Title: The Tokyo Idol Festival 2014 Thread
Post by: tsutomo on April 07, 2014, 11:08:25 AM
boys and girls, this is one happy day. it was announced some hours ago that this year we'll have once again the biggest and most famous idol event in the world: Tokyo Idol Festival, aka TIF. as always being realized in Odaiba. August 2nd and 3rd.

there were a lot of rumors and fear that last year edition was the final one. wrong. the festival will continue, despite the increasing rivalry with other major festivals and producers. the first list of groups has already being revealed and... imo, even they didn't add a single group more, the festival would already be awesome.  :)

(last year we had 111 groups and HKT48 being the "big surprise name". place your bets what we'll have this year. Momokuro finally? Nogizaka46? Denpa Gumi.inc returning?)

official site: http://idolfes.com/2014/ (http://idolfes.com/2014/)

38 confirmed groups:

I'll be there no matter what :twothumbs ... once SUPER GiRLS and GEM are added.

A person I know predicted TIF would be announced this week. But this same person also thought PASSPO would get a big sponsorship deal with SUBWAY just because they eat there all the time.

"Big name surprise" prediction: NMB48 (because of SKE and HKT)

"Medium name surprise": E-girls

"Small name surprise": Himekyun returns

Other random predictions: hopefully predia is on the mainstage (and 9nine, assuming they attend again). And Sakino Chiba's super indie group is invited.

The most important prediction of all: Mano Erina unretires for just one day.

For anyone on the fence about visiting Japan, this is the reason to finally get yourself to go. You will not be disappointed... unless none of your top ten groups are attending, in which case you should become a GEM fan.

I will be there without a doubt.  :twothumbs So far, the group I'm most excited to see is coming is I☆Ris, since I really like them and was really disappointed they weren't there last year. I didn't manage to catch them at all during my trip (their only live was the day I left ;___;) so i'll definitely be catching them. Them included, I'm pretty interested in seeing 13 of the acts announced so far. I have a great feeling about this year!

My guess for one of the surprise names was gonna be Juice=Juice, since they are H!P, but still new and up-and-coming. But since it's the same daya as the H!P summer concerts, there goes that theory  :P

The groups I most hope get announced now are Dancing Dolls, Prizmmy, Prism☆Box, Party Rockets, Babyraids, and Fairies (Doubt this, though, as it has yet to happen). And I'd also REALLY love to see the soloist Rio Hiiragi
This is not including all the iDOL Street groups, which I of course need to see, but I am sure they'll be announced haha.

medium surprise... Hiroshima MAPLE*S are going
small surprise... some AKS related group

all groups i follow closely are already listed so the rest is just info

groups I want to see (and have big chances to appear): Hime Kyun, Rio Hiiragi, Bump.y, Akishibu, Chu-Z, 7cm

groups I want to see (and have small chances to appear): Dempa Gumi, Team Shachihoko, Fairies, Asfi, Next Shojo Jiken, Gouhou Lolita Syndrome

groups I want to see (and are just pipe dreams): Perfume, SKE48, Momoiro Clover Z, some korean group

groups we'll most likely not see there (I would be shocked to see announced): H!P groups, Alice Juban... BiS  :P

if I had to place a bet on someone unlikely to appear but a gut feeling tells me we'll see there: some ex-AKB soloist

since they already started 'spreading' the acts that get called, we may see almost anyone there, even some girl band or pop act (like Gatcharic Spin or Shiho Namba)  :nervous

You think Riorio has a good chance? Oh gosh, I hope so!!!  And I forgot to mention Akishibu, that'd be great!! (I'd love Chu-z, too, actually. haha)

Anyway, I hope they do streaming on nico like 2012, because I definitely can't go

just to let speculations continue, AKB already announced a handshaking event for the next single in the second weekend of august. which means at least for now all ~48 groups are available to participate in TIF this year.

the tricky thing will be the Idolnation announcement. whether it'll happen in the 3rd weekend or in the same days as TIF. in this case we could see TIF losing some big names.

Probably will go there, as I am planning to attend the PASSPO One-Man-Flights in Osaka and Nagoya 1 week prior. And as PASSPO will participate in TIF... Why not?  8)

Though I am a bit concerned if I get along in such a big venue and how it works in general (Never visited a concert or festival in Japan, and I can't speak Japanese). Any english infos on the net regarding TIF? How to get in? Are all the stages in buildings? Where will events like Handshaking take place - Grand Market?  :?

Anyway, my faves beside PASSPO are:
Idoling!!!, Up Up Girls Kakkokari, Weather Girls, Palet, Predia.

Hoping for Baby Raids and Party Rockets, as I prefer Rock-Idols
Super Girls would be nice too.

they always have handshake events and a place for merchandising so doubt this year will be any different

no idea if any info is in english, doubt it, but surely they have lots of signs and stuff like that

great, I jinxed it.  :sweatdrop:

the pic Shura posted is the layout from 2012 (I guess) but it's basically the same stuff every year, so it works.  as you can see, there are stages in open places (where you don't even need tickets) and indoor. each stage is pretty distant from each other, so be prepared to walk a lot, use some maps or GPS and don't forget to drink a lot of vodka water cuz it will be hot as hell. some staffs may understand a little of english, but it won't be difficult either way for you to figure out where are places by yourself, since there will be some big signs and lanes, insanely huge lanes everywhere!!!

and hey, if you want, you can accompany some other foreigners there  (last year no H!P meeting occurred, let's see this time...)

