High School Romance
Chapter 3: Rest of the Day
Shocked by the question Eripon looked at Haruna confused. “Eh? Where did that question come from?” She asked.
“Like I said from a small argument from this morning. I was just wondering who would win is all. Humor me if you all will.” Iikubo said not giving much information all while smiling a sneaky little smile.
“Okay if you say so…” Eripon said shrugging it off and continued eating her lunch.
“I will go first since I asked. I believe that Kudo-chan is the better looking of the two. Also, a lot of the traits I’ve seen are cute. Although I do see Ikuta-san’s attractiveness as well. So, who wants to go next?” Iikubo said with a smile to the group.
No one said anything which made it awkward so Haruna nodded to herself. “Okay, I will make this easier for everyone. Whoever thinks Kudo-chan is more attractive will you raise your hand.” Iikubo said with a sneaky smile.
Maa-chan’s hand went straight up while a few of the other girls thought about it for a little while before putting their hands up. It was Zukki, Kananan, Take-chan, Rinapuu, and MeiMei.
“Okay, so that’s seven who pick Kudo over Ikuta-san. Any reason why?” Haruna asked the girls.
“For me, I think Kudo-chan has more about her that I like in terms of looks,” Zukki said with a smile with the other girls nodding.
“And for Ikuta-san?” Iikubo asked even though she and everyone else knew the answer. Fuku-chan raised her hand happily while Ayumi slowly raised her hand blushing.
Eripon was blushing as well looking at the girl she had feelings for who was raising her hand for her.
Fuku-chan decided to say her point before causing a misunderstanding. “I have to go with Eripon between these two but there’s someone else I prefer myself.”
Ayumi sighed to herself in relief thinking about how she seemed to be the only one to like Eripon which meant less competition over the girl she had feelings for.
That is until Haruna decided to point out something random. “Ah Sayashi-san, you haven’t put in your input. Who do you think is more attractive?”
Riho took a moment before she started to smile to herself. “I would prefer to keep it to myself but since everyone else answered I guess I should too.”
Right before she could answer the bell rang for lunch to be almost over and causing everyone to start packing up and go to their classes.
“Hey Ayumi-chan, can I walk you to your class?” Eripon asked her crush that seemed to think that she was attractive.
“Umm, actually I was going to talk to Sayashi-san about something first. You go on ahead to your class maybe tomorrow.” Ayumi said with an apologetic smile.
Even though Eripon was feeling jealous of the fact that Ayumi wanted to talk to Riho about something the jealousy melted away with the Ayumi’s smile and proposal for tomorrow.
“Okay Ayumi-chan, hope I see you later beautiful.” Eripon winked before turning around to catch up with Fuku-chan and Take-chan who were already on their way back to class.
Ayumi blushed at Erina’s words before she shook her head to get her mindset back on asking Riho the question that was bothering her. Thankfully everyone else had already left for their classes leaving just Ayumi and Riho there to talk.
“Hey Sayashi-san, can I ask you a quick question?” Ayumi said as she approached Riho who was making sure she had everything.
Riho turned around and smiled. “Sure Ayumi-chan, what’s your question?” She said even though she kind of already knew what the question was.
“Who were you going to choose between Duu and Ikuta-san? I’m just curious is all.” Ayumi asked calmly even though inside she was freaking out.
Riho smirked before leaning in close to Ayumi making the poor girl uncomfortable. “Are sure you want to know?” She asked the smaller girl.
Ayumi shook off the uncomfortable feeling and looked directly into Riho’s eyes and replying in a challenging tone. “Yes, I’m certain.”
Leaning back Riho answered with her smirk still in place. “Well let’s just say you’re not the only one after Eripon, Ayumi-chan.”
With that response, Riho grabbed her lunch and headed back to her class with Ayumi standing there just shocked.
After a little bit, Ayumi came back to her senses and gathered her things before going back to class.
However, during all of class Ayumi was distracted and couldn’t concentrate on her work. Riho’s words just kept replaying over and over again in her head.
Haruna looked over at her friend noticing that something was wrong and that she had been off since after lunch.
