Just needed to get this thread done so you can post here instead of news thread, sexies
-
Wait. What? o_O! ee.... so.... WHAT? :ONstoned:
-
Thanks Shi.
I for one am really excited, Tsunku picking just Aika was so disappointing to me. Hopefully these girls will bring some variety and most of all, talent to Morning Musume.
I saw a crapload of pics around of Li Chun (Chun Li woot xD) and she's like, crazy cute. o_o
And ponytail-chan kinda reminds me of Aichan. And Ayaka, now that someone mentioned it.
I was just discussing that Aichan's solo album rumour with a few friends online and BAM this news comes in. I've been convinced she's stuck until MM gets some fresh new actual talent. So here's hoping. :P
Yay, go Tsunku.
-
lolz.
-
This will either cost Tsunku his job and his life or raise him up to the biggest producer of all time :D
But i like to see more girls joining Momusu, even for a short period of time as exchange students. I wonder how the girls are going to communicate.
PS: MIKI has more girls to grope :yay:
-
Li Chun reminds me a lot of Reina, a puffier reina..
and why is there so much immidiate love on her..?! what about the other one :P
(by love i meant pics, lol)
still the most important thing..
can these girls DELIVER TEH GOODS? that's what matters. imo.
-
Do they speak Japanese?
They might not last long if they don't.
-
Whoa...that is crazy.
talk about variety, but yea as said, Cuni Li :ONkekeke: does look like a puffier Reina.
-
Okay okay.
I saw Li Chun... (or JunJun... whatever), and she is WAY adorable. That added a couple of positive points in my book. And she still doesn't look 19, but whatever.
But I'm still super skeptical and not particulary pleased with this announcement. If this fails, that means poor Aika jumped on a sinking ship! :(
-
This is probably the most insane, random thing Tsunku has ever done XD
I wish him the best of luck
-
Wow. Didn't expect this.
It'll be interesting to see how they fit in.
At least they're of a reasonable age this time though.
-
Tsunku's finally proved he's lost his marbles.
It'll be fun, either way. Aika was a welcome addition to MM, so are these girls.
-
what?... this is weird Oo
-
Junjun's cute as a button, Linlin's my long lost PONI-CHAN (see Egg thread for the mystery)!! LOL
I sure hope they speak Japanese!
I'm scared they'll only be around for just a few weeks/months or something -_- That this is just some publicity stunt... That they'll disappear like Simmin T__T
I'M EXCITED!!!!!!! THESE ARE THE "CUTE NEW MEMBERS OVER 15yo" THAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR XD XD XD
-
I'm wondering if they speak Japanese.. I think they probably do.
Anyway, I'm really excited :D especially about the older one. She looks cute!
This makes up for Aika being the only one getting into MM.
Tsunku for worldleader! haha
-
Now as I think about it...haha this IS super Random but not bad Random.
Like a surprise random which is coOl, hope all is good along the process :ONbingo:
can't wait to tell my mom when she wakes up.
-
This is good...but it's probably for a limited time. Remember it's the "Asia theme" for the 10th year anniversary, and with this additions and Yossi's grad, there will be exactly 10 members in MM ;)
-
:ONshock: WHAT THE-?! This is, by far, the craziest thing I've heard relating to H!P EVER..
Li (Lee?) Chun is definitely cute (as you could probably tell from those pictures shirenu posted up) and "Rin Rin"/"Lin Lin" is not bad on the eyes either..and adding them to the MM roster might bring some variety but we have yet to hear them sing....or speak Japanese for that matter..
Hopefully this'll all work out and we'll have more girls to worship er...admire :)
-
This adds an odd feeling to MM :O.....
-
chan pon chan!!!!! hahhaha
this could be the start of UN-styled momusu... actually that would be cool... an international girl group....
first impression: lin yes, chun meh
-
can't wait to see how the rest of e ol folks sleeping, tucked away under the blanket will react tomorrow.
Ahh can't wait for the official video announcement this sunday.
-
Tsunku calls them "overseas student" so they probably will only last for a short while... And he mentions the 10th year ann which makes me think this is just a 2007 thing...
But at the same time he talks about the potential of these girls... How they could bring something new... And also the timing of this happening so soon after Aika's addition could mean they're a part of 8th gen...
I really don't know :?
-
Hope Junjun and Linlin can fit nicely with the group. At first glance, Junjun kinda resembles Chinami on the topmost pics on the first post.
Tsunku's got guts and he's not afraid to take risks so I admire him for that. At least it's girls he added to the group. Now if he decided to put in guys, then that's the time when we should be alarmed :P
/waits for Linlin and Junjun's H!M debut XD
-
Are those "she" typo errors or do you know something about Tsunku that we don't :D
-
:o Tsunku's gone mad!! :D
Li Chun is very cute, but does not look 19!! XD And Qian Lin does have a resemblance to Ayaka, kinda. I'm excited too! Wonder what their voices are like?
-
I think there is no problem in communication.
Now in the East of China, more and more
young people could speak Japanese.
-

Anyone know what is elementary level English??
-
Well I must say tsunku made the right choice. Chun Li Looks great in red \o/

Looking great. :ONbingo:
Hhmmm elementary level is basically the Hellos, Byes and asking if I remember correctly
-
I read this a little earlier this morning, and I still don't know what to think. I am happy about the ages of the two girls, but this is so... random! Two Chinese girls appear in MM out of thin air!
I hope there's some televised news released about them soon. I'm reserving judgment until I actually see them in action, I guess.
But... yeah, wow.
-
Nice tactic to invade China, Tsunku-san!
-
hmmm interesting...be funny if they start speaking in chinese rather then japanese haha XD but yeh, cant wait to see what they bring to MM :D

Tallest girl since lida, and that's a lot for Morning Musume standars.
-
Tsunku plans for world domination is upon us
-
This is gonna take some time to set it for me. I'm not even sure what to think of this. More info and time to think it over will be needed for me.
At least the girls are cute.
-
Now we only need the proper praise thread for the new girls.
-
Tsunku calls them "overseas student" so they probably will only last for a short while... And he mentions the 10th year ann which makes me think this is just a 2007 thing...
That's actually a good strategy since this is kinda risky... if people like the new girls, he can just make it permanent. And if not, bye bye, it was just a 10th anniversary special.
-
Maybe more competition added

-
Oh dear...
-
shocked and speechless:ONomg:
-
can they speak japanese language?
-
Oh lord, I was liking Junjun 'till I listened to her singing! :'(
But this is H!P...there's Sayumi on Momusu, she still can't hit a note, but I love her anyway.
So Linlin was a H!P Egg?!...didn't know they had chinese eggs! O.O
-
Let's wait and see how this turns out...
-
JUNJUN FTW!!!
-
O______________________O
Li Chun is pretty damn adorable (as everyone already pointed out) and FINALLY! Over-15
But holy @%^&.. I wasn't expecting this sort of news when I came to check the forums during my lunch. lol - But why put them in MoMusu if they're not staying that long anywho? Am I expecting this to be like when Coconuts Musume came in and stayed for awhile but then eventually leave because of the language barrier?
..I could see if Tsunku put them in like .. a shuffle unit but MoMusu? O__o
-
This definitely draws my attention and makes the group interesting again (for me).
-
WOW.. why are SOME people upset about it.. its different and it might be good. Chances are they could AT LEAST speak some japanese. (or maybe even fluently)
-
Nikkan Sports now also has the news: http://www.nikkansports.com/entertainment/f-et-tp0-20070316-170236.html

Translation of Tsunku's message
Greetings,
In this season of amicable spring scenery, I thank you more than ever for your support.
Now then, today, I hae an announcement for everyone supporting Morning Musume, as well as to those it may concern.
I am informing you that I have decided to welcome in "Jun Jun" (Li Chun) and "Lin Lin" (Qian Lin) into Morning Musume as (exchange) members of the 8th generation.
Last year, around the same time as the 8th generation auditions were taking place here in Japan, Junjun was taking part in an audition in Beijing, and Linlin became an exchange student with the Hello! Project Eggs, after being introduced to me by a friend, and I had her perform in concerts and watched her force.
In 2007 and beyond, one of my goals is to expand into Asia, and I decided having the girls be key persons and join Morning Musume would be the best thing.
These two have personalities that haven't been seen in Morning Musume before.
Also, with regards to their singing skill, I strongly believe they are members with "many new possibilities hidden within".
This is Morning Musume's 10th anniversary.
As a vocal unit continuing to move forward while going through graduations and auditions, you've all loved them.
I'm really anticipating what the addition of Jun Jun and Lin Lin, as well as any new evolutions will bring, all while facing even more developments.
With that, I ask for your support of Morning Musume, Hello! Project and myself from here out.
I hope from my heart that you all will have a wonderful Spring.
Sincerely,
March, 2007
Tsunku, Morning Musume Producer

:panda_haha:
Seriously made me laugh. Ohh, I certainly hope so, judging by that clip.
-
junjun so cute >.<
-
So... which generation does that make these girls? 8th generation? 8.5? 9?
I really like Junjun. She seems to have lots of singing potential, even though she crashed and burned in that clip.

Li Chun's Blog?

-
whoa bikkurishita
oh crikey!
-
damn tsunku what a crazy move :o
crazy enough that it just might work...
but maybe not :\
-
Asian domination!
Watch them disappear like Simmin in a few months. :P
-
WTF
The last thing I thought would happen is non-Japanese girls in MM!!!
Tsunku always manages to shock. Pretty speechless really...very interesting times ahead.
Domination of Asia is underway
edit
does 'exchange members' mean they are in for a fixed period, or for good?
-
JunJun pics thread http://forum.jphip.com/showthread.php?t=9071
Linlin pics thread http://forum.jphip.com/showthread.php?t=9072
-
I SWEAR i knew this was coming. Esp. with SM TOWN bringing in Chinese talents. I'm not sure how about these two girls at all - I'm all Aika.
-
I really hope they don't dissapear like Shimmin, I love diversity. D:
<3 Junjun <3 Linlin
-
Li Chun...
zomg, i like saved 25 pics of her not knowing who she was and wondering why the hell she was in the H!P picboard on Hello!Girls...but now...makes sense...
Tsunku, you have redeemed yourself!!!
-
At first, I was shocked by this. Now I see as this, its just two more bodies for Miki to grope :ONwahaha: j/k . Plus if adding these girls end up being a good thing for MM they can stay. If not, we all can say its for the 10th year anniversary thing.
-
Wtf? Tsunku's drug dealer must be getting him some powerful stuff.
It's going to be a little embarassing if these girls can sing in japanese better than some of the current roster.
-
Exchange student is like another way of saying "learn and go home". I doubt their stay in the group is permanent. Tsunku might even be high enough to create a new unit for the Chinese duo when they're ready for it, though. Linjun Junlin!
W is obsolete.
-
oh no...i hate China
-
I think the medicine might be responsible for me thinking "meh" XD;;; I hope they're interesting cause right now they aren't overly impressing me.
Good luck to them!
-

i reckon thats it, get them some good exposure, then make a new Chinese unit and sell it in China. Tsunku knows how to rake in the yen/yuan
-
WOW that was kinda unexpected!!
I think their real test is the upcoming concert series plus a new single.
Would be cool if the single after yossi's grad contains chinese lyrics~
exciting!!
wo zhu ni men hao yun de!JIA YOU BA@
edit: junjun's singing isnt that bad for H!P standards. After some vocal lessons she'll sound decent enough! SHe is from Wunan!! COol~
-
Well, if they don't know Japanese, expect some Chinese words or butchered Japanese in upcoming releases.
-
And Morning Musume reaches a new low.
-
What the fuck?!
I don't know what to think, honestly.
ALTHOUGH
Does anyone remember those 2 extra golden water lilies thing in the MY ASIA video at the end? Are those resembled for these two girls?
-
wtf? this is probably thee weirdest thing Tsunku has ever done... I hope they can speak Japanese...
I'll have to see more before I make any judgement on them. For now, I wish them luck ^_^
-
Im shocked and quite frightened :ON@_@: Lemmie just...let this news sit, cuz right now, although an immediate fan of JunJun, I'm unhappy with it XD
Doesn't it seem like a waste of everyone's time and money to have these girls come in for a year and then just get rid of them?
-
Well, if they don't know Japanese, expect some Chinese words or butchered Japanese in upcoming releases.
They can always learn their lines phonetically. Even if they don't know what they're saying the fans will.
Didn't Aya learn a bit of Korean this way for her concert there?
-
I was thinking about this earlier, and honestly, if you were Aika, wouldn't you be pissed? I mean, is she not enough 'new talent' to get people interested in Momusu again, they have to bring in 2 Chinese girls to do it? XD LOL
-
LOL KABA-CHAN
Psh. Yes I'd be pissed if I was Aika.
-
I'd be more pissed if I were one of the girls from the audition that didn't get chosen. They must be thinking that these girls are taking the spots they could've had.
-
What the fuck?!
I don't know what to think, honestly.
ALTHOUGH

wow - serious. good observation. haha
HONESTLY - i'm not sure what to think about it either. i'm SHOCKED. totally. i mean MM's kinda died off a bit over the years, i'm not sure if bringing in CHINESE girls would bring them right up the charts again...
i feel bad for miki right now. she has a lot on her hands... plus communicating with girls whom probably can't speak Japanese.... wow. MIKI
-
I was thinking about this earlier, and honestly, if you were Aika, wouldn't you be pissed? I mean, is she not enough 'new talent' to get people interested in Momusu again, they have to bring in 2 Chinese girls to do it? XD LOL
LOL, I wouldn't be surprised, nor would I blame her if she's irritated about it. XD
-
I for one am REALLY happy! Another reason for me to REALLY REALLY want to study Chinese NOW! XD
Seriously, I was losing faith in Tsunku after he brought the puppy eyed okama into the group, but this is so random and crazy it just might work! Good going Tsunku, maybe you aren't totally gone!
They're older, they're fresh, and they might add some craziness to the talk shows being "foreign" and all. And with the imminent economic explosion of China, do I sense "Totsugeki CHINESE LESSONS"?? that would rock. seriously.
And unlike Simmin, whoever she was, he put them in the MOMUSU. that means they are the main act and will not be pushed to the back and forgotten! (at least to the wotas and us)
Except I feel a little bad for Hitomi now...not one but 3 new members to boss around before she graduates! Make Miki leader quick!!
-
The first one looks cute
-
"I'm really anticipating what the addition of Jun Jun and Lin Lin, as well as any new evolutions will bring, all while facing even more developments."
Sounds like it's for the long term - at least a couple years would be my guess.
EDIT: I wonder if Simmin was a test balloon.
i.e. Tsunku had this in mind at the time, and used her to see how the fans would react to a non-Japanese member.
-
Yes I'd be pissed if I was Aika.
Well, when reina, eri and sayu came in tsunku tossed in miki as well. So adding someone from outside the regular audition stream is not unprecedented.
Has anything been officially stated about what generation they will be considered?
-
I wonder if the new Morning musume lyrics will now consist of Japanese/English and Chinese ... it would seem logical if they want to expand thier fanbase.
-

The difference is that Simmin was just in H!P, these girls are becoming part of H!Ps top group. Seeing some of the reaction on the boards is not positive... I wonder what the reaction in Japan is like!

