I'm not really into j-hip-hop but I like Rip Slyme ^_^ I'm happy and a bit proud that people like them, since one of them (Ilmari) is half Finnish! :D I heard he owns a Japanese restaurant here in Finland. Or I dunno if it's his family's or something, but it's kinda cool.

Was anyone expecting M-flo to do a song with Shadow the Hedgehog? LoL.  It's actually a pretty decent song though,I don't mind it at all.  As for J-Hip Hop though I personally don't like the way it sounds (much like North American / English Hip Hop).  If you wanna hear something that flows nice, listen to K-Hip Hop.  Bands like Drunken Tiger, 1TYM, YG Family (yes I like them aside from what most people say about them) and even DJ Doc has some pretty good Hip Hop ish feeling tracks.

The only exposure to J-hiphop I've gotten is to Rhymester, and the more known ones like M-flo, and such~

Ooh, RIZE is pretty good too. o_o

Just have to say that Heartsdales are a hot duo, and just love their sound with a mixture of Japanese and English.  I'm not a huge fan of rap, but these girls blend it really well with the total sound - plus they are HOT AS!!!!  They released their 4th album last month (Feb 2006...  also here).  Don't have it yet, nor their first     Soon, perhaps!

"We love hip-hop! Do you love hip-hop?!"

I'm listening to Rhymester's Heat Island album right now. It's turning to be quite a solid album. At first I started to get bored with the first few tracks, but it started to get better. It's good, but not really their best stuff. I think my biggest problem with it is that some of the stuff is pretty cliche.

Favorite Japanese hip-hop group of all time is probably Tha Blue Herb, but Buddah Brand is a very close 2nd (too bad that great group broke up).

As a sidenote, I think it's important for people to understand what hip-hop really is.  Big bells and alarms go off in my head when I start seeing groups like Ripslyme and Bennie K (which is a group I'm a big fan of, but they're not hip-hop) get mentioned.

I think they could still be concidered to be hip-hop. It's more "poppy" than what most purists concider to be hip-hop but I think the genre has become very broad and they really don't fit anywhere else imo.

I don't really like japanese hiphop, most things i heard were wannabe-american-raps , and since i don't like american hiphop.

I like halcali and rip slyme though, they're different  :) .

The Rhymester Island is a mixed bag but it is pretty interesting. I think the J-Urban scene isn't really my stuff and that cuts out half of everything in the Hip Hop music. I think Rip Slyme & Halcali are mostly pop themed Hip Hop though I think their theory is quite sound. I mean Hip Hop doesn't need a standard especially when its roots are Disco :D

Quote from: boykun
not into the urban scene as much as i used to.

im more into the moody, chillax atmosphere hip hop songs. so.. Rip Slyme stuff. Masterpiece was a good album.
some Dragon Ash.. i dont really listen to them, but i liked what Kenji did with Steady and Co.
Home Made Kazoku's Thank You!! single was pretty good too.
m-flo, good stuff, cuz they actually diversify their sound.
DJ Hasebe's stuff is good too, at least what ive heard.. which is not much

lol and of course SALT5, cant mess with them.

yeah~ getup! rapper i love this song~ motivates me a lil back then~ love to see the video where kago chan doing her pushup.... although the camera have been tilted~

hmm original m-flo with lisa was the best back in the day...they got a lot poppier now with a somewhat generic sound, but they're still ok...never really got into the jhiphop scene, but i like some of buddha brand's beats, as well as shing02....if your looking for just altogether quality rap/hiphop music, korean artists like dynamic duo and drunken tiger is the way to go! just my opinion though...