We'll all meet at the Gundam statue at 7AM sharp. Kidding, but I am fine meeting up if anyone else is.

^^^ You'll be fine even if you only have limited Japanese. If you are able to go to Osaka and Nagoya for PASSPO flights, TIF will be a breeze. The website does a good job at providing all the necessary information like ticket availability and performance schedules. The tricky part is coordinating your personal schedule to fit the performances you want to see and the handshake/photo times for each specific group. But creating the perfect schedule is also fun... unless there are time conflicts between your top groups.

The map looks really huge, but GPS?  :D I already know, that it will be hot. Been to Japan one time in the middle of August and it was hell. I swore, to never go there again during summer. So much for promises  Better than rain anyway...
But as you said, it will be fun to experience (hopefully). Following other foreigners or the flow of people seems to be a good approach. And I agree: Planning your schedule is half of the fun  :D
Thanks for the advice regarding time conflicts. I will take a coin with me, for Head or Tails

Regarding the Passpo flights: This will be my first concerts in Japan, so no experience right now and nothing to compare it with.  ;)

Meeting up is alright with me :jphip:

Be prepared for more questions when new official infos are up  :P

Hope everything goes well with the PASSPO concerts. Last year I went to SUPER GiRLS concerts in Tokyo and the next day in Osaka... and it was pretty hectic.

And I agree about summer weather in Tokyo, but fortunately the last two years have been fine - with the exception of day 1 last year when it rained out a few night performances. There are a lot of indoor venues though, and after 4PM it gets a lot cooler. Honestly it's so fun, that you don't even think about the weather (unless it starts raining). All of the stages are within walking distance - that map from above is from 2012, the layout from 2013 was different. They changed some of the stages, making them further apart, but still within 5-10 minutes of each other (except maybe the Venus Fort stage which I never went to). I agree with tsutomo that the lines could be pretty bad last year. Unfortunately they removed more stages than they added, and since attendance was higher than 2012, it meant more people packed into fewer stages. I hope they open up both Zepp Tokyo and Zepp DiverCity and have two competing main stages and also add the second stage back to the roof (Secret Court). I think they removed Secret Court last year because too many people found out about it.

From Tokyo to Osaka? :shocked Even Shinkansen needs 3 hours. Why you haven't written about it in your blog?  :smhid
PASSPO should be fine though in that regard, as there are 5 days between.

Now I am anxiously waiting for the new Stage Map.

THIS. it`s actually one of my major concerns and I really hope they change their approach this time. we need MORE stages, not less.

last year to get the elevator to the sky stage was a pain in the ass during most of the day.

I don`t go the handshakings in TIF to be able to see more groups, so I pretty much end up running from one place to another, all day long.  :nervous it is quite an exercise and I`m always looking at the GPS in the cel cuz I get lost pretty easily.  :sweatdrop: (well, this is not related to TIF only. I always get lost when I`m walking around)

this friday we`ll have the pre-festival night at O-east. would be nice if they announced some more groups there (or at least in the same day).

Yessssss Prizmmy!!! That means two of the groups I wanted most who were not there last year, i*Ris and Prizmmy, I can see this year! I'm so excited I could screeeeaaaaammm.

I'm feeling really nervous, though, because Dancing Dolls was not announced. They were announced in the second wave last time, and I want to see them again more than anyone. (Favorite idol group after all.) Considering when their next single releases, they won't release a new one while i'm there, so no promotion events. If they aren't at Toyko Idol Festival, I fear I won't get to see them D:

However, Cheeky Parade and SUPER*GiRLS also haven't been announced yet, and I am sure they'll appear as they do every year. iDOL Street fans seem to make up a large portion of the people who attend TIf, after all xD So there is hope for anyone, I suppose~ So definitely still hoping out for Dancing Dolls and hopefully Hiiragi Rio this year!!

well, so far now they are following a different pattern from last year... but if it goes as expected, in the next waves of groups (two more this month?) they`ll announce the other big names that didn`t appear yet (super girls, 9nine, denpa gumi, cheeky parade...) if they are not announced by the 6th wave, yeah time to  :panic:

wattstax, as for groups more "rockish" you should look for shizukaze & kizuna and hime kyun fruits can. both weren`t announced yet though  :nervous

so far for me the festival has six groups I want to see (afilia, up up, passpo, predia, yuffie and lyrical) only... very average lineup...

^^ Unfortunately Himekyun will be in Oita on 8/2 and 8/3. I wonder what their logic is for choosing a small club in Oita over TIF. But since they did the same thing last year, I bet the issue is behind the scenes. NanoCUNE and their other sister groups will also be at the 8/3 show.

great. no BiS, no Bump.y and now no Hime Kyun or Frupoche.

looks like this year I`ll have a lot of free time  :huhuh

so the producers don`t go along well with Stardust Promotion, Alice Project, Mad Magazine records, Finolia Factory... who else? soon enough we`ll be able to make an "alternative" festival with all the "excluded" groups that`ll be more interesting than the original.