I'm guessing they'll most likely be included in 8th gen with Aika.

Tsunku has money to pump around. haha besides - even if these girls aren't popular in japan, they'll probably be ok for the chinese market? maybe? i dont know. as a chinese, i dont find either particularly attractive. i'm sorry but aika had me instantly. soooooooooo - haha.
-
The difference is that Simmin was just in H!P, these girls are becoming part of H!Ps top group. Seeing some of the reaction on the boards is not positive... I wonder what the reaction in Japan is like!
Yep. I'm sure it's mixed. On the other hand, MM is going to be the headline on every newscast in Japan tonight.
Simmin received a pretty got reaction from the fans though. If she was universally hated, I doubt Tsunku would have done this addition.
-
This could be very beneficial to Momusu even if it doesn't work out. They'll recieve tons of publicity and press from this and shows most likely will want to have them on again increasing their profile in the media.
-
What a good news !
New members, and from China ! <3
-
So THAT'S what he meant when he said this year's theme was "Asia".
I think this could be very very good for H!P. It will definitely get them more fans outside of Japan, where the wota image hasn't put a stigma on being a fan. That is, depending on the marketing...
But judging by how much effort they put into Maki's Korean events, I think they'll try their damndest not to mess this up.
-
Oh dear...
Oh dear is right... Li Chun's singing is atrocious. :( I'm not happy with the additions at this point, but I'll give it a chance.
-
omg... this is just so awesome! Tsunku is hitting the world by adding 2 Chinese girls into MM!!!
Like everyone said, this is probably the news that he wanted to announce in H!M.
Shit... now I have much more interest in MM ~ ~ ~ Despite the girls are like much younger than I do ~ ~ ~ XD
I think it will take them some time for them to debut in MM, as I'm guessing they need to learn their Japanese first! And I hope this new thing Tsunku is trying will not end up like what Coconut Musume did...
-
Linlin looks too much like a young Ayaka.
JunJun looks cute
That's all I have to say for now, these are good news to me. When I see them in the group, then I'll say more.
2ch is going crazy
-
I'm guessing they'll most likely be included in 8th gen with Aika.
Well most likely, as in the official site it says they are "transfer students" of the 8th gen.
Reason is that when Tsunku had the 8th gen audition in Japan, he had the same thing in China too. That means he already planned this step early ago.
anyway it says that Li Chun had participated "Super Girl" in China. I'm trying to see if I can find any clip of her in it.
(Super Girl = American Idol but in China)
-
Tsunku plans for world domination is upon us
He will probably will create a United Nations version of morning musume.
This is a surprise indeed, way to early.
Tsunku is a genius if he can make this work. Lets wait and see.

sorry for all these postings I made, but I FOUND it!!!

But she sings pretty good!!! She may be a big rival for Ai-chan!!!

shi still has a chance! ;)
-
WOW! A week away from H!P (damn uni!) and when I come back I find... this!! :ON@_@:
Now everything makes sense: only picking Mitsui, the Asia theme, the announcement... Tsunku owned us all XD Anyway, I don't know if MM is the best place to begin making changes, but well...
-
sorry for all these posting I made, but I FOUND it!!!

Thanks for the link
I guess she's an okay singer (not sure if the quality of the vid does her any justice). I wouldn't call her a rival of Aichan though, no way XD
-
ah, refering back to what i said about chinese lyrics, we already have some chinese in Maki's rai rai shinfu and Taiyou & ciscomoon songs when ruru was around~
-
Well most likely, as in the official site it says they are "transfer students" of the 8th gen.
Thanks for finding that!
If that video of li chun is the best she can do (and proves to be rather like sayu's kitchen audition video, with everything downhill from there) then aika is still in the running to be the top vocalist of the 8th gen.
-
Oh dear is right... Li Chun's singing is atrocious. :( I'm not happy with the additions at this point, but I'll give it a chance.
imo alot better than aika - and she sounding 'alright' in atm.

I guess this is the same vid, but on youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXPC4uMuFVk
-
Wow, this is ... news!
But after the first shock, I feel kind of excited about it and the girls look nice and likeable.
And even if it's only for a limited time (the Asia year) it still brings some fresh air into H!P.
-
I guess this is the same vid, but on youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXPC4uMuFVk
yes it is Happosai, I tried to find in YouTube but I couldn't find it (never thought people will name the file that way)
Anyway thanks for linking it.
-
But she sings pretty good!!! She may be a big rival for Ai-chan!!!
:D
You've gotta be fucking kidding me.
-
I give up on Morning Musume.
-
This will either cost Tsunku his job and his life or raise him up to the biggest producer of all time :D
But i like to see more girls joining Momusu, even for a short period of time as exchange students. I wonder how the girls are going to communicate.
PS: MIKI has more girls to grope :yay:
XD Miki is good at what she does isn't she? Li Chun is looking really cute. Her b-day is near mine too XD.
-
WHAT THE F***?!
Holy sh....................
I have a feeling my interest in momusu will be gone when the current line up all graduate (excluding mitsui)
-
WHAT THE FUCK?!
CHINAAAAAAAA!!!! XD
-
You've gotta be fucking kidding me.
hey... I have hope for Ai-chan too, and I believe Ai-chan will stand for the best in MM until she graduates. But who knows about the future, maybe if she gets train and she learns to her best, "maybe" she will stand at the same level as Ai-chan, Reina, etc.
I'm NOT stating that ChunChun will take over Ai-chan, it's just that there will be a neat and interesting rivalry/match-up in the future.
:D
So... I'm MAKING a funny prediction and funny comment!
I'm HIGH on BEERS!
XD
-
DAYAM! What's next tsunku, Madagascar Musume!
-
My general reaction would have to be "What the FUCK?"
Tsunku's bizarre as usual, haha. Bending rules like that. (Such as the time Risa joined, there's always been a rule that the new girls can't have any previous attachment to agencies and whatnot. That and I thought H!P had a foreign policy with MM...)
Li Chun sings decent enough. Glad that we finally get another alto in the group (Too many sopranos.) I'm sure Tsunku can bring out her full potential like he brought out Aika's potential.
I'm interested to see how this turns out xD
-

Haha cheers dude, it's cool. :D
I just thought Li Chun sang pretty damn horribly in that clip. Anyone have any idea what that 'judge' says about it?
-
Could Tsunku being pregnant (http://forum.jphip.com/showpost.php?p=328684&postcount=61) be behind this shocking decision? XD
-
Despite of my mentioning of Tsunku making them into a unit, I just can't take this seriously. It's like he's subtly making fun of the Chinese. For what reason, I don't know, but come on...
Rairai
Ruru
Junjun
Linlin
Meimei
etc.
It's a Japanese thing, I know, but still...
-
DAYAM! What's next tsunku, Madagascar Musume!
Don't give him any ideas XD

Last sentence of the article =
"In the future, there is a possibility of members joining from other Asian countries such as Korea"
:o :o :o :o :o

IF they kept doing this, it'd definitely be a whole new direction for MM. Not probably something people have been asking for, but lots of fans have needed something new...
Me, I don't really care where the girls are from as long as 1.) the majority is still Japanese, 2.) they don't have too much trouble communicating in Japanese, and 3.) they're cute and charming (and hopefully talented) ^_^
-
From the sanspo article, the leader's "surprise", something along the lines of "I don't understand what the hell all that is!" :-)
-
well if Tsunku decided to try this new regime on MM, then there is the possibility of having girls from different Asia countries to join MM and form this whole "Asian Morning Musume".
However like I said before, I hope this will not turn into something like Coconut Musume and the way Coconut Musume did...
I agree with shi, that MM should keep with Japanese girls as the majority and that they are cute/charming/talented.

Something new doesn't mean it's necessarily good- I wonder what the Japanese fans think of this?
And I agree with JTRIX, please god don't turn out to be a coconut disaster!
-
That's what I love about Tsunku - the bastard never ceases to surprise me. XD
-
Could Tsunku being pregnant (http://forum.jphip.com/showpost.php?p=328684&postcount=61) be behind this shocking decision? XD
haha disgusting
I'm not impressed with the singing in the video, but I'm sure she'll be allright. Sayu has managed to improve her vocals..
-
The madness never ends in HP americans, koreans & now Chinese girls in MM. Tsunku is a nutter but I think it might turn out cool. Aika just wasn't enuf for me either. She has no spunk & that is too many 1member generations ( what with Maki & Koharu kicking so much ass & aika being so plain). on the plus side, with yossi leaving the group was too small. I like more then ten members. This should be a good year lol.
-
Wow, now this is something ... I'm curious how they'll fit in. They're cute enough, but I'll just stay neutral for now :D
-
so what i understand from that article is that linlin can speak little japanese, while junjun canot? exciting!
-
HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just spoke to my best friend on the phone as soon as I read this in Hello Non-Pro Hour (http://jinryuichi-hnph.blogspot.com/index.html) HOLY. FRICKING. CRAP.
We just like screamed for two freaking whole minutes-freaking crap!!!!
She was like, "maybe there is hope for you after all..."
I swear if they have another audition because yossie is leaving I am totally high tailing it to Japan-apparently I speak more Japanese then they do-ohmagawad. I AM FREAKING OUT!
I do wonder how the fans are going to take this...
When I saw RinRin I kinda rememmebered Aibon a bit...I am probably just suffering from withdrawls.
I love the 93483 million pictures Jun Jun took of her self. Ahaha, totally what I do.
Oh my gosh, I was going to go take a nap but now I am too wired!!!!!!!!!
-
Something new doesn't mean it's necessarily good- I wonder what the Japanese fans think of this?
Something new doesn't mean it's necessarily bad :P
Tama said people at 2ch started forgiving the girls for being Chinese after they learned how cute they are :D
Linlin's supposedly been in Japan for a year, so she should've picked up some Japanese by now...
-
so what i understand from that article is that linlin can speak little japanese, while junjun canot? exciting!
You're right! OMG!
-
I guess all I can say is, I can't wait till the next Hello Morning and if they say something about it.
Doe anyone know where we can see the video where tsunku was annoucing that he had an announcement?

what news is this from, where did you get it?
-
wait wait, is tsunku actually aiming for a special opening performance in Beijing Olympics next year ??
ok enough rambling from me, gotta sleep now....
-
Holy fucking shit!
I wonder how the losers of all the other auditions feel?
They better not get booted out after a year or so. Assume their Nihongo is up to par -- how else can they play them wacky games in H!M?
-
what news is this from, where did you get it?
well I don't know where it is from (need to say it by Cookie) but those are caps from some morning news show in Japan, as the time showed 6:49 (which just passed awhile ago in Japan) and probably someone recorded that part and capped those pictures.
most likely I bet the pictures are from 2ch.
-

Oh ok, I was all excited wanting to watch the clip.
Oh man I need to take a nap but i am sooo wired about this...I like want to call my mom and tell her, even though she won't care.
Holy random decisions tsunku...
-
I sense an uproar is going to happen. But I guess I should go to the show and see it for myself and then make my judgement... hopefully everything will be ok -_-"
-
This website (http://hochi.yomiuri.co.jp/entertainment/news/20070316-OHT1T00061.htm) says the two will debut at Yossi's grad (May 6th) at the Saitama Super Arena!
-
oh right so that's who poni-chan is and why we had no idea who she was!! lol
They're both cute, junjun's taller than she looks by looking at her.
well....she's taller than me anyway

Translation:
narrator: Number 060665, Li Chun.
-singing-
judge-guy: Your age is very young, but when singing, you can't sing in a young manner. Right now, your singing is a little childish.
Li Chun: Thank you.
judge-guy: Thank you.

