Post by: Ping on May 11, 2005, 08:13:28 AM
I saw this. It was a great fight, I really thought he was gonna get KO's after the 2nd time he went down. I knew that he was just catching his breath the 2nd time, but it still didn't look too good. It was a great finish though.

Bout time we had a boxing thread so just renamed a thread not made by me or Thimas :P

How about the past weekends match of Shane Mosley vs Fernando Vargas? Oops.

Vargas talked shit about Mosley saying it'd be "Th-th-that's All, Folks" but got TKO'd instead!! He's funny, and wonder what Oscar De La Hoya has to say about this fight, whom Vargas once called "Ricky Martin"

last saturday's welterweight bout between floyd mayweather and zab judah had this crazy 10th round.  judah delivers a low blow and then a punch to the back of mayweather's head.  mayweather's uncle gets pissed and steps into the ring, hilarity ensues.

a clip of round 10 for those interested.

I read from the papers yesterday that there will be a Corrales vs. Castillo part 3. Castillo won the 2nd fight by knocking Corrales on the 4th but didn't get the title because he was a bit overweight, hence the rematch. Also, Corrales is saying that he lost because of that.

Also, Pacquiao will have a match in July vs. Larios here in the Phils. I think it's just a warm up match before his 3rd fight with Morales late this year.

Hopkins brought Tarver to school. Too bad it's going to Bernard's last match. He's one of the best fighters ever to set foot in the ring. He beat the best to be the best. Anyways, his career's been great.

Pacquiao won against Larios via UD. Didn't expect the fight to last 12 rounds but Larios went down twice. It was scary in round 3 where Larios caught Pacquiao and staggered him. Even if Pacquiao is overexpsoed in our country, he's still a great boxer. Next match is him vs. Morales in November.

Barrera vs. Juarez 2 tomorrow.

I really didn't like Juarez before because in one of the matches held in his hometown, he was against a Cuban Olympian boxer and it was obvious that the ref was on Juarez's side. His opponent was quite good but in every 3 of 10 punches he throws, the ref warns him for low blows until the warnings became point deductions. Halfway of the match Juarez was already leading with a lot of points even without landing puches. That was a really screwed up match. Umaga vs. some unknown jobber would have been more interesting.

But in his 1st match against Barrera, Juarez did land the more convincing blows and he should have won that. Boxing is quite a mystery. The only sure way you know the victory is your is when you put your opponent to sleep. Or if you paid the ref or judges good money. XD

Edit:
Barrera won via UD. He was the more well-conditioned boxer this time. Juarez couldn't even get close because of the jabs. He was forced out of his gameplan while Barrera stuck to his and sailed all the way to victory.

Been a while since people posted in here lately...

Anyway, Joe Calzaghe sure had a tough fight yesterday with Bika. You've got to say Bika can sure take his punches, even with Joe's flurry of combinations thrown at him. I was somewhat disappointed with the match simply becase I was secretly hoping for a Calzaghe v Lacy Version 2, but of course, it doesn't always live up to expectations.

Never saw the fight unfortunately cause of the time difference and having to pay for it, but unlucky for Hatton. Alright he's a Man City fan, but I won't hold that against him, he's a class fighter, one of the best from Britain (though not the best, that goes to Joe Calzaghe). Guess that's Lewis Hamilton winning BBC Sports Personality Of The Year Award then, what a joke.

But there was another big fight here in the UK as well. Upcoming prodigy and Silver medal award winning boxer Amir Khan fighting Graham Earl, a former world title contender. Khan's faced some weak opposition before, with fights only lasting the first few rounds, and Graham promised to give him a proper fight, did this go any different? Nope. In fact, the fight was all over at 1min and 12 secs when Khan knocked him to the canvas  No doubt Khan can throw punches faster than you can see them, and a great boxer, just please, please give him some stiff competition next time.

Saw the Hatton-Mayweather match, great fight! The undercard matches sucked! Peter Manfredo got beat, I seriously don't see much left for him, he's lost how many of his last matches?

The Hatton-Mayweather match was great though, Hatton came out beasting the first couple rounds, so aggressive that Mayweather couldn't setup his punches like usual although Hatton wasn't really hurting Mayweather as he wasn't landing a lot of his punches. As Hatton starts letting off and Mayweather just starts setting his punches up, he started hurting Hatton and got him good with two great combination flurries at the beginning and the end of round 8. Round 10 the KO. Hatton definitely brought out the best in Mayweather though and is a great fighter, lots of respect shown by Mayweather towards Hatton after the fight.

Looks like Mayweather is taking a looooong break though, they're saying 2008 off for sure and perhaps 2009!

He gave it his all, but lost to Margarito... Apparently that Margarito guy was a freaky machine man that wouldn't fall no matter what =O  He broke poor Cotto's nose and then Cotto's energy went down as he got tired, and Margarito resisted everything.