‘I hope I didn’t bother her too much by asking everyone that question. I’ll apologize after class to her.’Meanwhile, in Eripon’s class, the girl was giddy and doodling little hearts in her notebook like the lovesick teenager she was.
She wasn’t paying any attention that she didn’t even notice that class was over for the day until Fuku-chan and Take-chan approached her.
“What are you doing there Eripon?” Fuku-chan asked scaring her friend who had been in her own little world.
Eripon hurriedly closed her notebook and blushed. “Nothing!” She shouted without meaning, causing everyone to look her way which made her blush more and her friends laugh at her.
“Sorry didn’t mean to freak you out that much. Anyway, it’s time for clubs.” Fuku-chan said patting Eripon’s back.
“Oh, is it? I better head out then. Shinoda-sensei wouldn’t be happy with me if I skipped out on the first meeting of the acrobatics club for the year.” Eripon said as she gathered her things and headed toward the door.
“Especially since you’re one of the stars and need to be there for the first years,” Mizuki said as she waved her friend off.
“You made a strange friend there, Fuku-chan,” Akari said as they watched the Erina walked out the door.
“Well, I hope you can become her friend too. She’s a little weird but she’s kinda like my sister now.” Mizuki said looking at her best friend and crush.
“I’m sure I can be her friend too.” Take-chan smiled back at her crush.
“I meant it when I said I missed you, Akari-chan,” Mizuki said looking at Take-chan with a serious face and sad smile.
Shocked by the sudden seriousness from her friend and hearing her name Take-chan turned to look at Mizuki with a smile. “I missed you too, Mizuki-chan. I promise we won’t get separated again.” Take-chan said looking into Fuku-chan’s eyes while holding her hands.
The two stayed like that for a little while before they noticed how they were standing and quickly pulled away from each other, both blushing.
“I guess we better head to our clubs too,” Take-chan said with a nervous laugh.
“Yeah, I have to get to the Art club or Wada-san will be mad at me for being late,” Mizuki said laughing too.
The two gathered their things and went their separate ways for their clubs with both the girls wishing they could spend more time together.
While Mizuki and Take-chan were having their moment Eripon was running off to the gym for her club.
Lucky for Erina the club meeting wouldn’t be that bad and they will mostly be talking about how to recruit new members. Of course, if there were going to be any new members already there then they might want to see what kind of things the club does.
Eripon walked into the locker room and quickly changed into her practice outfit. Even though they might just discuss the plan for the year she always liked being prepared.
As she was leaving the locker room Eripon noticed a girl standing around looking confused. She noticed the ribbon the girl was wearing was the color for the first years and deiced to help the girl out.
“Hello? Are you lost?” Erina called out to the girl who turned around and looked at Eripon relieved.
“Yes, I am actually. Do you happen to know where the acrobatics club is?” The girl asked feeling embarrassed to have to ask her senpai for directions.
“Actually, yes I do. I happen to be heading there myself. You can follow me if you want.” Erina said with a smile.
“Really? Thank you so much!” The girl said in perfect English suddenly surprising Eripon and confusing her.
The girl noticed Eripon’s face and realized that she spoke in English. “Sorry, thank you for helping me. My name is Nonaka Miki. I’m a first-year.”
“It’s okay your English was so good it just surprised me is all. Anyway, I’m Ikuta Erina and a second year.” Eripon said trying to make the girl feel better.
“I didn’t mean to surprise you, Ikuta-senpai,” Miki said with an apologetic smile.
“It’s okay. So, Miki-chan, are you interested in joining acrobatics?” The older girl asked as they walked down the hall toward the gym.
“Yes actually! When I found out there was a club for it here, I just knew I had to join.” Miki said with a bright smile.
“Well, I’m glad you’re going to join us this year,” Erina said as the two of them arrived at the gym.
Eripon opened the door and saw everyone was already in the gym waiting for her. Before anyone could say anything Eripon decided to speak.
“Sorry, I’m late I ran into someone interested in joining the club,” Eripon said motioning toward Miki.