Honestly, that's the worst news I've heard all day. That day is soposed to be about YOSSIE not some chinese girls joining Momusu. I can see Tsunku all "A great leader leaves and two new girls join to keep up the legacy blah blah" but I don't want that. I want everyone to be looking at Yossie because she's amazing in every single way.
Stupid choice Tsunku.
-
^ If Yossi's amazing in every single way, she shouldn't have to worry about some n00bs that will probably be on stage for a total of 10 minutes.
-
^ Ok, but the point is that that concert is her's, of course she wouldn't be worried or threatened by them o.o
-
From the Sanspo article:
- JunJun and LinLin will not appear on the 04/25 single "Kanashimi Twilight".
- They will debut at Yossi's grad concert on May 6th, (Nyago also posted this above)
- The members of Morning Musume were told on March 14th (Wednesday)
- The project has been carried out by Tsunku in the utmost secrecy since last year
-
^ Ok, but the point is that that concert is her's, of course she wouldn't be worried or threatened by them o.o
It's not the first time this happened. Koharu made her debut on Rika's Graduation concert...
-
Right. I see exactly what you are saying LovelyMermaid. It IS Yossi's night. I really hope they only stay there long enough to say "Hey! We're the chicks joining" and then leave.
This makes me bitter. I mean, they're cute yeah... but. I don't know. I just don't see them fitting in with Morning Musume. They need to form their own little cute duo.
And the "Exchange" thing. I'm aware that relates to the fact that they are from China... but does that mean they are permanent, or just in for a little while? Because you know... when you're an exchange student, you don't stay wherever you are forever...
-
i hope its only temprorary to commerate the 100th anniversary thingy that is going on.
-

I actually agree. It is Yossie's day, even if Junjun and Linlin won't be on stage for a long time maybe. They could've always debuted on Kanashimi Twilight or after Yossie's grad. Oh well. =/
- The project has been carried out by Tsunku in the utmost secrecy since last year
o_o
i hope its only temprorary to commerate the 100th anniversary thingy that is going on.
Woo, 100 years!
-
OMG! This is freakin crazy news! They're really cute girls but I'd like to see how they'll fit in with the everyone else. I'm curious to see how Morning Musume will turn out in the future.
To tell you the truth, once Yossie and the rest of the 5th and 6th generations graduate, that will be enough of Morning Musume for me.
-
From the Sanspo article:
- The members of Morning Musume were told on March 14th (Wednesday)
Oh, man! I hope they had cameras rolling! I bet the girls' reactions were priceless.
-
I guess this kind of stuff only happens in Japan, but it shouldn't have started. The two girls will be hated by some people and even those in H!P. Do they even speak Japanese? I thought this was a joke at first but seeing all these news caps, I have to face the truth. There's no need to import Chinese girls into MM. They already got market in China. I've stopped listening to HK pop just because of MM. Tsunku is making this complicated...
-
Woo, 100 years!
100 years of Morning Musume!
Man, Yuko really must be getting on.
-
Ok, so will they be the 9th Generation or the 8th?? I want Micchi to be the Miracle Girl DAMMIT! And wow, he added Chinese Eggs! What happened to Shimmin?!?!??! I'm kinda mad that he added Aika by herself, but he decides to add 2 Chinese girls instead of 2 other 8th Gen audition girls?!?! I wanted Minami and Sumire DAMMIT!!!! >< F00K!
-
The two women are part of the 8th generation. Shimmin finished her "studies"(?) and returned back to South Korea.
If I were Aika I wouldn't be mad, especially knowing that this was being planned over the last year. Tsunku obviously only chose one girl because of these two women.
-
It's not the first time this happened. Koharu made her debut on Rika's Graduation concert...
didnt the 6th gen also debut on kei's graduation?
or was it someone elses? :S
-
Last time I was in Shanghai a couple years ago, not once did I see any H!P merchandise in any of the stores I went to. These included bookstores, video stores, music stores, etc. And believe me, I was looking pretty hard during that month I was there. That's not to say that there wasn't any Japanese merchandise, though. Mostly stuff like Avex and Hamazaki Ayumi though.
Saying they "already got market in China" would be like saying that they already have a market in the US, or Canada, or the UK. Sure, you might find individual fans who get their stuff imported, but there is no public exposure. Maybe it's different in HK or Taiwan, but I didn't see anything on the mainland.
-
Obviously you didn't see the supar sekret pinko shops!
-
lol I don't remember Koharu at Rika's grad.
-
This website (http://hochi.yomiuri.co.jp/entertainment/news/20070316-OHT1T00061.htm) says the two will debut at Yossi's grad (May 6th) at the Saitama Super Arena!
ok - yeah. i'm not happy about this either. what the heck? yes yossi won't be shunned - but enough attention would be directed towards those two simply b/c of the reactions we're getting thus far. so i think this basically wipes out the rumor about aibon coming back on yossi's grad too eh?
i hope its only temprorary to commerate the 100th anniversary thingy that is going on.
i second that. i seriously hope its temporary........ its ok for them to be in H!P but as for being in morning musume....
-
so i think this basically wipes out the rumor about aibon coming back on yossi's grad too eh?
Given how H!P has been treating her lately, maybe they'll send her off to join a Chinese group.
-
Obviously you didn't see the supar sekret pinko shops!
Yes, there's lots of knockoff goods, like watches, handbags, clothing. If it's made in China, chances are there's a copy made in China as well. Even for things not in China...
But really, here's what Hello!Online says (http://www.hello-online.org/index.php?act=helloonline&CODE=news&topic=69):
Officially, Morning Musume's cds are not available in china, but there're lots of mm-fan clubs for some reason. Tsunku says that they're the important key persons to open a gate for Asia and they will open up the door of the new evolution of mm and Hello! Project.
The other mm members will see them for the first time on the hello project tour in Kanagawa harmony-hall Zama.
Does anyone know if that's a Summer concert?
-
I'm guessing it's before their debut/Yossie's grad. It'd be kinda weird seeing them for the first time and it's also the first time you have to perform with them.
-
I was under the impression the Japanese were fairly xenophobic. Sure hope these new talents don't get too much flak for being gaijin.
-
LOL CHUN LI FTMFW!!!
-
I...don't know how I feel about this. Tsunku has left me speechless, once again.
-
From the Sanspo article:
- They will debut at Yossi's grad concert on May 6th, (Nyago also posted this above)
SCREW YOU, TSUNKU.
-
Given how H!P has been treating her lately, maybe they'll send her off to join a Chinese group.
:( i hope not.... i was waiting for aibon. i miss aibonnnnnnnnnn~!
SCREW YOU, TSUNKU.
HAHA COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF!~ :D
-
AHH! What the heck? Totally weird and unexpected! I wonder how the girls are taking it since they only found out a day before we did !
-
oh my...MoMusu chinese members...:ONscared:
but like I said on the other forums...compared from the typical chinese girls I see everyday...both of them are :ONglasses: cute, especially Junjun:ONluvluv1: at first glance you wouldn't know she's chinese unless she talk infront of you...on the other hand, Linlin looks a bit like Takahashi Ai on one angle...:ONbingo:
since this is the year of Asia for MoMusu & H!P...and Tsunku had 2 new chinese members for MoMusu...if the great mind (o rly) of Tsunku decides to add new members...from what asian country would that be? :ONdunno: *imagines an Indian or Pakistan or Vietnamese MoMusu member* :ONfrustrated:
-
The other mm members will see them for the first time on the hello project tour in Kanagawa harmony-hall Zama.
Does anyone know if that's a Summer concert?
That's the first stop on the Sexy 8Beat tour. I'm guessing they'll be creeping backstage like Aika did.
-
if the great mind (o rly) of Tsunku decides to add new members...from what asian country would that be?
Korea, definitely. I wouldn't mind members from other (Asian?) countries too, but it seems it would upset too much people.
-
omg wow thats really good news! well for me that is? I'm really liking it, but of them are cute girls. I'm just really glad the rumors werent something bad. I was reading wikipedia, and it said they are joining as exchanging students, are they gonna be perminent members, or just temporary?
-
*imagines an Indian or Pakistan or Vietnamese MoMusu member*
I quite doubt that could ever eventuate. Asia is pretty much dominated by China, Japan and Korea, and quite recently (despite a long history of conflict)they've become kind of obsessed with one another (language, music and that).
About the new members, I don't think they can speak Japanese properly. I guess we'll see whether they can learn it in the few months before their first public appearance. Perhaps this also means there'll be Chinese versions of MM songs (like how Maki -> Korea).
-

Chun Li (I refuse to call her Junjun, and Chun Li from SF is awesome XD) looks very chinese if you ask me o_o if not chinese, atleast taiwanese(which really isn't much different appearance wise >_>)
I just watched the clip of her singing. She sucks, but already has more potential in her voice than Aika, Koha, or Sayumi. With some training she'll probably sound a lot like Yossi (which really isn't saying much >_>), which is probably why she's being put into the group. Once Yossi leaves, there won't be anyone with a deeper voice.
If Tsunku is going to take over asia he should look into the philippines, there are quite a bit of cute filipino girls with nice, powerful voices.
People are hating this idea too much, the girls are damn cute! In regards to H!P I'm pretty much to the point where anything cute added to them is positive. I really don't give a shit about talent anymore, and it's just an added bonus now. It's all about the kawaii!!!
-
I refuse to call her Junjun, and Chun Li from SF is awesome XD

Yeah, what he said.

:D Fresh meat! I, for one, am excited.

I would agree on that!~ especially looking over the Philippines...it's my country! hehehehehe!~
Korea, definitely. I wouldn't mind members from other (Asian?) countries too, but it seems it would upset too much people.
well at least other nationalities will have a chance to join MoMusu/H!P...

i see. :) there might be a possibility of having chinese versions of MoMusu songs... :)
-
i dunno know what to think about, i'm neither happy or angry about this. pretty much neutral until i see them perform and after some training. i saw the video of Li chun, she........not good. but after some intensive training, she'll do good, Tsunku and H!P have that kind of power. as for Qian Lin, since she been a part of H!P eggs, i guess she'll fit in with them more, knowing lil japanese and being in japan for quite a while. seen their pics, li chun does not look 19, she look as old as aika, younger than koharu. Even Qian Lin looks older than her ( my opinion). but they're all cute so..........
And if anyone dare to give Li Chun any beef.... she'll just Chun Li'ed (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g206/BballBullsChick/chun-li.gif) their ass. ( get it? :D sorry can't resist XD )
what funny is that she auditioned in the Super Girl contest or whatever and became one of the top 50, but didn't enter the final. YET.... she have this great opportunity to join MoMusu, Japan's top all-girl pop group as well as one of Asia with a significant following. think about this, even though she only got into the top 50, she'll a great exposure and already become more famous than the finalist and the winner themselves. even though it only may be a short time, it's a step through the door.
Tsunku definitely have big ambitions, they conquered Japan before, now aiming at Asia and Eventually the world. soon he'll have auditions and many exchange students from all around the world. He'll form H!P groups everywhere. H!P one of the few talent agency that is aiming for the world after just being in existence in just 10 short years. Althought, if u think about it, if H!P wanna stand out, that what they have to do. they'll probably sing and release music within their respective languages as well as pay tribute to H!P Japan. like joining annual events ( i.e. sport festival) , H!P shuffles, such and such, and anything else they'll come up with in the future.
As for the debut on Yossi's graduation, i agree. It's yossi day, and nothing should steal her thunder ( although it is the boss' decision). but maybe yossi won't mind, she is so great in many way, beautiful, cute, pretty, friendly, funny, charismatic, lovable, and just a great role model.

Is this what Morning Musume has come down to? Just pure "kawaii-ness?" I think the Golden Era was MORE than that. The members were all "kawaii" in their own way, but a lot of the times - it was more than looks. It seems that what MM has come down to nowadays is pure physical "kawaii-ness." There's got to be more than that. Isn't that how goto took our breath away (at least for the goto fans)? Or Yasuda, Nakazawa, Iida fans?
No wonder the Taka from Utaban said that the current musume aren't satisfying enough. Sadly, as much as I like the members of MM as they are now... something's missing. It's not as "dynamic" and "fun" as it used to be.
Yossie's done an incredible job with MM - esp given what has happened to her recently... I was looking forward to MM under Miki's leadership. I'm not so sure about it now....
And - why does it seem like Tsunku is oh-so-impressed by two years of piano? That's pretty low-standard I would say...
-
Is this what Morning Musume has come down to? Just pure "kawaii-ness?"
Yes...
Those little qualifications are just things to fill up a resume or application and really doesn't mean shit. We all remember how our town volley ball captain did don't we.
Momusu and H!P in general has been boring, they're not going to get more popular no matter what they do, I just wanna see a bunch of cute girls.
Thinking negative about the stuff that happens won't make anything better either, and will only leave you bitter or dissappointed. If you really want to enjoy H!P, just think positive about everything that happens
-
The first girl is kinda cute, but the second one kinda looks like Ayaka lol.
-
Thinking negative about the stuff that happens won't make anything better either, and will only leave you bitter or dissappointed. If you really want to enjoy H!P, just think positive about everything that happens
If this isn't the start of a downfall (worst case scenario)
Damn! Can't get the coconuts musume scenario out of my head!
-
:D Fresh meat! I, for one, am excited.
yeah I'm pretty happy bout this too.
-
I guess this is the news...
personally, I have no comment on that...
just wait and see how everything goes...
I don't think Momusu will be another coconut Musume...
generally speakin' they have more fans than the Coconut Musume...
as a Chinese I am happy for the girls (have a chance to exchange the culture...sounds lame but I am always happy to see culture exchange)...
as a momusu fan...not too exciting...
good or bad...just wait...
-
Since Linlin is/was an Egg, she probably speaks Japanese, right? Coconuts Musume skirted by without much Japanese since they were a main act so to speak. I can't imagine they would have an Egg who didn't understand Japanese.
And Junjun is only credited with a basic understanding of English and no mention of Japanese.
Regardless, I'm cautiously optimistic about this new development. Whatever is planned, I hope it's going to be great.
-
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but this has to be the fastest growing thread in JPH!P history!!!!
-
Oh WOW XD
<3
-
This is too crazy- I mean, if they were gonna import I thought it was gonna be from Korea. Then, BAM! Someguy inside H!P goes "Why don't we get a chinese girl just for fun?" LOL.
I gotta say though, Li Chun is hella cute. I'm thinking Aika's gonna be at the same level of cute/hot at 18 or 19 (though no one's gonna beat Tanaka for uteness).
-
and interesting conversation I had with my Japanese friend:
らブリー : me
らブリー
oh my gosh
guess what
Koji
huh?
らブリー
they just added
two chinese girls
to morning musume
Koji
really?
らブリー
tsunku was like all of a sudden, "i am going to add these girls to musume, yoroshiku ne."
yeah
Koji
huh...weird
らブリー
i like
go away from my computer
for
six hours
and this happens
i was like SHOCKED
Koji
yea, that's surprising
らブリー
one of them sucks at singing and does not even speak japanese >.>
Koji
he probably wants chinese market
らブリー
yeah he does
because they are not doing so well in Japan right now
so actually it is pretty smart
so he is trying to open up the "Asian" market or something
Koji
yea, but at least get some one that can sing...
らブリー
yeah i am pretty ticked off about that
oh my gosh, i am kind of mad. they are going to debut at yoshizawa's graduation concert...
that is going to take away from her leaving i think. jerk.
Koji
that stinks
らブリー
i can see the japanese fans getting ticked, they were mad about the idea of kago coming back on yoshizawa's graduation thing-and now these two
oh gosh, and morning musume had no idea either-but tsunku apparently has been planning this for a long time. he had said at the beginning of the year the new theme this year was "asia"
ok anyway i am done
Koji
hmm, i hope he knows what he's doing...
らブリー
me too
i hope they get back a little bit of their old spark back
because totally モーむす。の時代も終わりました
like after
2 albums ago
ahaha
Koji
well, the reason i said that was because china doesn't really like japan so they might just completely ignore it...
らブリー
yeah
and he even said...he was willing to open up to korean members joining too
i was like, way to just stab yourself in the back
Koji
yea, korea's a lot better then china but some people sitll don't like japan...no one in eastern asia really likes japan
らブリー
i just figure they all hate eachother.
Koji
yea, pretty much. north korea and china are together though
and north korea's everyone's enermy
らブリー
well yeah
Koji
taiwan hates china
らブリー
AH HA!
i think china is going to take over pretty soon >.> at least that is what the news has been saying
if morning musume doesn't get there firstl
Koji
yea, probably...that's the reason taiwan hates china
they want indipendence
north korea scares me...with that nutcase leading the country, i don't know what they're going to do
らブリー
probably send spys into japan through momusu and then bomb everything or something
worst case scenario of course. ahahha
Koji
lol
らブリー
or maybe he is in cohoots with tsunku
Koji
hah, maybe
-
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but this has to be the fastest growing thread in JPH!P history!!!!
hahaha...i guess it is the shock...
-
I'm looking forward to this so much, I can't wait for them to meet. Maybe Niigaki will want to learn Chinese too now and start saying "niihao~" and "sheshe" to them and it will be ADORABLE!!!!!! Maybe they'll all do it! I know I would! I'd walk around with a Japanese-Chinese electronic dictionary and plug in whatever phrase I want to say at the moment and do it!
god. I'm obsessed with them now and I don't even know them yet.
oh, and I'm not worried about them knowing Japanese. Compared to us idiot Americans and Canadians and other native English speakers, Korean and Chinese can actually get the hang of Japanese pretty quickly and easily. (especially Koreans because the grammar is similar and there are 5 vowels instead of the 8 or whatever) Two of the exchange students with me in Kobe were Chinese, that were going to a Canadian university, and they had a better command of Japanese than English.
They'll fit right in. I can't wait!!!
-
Leah Dizon didn't speak Japanese and look at her and she's doin' fine. She's learning now though. These girls can do the same.
-