It was Cotto's first defeat. I heard that Margarito had been defeated before, but only by deliberation... he's never been knocked out  :O

Now there's rumors that Margarito's after-fight tests came out positive for steroids and he might lose the title O_o
Title: Re: Official Boxing Thread
Post by: Stryfe on July 29, 2008, 12:50:28 AM
Cotto/Margarito is already a good candidate for Boxing Fight of the Year... a true boxer/brawler classic.

I can only imagine what went through Cotto's mind as he realized Margarito was not even slowing down from his best shots. Seriously Cotto hit him with everything he got, massive power shots, and nothing happened...

Almost halfway through, it looked liked Cotto might be able to dance his way to victory, but then the tide turned, and Margarito slowly took over. Tijuana Tornado indeed.

And the steroid rumours are baseless speculation, the test results only arrive later this week.

I'm just thinking that the Pacman is a wee bit over his head with this one. He's jumping up two weight classes to get a massive payday and a very likely beating from the much bigger De La Hoya. But I'm still pumped and interested to see what'll happen. If Manny can pull off the upset, he'd solidify his p4p #1 standing for sure.

It was weird that Manny was not only the faster, but also the bigger fighter that night. Everyone assumed De La Hoya would come in with like a 15 pound weight advantage and just overpower Pacman.

Oscar has never been mauled like this before... hard to say if the fight ended up being a one-sided beating more because he is a shadow of the fighter he once was, or because Manny is just so damn good... perhaps both had an equal effect. But it was kind of sad to watch.

Ricky Hatton up next for Pacquiao, huh? Or maybe Mayweather Jr is finally running out of money...

Politics can wait - Pacquiao
(http://img396.imageshack.us/img396/9491/gen3yx5.jpg)
Boxing champion Manny Pacquiao would rather talk about his immediate plans to secure victory in his next bout even as he keeps his options open for another run at politics in the May 2010 elections.

“I think this is not the right time to talk about politics because there is no election yet. What we need right now is to focus on how we can help our government,” Pacquiao told The STAR. “There is a right time to discuss that matter.”

This was how Pacquiao responded to persistent offers for him to run for Congress anew, either in the second district of Quezon City or in South Cotabato where he lost last year.

Pressed if he would run again if there would be a clamor from his constituents, Pacquiao chuckled and said, “I don’t need to talk about politics right now because there is no election yet.”

In a recent interview with Reader’s Digest magazine, Pacquiao said that he still wants to become a congressman.

“I want to be a congressman. (The Filipino people) idolize me in boxing. I want them to idolize me in terms of public service. (I believe in) social accountability. I can change the system. I’m not like some politicians who can be corrupt. I have money and I am satisfied with what I have earned from bloody work like boxing. What I want to do is bring government money back to the poor people,” he told Reader’s Digest.

Pacquiao took time out from his busy schedule for a brief interview with The STAR, which was arranged by Hotel Sofitel where he proceeded to rest at the end of his day-long “hero’s welcome” parade around Metro Manila last Thursday.

He was treated to an overnight stay at the $3,000-a-night presidential suite at the Hotel Sofitel in Pasay City.

Now dubbed as the world’s best pound-for-pound boxer following his rout of Mexican-American boxer Oscar de la Hoya, Pacquiao has so far successfully dodged pro-administration ranks trying to convince him to make a return bout in Philippine politics.

Pacquiao is a card-bearing member of President Arroyo’s Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino (Kampi) party under whose banner he ran but lost his first congressional bid in the May 2007 elections.

Outgoing Quezon City Rep. Annie Susano from the pro-administration Lakas-CMD has publicly endorsed Pacquiao as a candidate for her congressional seat in the city’s second district while she plans to run for higher office in the next election.

“Kaya ayaw kong pag-usapan ang politics ngayon kasi hindi naman eleksyon bukas, hindi naman eleksyon sa makalawa. Siguro ang kailangan natin ay paano makatulong (I don’t want to talk aout politics because there’s no election tomorrow or the day after. What we need now is help) to unite the Filipino people, to support our government paano umunlad sa sarili natin at ating bansa (so that our people and country will progress),” he explained.

Pacquiao flew yesterday with his three children to his hometown of General Santos City where he would celebrate his 30th birthday on Dec. 17.

The boxer’s political mentor Environment Secretary Lito Atienza said his ward is preoccupied with his flourishing boxing career.

“There is no talk of politics yet for Manny and he agrees with me it’s all boxing for him at this time,” Atienza said.

Atienza said Pacquiao had learned his lesson when the boxing champ did not heed his advice not to seek public office and ran against a rival who comes from a clan of traditional politicians. Pacquiao lost to re-electionist Rep. Darlene Antonino of the first district of South Cotabato in May 2007.

Atienza pointed out though Pacquiao should have enough time to decide about his political plans by early 2010.

But for now, Pacquiao is psyching himself up for yet another prizefight being arranged possibly in May next year against British fighter Ricky Hatton.

Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer, expressed preference for his ward to fight Hatton next than to mix it up with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“Kahit sino sa akin humamon (whoever challenges me), I’m willing to fight them. Basta magkasundo lang sa negosasyon (as long as we agree on the negotiations),” Pacquiao said.

“I’m always at my peak in my career. In all my fights, I’m always trying my best to give a good fight,” he cited.

Pacquiao was visibly pleased with reports that he has joined the ranks of the pay-per-view multi-millionaire fighters. He broke the one million pay-per-view barrier for the first time in his Dream Match against De la Hoya in Las Vegas last Saturday.

“I’m very happy I gave another honor to our country. And I’m very happy that I make them happy even if there is crisis. But if you see all the people watching my fight, they look no problem in their lives (sic),” he said.

Too funny Oscar De La Hoya paid to attend the Affliction mixed martial arts card, that guy is just a joke now!

That was just bullshit. Larry Merchant and Jim Lampley act like little giddy kids with their mma hate. De La Hoya was at Affliction because Golden Boy was a sponsor of the event long before no-one was ever talking about Mosley/Margarito, and was expected to attend. Pity Max Kellerman wasn't around, he's the only one at the HBO broadcasts who talks sense and actually defends the sport that the grandpas only see as a threat.

Oh man, I wish I could watch the fight :(

I did see Froch v Taylor though (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/8013772.stm)

Fucking epic comeback for Froch! Well behind on the judges scorecards and in the 12th round with seconds to go, finds something in himself to completely pummel Taylor to a TKO. I mean, the ref even said:

Quote
"If there was 14 seconds left or one second left it made no difference, he was defenceless. I wanted him to be able to go home safely to his family"

Before, Manny said that he will have only three more fights before retiring... not so sure about that now since he's entering politics... again

we've guessed only two more fighters he'd be fighting: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (with some crazy drama from Mayweather Sr.) and Cotto for the championship

how many championships can satisfy this man?!

moving from one weight div to another... crazy, yo...

the new right hook was the big surprise for the Hatton fight... i wonder what Coach Roach will be setting up for the next fight...

Freddie Roach should be coach of the year... and that Mayweather Sr. should get some mad slapping... i watched that 24/7 HBO thing... and was like 'DAMN YOU!' ... after the fight he just put all the blame on Hatton XD what a coach...

I'm really glad Jimmy wasn't a dick to him. He could tell that Pac's english isn't great, he's so used to giving the same old boxing answers. "I respect my opponent", or "I worked on my speed instead of my power", and crap like that.  He didn't let Pac hanging and gave him enough to answer with simple enough questions which all related to him in some way.  A sign of a true pro, that Jimmy Kimmel.

I'll admit, I was VERY nervous as this fight approached because Cotto could actually match Pacman's speed, as was evident in the first few rounds.  I didn't think that Cotto's stamina would deplete so quickly, as was evident by the time he kept on retreating.  I was curious about the times when Pac was standing around just taking some badass body blows against the ropes, to which he said that he was testing out to see how just hard those body blows were.  I love how by the 9th round or so Pac put his guard down and watched Cotto back up around the ring while he looked over at his dad in the crowd saying "Why is the fight still going on?"  Anyway, mad respect for Miguel Cotto and the Puerto Ricans in the crowd who drowned out the sound of the Filipino cheers early on.

And Manny Pacquiao, thanks for reminding me of Filipino pride.  :philippines:

In the latter rounds, I thought that Cotto was just playing possum, using his footwork to recover some stamina then go all out in 11 and 12. But it looked like he was really gassed out. He landed a couple of power shots but Pac was able to take 'em. Cotto's a good fighter, hope he can bounce back from this loss and contend for a title again.

Hats off to Manny. Once again you've made us proud, you know? :philippines:

Quote
Floyd Mayweather Jr. Interview After Manny Pacquiao vs Cotto - Here's the full video and transcript of the Sky Sports interview of Floyd Mayweather Jr. right after Manny Pacquiao win over Miguel Cotto.

"The thing is with Pacquiao I don't see any versatility as a fighter; he's a good puncher but just one-dimensional."

"When they asked Manny Pacquiao 'would you like to fight Floyd Mayweather' he said talk to my promoter; they didn't ask your promoter they asked you, what do you want to do? Manny Pacquiao was asked the same question 'do you want to fight Floyd Mayweather' three times. This is something the world is trying to force on him. If he wants to fight Floyd Mayweather all he has to do is step up to the plate."

"I'm in a no-win situation. If I beat Manny Pacquiao, do you know what they are going to say? 'You are supposed to beat him, you are Floyd Mayweather, you are the bigger man'. If I knock him out they'll say 'you're supposed to knock him out he's been knocked out before'."

"I'm in a no-win situation and when I beat him no one is going to be surprised because he's been beaten before; whatever I do to Pacquiao has been done before - he's been beaten on three occasions. And if I knock him out I don't want the world shouting because he's been knocked out twice before."

