Chapter 49: The Future Sure Holds A Lot Of Fun Times
Years later….
Hikaru’s POV
“Rin, c’mon!” I called to my twin sister as she ran down the hill.
“Gomen, I saw a butterfly.”
“We gotta hurry or we won’t get home in time. I don’t want Mama and Papa to worry about us.”
“Yes, I know~”
It’s weird. Growing up, I thought that Rin would be as responsible as Mama and Papa, but I guess being the younger twin triggered some rebellious switch inside her to turn on.
“Let’s go, hurry!”
“Don’t worry, Hikaru~”
“But we don’t want someone to find us. What if something happens and--?”
“We’ll be ready.”
It’s always been like this. She got Papa’s confidence. I got Mama’s kindness. We’re polar opposites, just like them.
“Nee, Hikaru… Where do you think uncle Yuki and aunt Mayu are right now?”
“Probably out on a date.”
“You mean like a playdate?”
“No, not at all...”
“Eh? What do you mean?”
“Nevermind! Come on.”
We kept on hurriedly trying to get home, worried that our parents are waiting. Rin forced me to stop a few times for certain reasons.
Whether she got distracted or would talk about the others, I listened.
First, there was Sashihara-kun. I heard from Rin that he was now married to Kitahara-san and were currently on their honeymoon to Cyprus.
Then, the Twin Towers. They’re married and run a shop together, all lovey-dovey. I think Sae hinted on having kids once, but I didn’t let Rin hear. She’s still too young to get into that stuff.
Well, I’m pretty young, too, but still mature…
Next was Milky and Sayu-nii. They’re living in Osaka along with Jonishi-san and the others and are currently a happy couple. I think I’ve heard someone say that Milky is pregnant but I don’t want to get into the details…
And Paru-san and Yokoyama-kun are engaged. We actually got an invitation to the wedding.
Finally, aunt Mayu and uncle Yuki. Oto-san says they’re living in Kagoshima, where uncle Yuki lived as a kid our age. They have a child about our age that we often meet when we go visit them.
“Hurry up, Rin~”
“Hai~”
I held her hand as we ran down the street, the dark of night surrounding us with only the lantern in my hand as the source of light.
As we ran down the street, I saw sudden flashbacks come into my brain of all the things that happened in the short childhood I’ve lived. From meeting uncle Yuki and aunt Mayu for the first time to playing with their child…
“We’re almost there!”
We finally reached the door to what seemed like a grand house.
“Finally, home...”
I grabbed the door knob and twisted it, opening it and stepping inside.
“Tadaima~” We both harmonized.
“Hey, you two~” Mama came up and hugged us, kissing our foreheads. “You made it.”
“Where’s Papa?”
“Right here!” Papa walked in and ran up to Mama’s side.
“Papa!” Rin was the first one to grab him and hug him around his neck.
“Hey, how’s my little girl?”
“Good!”
“And how’s my little soldier?” Mama said as she patted my head.
“I’m fine~”
“You guys stayed for a long time didn’t you? Why were you running late?”
“Well...”
“We needed to get something.”
“What?”
Rin and I looked at each other and I pulled out a small box from my pocket.
“Here,” I said as I handed it to them. “It’s been 13 years since you both had us and then got married, right? So, this is for you.”
“Eh? You both didn’t have to...”
“It’s OK. Go on.”
“Honestly, though, you guys deserve it!”
“Thank you so much, you two.”
“Open it! Open it!”
“Alright.” The two of them opened the box together and revealed a golden locket. Inside it was a picture of all of us together.
“Oh, it’s beautiful.”
“Thank you, both of you.”
I then heard the telephone ring in the distance, wondering who it was whilst Papa excused himself to answer it.
“Hello?”
“Oh, Jun! Just the person I was looking for!”
“Yuki?”
“Yep, it’s me!”
“How’ve you been?”
“Good. How’s everyone there?”
“Oh, we’re good. So, what’d you call me for?”
“I.. Well not me, Mayu wanted for all of you guys to come over, as like a reunion.”
“Maji?!”
“No go?”
“No! I mean, yes. That’d be great! Let’s do it!”
“You had me worried for a sec, I just called Sayu and Miyuki.”
“So...”
“What?”
“How’s the, uh… you know what?”
“Oh… ‘That’?”
“Yeah~”
“Do we really have to discuss now? Even when we’ve finally being able to reunite with everyone after 12 years.”
“I know. Don’t worry. I’ll tell them soon.”
“Good. See you then.”
“Bye.”
Papa came back in and smiled.
“Who was it?”
“That was uncle Yuki.”
“Yuki-kun? What did he want?”
“It’s about the others. We’re having a reunion.”