Make something ike the Idol Koshien FESTIVAL2014... or the akiba daisuki from last year

I know there are other idol fetival I just can't name them now but I think TIF is the only one that lasted this much

^ I think half the groups who were at Idol Koushien Fest this year overlap with this TIF lineup

I think there are loads of these day long idol festivals - is what makes TIF different is that is it a multi-day event?
Title: Re: The Tokyo Idol Festival 2014 Thread
Post by: qwiksXnd on May 03, 2014, 11:00:07 PM
I think tsutomo went to Idol Koushien, so he may be able to compare the two. But the scale is very different between TIF and other festivals like Idol Koushien and Idol Yokocho. Considering there are literally hundreds of idol groups, there will be a lot of overlap, but the overall lineups are different between the smaller festivals, TIF, and Idol Nation. Here are the stages of Idol Koushien compared with TIF.

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/qwiksXnd/th_ikf14_zps571e9206.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/qwiksXnd/media/ikf14_zps571e9206.png.html) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/qwiksXnd/th_tif12_zpse64c74cd.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/qwiksXnd/media/tif12_zpse64c74cd.png.html) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/qwiksXnd/th_tif13_zpsf6e3cd0a.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/qwiksXnd/media/tif13_zpsf6e3cd0a.png.html) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/qwiksXnd/th_tif11_zps08c39539.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/qwiksXnd/media/tif11_zps08c39539.png.html)

Idol Koushien seems more like TIF 2011, back when the stages were all in the same area and the event was still relatively new. I was surprised at the naming of the stages for IKF though, since they used Hot, Venus, Smile, and Enjoy, which were all names of TIF stages (Hot Stage, Venus Church, Smile Garden, and Enjoy Stadium). I would love if there was a major idol festival like TIF or Idol Nation in the spring, since the weather would be much better.

Oh wow, I never realised TIF was spread out all over Odaiba - no wonder there's all this talk of running about everywhere

I agree that in the Japanese summer that sounds insufferable - at least a lot of stages are inside.

I went to Idol Koushien - yeah, it was just in one venue, the other 3 stages were small and just put up for the festival - and I was surprised they were named like TIF stages also.
Title: Re: The Tokyo Idol Festival 2014 Thread
Post by: tsutomo on May 04, 2014, 11:46:19 PM
I don't see Idol Koushien in the same "league" as TIF. at least not theoretically. Idol Koushien, Idol Yokocho, Uta Musume, Love Mark Festival, etc... are all smaller festivals that happen several times a year (Love Mark for example runs basically twice a week or more) and have less groups (and specially less big names).

the only one I'd put in the same "league" with TIF would be Idolnation, but still that is a part of a bigger festival (a-nation) not a festival in its own and have FAR less participants.

the problem here, imo, is that if TIF loses the main acts (let's say this year none of dempa gumi, super girls, 9nine, etc take part of it. dempa already skipped last year) the festival loses its status. or I'd say its "purpose"... turns out being just "another Idol Koushien, Idol Yokocho, etc level festival". you can't really label something as the "the biggest idol festival of Japan" if it doesn't include half the main groups in the country.

oh yeah! I was forgetting the @Jam one. they'll have the big "@Jam Expo" edition this year, which could be compared to TIF (a lot of groups -80?- and a lot of big names). if they make it annual, we may have a serious rival to TIF. it will happen in august too.
Title: Re: The Tokyo Idol Festival 2014 Thread
Post by: qwiksXnd on May 06, 2014, 08:21:29 AM
I've been following @JAM Expo as well. Following it very, very closely. Hanarichu is going to be there! I think its great there are competing mega festivals trying to one-up each other. As long as things don't get violent. Along with Idol Nation, they all seem unique in their own way, so they aren't completely redundant. Although the point of TIF since its inception was to promote the entire idol scene (and world peace) and @JAM seems to be trying to do the same - just with the power of Yokohama Arena. For the record I don't really like arena concerts (no offense arena concerts). Also curious about the VIP tickets. That could be revolutionary. From what I know about Idol Nation and @JAM Expo, I'm on #TeamTIF - at least for now. I prefer stages that allow close access (and stalking opportunities). And for the record I totally hate arena concerts. Ideally Idol Nation is a week after TIF so I can selfishly check out both.

I'm very confident TIF will deliver. Sure every year they lose acts that attended previously, but they always gain others. Looking at the different lineups from 2010-2013, I think they are pretty equal (although 2011 was clearly the best because of a certain person who may or may not have been named Mano Erina).

they changed the previously called "nananon" to a duo with Naaboudoufu@Nana and Nozomi Maeda. and added Caramel☆Ribbon, so we have 72 groups confirmed. if they continue with the 111 groups limit, we have 39 to go.

I believe it was said there would be at least 130-something groups this year? (I forget the number.)
I mean, we gotta expect all of iDOL Street, like every year. So that's the 3 main groups, plus the 6 trainee groups. That's 9 groups right there. So I dunno, thinking about how many will probably come from iDOL Street alone, I really hope we have more groups than last year xD
If Dancing Dolls would just be announced, I'd be happy, though xD (still hoping for Hiiragi Rio, though, as well. As well as a few others)

GEM wasn't announced. Unless they misspelled GEM, which is completely possible.

I really like Houkago Princess. Hopefully this year they have their own stage so they can perform a longer set.

I've been checking iDOL Street schedules and all of the groups have TIF weekend open... so there is still hope (for i-Street fans). I think maybe I should start lowering my expectations just a little though.

if I`m not mistaken, 15 out of these 21 groups will appear for the first time. it`s nice to see Hachamecha, Akishibu, Houkago, Especia and KNU announced but...