"If I go out and make $60-75 million in one night; come on - I'm not losing. Can Manny Pacquiao beat me? Absolutely not."

"The world's going to go 'wow' if Floyd Mayweather gets beaten. That's what everyone is looking to see. What's going on now at the world of boxing is they're trying to build a fighter, make a fighter that can beat me."

"I don't get no respect in the world of boxing. I do my interviews, you got different fighters that disrespect me, and come in on my interviews, which is not fair. Now Manny Pacquiao when he does his interviews, he can do his interviews for 20 minutes, then they go interview his trainers, and the rest of the people in his team. Now, with me, they interview me, they got guys jumping in, being very disrespectful."

"I'm not saying Cotto is not a good fighter, flat-footed, been in a lot of wars. There's nothing cool about taking punishment. 'Oh, I beat this guy up he beat me up. I got a swell eye, a rip lip, bloody nose, a broken rib, made a few million, and my hand got raised.' There's nothing cool about taking punishment."

"Floyd Mayweather beat 13 world champions, 6 time world champion, in 5 different weight classes, and won official belts. I beat fighters at official classes, and I move up to 130. No different than Manny Pacquiao. Manny Pacquiao weigh 106 when he was 16, just like Floyd Mayweather."

"My career is fine, what's so cool is I can take no punishment, no bumps, no bruises. When my career is over I have a job as a commentator, and I will be a great promoter. That's the great thing about my career, I can't speak for other fighter."

Testing issues could derail Mayweather-Pacquiao

By Kevin Iole, Yahoo! Sports

Nearly every detail is finalized for Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao to fight on March 13 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas but one. That one detail, though, may kill the fight.

Negotiations are at an impasse over Pacquiao’s failure to agree to random Olympic-style drug testing, said Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, on Tuesday.

Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach said his fighter is willing to comply with strict drug-testing standards, but Roach won’t allow Pacquiao to have blood drawn 48 hours before the fight.

Ellerbe said he would not let Mayweather enter the ring unless Pacquiao agreed to it.

Both sides agreed that the drug testing issue is the only hurdle preventing the fight from being finished. Earlier Tuesday, Golden Boy Promotions officially requested March 13 from the Nevada State Athletic Commission to host the show.

“As Floyd’s management, we are insistent that there be a level playing field,” Ellerbe said. “This is in the best interests of the fighters, the fans and the sport. If you want a level playing field, the best way to do it is to have Olympic-style, random drug testing administered by the premier agency in the world, the [United States Anti-Doping Agency].”

Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum said the demand is “absolutely crazy,” done simply to harass Pacquiao, who is squeamish about needles, and is proof that Mayweather doesn’t really want the fight.

Arum said the request has been an unsettled issue since the first day of negotiations last month.

“We’re not going to agree to have Manny give blood in training, because that’s stupid,” Arum said. “Every doctor in the world will tell you that is stupid. He’ll give his blood at the beginning of the year and he’s willing to be urine-tested 24/7, but blood doesn’t show [expletive] and he’s not going to do it.”

In a statement released by his publicist, Mayweather said he is willing to submit to the testing. There was never any suspicion that Pacquiao had ever taken banned substances until earlier this year, when Floyd Mayweather Sr. suggested he was on steroids.

Pacquiao has passed every urine test he’s been given in connection with boxing matches.

“I understand Pacquiao not liking having his blood taken, because frankly I don’t know anyone who really does,” Mayweather said in his statement. “But in a fight of this magnitude, I think it is our responsibility to subject ourselves to sportsmanship at the highest level. I have already agreed to the testing and it is a shame that he is not willing to do the same.

“It leaves me with great doubt as to the level of fairness I would be facing in the ring that night. I hope that this is either some miscommunication or that Manny will change his mind and step up and allow these tests, which were good enough for all these other great athletes, to be performed by USADA.”

Blood tests for illegal drugs and banned substances are not required by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which would have regulatory control of the bout if it is held in Las Vegas.

In Nevada, a fighter is required to submit to a blood test that screens for HIV and Hepatitis B and C, as well as other blood-borne diseases, as part of the requirement to gain a license.

A license in Nevada is good for one year. In Pacquiao’s case, he received his 2009 license shortly before he fought Ricky Hatton in May. He submitted his blood to the commission between April 5 and April 20, said Keith Kizer, the commission’s executive director.

Kizer said all fighters who fight in Nevada are subject to random urine tests as well as any other medical tests, such as an MRI or a CAT scan, that the commission deems necessary. Arum said Pacquiao is willing to submit to testing by an outside agency but won’t give his blood. Roach said it’s an issue because Mayweather’s side has been insisting Pacquiao give blood as close as 48 hours within the fight.

“We’ll accommodate their requests and do urine testing up the wazoo and we’ll agree to have them done by an outside agency,” Arum said. “Manny has nothing to hide. But he’s not going to give blood because that’s crazy. He’ll do it at the beginning and he’ll do it at the end. That’s how it is done. Ask some former Olympic boxers how many times they give blood.”

