I watched the last five holes last night. I didn't remember how interesring and exciting game golf can be.

I thought Tiger already won after his magnificient chip on 16th hole, but then he made two bogeys in a row. Well, he won after all, even though I cheered for DiMarco, it's better when newbies win old pros.

Yeah and Phil Mickelson putting on the green jacket for Tiger was the funniest pic of the year.

Two enemies faking it. Reminds me of Shaq and Kobe. Or Rika and Aya.

Well, they DID say that this was the last time he'd be taking part in THIS particular event.  Nicklaus mostly does the Seniors tour.  He usually only does regular PGA stuff now when it's one of the big events.  Wouldn't be surprised if a full-on retirement is forthcoming.

Tiger Woods was outraged Wednesday at an Irish magazine and a tabloid that linked photos of his wife to various pornography sites, and his agent was studying the merits of a lawsuit.

"My wife, yes, she has been a model prior, and she did do some bikini photos," Woods said. "But to link her to porn Web sites and such is unacceptable, and I do not accept that at all. Neither does our team." (http://sports.yahoo.com/golf/pga/news?slug=ap-rydercup-woods-tabloids&prov=ap&type=lgns)

Byron Nelson, who had the greatest year in the history of professional golf when he won 18 tournaments in 1945, including a record 11 in a row, died Tuesday. He was 94.

His death was confirmed by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office. No cause of death was listed on its Web site.
Known as Lord Byron for his elegant swing and gentle manner, Nelson won 31 of 54 tournaments in 1944-45. Then, at age 34, he retired after the 1946 season to spend more time on his Texas ranch.

"When I was playing regularly, I had a goal," Nelson recalled years later. "I could see the prize money going into the ranch, buying a tractor, or a cow. It gave me incentive."

That incentive pushed Nelson to become one of the best players of his era. He won the Masters in 1937 and '42, the U.S. Open in 1939 and the PGA Championship in 1940 and '45.

He also finished second once in the U.S. Open, twice in the Masters and three times in the PGA. Nelson played in British Open only twice, finishing fifth in 1937.

Nelson's long, fluid swing is considered the model of the modern way to strike a golf ball and his kind, caring style with fans and competitors made him one of the most well-liked people in sports.

"I don't know very much," Nelson said in a 1997 interview with The Associated Press. "I know a little bit about golf. I know how to make a stew. And I know how to be a decent man."

His second British Open was in 1955, when he was no longer a serious competitor, although he did win the French Open on that trip for his last professional victory. His prize money, however, was not enough to pay the hotel bill.

"I had to put up another $200," he told the AP with a huge smile.

Nelson was born Feb. 4, 1912, on the family farm and started in golf in 1922 as a caddie at Glen Garden Country Club in Fort Worth. One year, he won the caddies' championship, defeating Ben Hogan in a playoff.

Woods set to have season-ending knee surgery

Tiger Woods has decided to have surgery on his left knee, which will end his 2008 season.

Woods said on his Web site that he will have surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament. He also wrote that he needs time to rehabilitate a double stress fracture of his left tibia, which he said was discovered just before the Memorial Tournament in late May.

And he revealed that he originally ruptured the ACL in 2007 while running at his home in Orlando after the British Open. He said he decided not to have surgery at that point, and he went on to win five of the next six events he entered (through his Target World Challenge in December). Even though he's not playing, Tiger will still be at the top of everyone's mind

Well, if we're not going to see Tiger Woods for the remainder of the year, at least he left us with a strong impression. After suffering through 91 holes to win the U.S. Open with a torn ACL in his left knee and a double stress fracture in his tibia, Woods announced Wednesday that he won't tee it up competitively again until the 2009 season.

Consider it the ultimate Costanza moment. Dude went out on a high note.

What we're left with is a second half of the season devoid of the game's top-ranked player. What are we missing? Plenty. Here are some story lines we won't be paying attention to -- and some that are still very much alive. (http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/columns/story?columnist=sobel_jason&id=3451905)

Euro captain Faldo: U.S. could rally at Ryder Cup without Tiger

LONDON -- European captain Nick Faldo said Friday that an American team without Tiger Woods in the Ryder Cup could be just as dangerous if it uses his absence as motivation.

"On the one side, it could be a loss," Faldo told The Press Association. "But on the other, they know that they don't have the option to bank on Tiger this year, and I'm sure they'll all pull together because of that."

Europe has defeated the United States the last three times, including nine-point margins in 2004 and 2006. The Ryder Cup will be played Sept. 19-21 at Valhalla.