I really hope in the next announcements they focus more in established groups or else this year we will have a festival with a lineup VERY different from previous years (which is not always a good thing).

regarding GEM, they were up in the sixth announcement last year, so there`s still time. Dempa Gumi has that weekend open too, so I`m praying for a comeback this year.

we`re up to 93 groups already and no signs of Anna S, Nzero, Izukoneko, Allover, Asfi, Otome Shintou, Namida, Camouflage, SIR, Shizukaze, Shibuya Dominion, Super Girls, Seishun Gakuen, Cheeky Parade, Chu-Z, 9nine, Nato Kan, PPP! Pixion, Party Rockets, PLC, RioRio, Flap Girls School, Fairies, Heisei Kotohime, Yurumerumo!, Yume Miru, Ryutist, Rev.from DVL... there`s too much missing. I`m already preparing myself for a big disappointment.  :panic:

edit- oh, this year we may have less announcements since we have already more groups than last year by the fourth announcement time... maybe just seven or six this year? one thing for sure is that even if they added all the groups I mentioned, they would already surpass the previous limit... and if they do this, they better set one or two more stages.

^ Completely agree. I wasn't sure whether I should mention how these updates are a little too obscure and kind of anti-hyping. Any reaction in Japan about the lineup? I remember last year you mentioned they were pretty critical.

Not related to TIF, but I was in class and laughed way too loud when I read your entry about Kawaii Nippon Expo (re: GEM). Feel the same about Palet (although still not a fan), and totally agree about Rev. from DVL XD Definitely don't hold back with your reviews.

I`m not following the 2ch threads so closely this time, but saw a lot of comments with the same concern. unless we have a great increase in the number of participants we`ll have too many newcomers (including some that I never heard about) this time. if this is confirmed, it'll be a change in direction from what we saw in previous years. remember we talking here that they used to choose only kinda established groups and oversee ones that don't have cds and a good fanbase?

 not only you read that crap I write, but you do it during the classes?!? shameful!  XD

Personally, I'd be shocked if iDOL Street didn't appear. They were announced pretty late last year. But every iDOL Street group has attended every year, so I doubt they'll suddenly stop. If any iDOL Street group stopped, maybe SUPER GiRLS, as they begin to get bigger. But really, I can't imagine iDOL Street disappearing. A very large number of the fans at TIF are iDOL Street fans, I noticed last year. THey seemed to be EVERYWHERE. And iDOL Street seems to bring a lot of girls to the festival, which I think is great.
Still holding out for Dancing Dolls (and Rio Hiiragi) but doubting it now :/ Out of that list (besides iStreet), I'd love ALLOVER, Chu-Z, Nato*Kan, PPP! Pixion, Party Rockets, Riorio obviously, and Fairies (though they seem to be pulling away from idol events so i don't think that'll ever happen)

I'm super excited. With Party Rockets added, we officially got the 3 groups that weren't there last year that i wanted there this year. With Dancing Dolls, we now have my favorite group added. And there were two other groups added that I'm really excited about, too. I think this is gonna be an amazing year, at least for me. Now here's hoping my favorite groups don't overlap!!
Still waiting for them to announce iDOL Street though...

Daydreamer told about "130-something" groups this year and it really is looking that way now. since they did eight announcements in previous years, we can hope they'll do the same this time. and they really should cuz there are so many important groups still missing that's just ridiculous.  :(

well, at the very least we'll have one more announcement with the "big surprise name" as always. don't tell me we won't have this either  :panic:

regarding smaller names, it's such a shame they are adding so many unknown (at least for me) groups and nothing of Asfi, Next Shojo Jiken, Festive, Feam, Clip Clip, Ready to Kiss, Ryutist, Irori Maeda, re-2... the list goes on.

All your mentioned groups are also unknown for me ;)

But I don't care. The most important groups for me are there and the rest will hopefully have some pleasant surprises. :)

And something positive as well:
As they are unknown to me I won't regret missing one or two groups because of time limitations or overlapping performances as I don't know what I am missing :D

you know what it feels that only agencies or management that are in good terms with the producer of TIF are invited because seriously there are lots of smaller groups that aren't going and that have a decent fanbase (did i mentioned Mary Angel ??)

call me when they add Hiroshima MAPLE*S... or QunQun :V lol

yep, we already knew the producers didn't have good relationship with some agencies (alice project, stardust, finolia) but from what we're seeing now, looks like the "blacklist" is way bigger than what we thought. in previous years they used to call small groups that were somehow established (good fanbase, cds released) but this year they are calling some groups totally out of the blue.

or now they are adopting a new approach or... several groups are turning down their invites. dunno what would be more worrisome.

ps: 9nine will appear at Rock in Japan so they may not go to TIF this time.  :( and I just saw that the fucking Brilliant Green will be back to life to perform there too.  :shocked well... looks like I will not attend TIF this year anymore. no way in hell I can miss Buriguri.

well seventh announcement and finally some important names added as Rhymeberry, Yume Miru and Otome Shintou. nice to see LovendoR and Ready to Kiss added too. two more to go: place your bets on who's the big name incoming!

the big notice though is that the map is available now. eight stages. one more than last year (thanks God). now no more shows at Zepp Tokyo or Venus Fort shopping, they were replaced by the a stage at Fuji Tv headquarters and an open main stage to be built near Divercity shopping. the other place is exactly in Divercity, the square around the Gundam replica. so in other words: two indoor venues replaced by two outdoor stages. better pray that it doesn't rain or things will get really messy. for those that are going, beware the sun, more than ever. sucks we were hoping for the inclusion of Zepp Divercity, instead we got the exclusion of old Zepp.