Ellerbe said having the testing administered by USADA would quell suspicions about the procedures or the result.

“This is no rooty toot organization,” said Ellerbe, who noted that such testing was accepted by elite athletes such as LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Michael Phelps and Lance Armstrong.

Roach scoffed at such talk and said it won’t matter to him if the fight is not held.

“I really don’t care, because Manny doesn’t need Floyd Mayweather,” Roach said. “The tests he’s requesting are not commission tests, they’re not boxing tests and this is not an Olympic sport. A urine test is just as qualified as a blood test. [Human growth hormone] is not detected by blood or urine.”

The World Anti-Doping Agency successfully used blood testing at the 2004 Olympics in Athens to test for HGH.

Pacman SUING Mayweather's camp for defamation of character? Nice!
http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/12/31/09/pacquiao-sues-mayweather-doping-allegations (http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/12/31/09/pacquiao-sues-mayweather-doping-allegations)

And all for an amount "in excess of $75,000" (which Mayweather could handle easily) just for the sake of the principle.  You can't go and accuse someone of something so detrimental to their career in such a high profile manner without any proof.  Handing out a few bagged lunches to some bums on the street to make himself feel better doesn't compare to how Pacman is trying to reform the politics of a whole nation who's just gone through one of the worst natural disasters of the past year.

Paccuiao vs. Mayweather off because the 2 cant agree on blood testing. Are you kidding me!!!!!! This is why boxing is losing so many fans. Boxing need to standardize all of its rules. This fight would be going forward if boxing had a standard practice for every fight. Everything about a fight is up for negotiation. I think that only the venue and the purse split should be the only things fighters can negotiate. Fighters with too much power = biggest fight of maybe last 5-10 years not happening. :smhid :banghead: :fap

Never was about Packy and Mayweather. Arum didn't want the fight from the get go, either coz Packy is epo doping or something, which i find unlikely, or some completely other reason. This Charades from the promoters is just ridiculous.

Its official, the fight off. From ESPN

With his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. all but off, Manny Pacquiao has instead agreed to fight Joshua Clottey on March 13, Pacquiao's camp said Friday.

Clottey's manager told ESPN.com's Dan Rafael that he spoke to Pacquiao's promoter, Top Rank's Bob Arum, on Friday about the fight's details but would only confirm a "seven-figure" purse.

"Josh is ecstatic about it," Vinny Scolpino told ESPN.com. "I think we can get this done in a couple of days. He's coming home [to New York from Ghana] on Monday."

Clottey cries as embassy denies visa of trainers

MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao was beating up his sparring partner in Los Angeles the other day and Josh Clottey was home in Ghana begging US embassy officials to grant visas to his trainers so they could join him in the US as he trains for the big fight on March 13.

Pacquiao, based on reports, beat up light-middleweight Byran Brooks in four rounds of sparring at the Wild Card Gym. But if it’s the same Bryan Brooks, the one and only boxer that goes by that name in www.boxrec.com (http://www.boxrec.com), then there’s no reason to be happy.

Records show that Brooks is a native of California, who’s turning 40 in September. Yes, he’s a light-middleweight, but one who has lost all his six fights. He hasn’t fought in four years and should consider himself lucky to get out of the famous Hollywood gym alive.

Pacquiao’s sparring should pick up next week with the arrival of the other sparring partners. It should be welcome news if Shawn Bradley, who helped the Filipino icon prepare for Miguel Cotto last November, or Amir Khan would come in and take the lead roles.

Meanwhile, Clottey, who will challenge Pacquiao for the WBO welterweight crown at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, wept as he faced the press in Ghana, saying he couldn’t understand why his trainers, led by Godwin Dzanie Kotey, are being denied US visas.

“I am very very disappointed. I am so disappointed because this is the reason why I came down to Ghana and the money I spent to buy plane ticket and time wasted have been useless. It is so disappointing and I don’t even know what to say,” he told the Ghana Web.

“It’s like Ghana is not regarded because everybody in the world knows that this fight is coming on. I am very disappointed,” said the pride of Ghana, who came home after signing the fight contract in New York, and has been working out with Kotey at the Attoh Quarshie Gym.

Since Kotey and probably an assistant will be “working” in the US while Clottey trains, they are being required to secure P-1 visa (a working visa). The problem, however, is that it’s not easy, and the soonest they could get them is two months from now.

The fight should be over by then.

The National Sports Council and Sports Ministry of Ghana has already stepped into the picture, but US embassy officials wouldn’t budge.

“Alloway is the coach I know, he can speak my language to me and make me understand things better. I am disappointed in the US embassy because now I have to go and do this difficult job with people I don’t know. Now everything is on only me, I have to do it all on my own so I have to be at my best,” Clottey said.

“I am in good shape and I am enjoying myself in training and I must say I am very ready for the fight even if its today. But I need my coach there with me, I need him,” he told Ghana Web.