Woods, who said Wednesday he will have season-ending surgery on his left knee, has not missed a match since he first played in the Ryder Cup in 1997 at Valderrama. He has a 10-13-2 record, including 3-1-1 in singles. (http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=3454505)

Miller apologizes in NBC statement for comments on Mediate

NEW YORK -- NBC Sports golf analyst Johnny Miller apologized for his description of U.S. Open runner-up Rocco Mediate , saying the comments had "absolutely nothing to do with his ethnicity."

Mediate, a 45-year-old Pennsylvanian of Italian heritage, held a one-stroke lead over Tiger Woods during the fourth round Sunday. Miller said Mediate "looks like the guy who cleans Tiger's swimming pool." He also said, "Guys with the name 'Rocco' don't get on the trophy, do they?"

"I apologize to anyone who was offended by my remarks," Miller said in a statement Friday through NBC. "My intention was to convey my affection and admiration for Rocco's everyman qualities and had absolutely nothing to do with his ethnicity. I chose my words poorly and in the future will be more careful."

Woods beat Mediate in a playoff that lasted 19 holes for his third U.S. Open title.

Sunday's fourth round on NBC drew a 7.5 national rating and 17 share. It was the highest rating for a U.S. Open since 2002 and a 17 percent increase over the 6.4 last year.

The first two hours of Monday's playoff drew the highest cable rating ever for golf with a 4.2 on ESPN. The rating is the percentage watching a program among homes with televisions, and the share is the percentage tuned into the broadcast among those households with TVs on at the time.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Three strokes behind with six holes to play in the Wegmans LPGA, Eun-Hee Ji found a way to get around Norwegian star Suzann Pettersen.

"I thought if I chase her like this, Suzann would feel pressure," the South Korean said after shooting a 5-under 67 to beat Pettersen by two strokes at the tricky Locust Hill course with a 16-under 272 total.

A 22-year-old in her second year on the tour, Ji won her first LPGA Tour title. Her previous best was a second-place finish behind Pettersen in South Korea in October in the Kolon Championship. (http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=3456234)

Woods undergoes reconstructive surgery on left knee

Tiger Woods had reconstructive surgery on his left knee Tuesday in Utah to repair a torn ligament, and doctors said it was "highly unlikely" there would be any long-term effects.

It was the second time in 10 weeks Woods had surgery on his knee, this time on his anterior cruciate ligament.

"We were confident going into this surgery, and I am pleased with the results," Dr. Thomas D. Rosenberg said Tuesday in a statement released by IMG, Woods' management company. (http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=3459403)

Not to get all Mars and Venus on you, but there are some pretty major differences between the men's and women's games at the most elite professional levels.

And not just the obvious ones, either. Yes, the men hit the ball farther and get paid more. And sure, the women compete on shorter courses and show a little more leg. (http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/columns/story?columnist=sobel_jason&id=3465955)

BETHESDA, Md. -- In the 237 times Charles Howell III has teed it up on the PGA Tour, he never had a round end like today at the AT&T National. After signing for an even-par 70, he was handed a pink slip.

Howell was among the first players chosen for testing under the tour's Anti-Doping Program that went into effect this week.

The golfer from Augusta, Georgia, left the scoring area at about 5:45 p.m. and came back out to the putting green 40 minutes later. He was given a pink piece of paper showing that his sample was valid.

Howell said once he was sufficiently hydrated -- he had just spent nearly five hours at Congressional in temperatures in the low 90s -- it took about eight minutes.

Davis Love III of Sea Island, Georgia, also was tested, and Howell said Love had to go back downstairs to his locker to get his identification. The tour does not disclose who gets tested, although Howell figured he was not the first.

The National Center for Drug Free Sport, which administers the anti-doping program, is to notify the tour's administrator when the results have been analyzed.

Howell said earlier in the week he was tested every year when he played at Oklahoma State and doesn't expect any surprises in golf.

Ever since he "marion baber'd" some Euro Ian Poulter at the Ryder Cup to secure the US a win, been giving mad respects to US Golfer:
Anthony Kim

Dude has Swag. Heard him on The Jim Rome Show. When asked about his drunkeness last year while on tour he goes: "I was embarassing my family, I made stupid mistakes." Owns it. Makes up for it. He's not afraid, he will not be intimidated.

Look for him to be a huge star.

It's really been a year of the underdog for Major winners. Y.E. Yang is the first Asian player to win a major championship so kudos to him.