Leah Dizon didn't get into a symbol of "Japan-ness" like MM
-
Leah Dizon didn't get into a symbol of "Japan-ness" like MM
RIGHT THERE with you reyfer.
-
I read that he still add one more member from Korea?!?!? How cool is that!!!! hahaha if that's true I can't wait to see how Korea-Japan make another great rel through music ^^
-
If this isn't the start of a downfall (worst case scenario)
Damn! Can't get the coconuts musume scenario out of my head!
You also have to realize Coconuts Musume kinda sucked ass >_>
Plus they didn't really have the kawaii factor :P
-
You will be assimilated. We will add your distinctiveness to our own.
I hope we don't have to bomb their country anytime soon.
-
I read that he still add one more member from Korea?!?!? How cool is that!!!! hahaha if that's true I can't wait to see how Korea-Japan make another great rel through music ^^
if it's true...that's something to look forward to :)
Leah Dizon didn't speak Japanese and look at her and she's doin' fine. She's learning now though. These girls can do the same.
at least for a fellow-Filipino like Leah Dizon, I'm very impressed of the way she speaks Japanese...she's learning bit by bit...as for the new MoMusu members, I think they can do the same...and besides it takes time before you learn and go with the flow...
-
Tsunku is planning to take over the whole Asia:ONwahaha:
The next thing you know he will be putting Philippians or Indians in Hello!Project...(let's hope not, that would be crazy):ONbadluck:
Anyway, I am just really looking forward to see how these 2 girls fit in and can change the face of Morning Musume:ONkekeke:
-
nice FOBS IN MOMUSU FTW! :D
-
yeah mee too, but if tsunku really gonnal add another member from korea, she will be placed in what GEN??? 8th or 9th???
-
^ he'll most likely make her a 9th gen since the 2 newly addition's to the 8th gen was a shocker already, i'm gonna def be at the show, i really wanna see what happens. :P
-
^I don't think he will add any new members soon...honestly. the fans can only take so much shock.
Aibon. Aika. 30 min's of hello morning. Yossie. Melon Kinenbi Single. Two Chinese girls in Momusu.
-
^AH i actually forgot about the 30 minutes of Hello Morning ToT. Maybe they cut it down because they are bringing in the two chinese girls. hehe
-
Did anyone see this?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=9vv9f5HEKU0
Junjun's audition?
Her voice...I dont know...~.~
-
Hey, i thought the same thing with Aika's audition...crap...a lot of members auditions weren't that great, but Tsunku sees crap that we don't see, or somethin. Here's hoping that she improves :D
JunJun 4 Lyfe!
-
^
Yeah, you are right, we have to trust Tsunku:ONcool1:
ps. so many JunJun fans already lol
-
yeah mee too, but if tsunku really gonnal add another member from korea, she will be placed in what GEN??? 8th or 9th???
who knows...it's Tsunku he can do and say anything he likes...
but since it is the theme of my Asia...
I am guessing the 8th Gen.
-
Leah Dizon didn't speak Japanese and look at her and she's doin' fine. She's learning now though. These girls can do the same.
All she had to do was show her tits and ass. These girls will actually have to do something that you know, takes effort.
-
Its a shocker!!! 2 new gals joing MM???? Wow........its not that they are no good ( coz we haven seen their talents) but......Aika just joined MM n Yossie about to leave MM...I thought Tsukun will add a few of the finalist from 8 gen auditions....Didn't expect he add gals from China!!! OH MY!!!! Are they in for long or just an exchange student? OH MY.....if Ai-chan, Gaki-san, Mikitti and Reina are going graduated soon I'm gona lost hope in MM!!!!! ( i remember Tsukun praising them b4)
-
Reaction from a dear friend:
"MORNING MUSUME IS NOT A HIGH SCHOOL WHERE YOU CAN PLAY YOUR ROLE OF PERVETED PRINCIPLE"
:D

well dunno for sure bout that either but that's what the article said, there's still one more member from korea hahaha
I really want to see miki and ai face when tsunku spread the news :ONkekeke:
-

I really want to see miki and ai face when tsunku spread the news :ONkekeke:
yeah, it is not just a member but a foreigner...
since Miki will be the leader...she needs to take the role of helping them...
-
^ lol knowing Mikitty's attitude, she's not going to like the news at all, but she probably knows about it alrdy, and as for Aichan...lol she probably would want to graduate it asap. XD only my predictions, time will tell, but i can sense it right now. :P
-
My summary comment: in H!P ok, in MM no not really, but waiting how it works out.
-
My summary comment: in H!P ok, in MM no not really, but waiting how it works out.
exactly. i double that summary.
-
Great, now Yonsama is gonna join Musume and Company.
There goes the neighborhood!!
-
well dunno for sure bout that either but that's what the article said, there's still one more member from korea hahaha
I really want to see miki and ai face when tsunku spread the news :ONkekeke:
Nope, what the article says is "it is said that the addition of members from other asian nations, such as South Korea, is possible in the future"
-
Aaaah I c...
But if it's true that's gonna be soo cool, and without any clue we'll see momusu perf in korea along side with Boa en Super Junior hahaha COOL!!!!
Ai-chan's face when she's in shock soooo Priceless....that's what I wanted to see hahaha
And mikitty's Death Glare while staring to the newbies hehehe
-
Wait, JunJun's 19 right?
............I predict she will be popular here.
-
So this is what Tsunku means by "ASIA"...
Well, Junjun seems hawt~:ONwahaha: :ONhehehe:
-
Great, now Yonsama is gonna join Musume and Company.
There goes the neighborhood!!
:ON@_@: I knew it, i just knew it...

I like the idea but do they speak japanese ? If I remember correctly BOA had a hard time studying japanese when she debuted . Maybe we have chinese MM song or chinese catchphrase in the lyrics lol. And China is a big new market for :pimp: up the sales
-

If you read earlier you will see that Linlin has been in Japan for about a year with Eggs and is probably got a good amount down, and JunJun doesn't speak it. ^^;;
-
I was under the impression the Japanese were fairly xenophobic. Sure hope these new talents don't get too much flak for being gaijin.
That's what I'm kinda worried about too. Personally I haven't decided one way or another whether I like this news or not but I certainly don't hold anything against the two girls. There are still many in Japan who hold bad blood towards China and vice versa. I'm very curious to find out how the 2 channel reaction to this news has been because even though there have been foreigners in H!P, they've never been part of the main group and many did not last very long so there has never been a reason for the wota to get really uppity over it, but now who knows?
-
meh, I doubt its going to be that big of a deal. I see this as being only a temporary thing. Based on the negative reaction (aside from the prevs), I'd imagine that the moment sales start to drop, so will these two girls. And if for some reason they do make it through, I'm pretty sure the company is going to go out of there way to cram the Japanese language into them so the whole "can't speak Japanese" is probably going to be a non issue by the time they premiere. That or they're going to loop the X-files intro theme every time they appear on tv. (btw, what is that all about?)
-
haha what a surprise. two chinese joining MM. its gonna be interesting to see how they'll do. its gonna take a long while before they actually appear wit the girls right due to the language barrier?
i guess i am one of few supporter out of this. maybe because i am chinese myself. plus, Jun Jun is cute and is around my age!!haha i guess ill start checking up MM again. ever since rika left the group, i rarely follow them anymore.
-
Wow I went to read comments elsewhere and the closed-mindedness of people is just overwhelming
I'm still excited about this and I hope they're a permanent attachment to MM :P Sorry but Japan has already given up on the current MM... The only way Momusu can become bigger again is if instead of being Japan's daughters, they become Asia's daughters... With that being said, I still want the majority to be Japanese, but you know. Like I said before, to me it doesn't matter where a girl comes from if she's kewl. Japanese ent. industry seems to be more acceptive of some gaijinism these days, too, so it's like finally UFA does something modern/trendy before it's out of fashion.
So yeah I'm feeling excited about this and anxious to see the new girls with Momusu!!
(This is mostly about the non-jph!p posts, we seem to have saner people here)
I hate it that people are predicting doom, AS ALWAYS, even before the girls have debuted! Omg try to think POSITIVELY for once k?? All the negative pessimistic whine whine crap is just... Ridiculous! I don't care if you'll "stop following MM" now, good riddance I say if you can't handle two cute Chinese girls! Good riddance indeed, one less whiner to annoy us! And the whole "I'll stop following MM after 6th gen/Koharu leaves!" LOL so you really are dead certain that in the next 2-5 years you will not like the Chinese girls even for a second (because 2-5 years is how long it'll take for 6th & 7th gen to leave)? Yeah good luck with that, you prejudiced idiot
LOL ok that was a bit harsh, but it wasn't targeted at anyone in particular. I'm just so sick of all the complaints. And yeah NOT HERE, this thread is still reasonable. But when you read some place with 98% negative comments, it gets on my nerves. :D
-
Anything is bearable as long as MM won't be cancelled and gain some salespoints - it's soooo sad to look on info on theppn; they're cute, if they have some character plans on them - so the better; maybe MM would be in Utaban once more .... looking forward to it
-
^no worry shi, I'm kind of on your line too... like we really don't know what will happen if Chun and Lin joined MM, we should look forward to it (whether it disappoints you or not) and see if anything exciting will happen.
By the way, I'm not sure if this is what Tsunku trying to attempt, but everyone knows that recently Tsunku had Gocchin (along with other idols like w-inds) to go to Beijing and did a concert that promoted "Chinese-Japanese foreign relationship".
Maybe Tsunku is doing this for the favour of Japan (personal will or asked by Japanese government??? I DON'T KNOW). By sending idols to different Asia countries or recruiting members from those countries, Tsunku is trying to help people in Japan as well as other countries to accept more on each other's culture.
ya... this sounds very political but somehow I see this will have an effect and perhaps a good effect on the tension there is between Japan and other countries in Asia.
:D
-
Agreed wholeheartedly, shi.
Especially all the (vaguely and not-so-vaguely) racist remarks you see around are mind-boggling.
Change is good, and does this spell disaster? Hah. The same doomsayers have been on it after every major change or surprise Tsunku has thrown at us, for years. Even if the ship is sinking, it's the slowest god damn sinking I've seen.
Some people say this is just a gimmick, but everything about H!P is based on gimmicks anyway. If it gets a new kind of fanbase on the cost of losing a few narrowminded fucks, good! I really, really don't see anything bad coming out of this.
And to everyone making those racist remarks... go fuck yourselves. ^____^
-
This is the best thing to happen to MM in a very long time. Super smart move by SoonkP~
-
I'm glad this place hasn't degenerated into racist and xenophobic comments. Everyone is calm about their views on it and that's why I like this place; there's no bullshit.
Rock on JPH!P. Rock the fuck on.
-
lol
that was really a surprise as i read this news today
but those 2 really look cute so i hope they'll make it
-
With the clip, Junjun isn't bad per se. She definitely has potential to improve, and I think she definitely will by the time she debuts singing-wise, but her tone of voice is actually pretty good. It's just how she ends her notes (slightly under pitch) that makes her sound bad, I think...?
-
Wota can't do nothing but see how their power is falling. This news are amazing stuff for China. UFA is gonna care about a million potential fans over five thousand wotas anyday. Aya and Yuko have lots of fans in there, Goto makes Korea girls go mad, and MM gets two China girls. From now on, I can see UFA looking at those countries' music charts before looking at Oricon or caring about wotas other than keeping the loliness of C-ute for them. For once I like how is this all being managed. :)
-
I just hope Tsunku knows what he's doing.
But I fear that this move will make japanese fans angry. I hope I'm wrong though. If this happens (that sales go down in Japan) let's hope they can compensate this by gaining chinese market.
-
Well.....I think this may just work.
Yes, the new members are a suprise, but a nice suprise (for me anyway). I am sure they can speak some Japanese, can't see the fact they are Chinese being a problem.
Good luck to them! :D
-
I dont think theres much to worry about.
If they not popular they will get ditched
if they are popular they will likely get spun off and made into their own unit.
if they are semi popular they can stay in momusu and take the middle ground with fans.
-
I'm glad this place hasn't degenerated into racist and xenophobic comments...
I had to read about 10 new pages worth of posts since yesterday, and besides the people who ask the same question over and over again because they're too fuckin' lazy or dumb to read what's been already posted, i'm pretty sure i did spot at least 4 or 5 comments that can be considered has racist in this thread... :-|