Floyd Mayweather v Manny Pacquiao back on - for November 13 :theking
make it happen!

Quote
Floyd Mayweather Junior's superfight with Manny Pacquiao is back on for November 13.

Pacquiao's manager Bob Arum has revealed that he has pencilled in that date following the resumption of talks between the two sides.

Arum has even provisionally booked the Las Vegas MGM Grand and the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium in Texas for the clash.

However stumbling blocks remain and Mayweather has not dropped his demands that Pacquiao is blood tested and the Filippino's legal action against Pretty Boy's camp over allegations he has used drugs remains.

Manny vs Floyd would be great. If only Floyd would stop making excuses.

I watched a fight for the first time in a long time last night, finally Sky decides to show some boxing for a change. It was Wladimir Klitschko against Samuel Peter with Wladimir winning it by KO in the 10th round. Samuel had a lot of heart and some fierce power behind him, but didn't have the speed nor the reach to apply it, and Wladimir just kept him at arms distance, jabbing him before Samuel could even swing a punch. Really, it should have been over sooner but Wladimir was pretty much toying with him, he dealt the damage in the first two round but then until the 10th it was just a lot of clinching with a few jabs here and there. There was some controversy over whether the fight should have stopped sooner in the 10th as Wladimir was piling on the punches on Samuel which the ref didn't call off sooner, but I gotta point the blame at Samuel's corner for not stopping it sooner. His right eye was virtually closed over and he actually stumbled to the corner at the end of the 9th, but they still let him go on? Would be interesting to see Wladimir and David Haye duke it out. That would be a great fight.

While the Pacquiao fight went down, David Haye was fighting Audley Harrison for the WBA World Heavyweight title. It was hyped for a long time. Two British boxing greats, one on top of the world (Haye), the other seen as a journeyman (Harrison). Haye looking a win would see the possibility of fighting Wladimir Klitschko. Harrison looking a win would regain his standing as a formidable heavyweight boxer once again. So who won?

*SPOILERS*

Haye totally won. In 3 rounds. Harrison was only able to land one punch. It might be because of the hype that led up to it, but the immediate reaction from the boxing pundits is that it's one of the greatest boxing mismatches of all time. I'm glad Haye won, because hopefully it will lead to a fight with Klitschko. Also glad Harrison lost, I saw one fight that was equally hyped up between him and Matt Skeleton and it was the most boring boxing match I've ever seen. Nearly put me off heavyweight fights completely.

Gotta feel bad for the people who had to pay £16 to watch this mismatch!

Floyd Mayweather arrested in Vegas

Associated Press

LAS VEGAS -- A lawyer for Floyd Mayweather Jr. says the boxer is being freed from a Las Vegas jail following his arrest on a misdemeanor warrant alleging he poked a security guard in the face last month outside his home.

Attorney Richard Wright told The Associated Press on Friday the 33-year-old Mayweather was being processed for release without bail from the Clark County jail pending a Tuesday court date.

Police Officer Jacinto Rivera said Friday that Mayweather was arrested late Thursday at a Las Vegas-area casino.

The warrant stems from a battery charge alleging Mayweather poked a 21-year-old security guard in the face during a Nov. 15 argument over parking tickets.

Mayweather had been free on bail on unrelated felony charges stemming from a September dispute with his children and their mother.

I put my money on Klitschko for tomorrow's fight. Even if Haye wins tomorrow, it'll be for nowt unless he fights his brother Vitali for the championship, Vitali being considered the better fighter of the two brothers. And considering Haye is retiring at the end of the year (seriously), it doesn't leave that much time to schedule a fight with him.

Yeah, by a clear points decision (117-109, 118-108, 116-110).

It was a typical Klitschko fight and boring as shit. Haye was just simply pathetic, shooting for "takedowns" (in a boxing match, yes) flopping on his knees while hoping for one big punch to land.

A punch he wasn't really even trying to land very often, I might add.

THIS. The man can fight but his matches sure are boring to watch.

Haye's style is always to go on the counter attack but Klitschko was giving him none of it. So Haye tried to go on the offensive but he can't keep it up. Typical British media trying to cover for him too. 'Oh he wasn't allowed some pain relief before the fight'  'TV crews were blocking the view of Haye's corner'  'Haye had a broken toe'. Fuck off with that. Funny for a toe that's been broken for 3 weeks, how it had never been mentioned until he lost. Boxers have sustained worse injuries during fights and kept on going. No good excuse for me.

^Oh man, that vid was fuckin' HILARIOUS!

You still gotta hand it to the Klitschkos, they really are the best at what they do. Maybe it's not the most crowd-pleasing style of fighting but so what. A sport's a sport and the purpose is to win the fights.

It's not their fault everyone else in the heavyweight division sucks monkey balls. :monkey:

Ricky Hatton has announced his retirement from the sport. Which is weird considering I thought he retired a while back ago. I've never seen such a sporting comedown in my life. King of the world one minute, then after one fight his career and lifestyle had gown downhill big time.