Shinoda-sensei looked at the girl and then to Eripon and sighed. “I guess I could let you off the hook for being late this time but don’t make it a habit, Ikuta. It wouldn’t be good for the star member to always be late.”
“Yes, ma’am!” Erina said before grabbing Miki’s hand. “You can stick by me during the meeting if you want.”
“That sounds good to me, Ikuta-senpai,” Nonaka said nodding with a smile.
Everyone introduced themselves and they discussed the plan for the year and how to get more new members. Eripon was asked to show off her skill to the newest member of the club.
The meeting went fast and was over before everyone knew it. Eripon decided to talk to Miki afterward.
“I hope it was what you expected, Nonaka-chan. Did you have fun?” Erina asked the new member.
“Yes, it was! I can’t wait to do more.” Miki said smiling. The two left the gym and began walking back to the locker room so Erina could change.
“Well, it’s good to have you join the club. I’ll see you later and remember we meet every week on Monday and Wednesday. It was nice meeting you, Nonaka-chan.” Erina said before waving bye to Miki as they went their separate ways and Eripon got changed back into her school uniform and began heading home.
As Erina was leaving she caught sight of Ayumi’s back and saw her talking to and walking with her friends. Eripon usually walked home by herself while listening to her music since her house was in the opposite direction of all her friends.
Not wanting to disturb Ayumi and her friends Eripon put on her headphones and started listening to her music getting lost in her own world.
Ayumi noticed Erina passing by the group and wanted to approach the taller girl but suddenly she felt self-conscious and worried about bothering her crush.
“Why don’t you just go up to her?’ Duu asked nudging Ayumi.
“I can’t just go up to her. She has headphones in, and I don’t want to bother her.” Ayumi said while staring longingly at her crush.
“I’m sure she won’t mind. Besides, how do you plan to ask out Ikuta-san if you can’t even ask her to walk with you?” Maa-chan said smiling at Ayumi.
Ayumi stood there and was about to comment back when suddenly Riho’s words popped into her head.
‘Well let’s just say you’re not the only one after Eripon, Ayumi-chan.’ Those words along with Maa-chan’s ignited a flame in Ayumi’s heart.
“You guys are right I should go talk to her. Let’s go together.” Ayumi said with a smile.
Ayumi begins walking up to Eripon while the others stand there for a moment.
“I guess you said something right, Maa-chan,” Haruna said looking at the younger girl.
“That’s Maa-chan for you, our genius.” Duu said as she smiled and patted Maa-chan’s head who pouted at the taller girl.
Haruna looked at the two for a moment and smiled knowing how happy they were around each other. “We better follow Ayumi-chan before we lose her,” Haruna said smiling at the younger two.
The three girls followed after Ayumi who was almost to Eripon. “Sorry, we got caught up back there on something.” Kudo apologized with a smile when they caught up to Ayumi right before she got to Eripon.
“Don’t worry about it. Well, it’s now or never.” Ayumi said before going up and tapping on Erina’s shoulder.
Eripon jumped a little at the touch and turned around only to see her crush along with Ayumi’s three friends. She quickly fumbled to take the headphones off and blushed.
“Hey Ayumi-chan, is there something you were wanting?” Eripon asked smiling ignoring her red cheeks.
“Sorry I didn’t mean to scare you. I was just wondering if you wanted to walk home together with us?” Ayumi asked with a shy smile to her crush.
“Don’t worry you didn’t scare me just surprised me. I would love to join you guys.” Ikuta said calmly gaining her composure back and smiling.
Ayumi grabbed Erina’s hand and began walking back to the other three. “Come on let’s go then,” Ayumi said looking forward.
Eripon turned bright red again and looked down at the hand Ayumi was holding as they walked.
‘Oh my god! Ayumi-chan is holding my hand! Okay, calm down Erina act cool she doesn’t know how you feel. Her hands are so soft and small though. I wonder what it would be like to hold her. Oh no, I can feel my face getting red all over again. I have to stop it before her, and her friends notice.’ Eripon’s mind was racing as well as her heart.