well but trying to show a little optmism here... if they are going with a big (really big) open stage... they may finally call some major name, like Momoiro or AKB.

edit: nah forget it. I thought it would be a brand new stage, Summersonic-like but it appears to be small stage (http://blogc.fujitv.co.jp/simg/profile/1bb10/100680458/377686_pcl.jpg (http://blogc.fujitv.co.jp/simg/profile/1bb10/100680458/377686_pcl.jpg)) used previously in other events (as the Mezamashi Live).  :( I thought those installations were temporary when I went last year, didn't knew it's still there.
Title: Re: The Tokyo Idol Festival 2014 Thread
Post by: wattstax on July 06, 2014, 06:11:09 PM
Hm, can't complain about more outdoor stages as it makes a better festival feeling - at least for me. It should be easier to access also.
And regarding the sun: I luckily have a summer hat  Rain though would be different, especially if they cancel shows because of that.
But the exclusion of Zepp at least makes the festival area less big, I suppose?

I am missing Greeting Square and Grand Market :?
I only count 7 stages though. Which is your eight one? Or is Info Center a proper stage as well?

The big name on an open stage - wouldn't that be contraproductive? If I understand correctly, the festival area isn't blocked for people without tickets, aren't it? I can't even imagine the chaos then.

Post by: tsutomo on July 06, 2014, 06:58:11 PM
c'mon, this year I'm going to the beach and will be attending 3 days of Rock in Japan already, if I have more outdoor shows at TIF too... I may turn into a Nesmith (Exile) look alike.  :panic:

hmmm I didn't calculate it exactly but on top of my head I guess that yes, the new venues are a little closer than Zepp and Venus Fort were. last year there were shows cancelled because of the rain (as the Predia one. I'm not the only one here that got frustrated by that) so I thought the producers had learned their lesson. seems they like more taking some risks...

now you got me. I really don't remember now if Info Center had proper lives or just talk shows with the groups. someone that was there last year can help? I remember that TIF Studio always has some shootings, not lives. if Info Center doesn't neither, well that's seven stages against six last year then.

maybe you can't see by the pic I posted, but that open stage actually has some walls surrounding the place so no, people without tickets can't see it. last year the free viewing sites were Smile Garden and Venus Church. now Smile Garden and Gundam area (labeled as Festival Stage).

the proper eighth announcement is out: now bringing the number to 131 groups, they added five more groups including DEMPA GUMI.INC!  :cow:

is Dempa Gumi the "big surprise name" of 2014? I hope not. one more announcement to finish the lineup and I still hope to see at least SKE.  :P

oh I was in doubt about the Info Center... they added the info in the site. it's really just a talk show stage, so seven places with shows this year.

Title: Re: The Tokyo Idol Festival 2014 Thread
Post by: qwiksXnd on July 21, 2014, 05:23:36 AM
Because I'm a nerd I spent the past two days planning my TIF schedule:
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/qwiksXnd/th_tif2014d1final10_zps4475178a.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/qwiksXnd/media/tif2014d1final10_zps4475178a.jpg.html)(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/qwiksXnd/th_tif2014d2final10_zps1cb39e68.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/qwiksXnd/media/tif2014d2final10_zps1cb39e68.jpg.html)

It was already mentioned that they are using "Shintairiku Stadium" as the main stage, which is part of Fuji TV's summer festival "Odaiba New World." I watched SUPER GiRLS on that stage at Mezamashi Live in 2012, and I think the venue is decent (it's an open hanger, but it's covered). It would have been great as a mid-size stage, especially if it was paired with Zepp DiverCity, which is literally just a few minutes away. Here's a photo of the New World area from the Fuji TV facebook page which shows the main stage (the photo tsutomo posted on the previous page was last year's stage, but they reverted back to the original stage this year) It's the red and white structure on the right:
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/qwiksXnd/th_Shintairikustadium_zpsf88a0794.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/qwiksXnd/media/Shintairikustadium_zpsf88a0794.jpg.html)
If you look closely you can see blue benches lined up inside the venue. They used those same benches in 2012 and they significantly reduce the stage's capacity. While there is additional viewing beyond the covered area (in the photo you can see multiple square pens that are fenced off), unfortunately if you are watching from there you'd be in the sun and the view wouldn't be that great. I read somewhere that the capacity is 2,000 (or at least that is how many tickets they make available for the concerts there).

Coincidentally I'm going to Mezamashi Live on 8.1 with SUPER GiRLS/Cheeky Parade/GEM so I'll be able to check out the main stage the day before.

I'm going both days. I shared my schedule for day 1 and 2 ^^ (although I've changed day 1 since then).

My schedule might be a little weird, but I really need to see Narumi Takiguchi, READY TO KISS, and at least one of the Street-sei groups, so it kind of forces me into organizing it a certain way.