Yeah there were some here, too, but it's still little compared to other places. I read some thread with over 100 comments and it was like 80% racist, lol!! We ain't got a problem here at least yet (for two years that's kinda well done).
:MKdigger:
(this is like my favourite smilie, I need to use it more)
I love my new sig!!!!
-
i admire tsunku's courage for making this move...it could give momusu a whole new level of stardom...or hurt the group badly that he might have to start morning musume from scratch.
on the positive side this is goin to be the craziest change on momusu and i'm looking forward to how things will unfold.
good one tsunku for thinking out of the box but stay away from crack dude.
-
Fuck I'm gone for a day and this pops up with 17 pages? Too lazy to read it all. XD
PS: MIKI has more girls to grope :yay:
And thus, she goes international. :D

And thus, she goes international. :D
I have no damn idea how this whole thing will turn out. I'm not Japanese, I'm not in Japan. I don't know this shit. I want to see them do well, but I wouldn't care if they blew up or had just enough fans to stay around.
Business in the "Bashing/Flaming" is about to pick up.

JapanZone piece
Morning Musume Goes International
Call it a new era in Japan-China relations. The man behind Morning Musume has decided to give the group a more international look, and producer Tsunku (38 ) announced yesterday that the latest addition to the lineup will be two Chinese teenagers. The first audition was held in Beijing last year and included those who failed to qualify for the local "Super Girl" auditions. Chosen from that group was Li Chun , known as "Jun Jun". 16-year-old Qian Lin has been appearing on Chinese TV since she was in elementary school and was introduced to Tsunku through a friend. She has already appeared as a backing dancer on the Hello! Project national tour in January as is nicknamed "Lin Lin". Both girls need to take dance, vocal and Japanese language lessons, but judging from their photos, they will blend easily among the Japanese members. They will make their first appearance on the "Hello! Morning" show on TV Tokyo on March 18. Officially part of the 8th version of the lineup, which also includes the recently added Mitsui Aika (14), they will perform in front of fans for the first time at the May 6 concert which will mark the "graduation" of leader Yoshizawa Hitomi (21).
-
so they will appear at the concert where yossi grads..uh...hmm interesting..hope they do well :D
-
Tsunku: Hmm how do i create more happenings to fit into the Asia theme that i accidentally said when i was drunk...
Miki bangs the door open
Miki: Tsoonk, where are you !! Oh there you are. I'm beginning to run out of girls to grope in MM. You better get me fresh exotic targets or i'll post those gay pictures of yours that i secretely took!!
Tsunku:
after 10 minutes of thinking
Tsunku: ah-ha
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
and we know what happened
-
EHHHHHHHHHH?!?! They're appearing on this week's H!M?!?! Wait...does their appearance mean when Tsunku announces? Or are the new girls participating in the games with the current MM members? o.O
-
Thanks!
After 2007? Ohh, I really hope they stay.
That line is talking about stretching the group's activities to Asia, not necessarily about these girls remaining in MM after 2007
-

Ahh.. wishful thinking on my part. :< But there's still a chance, I hope.

America already has so many things, why should you get Morning Musume auditions, too? LOL try to survive with already having Japanese artists visiting your country, animecons with H!P merch, kinokuniyas or whatever they were etc. BAH~~
Ok before when I said I don't care where the girls are from, I meant East Asia. Not a random country like Argentina, Finland, Turkey, The United States, Italy, Denmark, Mexico...
-
I think it is for the the 10th Anniversary theme...
so they will probably not be in MM after 2007 or so...
but MM or H!P will probably remain in the Asia market...
if Tsunku ends the "student exchange" well...or if he ever want to end it...
but after a day of shock...
I actually think during the time they are here...
it will be quite interesting...
(but I am still not going for the whole idea...)

:bounce: I can't wait for this week's haromoni !!

I think I'll like JunJun more than LinLin. I wish they would make better nicknames for them though..
I think it would have been more interesting if they held a Asia audition for Morning Musume.. I think that way it would attract more MM fans

PONI-CHAN! Nice!
Li Chun is a major cutie.
-
Wait, JunJun's 19 right?
............I predict she will be popular here.
Way to be late...
Her pictures alone shows her potential in H!P. She's cute as hell and knows how to pose for the camera. She's already one of my favorite n00bs.
The rest is not directed to anyone in particular:
Why are people making their own rules of who can be in H!P only, tsunku makes those rules. If he wants to be a perverted principle in a high school, let him do it. I don't see any harm in it. And only a bunch of good shit to come :D Just because his decisions seem random to you, doesn't mean he just pulled these things out of his ass. Tsunku as a music producer is a genius and I doubt he would make any decisions he feels would destroy the biggest money maker he has ever created.
I just wanted to add... very little of the girls that ever made it into Momusu had good singing talent during the auditions, if not none. The only one that impressed me was aibon, and that's also considering her age and how unbelievably cute she was... Aichan and Miki had good voices but their singing sucked. We all know the really good singers never make it into the group anyways...

Linlin as 16 y.o. Ayaka look-a-like? yes please :)
I thought it over and I state as follows - great idea. to hell with wotas and their xenophobic minds
-
well...it's better than callin' their real name...
cus usually foreigners have hard time pronouncing Chinese name...
and our name just end up soundin' the same...
Japanese people already think Chinese people have names like pandas, they don't need any help reinforcing that from tsunku. It ain't hard to learn how to say Li Chun and Qian Lin if you put a modicum of effort into it.
-
But JunJun sounds so cute.XD
-
The 2ch threads I looked at were pretty much divided like us. Well, I didn't go to morningcoffee or ainotane, but people were either like "Great, more girls I don't know" "xxxx is cuter than xxxx" "Wow, these girls are cute!" or "So Tsunku's so desperate that he had to go to China to get girls now? ww"
-
I went to the Morning Musume community on Mixi (a Japanese invitation-only social network site), and a lot of the wotas there liked them but many also were shocked about the sudden announcement. Some people made negative comments about Tsunku, even saying that they're counting down to the breakup of MoMusu. But others said that they are keeping a positive attitude and will wait and see how these girls will add to the group.
-

Fixed! :P

Now that I've had the opportunity read the whole thread, allow me to offer some thoughts. First of all, anyone who thinks this is random has obviously not been paying attention to h!p. Tsunku and UFA have been fostering the development of a fanbase in asia for years through special fanclub performances and cooperations with the Ministry of Tourism. If you think the h!p fanbase in china is anything like it is in the west (which is physically akin to a child with down syndrome) then you are sorely mistaken. It would take a good 20-50 more years of saturation before h!p would be able to make any overt moves in the west, but the environment in china is ripe for development and the seeds have already been sown. The youth of china, particularly in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Tianjin, have grown up side-by-side with Japanese Anime, Manga, and Japanese-influenced music and the self-imposed embargo on chinese sales have only served to stimulate the potential fanbase.
With withering sales in Japan due to a combination of the internet, wota-aversion, and a general nationwide musical depression, h!p needs to do something drastically different in this, their 10th year, in order to survive. While idol music, and the music industry in general, is suffering and stuggling in Japan, the music industry in China is booming with a huge influx of talent and a major increase in production talent. The potential market in China is staggering, and Chinese youth are very receptive to anything Japanese. The addition of Chinese members to Morning Musume is a necessary step in h!p's expansion into China and the rest of Asia. This is not a sign that momusu will become an international group, though that -is- a possibility, what it does is show the Chinese that h!p is serious about expanding and that it is not something they will pursue half-heartedly or abuse as a gimmick. Of course, should this move backfire then the girls -will- be transformed into a gimmick and then shipped back home at the end of 2007. However, I don't think that result is likely. Instead, what we will probably see is Li Chun and Qian Lin act as ambassadors for h!p in China and for China in Japan, developing a connecting between existing fanbases and establishing avenues to new ones. Once this is done, I think they will leave momusu and spearhead h!p's full expansion into China. On the internet negative voices are always louder than positive ones and shouldn't be used to judge the reaction of Japanese Fans and the Chinese Market. Instead, we will have to wait to see how this plays out and trust that Tsunku and UFA will be devoting 110% to make certain this works. Is it a gamble? Yes, but the potential profits are too great to ignore.
Now to address some other concerns. First of all, I don't think you should worry about Li Chun's singing abilities. She does have some pitch instability problems and her ear could use a little work, but these are simple problems to fix and her natural tone is very promising. In regards to concerns that momusu will suddenly start singing in broken Chinese, this is unfounded as all foreign members of h!p have had to sing in Japanese and most have learned to speak Japanese as well, particularly Simmin and Ruru. It's already been stated that they won't be debuting on momusu's April release, so they will have plenty of time to develop their singing skills and japanese abilities. I doubt they'll be forced into a position where they'll be required to demonstrate a mastery of Japanese. Simple statements like "minna daisuki" and "ouenshite ne" will be enough to sate Japanese fans, and I sincerely doubt whether the majority of you would be able to distinguish between their accented Japanese and the standard Japanese that you've immersed yourself in despite complete and utter incomprehension.
Also, all this bullshit about Chinese and Japanese xenophobia is completely ridiculous. Are there people in Japan and China that hate each and want nothing to do with the other? Of course, but they're all relics of the 50s and 60s that don't have anything to do with the music industry or pop-culture of either nation. And if Irie Saaya is any indication, cute conquers racism.
And lastly, I imagine Simmin was a litmus test for this move to see how wota would react to a foreign h!p member. That she was 22 when she joined should've immediately signaled that she had as much chance at getting a solo debut as Yasuda Kei.
*EDIT* Just realized I forgot this. Quit bitching about Li Chun and Qian Li making their first public appearance during Yossi's graduation. Nearly every new morning musume member has debuted during another member's graduation. Goto did it right before Aya graduated, 4th gen did it during Sayaka's grad, 6th gen during Kei's grad, and Koharu during Rika's grad. They're only on stage long enough to say a quick introduction during what would normally be an MC and then they're gone. 4th gen performed the entire grad, but they were the exception. So you're upset that your favorite member won't get every possible second of attention during her graduation? Boo-friggin-hoo. Makoto had to share her graduation concert with Konno and it was even announced until the day of the concert! Besides, there's really no better time to introduce a new member than when an old one is leaving. It's the circle of life, idol-style. Get used to it or gtfo.

This would have been easier to tolerate if Tsunku had already announced some concrete plans for Aibon. That is a far more important matter for me. As far as I'm concerned, Tsunku got his priorities wrong. Until I hear something definite about Aibon, I'm not ready to care about this new crazy scheme of his.
Also, if would have been better if Tsunku had chosen Kikkawa Yu along with Aika to join MM. That would have balanced things better, with two new Japanese girls vs two Chinese girls.
As it stands, I cannot feel favorable toward this development. I don't think those two are particularly cute, either. OK they are cute, but not super-cute (like aibon is) enough to warrant Tsunku choosing them over, say, Yu.

The announcement was supposed to be in regards to Morning Musume. So that leaves Aibon out. You just sound like a desperate Aibon fan. Priorities wrong? Aibon is very lucky she got to come back into H!P (I missed her too, lol).
Kikkawa Yu lost to Aika, enough said. Nothin no one can do about it. But I do like your idea of the balance thing.

I laughed at this post because I thought it was stupid, then I felt bad. Then I re-read it and didn't feel bad anymore.
Aibon is not in MM. This announcement was to do with MM, not Aibon. MM will ALWAYS have higher priorities over anyone else in H!P in the eyes of Tsunku/UFA. Without MM, there wouldn't even BE an H!P.
Why do you blame him for not doing anything about Aibon? How do these girls affect it? Whether Aibon was suspended or not, something like this would have happened anyway. Aibon doesn't affect what happens in MM. Yossie would still be graduating. Aika would still be joining. Aibon has NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS at all, so please stop blaming Tsunku for choosing MM over Aibon, when Aibon is not as popular/important as MM to begin with plzkthnxbai.

Yeah I feel the same way. I want her back in action. Come on SHE is ASIAN too.
And he cares about it because it is important to him. >.> momusu is past it's era anyway...