It's very common in Boxing for foots to get tangled when a Southpaw (lefthanded fighter) fights an Orthodox (righthanded fighter) because both fighters are fighting for position. There is another video running around in response that shows Pacquiao stepping on Marquez during the fight, although the person who made the response video is kind of a D*#^.

Managed to see the fight for free last night! Gotta love technical problems on the PPV channel!

Chisora's either very brave, or very stupid, for not only slapping Vitali at the weigh in, but for spitting water at Wladimir in the ring!!

Dereck Chisora spits water at Wladimir Klitschko (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ord-KoeIC9s#ws)

Vitali was showing his age a bit in the later rounds, but an otherwise decent, but boring, performance to shut Chisora out. Although ultimately, the fight itself has been completely shadowed by what happened afterwards where Chisora and Haye got into a brawl at the post match conference.

Dereck Chisora brawls with David Haye at Klitschko vs Chisora post-fight press conference (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWQs8nMsZNg#ws)

All seems staged to me, even Frank Warren said as much when he was angling for a fight between the two where the winner goes on to fight Vitali. Both boxers should be ashamed of themselves.

Haye was talking smack about Chisora at the press conference before it all kicked off saying that he had lost 3 fights in a row now. Man, Floyd had Justin Bieber in his ring entourage, along with 50 cent, Lil Wayne and Triple H. The whole posse looked like a freakshow circus act, really.

--

Great fight. I do find it funny people are giving Cotto props just for not losing in a completely lopsided fashion. Guess that's something against Floyd, though. :P

In reality, this was yet another boxing masterclass by Floyd Mayweather Jr. He was never in any sort of trouble and actually attacked a lot more than usual. People seriously seem to think that Floyd just shatters into pieces or something if he just gets hit clean...

Who next? Guess there's a chance of Bradley scoring an upset over Manny... that'd be an easy piece of matchmaking then. We're never going to get the Floyd/Manny fight anyway, that much seems to be clear...

I guess this can be considered a victory...of sorts...

Quote
Floyd Mayweather Jr. Ordered to Pay Pacquiao $114,000
9/19/2012 12:18 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been ordered to pay Manny Pacquiao $113,774 in a defamation lawsuit -- in which Pacquiao says Floyd falsely accused him in 2009 of using performance-enhancing drugs.

The $114,000 is a penalty the judge levied against Floyd for failing to attend a court-ordered deposition in the case, and will go towards paying Pacquiao's attorneys' fees and costs. It does NOT mean Floyd lost the case.

Mayweather was ordered to sit for the deposition between June-October last year, but he never showed ... insisting he was too busy training. Pacquiao fired back, claiming Money May was lying about being too busy ... because he was photographed flitting around the country and partying in nightclubs.

Pacquiao argued he deserved to win the case on that basis alone, but the judge rejected his request.

The case, which is now nearly 3 years old, will continue to move forward.

On the contrary, I bet this will make Mayweather WANT to fight Pacquiao. "I knocked out Marquez, who knocked out Pacquiao, therefore through transitive property I can now beat Pacquiao!"

I'm not sure Mayweather/Pacquiao will happen. I do agree, his mindset now is that he can take him now. But because Marquez knocked him out, he might not want to do it because he doesn't think it's worth it anymore. Also, the money won't be there.

I was rooting for Marquez because I started to sympathize with him after watching 24/7 on HBO.

But damn, I didn't expect a knockout punch like that! Awesome fight.

Zou Shiming won his first pro fight but it was only 4 rounds. Very entertaining 4 rounds and he's pretty slick and wild. He moves around a lot so I dunno if he could keep that up for 10-12 rounds.

Floyd Mayweather to fight Canelo Alvarez on Sept. 14 (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/boxing/floyd-mayweather-agrees-fight-canelo-alvarez-mega-showdown-031719899.html)
O_O WOW I did not expect that to happen.
I'm expecting Floyd to box his way to a decision as usual. Canelo's good, but I don't think he's quite ready for it yet.

Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter dead at 76
Former professional boxer became an advocate for the wrongly convicted
By Mark Gollom, CBC News | Posted: Apr 20, 2014 9:54 AM ET | Last Updated: Apr 20, 2014 2:39 PM ET

Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, the former professional boxer who became an advocate for the wrongly convicted after spending 19 years in prison for a triple murder he didn't commit, died Sunday in Toronto. He was 76.

Carter's struggle for freedom and exoneration was made famous in a number of books, a Bob Dylan song and a Hollywood film. Although born in the U.S., Carter had a special connection to Canada, where he settled following his prison release, which came about with the help of a group of Canadians.

Carter's work continued until his death. In a recent letter in the New York Daily News printed in February, Carter said he was on his deathbed, but that his "final wish" was for Brooklyn's district attorney to grant a hearing to David McCallum, a man who has been imprisoned for 28 years for a murder Carter said he didn't commit.