Maybe we can have a meet up at the GLITTER8 stage (when they illuminate the Fuji TV building). Seems like it could be cool, unless you've already seen it and think it's lame. Just assuming you are going to be there for Afilia Saga. I'm open to anything, although either before or after Day 1 starts/ends would probably be preferred, since it won't interfere with the idol stuff we all have planned. So actually... the GLITTER8 idea may not work out. How about the Gundam statue at 6AM... or midnight? :P

I'll make a schedule like yours when I get some time. and don't worry about our meeting, I'm a brazilian barbarian but wattstax is an educated german, so he can protect you (I expect).  ;)

BUT I want to go absolutely and need to go to some events/merchandize - Predia, Ayumikurikamaki, Passpo, Baby Raids.
Otherwise Ready to Kiss is on my list too. There are quite a few groups I like to see as well but not necessarily. And as I don't know the area yet, plans are quite futile right now for me.

First thing: Your plan looks great design wise. I only have a excel list :( And as the official site still fails to make a list, that is smart phone compatible, I have to live with it.
I uploaded it. Don't know if it is readable though. The names in the coloured column are my schedule. Minor changes only when I find out that a group doesn't suit me or if I can't be at the venue because of time mismanagement :D

I probably will be there at 8, too. The Idol Koushien the day before shouldn't be that exhausting. You want to go to Smile Garden because of S/Mileage? I probably take a first look at Grand Market / Greeting Square, as there seems no schedule online. Ready to Kiss would be my first performance that day. So a lot of time.

Otherwise similiar schedules are but a few:
Day 1:
Only Hot Stage - TGS and Babyraids
Festival Stage - Predia

Day 2:
Hot Stage - Shizukaze Kizuna, Passpo, Dempagumi
Festival Stage - Predia
Enjoy Stadium - Ready to Kiss
Smile Garden - Passpo, TGS, Jamboree

Rant: So much correlations or too less time to change the venue. Damn.

Btw, there should be a TIF planning App :D

Really, your time table is empty. I like your plan in that regard. Let's see how mine fits in the end.

In case it helps, I made a timetable with just the groups we included in our own schedules. You could then save the image, open it in photoshop, circle the groups you want to see, and save it on your phone. Just keep in mind the time it would take to walk from one stage to another... unless you have magic teleportation powers.

Wattstax, I was analyzing your schedule and I noticed a fatal flaw... you're not seeing GEM. Perhaps this informative and well-made video will change your mind:
http://youtu.be/BcOplOJm06Y (http://youtu.be/BcOplOJm06Y)
I'm jk, stick with your plan, but as a hardcore GEM fan I feel it is my duty to recruit new fans.

About Smile Garden, my plan is to head there first because I have no idea how hardcore S/mileage fans are. I'm not *technically* a fan, but I definitely would like to see them. If the stage is empty, I was going to quickly return to my hotel which is a 5 minute walk and put my passport back in my room (evidently we'll need our passports when we pick up our wristbands), and then head back. I honestly don't think there will be many people waiting at the Navi Stage for READY TO KISS. Even after S/milelage's set is over, there would still be 30 minutes until that stage opens.

Wow, nice work.

Still the thing with GEM: They always interfere with other groups I want to see. Their first show will be right before Passpo on Sky Stage, so no way there. The second time it is close to Bellring. Third time would be doable as they perform right before Predia, who I want to see.
BUT regarding flaws: I don't see Ayumikurikamaki in your own plan. Oh oh oh... :P

I talked with tsutomo already. He won't be able to go there for 8 am, probably more at 10. So any ideas for a meeting? I was thinking about meeting for lunch somewhere, but I don't know the venues. And it seems, our only matching schedule would be Predia, at 21.30 :P

so good to have a woman participating in our planning... already made a proper schedule for us all and is always clever about timing and organizing.  :) no offense wattstax, but I'm sure if was all up to only the two of us this JPHiP meeting wouldn't work.  can I call it that way? unfortunately more people will probably attend the event but don't want to meet with us... I'm feeling so rejected now...  :panic:

yep, I'm working in the night shift this week so I'll get out of work saturday morning already. probably around 7 am. so, even if I went straight to the venue (I doubt qwiksXnd would like to meet me in this case since I would be hella dirty  ) the earlier I would be able to get there is around 9... I'll probably end up losing the S/mileage show. the difficult part imo is around communication between us, since wattstax only can send and receive messages if wi-fi is available there. well, I guess that even in the worst scenario he would be able to recognize me already in the audience but still... what about you, qwiksXnd? I'm sure you won't be the only barbarian girl present there, so...?

tsutomo, you have so less faith in me :P

Bad thing: Didn't find a wifi card anywhere.
Good thing: I checked my mobile service and I can book a flatrate for a relative cheap price. So if you don't send me photos we can do LINE.

Hey qwiksXnd, did you know about this? On Friday at Odaiba Super Girls, Cheeky Parade and GEM.
http://www.fujitv.co.jp/newworld/stage/mezalive.html
Tried to buy a ticket for it, but what is he use of asking the right question in japanese when I am not able to understand the answer. Damn...

Edit: Today I was visiting the festival area. Huge! If you want to go from Navi Stage to Enjoy Stadium for example, you will need an eternity, with the mass of people around.
Hopefully the maintenance work will be finished then. Otherwise I see a lot of pushing.

Oh, I mentioned on the previous page that I got a ticket for Mezamashi Live w/ SG, CP, and GEM. Sorry to hear that you had difficultly with tickets as I could have purchased one for you had I known you were interested. I thought you were going to another concert already on 8.1.

In case you didn't know: PASSPO is doing a split concert with Baby Raids on 8.10 (I can't go because predia has a concert at the same time) and a few days later PASSPO will be at SaiSai Fest (Silent Siren event).