I find it funny how people who aren't Japanese get so into being weeaboo/wapanese
that they take on the Japanese attitudes of descrimination against the chinese as
if they were Japanese.
Quite funny.

thats true, but people have their ways of thinking, you can't change that, gotta let things flow by itself :)

It's unfortunate this has turned into a nationality issue. I do believe that some people were probably misunderstood or things got a little exaggerated, and some people (not all) are getting upset over mere opinions. I for one could care less where they were from. I was getting used to Morning Musume and I like adding new members when it's time. This was just too soon after Aika, I think. It wouldn't have been near as shocking if he added the two at the same time.
And the girls are cute, yeah. I'll admit that. I didn't care much for JunJun's audition, but hey... it's an audition. What else can you expect. I don't know anything about LinLin, really so I can't judge. I'm just not sure how bringing in new members right now is going to help/hurt Morning Musume.
-

It would have been better for Aika also, if Yu joined together. They could have become good friends, like girls of the same generation tend to be. Like Aibon and Nono. My another favorite is Sayumi and Eri, who are also very close friends. Watching their friendship is part of the fun of being a MM fan. Aika must feel somewhat lonely, being the only one 8-gen musume. (Koharu is different. She somehow seems a kind of girl who doesn't need that kind of friendship.)
Anyway, the two Chinese girls will no doubt be close to each other. I wish for Aika that she also has a "buddy" like that. Yu could have been that. Even number is better than odd.
-
Yuu wasn't the only other 8th gen finalist.
And this isn't the first time there's only been one member chosen for a generation.
Look at Maki. She was, like, uber-popular, got on well with members, etc.
Look at Koharu. A lot of people don't like her, but she got the anime acting thing. Need I remind you of Balalaika?
Koharu and Maki have had the chance to shine, because they don't have other people overshadowing them. If Yuu/Minami/Sumire had won as well as Aika, then it would be all about Aika and Y/M/S, not just Aika. I think that while two members would have added more variety, one member gives the new girl a chance to show her true colors, whereas with the generations of ~4 members, two will be overshadowed, and the other two will be mega-popular. An example is 5th gen. I don't think I need to say anything.
-
Need I remind you of Balalaika?
Ahaha please don't!
-
I wub you JB!!!! ^______________^

One of my students mentioned this to me at work today, we ended up talking about it for the whole lesson. I love that I get paid for talking about H!P at times :p But she was under the impression that most people honestly wouldn't care. Either in the sense that they don't care about Momusu in general, or that most young people wouldn't mind what country they come from anyway.
T'was an interesting discussion in any case
-
Just some stupid personal thoughts about this news and the thread:
1. Coconuts Musume x Taiyo No Ciscomoon part 2. Ouch.
2. 2 chinese girls in MM. Tsunku is really making a gamble, since he could have easily made a new mini-group. But is instead putting his A team on the table. his courage is admirable. XD
3. BOA, and now Shinwa are doing ok. But as a JPOP fan, i really wanted to keep hearing japanese people singing japanese songs. On the other end, Teriyaki Boyz and english rap. I guess all music is universal, so anything goes as long as you like it. :o
4. Remembering Tetsuya Komura's Asia plan. With Suzuki Ami etc. Half have totally left showbusiness, most weren't anywhere popular. scared.
5. 10th anniversary. 1 year exchange student plan theory. So it may be temp? OK, this makes me much calmer.
6. If it's 10th anniversary, I'd rather have older members join back for only the year. Like Nacchi, or Maki to make a reflection of the past. Ok, me dreaming here (well, at least I'm not asking for Sayaka Ichii ).
7. I was happy seeing Koharu's success through 06, inadvertently helping MMs popularity that little bit. I really don't expect sales would change in China/HK etc just because 2 chinese members are added (better diplomatic relations... maybe for the MM fanbases, yeah!). Instead, I'm anticipating the chemistry and growth of these 3 new members. (and miki groping, naturally) :jerk:

The amount of thinly-veiled racism and Uncle Tom'ism on some of the other forums is utterly disguisting. This forum has been ok, but there still has been a few questionable posts here and there.
If "Chinese" was replaced with "Black" or "Hispanic" in some of the statements being made, there'd be a huge uproar and no question as to whether the content was racist or not.
Oh don't get me even started on the hilarity of the so called "Wapanese", "Japanophile" crowd and their calls for the "Yamato" racial purity of Morning Musume.
-
I heard about that. I'm so happy they are going to be in Morning musume.:) Maybe they will teach them Japanese.
-
Tsunku said he theme for the 10th anni was Asia and I expected more 'exchange students' yes we didn't think they'd be thrust into MM but I'm sure they'll be fine.
I mean poni-chan(still like calling her that lol) has probably learnt japanese from training as an EGG so it'd only the be junjun whom we don't know about.
Also, apparently the song junjun sang actually sounds like how she sang it, so maybe she's better than it gives her credit for??
Either way i'm looking forward to seeing tomorrow's H!M ^^
-

Well, well. I have NO idea what you are talking about. As far as I understand, all of 5th gen girls are fairly popular. I guess Ai Takahashi and Konno were the more popular ones, whereas Risa was probably the least popular, relatively speaking. But "overshadowed"? Who overshadowed who?? Of course you could say that Tahahshi's talent overshadows everybody else, but popularity-wise?
Anyway, for me, single girl generations are exceptions. The best generations are multi-girl ones, like 4th, 6th, or even 2nd, with Mari and Kei (Sayaka quit early, so I don't know much about her), who by the way are also very close friends. I prefer variety, and I like close ties between the same-gen girls.
-
let me just get this staright, they know how to speak japanese right? cuz if they dont, they'd probably have a little trouble along the way.
-

hahaha...that is a cool idea...

One of my friends from Osaka just sent me an email, and he says he's been talking to other fans about the new girls, and the positive or neutral reactions outweight the negative ones.... and he also says that one of the positive things some japanese fans see here is that, given the japanese national pride, having two foreigners in the group is going to drive the rest of the girls to be BETTER, just so they won't be overshadowed by the gaijins.

i guess thats a good thing? lol XD

I just saw some clip from HM... So at least, Linlin can speak some Japanese, eh? What about Junjun? Can she speak Japanese at all?
-
From the looks of it, she doesn't speak any. LinLin was translating to her and for her whilst talking to Yossie.
-
I guess she just need to work hard on it...
ppl who have the experience of learnin' a new language,
knows that at the beginning it is just "HARD"...to put it in a simple term...
you can't really express yourself...
you can't have a translator everywhere you go...
but I guess all the MM members understand that,too...
-
To all those who say that they will have a hard time learning japanese, because "...I have been studying for put a number here years and still can't talk properly" remember something: learning japanese at a school in Los Angeles, or London, is not the same as learning it in Japan, being surrounded by the language, and being in a way forced to learn because, as said, that language is everywhere you go. I talk from experience. I learned in six months living in Italy what my cousin took two years studying at an italian language school in Venezuela.

EXACTLY! Plus, they're Chinese. They have kanji recognition and some similar vocabulary between the two languages, so it's like English speakers learning a romance language or German. They'll probably learn it twice as fast as an English speaker would in the same situation. It's not going to be another Coconuts Musume.
-
Yep. I imagine they'll have some pretty good tutors too.
Still, it's going to be a rush to get them ready to introduce themselves to the fans by Yossi's grad.

well, yeah...
the best way to learn a new language is to throw yourself into that country...
there is no doubt about it...
plus, I guess there is not much time for them anyway...
since, they will be appearin' on stage in May...
-
I don't see there being a huge rush to get them all japan-ified for their concert debut, considering the introductions are always scripted anyways. Active command of the Japanese language isn't necessary if you're just gonna memorize a script. The only thing that matters is getting the pronunciation right.
Now if we were talking about their first talk show appearance, that would be different...

Chinese 8th gen Morning Musume announcement on HM 2007.03.18

Thanks Thunderbolt!

Thanks for the youtube link, Thunderbolt!
Funny how Yossie laughed at first. She was probably thinking "Yes! I'm so outta here!" :P

I don't find myself agreeing. Granted, some vocabulary is common between Japanese and Chinese (due to Japanese borrowing Kanji words as-is), but there's a lot that isn't and a lot that superficially looks the same but means something completely different.
Just because they happen to use the same characters doesn't mean the languages are related at all. It's often said that Chinese is actually closer to English in structure than Japanese. Japanese is only ever bundled together with Korean, which, while a fair comparison, is still a far cry from the similarities between Indo-European languages. Point is, I don't think they have any advantage or an easy start just because they're Chinese. No matter the language, learning a language is still going to require a lot of blood, sweat and tears.
I think LinLin will do OK, because she has been an Egg for a while so she has been in a 100% Japanese environment for a while. Junjun however.. if she can't speak Japanese at all yet, it'll be at least 2-3 years - even if you live in the country - before you can say anything remotely smart.
I am somewhat concerned and worried for them. If Morning Musume was only about singing songs, then it wouldn't matter because you can always memorize songs phonetically, but it's sooooooooooooo much more. Hello! Morning, talk shows (Utaban etc.), all kinds of events and radio shows..
The bottom line is.. Tsunku's got balls. Huuuuuuge cojones.
-
^but since linlin seems to be able to speak it ok, probably better than she thinks she can, they're probably be translating of a few things.
some of the coconut girls didn't know it before and they eventually left with that as reason so I hope she copes well. I mean MM are successful, Coconuts weren't so much so hopefully that'll keep her here.
especially since we'll support her, right? ^_^
-

But you see, LinLin has been an egg only since January, so she has been in a 100% japanese environment, as you put it, only for three months and she already has basic communication, so why would JunJun take 2 years? Unless she's mentally impaired, I don't see why one could learn basic in three months and the other will need 2 years.
And right now you realize that Tsunku likes risks?

I didn't mean to say that they're THAT similar, but just generally Chinese and Korean learn Japanese more quickly than us English-speakers. Especially Korean, but Chinese too. If LinLin can speak and understand basic in 3 months, by May they will be able to introduce themselves, ask for help, and order food at the least. And for singing the songs, they might be able to decipher some meaning from the kanji used in the song before they are good enough to actually be able to understand the Japanese.
EDIT: And I also think that having the experience of having to overcome language barriers together will make them closer, and the difference between this and Coconuts is that they're working together, and as I said before, the Chinese will probably learn Japanese a lot faster than Danielle and Lehua were doing. I am hoping that all will go well. The girls are probably used to new people so they're not going to get all clique-y like when 2nd gen came in.
-
Great link Thunderbolt! Much appreciated! :D
...you know, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Linlin and Junjun joining.....
-
This is kinda like BoA. She knew no Japanese whatsoever before she debuted her, but look at her speaking fluently... Sure it's been 4 years, but hey! She released more singles in Japan than Korea!

JunJun & LinLin: The Search for More Money

Oh, I didn't know that. I thought Linlin had been in the Eggs for like a year now. Dunno where I got that impression.
Still, she's probably studied it before she even came to Japan. I kind of got that feeling from the way she spoke (even though she spoke very little).
And Junjun is older (19 vs 15). It's well known that learning languages at an older age is more difficult and the end result is more stilted, although with hard work you can still achieve fluency.
And yes, Tsunku is fucking crazy. This is probably the biggest risk he's ever taken. Even bigger than graduating Goto way back in 2002. Then again it doesn't really matter because he's already achieved his goals like more than half a decade ago, and we all know he likes to experiment.. After all, the two newbies are referred to as "exchange students", so if it doesn't work out, dropping them is probably easier than graduating ordinary members.
-
Watching the announcement clip from H!M, the reactions from the MM girls were like:
"Oh God, what is this? Is Tsunku-san graduating me?.....Good, I'm not graduating, it's about new members....wait....chinese?.....cool"

ya , there were definitely some troubled faces~ only koha remained in the same expression after the anouncement XD

Last year, around the same time as the 8th generation auditions were taking place here in Japan, Junjun was taking part in an audition in Beijing, and Linlin became an exchange student with the Hello! Project Eggs
She's been here longer than since January according to Tsunku-P o_o So if you have some other info, Tsunku-P is giving two different pieces of info -_-
But I don't think it will take 2-3 years for Junjun to learn to say "anything remotely smart", I started studying Japanese at age 19 and it's not that hard if you just aren't lazy. In Norway where teaching is much faster, they've learned everything in 1 year what it takes 2 years to learn here. Which slightly annoys me, but anyway. If you take the Norway's teaching speed + actually living and actively communicating with people in Japan, maybe you learn the same things as fast as in 6 months. And after a year you should be able to say "remotely smart things"... Well who knows, but dear lord, if it takes 2-3 years to learn to say "anything remotely smart" even if you're actually in Japan, every day talking to Japanese people - damn, I might as well shoot myself in the head and give up on languages altogether.

Still, it is 6 months max, so mpz's statement that 2-3 years would be needed for saying "anything remotely smart" is proven wrong anyway. Not only that, using Pimsleur's japanese course, I had my first broken but understandable spoken conversation with a japanese person today, exactly one and a half months after starting the course (it is three levels, 30 lessons each level, doing one lesson a day, and there is no written material, it is only to learn to speak japanese)
By the way, anybody interested in it, PM me for a torrent link for the Pimsleur course (the course is great, but it is 250 US $ each level)

Maybe it's just my perfectionism talking. I *hate* speaking when I know my skills aren't up to the task and I'd just produce broken output. If you aren't ashamed of it like I am, then of course you can be up and walking and talking much sooner, but that doesn't change the fact that your Japanese or whatever will be seriously broken for years to come.
How long it takes also depends a lot on the teacher. There are competent and not so competent teachers even in Japan. Just because they are Japanese, doesn't mean that they are the absolutely best choice to teach a foreigner the language (at least until a certain point is reached where the learner becomes adept enough to understand explanations in Japanese and so on). Of course I'm sure they'll get the best teachers.. or at least I'm hoping that :-) but the risk of no progress is there. I don't know why the English speaking members of Coconuts (besides Mika, who was already quite good when she joined) never made any progress with Japanese - didn't they have enough time or what? Or maybe they lacked the ambition.
Of course there are linguistic geniuses who can pick up languages in a year or two (and I'm not talking some easy cases like learning German when you know Swedish, they're the same language family after all), but nothing currently indicates that that's the case.
Yeah, languages r teh interesting.
-
I don't get why people feel need that JunJun needs to know Japanese immediately. I mean, its not like she immediately knew she was gonna be in Morning Musume. Why prepare for something that you are unaware of?
Go easy on her people, and look at the japanese music industry and the many foreign artists who have become successful there. If anything, MM just got a sales boost right now (adding some of the chinese speaking population) as well as a media boost. Also probably making Yossui's grad a potential milestone in H!P/MM history.

Is it? I'm not talking about self-introductions or ordering food. I'm talking the level you're going to need to be able to not only follow the fast-paced dodgeball of talk shows but also to counter whatever's thrown at you. Like I said before, Morning Musume is much more than just singing.