Before Erina could get herself to stop blushing, she and Ayumi had made it back to Ayumi’s friends.
“Whoa! Your face is super red, Ikuta-san. What did you do, Ayumin?” Maa-chan said going up and poking Eripon face.
Ayumi swatted Maa-chan's hand away from Eripon's face. “Maa-chan, stop poking Ikuta-san. Sorry that she's such a pain.” Ayumi apologized looking at Erina who was still really red.
“Oh no, she's fine. I’m just really happy I get to spend time with you and your friends, Ayumi-chan.” Eripon said with a soft look in her eyes before she glanced down at her and Ayumi’s hands smiling.
The others, including Ayumi, looked down at where Erina was looking and saw the two holding hands. Ayumi turned bright red and dropped the other girl’s hand.
“I’m sorry, I had no idea I was still holding your hand,” Ayumi said apologizing while her friends giggled at her in the background.
“Don’t apologize it was nice holding your hand,” Erina said with a smile that caused Ayumi to blush.
The two stared at each other for a few seconds before Duu decided to say something rolling her eyes. “Hey, I know you two are having fun but we need to get going before we miss the train.”
The two girls blushed before agreeing and the group of five made their way to the train. They chatted about school and the homework.
When they arrived at the train station, Haruna said bye to the group and continued on her own while the others had to wait for their train.
“Oh! Look the train is here, let’s go before we miss it.” Ayumi said getting up from where the four girls were sitting.
They all got on the train which was so packed they had to squeeze in together.
“So which stop is yours, Ikuta-chan?” Ayumi asked once they were comfy.
“I get off at the third stop. What about you, Ayumi-chan?” Eripon said smiling at her crush and looking at Maa-chan and Duu chat about something that made Duu blush.
“Duu and I get off at the second stop while Maa-chan should be getting off here soon,” Ayumi said just as the train rolled to a stop.
“Well looks like you have to head out Maa-chan. Remember to text me when you get home.” Duu said as she waved bye to Maa-chan who smiled and waved back as the doors to the train closed and the train started to move again.
“Aww, so cute. Why don’t you just ask her out already?” Ayumi teased her friend who blushed and nudged the smaller girl who just chuckled as she slightly lost balance.
When Eripon noticed she instinctually put her arm around Ayumi’s shoulder and steadied her. “Careful Ayumi-chan, you wouldn’t want to hurt that pretty face of yours.” She said with a smile and a wink.
Eripon hoped she came off as cool since inside she was freaking out over holding Ayumi. Little did she know Ayumi was freaking just as much at being held by Erina.
“Thank you, Ikuta-san,” Ayumi said looking up at the taller girl while hoping her face wasn’t too red.
Since the two girls were in their own world as they looked at each other and the train was approaching the next stop Duu thought this would be the perfect time to take a quick picture and sent it to the others.
Duu sighed irritated at herself for making Maa-chan upset with her. She looked up to see Eripon let go of Ayumi slowly while making sure the girl was steady on her feet. Duu chuckled a little from seeing how red the two girls were. Duu cleared her throat and chuckled when the two girls jumped a little.
“Good thing you two separated since our stop will be coming up shortly.” Duu said with a smirk on her face.
Ayumi frowned a little at the thought of having to get off the train soon. Seeing this Erina put a hand on the girl’s shoulder.
“Don’t worry we can ride the train together tomorrow. Here we can exchange numbers if you want Ayumi-chan.” Eripon said as she held up her phone.
“That would be great, Ikuta-chan! Why don’t you get Duu’s number too?” Ayumi said motioning to Duu who smiled in return.
“Okay! Feel free to message me whenever you want. The same goes for you too, Kudo-chan.” Eripon smiled at the two girls.
After they exchanged numbers the train slowed to a stop. “Well, I guess we got to go. I’ll see you guys tomorrow!” Erina said waving bye with a smile as the two girls got off and the train started again.
Eripon couldn’t believe she actually got Ayumi’s number and got to spend time with her and all this was on the first day of school. She couldn’t wait to see Ayumi again tomorrow.