Btw, I have no idea what tsutomo is talking about. I'm not a "woman," let alone a "barbarian girl."

Hah, found your post about the Mezamashi. And yes, the same day I want to go to the Idol Koshien in Zepp Diver City. Tickets will be sold at the venue and as Mezamashi would have started at 11 and Koshien at 13, it would have worked.
Damn, but can't help it.

Thanks for the PASSPO dates. But I will be back on my way home next Monday. Too bad, as I like both groups a lot :( But I will come back for their Shinjuku Blaze Flight end of September.

Regarding tsutomo, he maybe confuses you with someone else on the forum? Or maybe he is still delilrious from Nachu's birthday show :P

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

you are not a girl? really? I was sure you were from our past conversations  :? I'm feeling so strange now. I didn't try to flirt with you, did I? now, I really hope not  :panic:

so where's daydreamer now? at least she is a girl, I suppose. well, doesn't really matter since she doesn't want to take part of our meeting...

well, either way wattstax and I are trying to figure out about using Line to communicate. what about you, qwiksXnd? at least you'll have to say what shirt you'll be wearing or something so we can find you.
actually, you could go with an "I'm not a girl" shirt.  this would be quite funny. tonight I'll try to convince my boss to let me get out earlier at friday. if I could, I'd be able to meet up around 8.

edit: oh! and now since we are all men, we can arrange an after hour at Kabukicho in some strip club I guess.  :shakeit:

I arrived at the airport at 10:30PM last night so I wasn't able to buy a sim card for my iphone, therefore I'm not able to communicate without wifi. Maybe we could PM each other about meeting up, but I'm fine with at night after predia's stage, since I think we'll be there anyway. Kinda coincidental we all happen to like them.

After Mezamashi Live, I wandered around Odaiba for an hour, but because it was so hot I went back to my room, made a lame recap about the concert, and was about to head out again.... but I accidentally fell asleep for five hours. Not sure how that happened, but probably because of the 16 hour time zone difference from L.A. and only sleeping two hours last night. Anyway, looking forward to TIF, but it is going to be extremely hot.

edit: I'll PM you both tomorrow morning regarding meeting up (basically just what I'm wearing, but I'll be the guy with GEM goods - more like "greats"). Glad you made it to Mezamashi Live. That makes us officially cooler than tsutomo.

The Jetlag can be tough. I know about that. Then let's meet at Predia. I will be a guy with brown Bellring Shirt and a hat.

And yes, TIF will be exhausting. The short show at Mezamashi was terrible enough (Yes, got tickets!)
Went right after that to Idol Koushien which was a blast. Now I need to reschedule as I pinky promised Juri from Bellring to see their shows :D

So is everyone still alive after TIF? Got sunburned on Saturday and my feet are still hurting. Didn't make it out to the My Navi Stage or the Sky Stage once because it was too far/inconvenient.

I guess Fuji TV wants to have TIF coincide with their summer festival thing, but I would welcome more people to do events like this in early autumn when the chance for heatstroke is not so high. I don't get the whole "it's the hottest time of year? let's gather people together outdoors (many of them who will be drinking a lot) and make them stand around in the sun!". Enjoy Stage and Doll Factory was great because it was air conditioned!
Title: Re: The Tokyo Idol Festival 2014 Thread

I survived. And I've been campaigning for years (inside my head) that there should be a TIF equivalent during the spring when the weather is cooler. The heat was brutal and a lot more intense than previous years because Hot Stage was also an outdoor stage (horrible decision btw). I also occasionally hung out in Enjoy Stadium just to avoid being outside (and to escape from tsutomo XD). I skipped Sky Stage (which is my favorite stage), because (1) it was too hot,  (2) I would only consider going up if several of my favorite groups were performing consecutively and that never happened, and (3) it was too hot.

If TIF had an award ceremony these would be my winners:
Best Newcomer
La Pom Pon (http://lapompon.com/ (http://lapompon.com/))
I only saw them perform for ten minutes, but I got hooked immediately. I'd describe them as a cross between GEM and Fairies.

Most improved group
For some reason Links (http://www.links1919.com/ (http://www.links1919.com/)) is always scheduled between groups I like, so I've never been able to avoid them. Fortunately, they got a million times better since 2012 and 2013.

Best group that performed while wearing bikinis
G-Girls

Worst group that performed while wearing bikinis
G-Girls

Of the three TIFs I've been to, this was the worst organized. You had to go through a ridiculous maze in order to enter the covered area of the hot stage. There were too many stages that were open to non-ticket holders. The worst offense was they actually made the foreign fans wait an extra two hours before they could get their wristbands. It was extremely unfair because it prevented us from queuing at any of the stages. It didn't affect me because the first stage I went to was the Navi stage which just happened to open really late, but I feel bad for any foreign fan who wanted to see S/mileage or any of the groups performing first in Doll Factory, Sky Stage, or Enjoy Stadium. Imagine Japanese fans buying tickets to an event in the U.S. or Europe, and once they arrive they are told they have to wait two hours longer than the locals before entering.