Let it be known that there is no magic bullet to language acquisition. There are a lot of snake oil sellers though; while the methods themselves are rarely if ever harmful, the marketing speak *is*. It gives you false hope. You won't learn to read 2000 kanji in 14 days, nor will you be able to speak Japanese by listening to three 15 hour audio tape series (And by speak I mean discussing things at an intelligent level..).
Edit: I know this sounds incredibly pessimistic, but it's my pragmatism speaking. I wish nothing but good for the recruits. It's just that I have walked the same road.. I *have* put my money where my mouth is (was) and learned the language. And you have got to be hallucinating if you don't think it's going to require a lot of effort regardless of the environment :-)

Sorry, I speak English, Italian, Spanish (my mother tongue), French, can read Russian and Greek, and all on my own, and I am having a slow but fluid conversation with an employee of the japanese embassy right now, so where the snake oil there?

Slow does not equal fluid in my vocabulary. Please do keep studying it though; Japanese is an incredibly rewarding language once you crack it.
And I do believe I already brought up the point that learning a bunch of Indo-European languages is not that difficult at all, even moreso if one of them is your mother tongue.
-
Completely off-topic but I speak two languages fluently but have never been able to learn a European language.. at all. Even after many years of trying. I don't know about anyone else, but it ain't easy for me.

You're speaking English. English is an Indo-European language.
...
Yeah, I know you meant the others :-p
-
And I do believe I already brought up the point that learning a bunch of Indo-European languages is not that difficult at all, even moreso if one of them is your mother tongue.
Okay, I want to see you learning, let's say, Spanish, I'll give you six months (that's the amount of time it took me to learn Italian) and then tell me how easy it is.
Another thing is, just because it was difficult to you or easy to you, doesn't mean that it will be difficult for them. And did you learn the language in Japan? I'm not saying it will be easy, but as I said no matter if you have a lousy teacher, being surrounded by the language helps you speed the process.
-
Do we need to break out the rulers to settle this?
-
Okay, I want to see you learning, let's say, Spanish, I'll give you six months (that's the amount of time it took me to learn Italian) and then tell me how easy it is.
Let's not forget that your starting point to learn Italian was Spanish which makes it all the more easier. My native language is not Indo-European, alas.
Given six months of full-time round the clock study and sufficient motivation I think I could do it though. Conveniently right now I have neither :-)
Another thing is, just because it was difficult to you or easy to you, doesn't mean that it will be difficult for them. And did you learn the language in Japan? I'm not saying it will be easy, but as I said no matter if you have a lousy teacher, being surrounded by the language helps you speed the process.
Nope, I didn't learn it in Japan. However, thanks to the Internet it's pretty easy to build an environment where you *are* surrounded by it, in other words hear the language daily and that works for osmosis almost as well as living in the country (ten years ago this would have been unthinkable, so a big thumbs up to whoever invented Internet). The only problem is that you don't really get to practice speaking with natives, but I don't think that has been too much of a problem. Like I said up there, I'm not the type that even wants to practice speaking until I'm pretty confident about it.
Still, I don't wish to antagonize anybody in here. I'm just concerned about the girls, that's all. I really hope it works out, but at the same time am afraid it won't. Only time will tell.
One can argue that Coconuts was just mismanaged (and it's a valid argument since it was managed by Makoto, not Tsunku), but I can't help but feel that it was partly because talk show hosts couldn't really handle people who couldn't follow the quick & witty talking. Look at old Asayan episodes where Coconuts appear. The non-Japanese speaking members were basically deadweights in a situation like that, degenerated into being the target of Okamura's "sexyyyy" hoots. Mika did her best to interpret, but even if you're natively bilingual it's not humanly possible to translate all the puns they throw at you in realtime. Attaching a special interpreter for the girls for the purpose of talk shows kind of breaks the normal flow of the quick back-and-forth chat between the guests and the hosts that is so common in programs like that.
I am certainly looking forward to seeing what happens :-)
-
MM is a bigger group though. They'll need to learn, but the other members will be able to cover more than with Coconuts.
-

Same situation these girls are in. And I know you mean no wrong to them or anybody here, but just as you were defending your point, I was defending mine. You say that even if your native language is not an Indo-European one, if you have "round the clock study and sufficient motivation" you can learn an Indo-European language in six months, and still cannot accept the fact that these girls, who will have round the clock study and have the perfect motivation, can learn japanese in less that 1 year?
Anyway, we both want the best for the girls, I guess I'm just a little more positive than some others. :D
-
I think we should just leave the worrying of how the girls can communicate to the management of UFA and just sit back and wait to enjoy their 1st appearance on stage. :D
That being said, Qian Lin is cute and getting cuter with every look and pictures that i find.
-

It would be easier for me because I'm already fluent in English and studied quite a bit of Swedish and some French in my time (but I would never claim to speak the latter two, simply because I'm not good enough at them).
And I doubt they will be able to have round-the-clock studies since there's so much else they have to do (assuming they're treated the same as full members and participate in all the normal work).
Anyway, we both want the best for the girls, I guess I'm just a little more positive than some others. :D
I agree, let's leave it at that. :-)
I like talking about languages almost as much as I like actually learning them ;-)

Yeah, I agree. I am sure by the time they make their debut they will be competent speakers of Japanese. Don't worry! :D

I was going to drop the subject already, but.. Mind if I revisit this statement when they actually debut..? It doesn't have an inkling of realism.
Unless they're going to be held back for a year or two before debuting, but that's not very likely.
-
They are scheduled to appear on Yossi's graduation concert in May. But as like in the past, it may be just for an introduction + a song.
-
you know what... I don't care if they will or will not speak japanese fluently...
I don't care if they are chinese, japanese, korean, american or from anywhere at all....
Tsunku ideas were always full of coments like "Oh god he is bringing MM down!" and yet.... they are here nowadays.....
I'm actualy glad that 8 gen is not a "one-person" gen again... Koharu always seemed a little left aside for me and that's a bit sad, so I was a lot disapointed when only Aika was chosen...
At least Aika will now have some company on walking her path as a starting singer...
As any new gen, they are renovation for the group... And we can't do nothing but wait and see if Tsunku's crazy ideas will AGAIN amaze us...
[Of course we can pray a little! xD ]
-
i'm glad tsunku didn't just put one of the two girls into morning... that'd be pretty bad b/c of the slight language barrier, in addition to having to leave home and everything that's familiar....
-
that briliance man/girl.. i also agree.. koharu seem leftout.. must be very hard for pinkie.. hope the 2 girl can be fren with aika, worry if they just be 2 instead of 3 coz of language barrier.. like my chinese fren.. sometime they speak in chinese and i dont understand what they laughting about.. that so cruel..
-
I'm all for Tsunku hitting up the Philippines though, I've got connections there.
really dude? you've got connections here? that's great! If Tsunku will get a member from my country...thats a...:pen_clap: :ONwahaha: :panda_haha: and for sure we'll look ever it...
==================================
(*reviewing language knowledge...I only know English & Nihonggo...note: self-studying Nihonggo...)
ok...srsly...I think it wouldn't be a problem if Linlin speaks a bit of Nihonggo and Junjun knows nothing about Nihonggo...for sure they'll undergo training in almost all of the aspects of being a MoMusu member...it's natural that there are reactions regarding this decision made by Tsunku...but I think maybe all we can do is to support them in the most possible way we can...whatever the reason is...Tsunku's doing what he thinks best for H!P...
-

yeah... but i think being the only 7th gen. makes pinkie strong~! plus she was only 12 - quite the age gap with her senpais then... aya did mention how pinkie doesn't cry or anything when miki criticizes her for her shortcomings, rather takes it with a pinch of salt. :D
but yeah... i hope they'll get along with aika and the rest of the members but it'll prob take a while... esp for junjun.
-
I just saw a video clip this afternoon and I don't quite get this at all...It's going to be chaotic when there's a language barrier between the members. I guess they're just trying to broaden their audience...Hello! Project will become Hello! Project Asia! or something.
...
I hope it pans out. Bring it on!
-
Here's a simple newbie theory : Tsunku gets Li Chun & Qian Lin to join MM and is mentored by all the seniors. After a year or so of experience with MM Tsunku sends them back to China to start an H!P branch there with Li Chun & Qian Lin as the first gen. If all goes well he does the same with other neighbor countries. - did that make any sense?
-
Maybe MM have to learn Chinese

That's because Koha loves Miki. Really.:ONhee:
Anyway Casper's theory definitely sounds plausible. And in fact, I like it :D the "Chinese branch" of Morning Musume!

From that youtube vid, LinLin looks like she speaks a sufficient amount of Japanese, but JunJun is totally puzzled XD

i would agree on that...:D

Well, lets see.....since some people here seem to think that Tsunku is mentally impaired....and he has only been planning this for a year.......nope, I don't think this idea ever crossed his mind
COME ON PEOPLE!!! He said it himself on his message:
In 2007 and beyond, one of my goals is to expand into Asia, and I decided having the girls be key persons and join Morning Musume would be the best thing.
-
now here is the question, how long will Chun and Lin be staying in MM? As we all know they are named "transfer student", that means most likely they won't stay in MM for a long time (compare to the amount of time other members have been in MM) and they may not even have an official graduation or something when they do leave MM...
Although Tsunku specially said they are the "key people" for the door to the Asia market (quoted and paraphrased XD from reyfer (THANKS BUD), but how I see is this (remember, this is my assumption!). The amount of time they will stay in MM, as well as this "Asia plan" Tsunku has, will probaby be base on the amount of CD sold for Chun and Lin's debut single with MM...
what I mean is this ---> we know that Tsunku wants to expand H!P to other Asia countries. In order to know whether this will work he needs to know how people (whether they are in Japan or other countries) will react to the group (i.e. MM) with members that are not Japanese in it. To do this, the most basic way is to look at the debut single for Chun and Lin. If the sell is good/great (better than what currently MM has) then the chance for Chun and Lin (and perhaps the chance of adding new foreign members) will likely be increase, and vice versa if the sell is not good.
so to my conclusion, Tsunku is putting a bet on this. Obviously I hope majority of people will like this new "Asia idea" by Tsunku and that Chun and Lin will stay in MM longer... but in reality it's all depend on the sell and the publicity of them with MM...

yes.. that true.. err.. transfer student is not exchange student right.. imho, they will stay at least for a gen.. junjun and linlin sure add a lot of aura to the new gen.. can't wait to listen to their debut song.. :ONwhistle:
-
I was going to drop the subject already, but.. Mind if I revisit this statement when they actually debut..? It doesn't have an inkling of realism.
I meant when they start doing interviews etc., but I know even that is unrealistic. Suppose I am just being ultra optimistic!
Apologies if I was dragging it up again.

Unless they're going to be held back for a year or two before debuting, but that's not very likely.

they made their TV debut on yesterday (Sunday) H!M, and they will have their stage debut on the day when Yossie graduates, which is May 6th. I believe they will have their first singing debut as MM when the 34th single comes out.
-
junjun's self shots look cute. she so doesn't look 19. also, linlin does look like ayaka
-
Just saw Sunday's Hello Morning. Lin Lin seems more outgoing, and she spoke a bit of Japanese, too. She looks really sweet. Jun Jun was quiet, but you could tell that the news really affected her. She couldn't converse with Yossie at all. Yossie was asking Lin Lin about a bunch of Chinese foods (Mapu Tofu, Jasmine Tea, etc.) and they were laughing about it, but Jun Jun probably feels a bit left out. I hope she doesn't feel too lonely.
-
^It might make her wnat to study and get better even more.
Like a boost of encouragement knowing she'd be able to do that. She must have a certain about of confidence to audition and her confidence will have boosted more with her winning so I'm sure she'll be working her hardest! ^^
-
Which 8th gen member is more popular (now that they're still newbies), in your opinion?
My guess it's Aika
-
I assume JunJun will transform later on, just like Kamei.
-
I've seen so many pictures that JunJun took herself
Does she have her own blog or something?
If there is, whats the link?

Just saw Sunday's Hello Morning. Lin Lin seems more outgoing, and she spoke a bit of Japanese, too.
I think that could be the reason why she seemed more at ease. Because she could actually talk to Yossie. And She was a part of Eggs before, so at least she's seen them around. I don't know how long Junjun has been in Japan but this is a totally new environment for her.

I assume JunJun will transform later on, just like Kamei.

