That's awesome! Since Mayuyu's an anime otaku, it's a good move to involve fanartists in her solo releases. But I hope they keep it to just one type of her single like what they did for Hikaru Monotachi because I still want more real Mayuyu on the covers A compilation booklet of the better entries would be fantastic!

Anyway, I'm stoked to see which musical direction this new single will take. She surprised us by going electropop previously (which turned out really well) so will she continue with that or return to normal idol pop or attempt something new? As I said previously, Mayuyu is a versatile performer so I do hope that she'll try something new instead of fixing her style so early in her solo career. She's still hugely popular so she can afford to experiment

This contest is to celebrate the launch of Watanabe Mayu’s 4th single which has been decided to release on July, 2013. The winning work will be used as the CD cover for the Limited Edition, and will also be published in the illustration book included in the limited edition.

Let's take a look at some of the entries so far! It has only been 5 days since the contest started and we already have 11 pages worth of entries. Of course, a lot of the designs look amateurish. Some of the artists have good and unique concepts; unfortunately, their drawing skills fall short of a professional look and aren't befitting of a CD cover art.

Here's my current pick for No.1!



The artist's rendition of Mayuyu resembles her (very important!) and doesn't look overly cutesy which is a good thing as she is at the stage of, quoting Britney Spears, not a girl, not yet a woman. The costume design stands out with its originality (check out the horses and carriage hanging off her cage-like skirt). The only thing I don't really like is the brown border in the background because the background is already busy enough with the numerous balloons. Adding the border makes the overall design look rather overwhelming and takes attention away from Mayuyu. It'll be more pleasing on the eye with a simpler frame or perhaps even without one. Aside from that, everything is great and this entry also has the most number of bookmarks (stars) at 360.

My No.2



Really gorgeous and surreal gradation of colours there. Kind of feels like an amusement park in outer space The design is really comfortable to look at and grows on me. I particularly like how Mayuyu and the horse are angled for a more dynamic feel. The only reason this lost to my No.1 choice is that Mayuyu doesn't look Mayuyu. I'm just not getting the Mayu vibes from the face which is a pity because I really love the overall design.

My picks.

For me these two are either No.1 or No.2 picks. The first one is probably my personal most favorite as I like everything about it, especially the whole idea, but the face could be a wee bit more similar to Mayu's real face. The second one has everything for the cover of Mayu's single and actually those brown frames do not bug me. I find it enjoyable and fitting for a cover.

Like seigus-san said, it might not resemble Mayu's face but overall it is a nice cover, especially how nicely objects are angled in it. I like it, and it's probably my No.3 pick.

This one is cute as hell!!! I find it really adorable and the girl resembles Mayu somewhat, maybe not really but one can see it is her a wee bit, like an anime version of her or something. My No.4 pick.

I love the details that were put into this one. And the colors seem nice. The mask, the hat, different stockings on each leg, the carousel skirt; it all gives a nice feel. Though sadly the girl does not resemble Mayu that much, I've seen worse 'this-does-not-resemble-her-at-all' covers, so this one is really nice. My No.5 pick.

Others worth to mention in no particular order:

This cover...I chose it because it's really cute and also the chibi Mayu looks more alike to the real one than in most of the covers out there. It's cute, just maybe Alpaca would have been better instead of the bear?

This might not be fitted for the cover of Mayu's single but I chose it as the chibi looks cute and has similarities to the real life Mayu. Somehow I think Mayu would squeal over this and say it's cute but I doubt this is      worth to be a cover.

I chose this one because of its simplicity. It somehow drew me in, the light way this was drawn and also, this probably is the least resembling the theme of the covers I picked but I    found  it capturing and I        couldn't leave  this out of my list.

I was contemplating a lot if I should list it here or not. I'm torn between two most important things in this picture so I posted    here so to mention them. One, I like some of the details in it, like the  horses, the carousel, the balloons and Mayu's getup, but I dislike the fact that the background is outshining Mayu and that Mayu's   face is nowhere near the real her. Though props for a  nice idea. Ah, lovely balloons...

The face is not Mayu we know but I like how she is implemented here on the carousel with the bunny next to her. I like the fact she's riding an alpaca.

[SomethingWild]

First of all, in my opinion it's impossible to design a cd cover without having heard the song. They have to match somehow.
Secondly, I'm impressed by the quality of the submissions so far. A lot of very cool designs for sure.

The Creepy

This is awesome. It reminds me of the girl from ICO as well as the trademark Tim Burton features.

Title is ラッパ練習中 (Rappa Renshuuchuu) [Currently Practicing Trumpet]

It's going to be the song for her edition of the new variety [Real Dasshutsu Game] and she's the first idol to get a main character in it. The show is an interactive viewer experience and everyone watching gets to play it live (with their remote d buttons) to change the storyline of the show! Her episode is called "Save Mayuyu from the Prison Amusement Park!." The song will be the theme of the episode. She's a mahou shoujo in it.

It's actually an attraction and it'll be up for 2 months at Tokyo Dome City, you'll have to go there to play it. I don't know if they'll air it on TV after it's done, but they did the old ones so probably!
