MY TOP 5 HIKKI SONGS (no particular order, subject to change as I continue to explore her work more):
"Exodus" - One of the first songs of hers I got into, anchored by a strong Timbaland beat and an other-worldly atmosphere befitting the song's theme. I've forever associated it with travelling due to both the actual lyrics and sound and having discovered it right before the summer of '05 when I went to SoCal and Disneyland twice within two months.
"Keep Tryin' - Again with the other-worldly atmosphere (actually one of the main things I love about her music), with a great sense of groove going through the whole song. Trippy/funny video.
"Distance"/"Final Distance" - I'm considering them one song, dammit!
The ballad version is so emotional and powerful, I once tried making myself cry by listening to it while watching the post-sunset twilight over the ocean near the LA airport.
Also my cousins have associated it with me for karaoke nights. Original version is so happy, upbeat and calming; crazy contrast for what is essentially the same song.
"This One (Crying Like a Child)" - Another emotionally powerful track, mainly due to her vocals and beat...the lyrics are actually kinda corny ("and the crowd is going wi-i-ild!").
"Uso Mitai na I love You" - Funky hard rock sound! An aggressive Hikki is an awesome Hikki. The original basis for the "Simple and Clean" chorus.