Sorry to bring this up again but I'd like to post my 2cents about learning japanese.
I think they will be fine in around 6 months. First of all being chinese means that even now they know a lot more kanji (eventhough some of them are simplified differently) than all the momusu members so learning their new readings will be a lot easier than let's say for a european. So reading will be no problem for them.
Living in Japan will take care of their vocabulary in no time too. Sure they won't be able to make witty comments or even understand properly when Taka-san is bullying them 'cos that really takes years. But they will be able to communicate with other members or make short speeches that are prepared for them in advance.
Also japanese grammar is not hard.
The hard thing is learning all the phrases and keigo (polite expressions) but those are hard for even native speakers.
Also just for reference I'm european, I've been studying japanese for just a year and I've been subbing Utabans for 3-4months now. It's not THAT difficult.
I think they will be just fine.
-
^
Yea I agree, I might be kind of bias though because Im mixed with Japanese and Chinese.. to me, both languages are pretty similar to each other..
Basically, a Chinese person can get around fine in Japan without knowing the language well and vice versa
But its probably easier for me only :)
Hope JunJun gets the hang of Japanese soon
-
Also just for reference I'm european, I've been studying japanese for just a year and I've been subbing Utabans for 3-4months now. It's not THAT difficult.
Enthusiasm is good but it doesn't cover everything. I thought I could sub animes after I had studied for a year and a half, and I did try my hand at it but almost half of the lines were just educated guesses. When I look back at those attempts now, they look rightly hideous. I have the courage to admit it now. Of course the viewing public isn't the smarter because they wouldn't be watching fansubs if they understood the language, now would they.
I'd say it took me 3-4 years after that to *really* start grasping Japanese at a fundamental level, not just translating in my head. You'll know what I'm talking about when you get there. It is a magnificent feeling though, when the pieces of the puzzle finally fall into place.
Oh, and I'm European too, if that matters. I just don't think being Chinese is that big of an advantage. They use some of the same characters, but that's like saying it's easy to learn Polish if your native tongue is Hungarian because you already know the alphabet.
-
Now I'm confused: first you're not european, then your language is not Indo-European, now you're european, and still nobody can learn japanese? I don't get it
-
None of that crap matters! It just matters if you're dedicated or not. >.>

i second that. i'v only just started learning nihongo. i look forward to each class on weekends.:D

i second that. i'v only just started learning nihongo. i look forward to each class on weekends.:D
Oh, I agree 100% (that's what I have been saying from the start), I was wondering why our friend mpz keeps trying to tell us that neither we nor these girls can learn faster than he did, if we learn at all :D
-
on my part it's a level of interest. if i didn't have to work i'd have classes everyday(expensive though). for junjun & linlin, they have enough motivation now that they're Musume (Chugoku Musume?)
-
Now I'm confused: first you're not european, then your language is not Indo-European, now you're european, and still nobody can learn japanese? I don't get it
I never said I wasn't European. Not all European countries have an Indo-European language (although a great majority does :-)
But I shall refrain from further beating of the proverbial horse now..
-
what's imporant is all of us are studying nihonggo...whether taking classes or self-study...though the side-effect sometimes when we're fluently speaking nihonggo is our native language is kinda...snuggish...hehehehehe!~ :ONbigdeal:
-
hmm....shuffle group in the works...
Reina, JunJun, LinLin are....PANDA! :D

Well, Morning Musume has never been about girls that are perfect, let alone competent. Honestly, how many of the girls started off as mediocre singers? A lot of the charm of the being a fan is seeing them grow up and progress. Jun Jun is sincere and Lin Lin is charming - it'll be fantastic seeing them learn a new language and adapting to a new culture and being part of something greater than themselves.

Since when did this become "The Difficulties Inherent in Studying Japanese Thread"? It really won't matter what their level of proficiency in Japanese is because the other girls will take up whatever slack they leave behind. It's not like they'll be flying solo up there. Until they become comfortable with being on TV and forcing themselves into conversations they'll just sit quietly in the background looking pretty, just like Aichan.
I would also like to mention that I agree with mpz. I believe all of you will have a different outlook on your current proficiency with Japanese once you get 3 or 4 years of solid study under your belt. Until then, I suggest you look at the complexity of the sentences you're able to construct and the range/depth of topics you're able to discuss. Let's make an experiment. Pretend you just saw a movie that you enjoyed and want to tell a Japanese friend about it. First think of how you would describe it in your native tongue and then try to do the same in Japanese. If it takes you a long time to form simplistic sentences that merely list events in a simplistic fashion, then you have quite a few more years of study before you can reach a natural and fluid speaking ability. Oh, and speaking as someone who is proficient in both Japanese and Chinese, and I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, any suggestion that knowing either language makes learning the other easier just sounds ignorant. Chinese characters were introduced in Japan in the 8th century and since then both languages have developed rather independently. It's like suggesting an English speaker would learn Vietnamese easily because they both use the Roman Alphabet.
-
Amen to that.
-
Again, and this is really the last time I write on the subject: I never said it was not difficult to learn, I said that given they have 1) the environment, 2) the help and 3) the motivation, it will be easier for them to learn and won't take them as long as it would being outside Japan. If still somebody thinks that nobody else given those conditions can learn faster than himself, then there's nothing I can do to convince him.
-
Since when did this become "The Difficulties Inherent in Studying Japanese Thread"?

Sorry.

and again...all we can do as fans is...to support them instead of criticizing them for being Chinese...it doesn't matter anymore on whatever nationality you belong to...it's the willingness & dedication of bringing joy to the fans is their mission...like the others have mentioned, it will take time for them (esp. junjun) to learn nihonggo...and I don't think Tsunku & the rest of MoMusu & H!P will let them study by themselves...they'll help them for sure.:pen_nod:

Hmmm. Ok. I guess I have to mod this thing:
Less talk about learning Japanese, more talk about the actual piece of news!
We'll see in a year's time who was right.
"Awesome modding, shirenu!"
"Thanks, I try"

Some Boys! Blog reports that JunJun has updated her blog: http://someboys.wordpress.com/2007/03/20/junjun-strikes-back/

hrmmm .. LL can speak jap dy ... so there is no way she cant sing or speak in this few months time.
JJ ... her cuteness kills alot ppl !!! about her ability to adapt in Japan by culture or linguistic, I DO NOT HAVE DOUBT. Kanji's words were almost similar with Chinese.
Therefore NO doubt that this two will bring excitement to H!P or even bring MM to those back day's glory!
JJ FTW~

I have to ask.. what is her blog's hp?! No one seems to post any links...
That being said, I applaud her for her attempts to stand up for herself, but at the same time, she really might have said the wrong thing.. especially that bit about China... I'm more than sure will start a lot of shit. It's like fuel in the flames.

Wow, as a Chinese, thumbs up for her to say that.
But I doubt she posted it with the acknowledgement from UFA... Which might be a problem if UFA knows it.
I still like Linlin a lot more than Junjun, but Junjun is definitely raising some points in my book for defending the Chinese. Great, just great.

JunJun has balls for stickin up to the negative wota naysayers...hopefully this doesn't have any repurcussions though

Oh my, I seem to be a little late to the party. In fact, 28 pages late (all of which i read, just to get caught up). It took a lot of strength not to throw out quips to all of the banter running back and forth, and I'm going to try to put my ideas into something coherent (at the risk of this post getting lost once more flood in). I'll preface this by saying that a lot of what i have to say echoes what jb already wrote (http://forum.jphip.com/showpost.php?p=331094&postcount=282), so please give that a read if you haven't already.
A number of points below will be based on my subjectivity. Feel free to reply or ignore, but at least read the first section, because I think it's the most important to the topic at hand.
On Nationality
The particular portion of pop culture we are talking about here in reference to H!P and Momusu needs to be understood as Idolism. Within it, the key point to success (and is marketed as such by the idols themselves) is physical appearance, namely cuteness, and additionally cute phrases or cute dances and anything that can generally be adapted to become cute. Nowhere in this formula is there a specification for nationality of the idol. However, it seems that within this brand of pop culture, Japan has really been the only country that has been able to spearhead its development. Naturally, the idols are Japanese, in accordance to be able to sell a product to a national audience. In this way, all of the idols of Momusu have been and are, up until now, Japanese.
If you recognize or take part in Idolism as a fan, you recognize the staggering reality that the majority of idols you know and love are Japanese. But Idolism never specified it, so the belief that Idolism must include "Japanese" is a misconception that stems from the fanbase. A few people (and perhaps it's only a few because it's JPH!P) seem to hint at the inability for Idolism to accept other nationalities. Just because you look at "Japan" and see "Idols", doesn't mean that when you look at "Idols" you always have to see "Japanese". If you believe someone of another nationality would not be successful, or would (more strongly) be detremental to the current state of Idolism, I submit that you have a jaded view of Idolism and Japan, and have an unwillingness to understand the two as two separate things.
On National Relations
Politics has little to do with Idolism. And in similar fashion, Idolism has little to do with Politics. Don't forget that.
Not all of asia hates Japan. There are certain things about Japan that are holding back certain parts of foreign relations from progress, and while propaganda may have more strength in China... Politics has little to do with Idolism.
Not all of Taiwan hates China. In fact, it's split almost 50/50, with the disagreements resulting from governmental policy only.
Also, don't get sucked into believing that a new cross-cultural Idolism will cure problems of Politics. I find it highly unlikely that the highest government officials will discuss matters of international policy based off of the latest pop-artist releases. Idolism has little to do with Politics.
On Li Chun and Qian Lin
Qian Lin knows basic Japanese. I would rate her at about 2nd year, with extensive experience within Japan. Li Chun has little if any. In the announcement video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAqfi2UdfRk), you can catch a glimpse of Li Chun's narrator assisting in translation.
JunJun and LinLin are their nicknames. In Chinese culture, it is fashionable to create nicknames in this fashion of "cute", similar to Japan's "-chan". Considering H!P will need both Li Chun and Qian Li to warm up to the Momusu girls as soon as possible, it makes sense (to me) that they would use cute nicknames (as friends would do) rather than their formal names, in order to help bridge the gap.
If you feel that there is hidden xenophobia within the nicknames (such as equating them with the likes of Pandas), I believe that you are too enamoured with Japan, and know very little about other Asian cultures. Honestly, do you think H!P and Momusu are out to racially profile these two? H!P and Momusu need to make the girls feel welcome into the world of Idolism. The best way to do that is to use a level of communication that Li Chun and Qian Lin are familiar with. And their nicknames, which I'm sure are (the Japanese phoneticization of) their Chinese nicknames (albeit slightly different pronunciations), are the perfect way, irrespective of any pre-existing epithets about pandas. If you still think it has to do with pandas... that's your own misguided view.
This also applies to the video of Li Chun's audition (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_OhVfDswjA). I personally find Mandarin to be a little bit harsh of a language when it comes to pop songs. Ballads and traditional songs sound beautiful, as it were. I will admit I agree Li Chun's singing isn't quite up to par, but I am not basing my judgement under the condition of only ever listening to Japanese music (because if somebody did, anything that wasn't Japanese would probably sound bad).
On the girls learning Japanese
Japanese borrow a slew of characters from Chinese. A number of the pronunciations of the words are based off of the approximation, in Japanese, of how a Chinese person would say it. Dictionary-level meaning is largely in-tact.
There are most certainly nuances that clearly separate the two languages. Japanese is as much a robust culture in its own as Chinese is, and the languages reflect that.
However, Li Chun and Qian Lin are out to become idols, not philosophers. The bulk of Japanese that will become most relevant to their career will consist of aishiteru, dakishimete, and other cute responses. I seriously doubt that any fan will ask them to ponder philosophically about various international issues (or what have you), so I wouldn't be worried about their ability to pick up Japanese.
For everyone else, let it be a message that Japanese is a beautiful and robust language that exposes a multitude of facets about Japanese culture, far beyond the realm of Idolism. If you're using H!P to get into learning Japanese, keep it in mind and use it as motivation. If you're continuing (as I am), then ganbattekudasai!
On Li Chun and Qian Lin in Momusu
I agree that Simmin was a litmus test. Some believe that introducing the two into the primary H!P group is too risky. Yes, on the one hand, it is very risky. But on the other hand, if Tsunku doesn't do something revolutionary, his flavor of music-and-dance Idolism is eventually going to collapse (and let's be honest, international fan support doesn't help very much because... well, at this point, H!P isn't exactly international). So, best-case-scenario: Li Chun and Qian Lin hit it big, H!P goes international within asia, Tsunku's flavor of Idolism survives, and even grows. Worst-case-scenario: well, it was going to go down anyway.
I agree with JB that Li Chun and Qian Lin will most likely return as ambassadors to China, and to begin something in the likes of a Hello! Project China. Although I don't think the timing is right. Two acts from China are not enough to return and open up an entire industry. You would need a larger group, more variety for the fans, something about the size of... the original Momusu! (who would've thought?). That said, I can't forsee Momusu taking on additional international idols. For one, it harms the investment of current fans who love their Japanese idols. For another, it sends a mixed message about the placement of Idol pop culture: will all Idols end up going to Japan? Most likely, I see Momusu becoming a sister-act to another Momusu-type group. Not subgroups or lesser acts, but equal, and with the second either returning to or touring internationally.
On the state of Idolism in Japan
With all of this said, I think we all need to recognize that Idolism isn't what drives Japan (in regard to the contention that Idolism is currently based in Japan). We may all happen to be fans of H!P, but that's the nature of this forum. In day-to-day life in Japan, you are hard pressed to find conversations about, or admissions of fandom to, H!P and Momusu... except perhaps within particular hot-zones (H!P shops, otaku areas, etc). Japan is a country with a robust culture of unimaginable magnitude, and believe it or not, Idolism is merely a sliver in the whole pie.
I think it is for this reason that current fans are as devoted as they are, especially international fans, considering the sliver of H!P to be a gem among everything else. But it is this type of devotion that can turn in against itself, creating things like xenophobia and childish flames online. In this regard, I see this "expansion" into China as doubly-beneficial: 1) it will help broaden the scope of Idolism, and it seems that China is hungry for such a product, meaning that Idolism as a concept can grow, and in doing so, 2) it offers recourse for the current fans to become reborn again into their fandom, understanding Idolism in a new way. In this way, it makes sense for Tsunku to invite the girls as "Exchange Students", rather than simply to build up a separate empire in China (isolated from Japan), and have it begin to fall apart as is happening (to one extent or another) in Japan.
With these considerations, I will end with...
On the state of the Fans
Perhaps the biggest problem fans of Idol figures face is a lack of recognition. You are afraid to go public, admit, divulge, and so on, about your fandom, out of fear of criticism or alienation. This varies from person to person, and location to location. But I would say that it's generally understood as a condition that exists as-is.
Well, wouldn't it be great if something could come along that could change Idolism in such a way that would give it more recognition, greater coverage, larger appreciation?
Well... wouldn't it?
That's all for now.

i honestly think she can give a fuck about what the organization will say. i mean if those wotas are gonna be racist, she has her rights to stand for herself and her country. i am chinese myself so i support her.
if those wotas hate china, they better not step foot on the soul when MM have another fan club tour in china.

Finally tg comes in and he came to pwn \o/
Awesome read, i found it as informative (and even moreso on Idolism) as JB's post.

P.S.

I have really high expectations with this move, whether it works or not, a nice attempt was made, for others to follow. Integration sounds just about right and also if they succeed, it means mucho more years of H!P for us!!!
Sadly, we already know it won't last forever, but MM is around for 10 years already, longer than most people thought, UFA needs the money to keep 'em around, and if the asia expansion thing works, we'll all get benefited with several years of H!P goodness...
