Post by: SomethingWild on January 23, 2011, 03:49:24 PM: It would be weird to see the show without Yuko. She basically carried the first season. Based on that, I'd say she's bound to be back. On the other hand, maybe she'll focus on a new dorama/activity and just have a small appearance in some flash backs or something.

Either way, I'm sure that this will be the big Jurina show.

Post by: mixedmedia on January 24, 2011, 01:17:51 AM: I hope Jurina is only a minor one episode character b/c there were so many more interesting characters. Hope Nachu isn't as prominent either b/c she got annoying. Part of me hopes it's a prequel series showing what happened before Majisuka 1 but that's probably not likely so Yuko and Takamina will be stuck to having flashback scenes.

As long as Gekikara, Kabuki Sisters, Team Hormone and Rappapa are back, I'll definitely check it out. Hopefully Yabakune doesn't come back (Amina and Yukarin were the only good thing about them).

Some new rivals would be nice as well. Maybe Yokoyama, Yuka and Chikarina perhaps?

This means a whole 'years' worth of new girls to add. Plus any transfers.

- All 3rd years from Season 1 have graduated (meaning Rappappa + Choukoku)
- There will be a new group that will try to become the top of Majisuka Gakuen
- Yabakune will also be on the move...

I wasn't sure about the song the first time I heard it, but now I'm digging it. Woulda been lame if they had re-used or copied Majisuka. At any rate, the new intro video is ridiculously awesome.

I've not written about MG2 on the forum at all. Mostly cause I didn't want to whine once a week. Although it sounds like others here weren't too thrilled with it, either. :nervous

So, overall, I'd say I was entertained by the individual episodes, but whenever I think about the series as a whole, where the main story went and all that, I'm more than disappointed at the lack of direction, almost annoyed by the so-called character development, and banging my head against the wall at the Maeda story's finish.

The characters went in all sorts of senseless directions. The teachers of the school finally decided to just fuck off except for when the cops show up. I don't really blame them though. Maeda, who spent an entire season getting over being an emo is now an emo all over again eating flowers and beating up random bad guys cause that's real smart. After promising to protect Majijo, she... runs off. WHAT? And then, in her grand return, she and the others just come to a magic revelation, nothing is settled, she makes a cryptic declaration to Center saying the "top is yours" then she's off to jail. Nice and lazy there. Team Hormone goes from a somewhat weak but respected nonetheless team in Majijo during season 1 to slapstick fodder in season 2. Although I'm always happy to stare at Yokoyama Yui, she just magically appeared out of nowhere to fill in Nachu's spot. The Nezumi vs. Center stuff would have been a good twist if it weren't for the horribly dry, repetitive nature of it. Seriously, no one caught on to Nezumi's antics until the next to last episode? Nezumi's right, they are a bunch of morons. :lol: And then her sudden change of heart... All that building up, all that making the audience abhor her just for her to randomly decide Jurina's a bud and everything's a-okay. Jurina's portrayal of center was also a bit mediocre at times. A little flat. Also, "random scar lol", never seen that plot point before. :bleed eyes: And then you had Gekikara who suddenly turned into this deep character only to get stabbed by a batshit Kimoto Kanon for no good reason. I also don't approve of the Oshima sisters out of nowhere and officer Takamina. To me it just shits on the 1st season that much more to see them on screen. And then all of the other random characters from season 1 become even more random and make appearances to short they don't even mean much.

The main arc is also way too simple. Nezumi makes a huge mess to satisfy her narcissism. That's... pretty much it. I really think they could have made it so much cooler. Used SKE/NMB as girls from enemy schools, fleshed out Nezumi's background and scheme a bit more, focused in on just a few elements instead of making it such a cluster fuck.

Maybe I'm just, pardon the pun, taking the story and characters of this nutty show too maji, but to me a lot of it just shat on season 1 a bit too much. I wasn't expecting the Schindler's List of yankii high school girl doramas, but it could have been better. Much better. However, I also gotta admit that I was mostly entertained by the series. I guess that's the most important thing. :lol: Maybe it's kinda like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. If you just watch it at face value, it's fun, but if you start trying to analyze it, it's a bit mushy on the story.