Carter was cremated Sunday and no funeral or memorial service has been planned.

I'm looking forward to it, but some of the hype for me died years ago when it looked like this was never gonna happen. Again, I'm gonna watch it, but I'm not invested as I would've been 5 years ago.

I comfess, I had absolutely no interest in watching the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. I am also probably one of a small handful of Filipinos who believe that Pacquiao's aggressive, in-your-face, high-tempo-try-to-overwhelm-your-opponet style never had a ice cube's shot in hell of beating Mayweather's patient, be-responsible-defensively, counterattack-when-the-opportunity-presents-itself, control-the-pace-of-the-fight-and-make-your-opponent-overwork-themselves style.

Now with that being said, I found a free online stream of it and, even though the stream was sketchy at times, I did watch the fight. I would have liked to have seen Pacquiao knock out Mayweather. I would have liked to have seen him make the sports world able to put a tick in the loss column of Mayweather's record. But, as I expected would happen, I watched the fight go the distance and saw Pacquiao lose a judge's decision that I knew (ever since they first announced the fight) that he would never be able to win anyway.

Anyway, looking at the various online reports/analyses of the fight that got posted, in my opinion this guy probably sums things up simply, if bluntly.

SBNation.com - If you paid $100 for Mayweather-Pacquiao, you're a chump (http://www.sbnation.com/2015/5/3/8539433/mayweather-vs-pacquiao-pay-per-viewrecord)
- http://www.sbnation.com/2015/5/3/8539433/mayweather-vs-pacquiao-pay-per-viewrecord (http://www.sbnation.com/2015/5/3/8539433/mayweather-vs-pacquiao-pay-per-viewrecord)

Yes, it comes off a bit more as a rant than a report/analysis of the fight, but when he gets to the second half of the article, you cannot deny that quite a bit of what he says makes sense. In the second half of the article, he talks about some of the unwritten/unofficial realities of the sport of boxing that some boxing fans just don't want to accept exist.
1st Point
Quote
Mayweather is going to retire never having fought somebody on his level. The trick he pulls is convincing you that he's about to fight somebody on his level. In this case, it was past-his-prime Manny Pacquiao, six years after this fight should've happened.
2nd Point
Quote
But it's worse! Because this wasn't even Manny Pacquiao at full strength. Pacquiao's team claims Manny has a tear in his shoulder, and had for almost a month, and that he'll need surgery on it.

Some think this is just a way saving face after a bad performance. But let's believe them for a second: they're telling us that they asked an injured boxer to give it a shot against an all-time great with an injured shoulder.

This is not a sound boxing decision. It is, however, a spectacular decision when you get $100 million just for showing up. Manny Pacquiao got $100 million for showing up.
3rd Point
Quote
Floyd Mayweather is smart. It's not his job to fight somebody who should beat him. It's not his job to give that person an opportunity to give that opportunity to beat him by fighting brashly. It's his job to win and get paid. And he did.
4th Point
Quote
Manny Pacquiao and his team are smart too. They knew they had to make this show go on, even if Pacquiao was hurt.
because again, as stated in a previous quote from the article...
Quote
Manny Pacquiao got $100 million for showing up.

Now obviously people are now abuzz about "what's next" for both fighters. Well, obviously a rematch is out of the question, as both camps and both fighters know that there's not much of a chance that they'd be able to match the hype (and thus, the payout) of this match. It's not like they'd need to fight again anyway. Both guys are stupidly rich and (as long as they don't spend it all and don't do anything even stupider that would cause them to lose it all) they'll continue to be stupidly rich.

Mayweather's got tons of endorsements, I'm sure. It's also known that he's got tons of investments and real estate holdings that make him tons of money. He's also got enough earnings that even with his extravagant lifestyle, he can afford to just completely retire and live off of all the interest that his money gets.

Like Mayweather, Pacquiao also has endorsements, investments, and real estate, not to mention his dabbling/forays into playing pro basketball, singing and acting. Mainly though, Pacquiao has/will have his "political career" back in The Philippines to fall back on. His popularity is so high back home, that as long as he continues to run for whatever political office/position is available, he will continue to get elected "because he's Manny". Hell, The Philippines is due to call a Presidential election next year (2016). If Pacquiao decided, or if he were convinced to announce his candidacy, it would not surprise me at all if the country votes him in because the people decided that they want "President Manny".

EDIT:
SBNation.com - 5 things that cost $100 that are better than Mayweather vs. Pacquiao (http://www.sbnation.com/2015/5/3/8537173/mayweather-pacquaio-ppv-cost-noooooo-dont-do-it)
- http://www.sbnation.com/2015/5/3/8537173/mayweather-pacquaio-ppv-cost-noooooo-dont-do-it (http://www.sbnation.com/2015/5/3/8537173/mayweather-pacquaio-ppv-cost-noooooo-dont-do-it)

Can't say that I disagree with this list; especially that Kindle Fire tablet, that's a hell of a deal. :yep:
