more and more of the feeling that she was truly amazing. The other day, I suddenly got a message from Sayashi-san. We talked about a lot of different things but there was a part of our discussion where she kinda said that I've changed. I've been thinking of this change myself, but never did I think that I would hear it from the person who made me change. It seemed to me that she messaged me because of this. Thinking of it that way, I realized that the things you inherit from your senpai, after some time has passed, truly are big.

HT: What do you think of the timing of her messaging you after all this time?

Oda: She said she was curious/worried so she messaged me. She asked me about the current state of Morning Musume and what kinds of problems we are having. She gave her thoughts on them and asked for my opinions as well.

HT: It really is ideal to have a senpai who you can talk to about those kinds of things even after they've graduated, isn't it?

Oda: That's right. Of course, Sayashi-san and Suzuki-san were from the same generation, but it was actually after their graduations that they've come to talk more about the group. I am alone in my generation so I have no one to talk to about these things. So more than the advice I get from members I see every day, I feel like the advice I get from Sayashi-san and Suzuki-san, whom I never see, has more of a bird's-eye view that I get to organize my feelings better. That's why I am very thankful whenever I get contacted by the two of them, especially as we are all of the same age. Meeting them in this different manner... Realizing that personal relationships change... I feel like I've met them anew. I'm happy.

HT: What kind of existence was Suzuki Kanon for you?

Oda: --- On the performance side of things, I thought about Sayashi-san while on aspects concerning life, I thought about Suzuki-san. ---