Should there be a season 3 announcement, I don't know if I'll look forward to it or not. I think I'd be cautiously optimistic. At this point they've deluded the show enough that it could either get a pretty fresh start, or be another mess. Try something else, AKB. I understand that playing the 2010 card is working great for you right now, but I don't know if we'll buy this playlist a third go. :lol:

Maeda getting high on eating flowers and looking for someone who is powerful than her seemed :smhid. She should have fought Sado if that's what she wanted since they are pretty much equal in terms of strength based on how they fought in season 1. The lack of remembering her friend Minami after Yuko died made me think that if another friend of hers died again she would forget the previous one that died and go emo for her latest dead friend. Maeda is such a good friend if that is the case. :smhid Yui's character also disappoints me. I thought she was some type of genius with that calm aura of hers that she would do some plot that might help Majisuka's arising problem. Instead she just relied on Maeda. I enjoyed some Gekikara moments although she did turn soft. And the last episode was so good when the four queens came back. Shibuya crying killed it though. I like MG1 better than MG2. Wonder how the movie would turn out though.

So, I loved this season in so many more ways than the first one. Let me start with Daruma. Yeah, she wasn't there. Big plus.

In Majisuka Gakuen (1) we have this episodic show where things happen and at the end of the episodes Maeda is set to fight someone. That's basically the setup for the entire show. We have tons of characters, but we pretty much spend the most of our time with Maeda and Daruma + whatever character is up for a beat up in that specific episode. What I thought worked better with a large cast as this was, in the second season when there really wasn't a main character. Some episodes was spent with Center and Nezumi, some focused more on Gekikara, some on Sae, heck even one with Minegishi. The focus was spread out and more characters got their time to shine, but more importantly time to develop which leads me into..

Story and Characters. So, I found that in Majisuka Gakuen 2 our characters got more development all around. Nezumi wasn't just scheming because it was in the script but she.. Spoiler talk: was damaged due to being the neglected child of some rich dude. Nobody cared about her so she wanted to win at any cost, to take the top for herself not giving a damn about who she backstabbed to get there.

The same goes for Gekikara. A little. She was this complete psycho in season 1, but here she shows that she is also human. Spoiler Talk: Like the scene after she is stabbed where she is lying in the hospital explaining that before she felt she could fight these yankee fights to the death, but now being so close to actually dying she realized she was scared of it.

The story itself felt abit more fresh with the internal struggle of MajiJo and the fact that rappapa and Maeda didn't lead the school as good as the graduated ladies did I thought was very interesting. The dialogue was alot better written, and they actually spent alot of the time talking. Which I like.

Maeda story was abit weird I admit, but you kinda got it at the end when.. Spoiler Talk: When she explained how Yuko basically asked her to find the meaning of life, I guess she just started wondering what the point of everything was and blah blah. I admit it wasn't to well developed, but it was fine, it was pretty periferal anyways.

I'm not going to go on too much more. But I really loved season 2. The overall tone was darker, the fight scenes were better choreographed, the characters got more depth, their conversations was better written and the story got more interesting. Now, these shows are campy as hell, you basically got to watch them with the same mindset as an anime, at least that was what I did. I also loved the first season, just for the record, but I just felt that Majisuka Gakuen 2 took everything from season 1 and improved on it. Now it did have some faults, even in my eyes. Like the Maeda story could have been more fleshed out, the "twins" was a pretty terrible idea and Team Fondue wasn't needed at all.

At last I'll just leave a comment on the brilliant ending:
Spoiler Talk: I really loved the way through the whole show they build up this fight between Shibuya and Maeda. When they finally meet face to face in the end and when Shibuya sees how all her former friends at Majisuka just gather around her sworn rival. The realization she gets like, "Damn it, there is no way I'll win" was just brilliant. Because of course, you know, she would never win. That was great

Relax your weapons Acchan oshi's, I'm one of you guys.

Frankly the only thing I don't like about MG2 was the fact that Acchan had too little screentime and like, she's eating flower petals for, what, 9 episodes? Well, her character development was shown though. She smiled more than she did in the first season. Plus I'm getting the vibe that her chara's close with Mukuchi, was it? Yeah, that.