First thing, mixedmedia: Who are you and why haven't we met there? :P

My experience is mostly the same as qwiksXands: It was unbearable hot and the area is much too big! Attending Hot Stage was especially hard. Don't know, how much I drank there! But I avoided tsutomo even by being outside :P
As it was my first TIF I didn't have the opportunity and cleverness to avoid the outside stages. But qwiksXnd at least could talk me out of Sky Stage: As I know now it would have killed me, especially when having to line up hours before. And PASSPO at noon in the open sun - I am not Wota enough it seems.
Lining up for 15:45 Hot Stage (PASSPO, Dempagumi) was also terrible. I was there already 13:15, as I wanted to see Dorothy and Up Up before. But I had to stay in line right before PASSPO started !!! And yes, because of the biggest fault in organization: Entry was a maze, stages are just to small and in open sun, and the main failure: Every outside stage was available for non-ticket-holders! Not the first rows but anyway, made it impossible to get a good sight if there were too much "outsiders".
Grand Market was also completely in the sun. And as I wanted to buy a lot of merchandize and take part in events it added to the heat. But I don't think of TIF ever being NOT in the summer. As tsutomo explained to me, this is the holiday season in Japan and therefore the best time regarding attendance. But I would prefer another similar event in Spring or autumn, like qwiksXnd. Or if I have a chance for visiting again I choose indoor festival like Idol Koushien or @JAM. This will also avoid those damn schedule overlaps  :D

Didn't have the experience with the wristband though as I got me a regular tickets. But it sounds really "racist" :D

But anyway, TIF was in most parts a nice experience, especially with all the idols walking around the area. :) For me to see so many differnt groups, partially formerly unknown to me makes it worth the struggle. But will probably change my approach the next TIF, if I will be there.
A group that suprised me positively was プラニメ, although they always played one song 2 times (but a great one).

1- yep I noticed you guys were trying to avoid me. as long as you stay 1 meter away from me, its completely safe, though. why there`s no love for the wotas with bad manners???

2- as the american said that day, what saved the festival were the idols. at least from the shows I managed to see, most of them were great. except some Sakura Gakuin or Vanilla Beans shit I had to see cuz it was stuck between groups I like. but regarding the organization... I`d put this year TIF in the same level as Comiket. aka horrendous.

-too many outdoor stages where people without tickets could watch too. there were at least four indoor venues that could be used (Zepp, Zepp Divercity, Venus Church and Megaweb) but weren`t. why? the producers really want us to suffer, I guess. they were lucky this year we had no rain, otherwise this edition would have turned into an epic failure. in fact, one should think that using more indoor venues (where you need tickets to watch) is in their interest, but looks like they don`t care. maybe they want to accumulate some financial losses so they have a "good reason" for not realizing it again next year.

-I will never understand why the fuck they use two elevators to go down from Sky Stage but only one to go up. it's made on purpose to discourage people wanting to go there, I guess. not only that, once you get in the middle of the way, why make people use the stairs instead of the other elevators that go till the rooftop where the stage is actually placed? the idols and staff use them but the audience... fuck the audience.

-moving the market and handshake area to a parking lot that has no sun protection and is farther away from most of the venues = brilliant.  :banghead: once again, it's made on purpose. they can't be THAT idiot, right?

-the maze to get in the main stage. why, just why? five minutes walk to get there... insane lines to get closer, where they had benches placed... a lot of blockades everywhere to separate the area and prevent moshing, I guess. the fact the main stage got placed in the middle of a theme park with lots of small kids, families and girls wanting to see an Exile exhibition is simply  :banghead:

-looks like each year they try to make the area bigger to ensure the audience to lose more and more time walking in the sun. well, let's set up some stages at Tokyo Disney next time. why not?

-I comprehend the organizers are people from TV Fuji behind Idoling!!! and all but... they set up dozens of collaboration shows between the group and others. which is nice, if you are an Idoling!!! fan. why just them? why so much focus in the group? now I understand why some famous groups decide to skip the festival, why serve yourself as mere stairway to Idoling!!!, right? they should just rename the festival to TOKYO IDOLING!!! FESTIVAL next year.  :P

-I already complained a lot about the groups absent, so let's skip this part.

-it was kinda ironic they had put so severe checking before you enter the handshake area but had so few staffs and protection elsewhere. and since they had so many outdoor venues, they should have offered more toilets, maps of the area... I'm pretty sure some years ago they had maps and signs leading all the way, nowadays its almost nothing. I already know where things are located, but I imagine how it would be to someone going for the first time.

3- best and worst show, at the same time: last Passpo show at Smile Garden. flying penlights like when I saw Momokuro at Summersonic some years ago... I thought they would interrupt the performance because of that, specially since some reached the stage. serious moshing going near the stage. the german can say more about that.

Crappy shaky recording of プラニア at Smile Garden but Saki runs into the crowd mid-song (second time) and gets lifted!

20140802 プラニメ Plastic 2 Mercy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZI1ADgqYCM#ws)

wattstax: I signed up for the site a long time ago and only recently started coming around again.

Had I known that the "Grand Finale" was just gonna be a bunch of Idoling!!! collabs, I probably would have stayed to watch Afilia, PASSPO etc. again. At least I got to see Team Makenki since I missed them on Saturday?

In response to our brazilian friend :P
Yeah, I was standing in the front, 3rd row or something. And there was serious moshing. Someone knocked down my glasses and destroyed them. I never experienced that before, neither at PASSPO one man nor at TIF itself. Never will do that again. I prefer me standing at the sideline now :D
Damn TIF "fans"!

But great summary, tsutomo!
