@oddy: I hope to expand on that aspect of the story soon, at least with these next chapters
Chapter 5
Reina's POV
The hospital was quite a distance away, since it was early morning, I had enough to take a train ride over to the next town. Luckily, there were many school kids on my train and they were commenting me about being cute and trendy. Although, I didn't like the clothes I was wearing but to keep up the charade, I had to always dress up. I dropped off at the next stop and ran to the hospital couple streets down from the station.
When I arrive there, I needed to find where the room was located in the hospital, however without too much authority over the case, it would be a long shot to get the needed information. Thus, I decided to walk around for a bit until I got to the ICU ward of the hospital. The receptionist was drinking some hot tea and saw me walking over to her. She presented a smile before dropping the rest of the tea on herself.
“Sorry, sorry, I am so nervous.” I paused and grabbed the napkin from the top of the desk.
“Nervous, why nervous?” She giggled toward herself and managed to bang the top of the head underneath the desk.
“Rarely, any young women come around, like the one who was here recently.”
“Where did she go?”
“I saw her go to the conference room, over there.” I picked up the soaked napkin and threw it into trash.
As I got up from the floor, she grabbed my hand, and glimpsed at my finger nails. I had them painted a while back and it started fading from the lack of care these past couple of days. She showed me hers and it was almost the same color as she tried to compared but I could tell it was slightly off. After a few seconds of admiring, she released her grip of my hand, and she went back to her work. However, in the back of my mind, I needed to know her name, because she could be of help later on in the investigation.
“It is Kamei, Kamei Eri~” I thought it was awesome that she knew what I was thinking but it was a good situation for me.
I walked over to the room and heard some loud talking, it sounded like the officer I had to talk to about the situation with Nakazawa and her. I leaned in and listened to some of the conversation, then it suddenly went silent. Rarely, I could ever imagine Ai-chan would ever be silent, she could explain many things to me while I kept pounding her with questions. But, this was a first and I knew that if there was any more to this investigation, I had to play dumb for the remainder of the time.
Before any more could be said, I walked toward the receptionist, and stood in front of her while she was getting grilled by the IA officers.
“Are you also a police officer?” Eri asked while I was still concentrating on the door to open up.
“Yes, I am.”
“Cool, your friend is also one too, correct?” I nodded to her question.
“I never imagine myself as one...” She started to talk about her own personal faults and it was a distraction from the situation but I could only be patient about Ai. Eri kept herself up with her own spirit of observing the frail people in this area. Then, she mumbled about Ai trying to find a place that was open.
“Anyways, I am also hungry, is the cafeteria open?” She looked at the clock and nodded.
I ran to the cafeteria right when it opened up, the smell of fresh food filled the area, and I needed something quick. The person in front passed me a bowl of porridge, he handed me a spoon and tasted the mush. The slight hint of cinnamon and sweetness from the honey filled my stomach, when I walked up to pay, he denied my money, and I walked back to the receptionist.
“That was nice nice of him, I wonder why he gave it away...” I thought to myself while walking back.
“Ah, the chef gave you free food, you so lucky~” Eri smiled and shook her body back and forth in glee.
“Don't you get free food?” Eri started to blush and started her gleeful dance again.
“I like to leech off people.” I looked at her again and gave the rest of the mush to her. She took out her own spoon and ate it while she continued on with her work.
I looked at the time and dialed Ai's number to see where she was in the hospital. After the first ring, I saw her come out with the two IA officers. I ran up to her, meeting her halfway, Ai seemed okay but visibly something was on her mind.
“Ai-chan, tell me why are they trying to get you out?” I asked her.
She was thinking a lot, more than usual, the IA officers got something on her, I knew she had seen something that caught her off guard. I wanted to ask them but they were long gone from the scene, I looked over at Eri before adjusting my attention back at Ai.
“Tanaka, walk with me, I need to explain something to you.”
“What is it, Ai-chan?” She grabbed my hand and we strolled out to the garden for the patients.
“Remember when you came into the force, I had you follow me around because I wanted you to be with me. The honest explanation was you were succeeding a person I had admired for her work and if you could go as far as she did, you would turn for the worst, so I just let you entice them. She would take them in and go far into the foreplay that she would forget the code word and I had to save her.”
It seemed foreign that as a cop I would go so far to let any person touch my body but if it was for anything, I could see why she did it. However, the woman who Ai-chan had to cover up for the position, must have known about her stings. Especially, the ones Nakazawa did approve of doing.
“She is trying to tie me into her plans.” Ai broke down and started to slap the ground with her hand, causing a cut to bleed profusely.
“Ai-chan! STOP! It isn't your fault.” I held her close and looked over at the man.
Luckily for a staff member on his smoke break, Ai got bandaged up quickly, and she looked at her hand with the red marking from the cut. I needed to get her spirits up and try to take her mind away from the internal investigation. I decided to take her over to the cafeteria and the chef gladly handed over her a bowl of porridge. She slowly ate it as I stared at the morning scenery at the hospital.
