THE DRAGON 李小龍

"My Followers In Jeet Kune Do. Do listen to this...all fixed set patterns are
incapable of adaptability or pliability. The truth is outside of all fixed patterns."

- Bruce Lee, 1966

INTRO

daigong has decided to throw some shit together and create this tribute to the greatest man that ever lived, Bruce Lee. He has inspired my life with his charisma and lightning moves. He is the complete package. It is about time The Rika Ass Lover represent. I knew about The Dragon forever...he is the epitome of Chinese kung fu movies. I checked out Enter The Dragon (aka Way of The Dragon) and Chinese Connection (aka Fist of Fury) at the local video store when I was 10. It was just the most amazing shit I ever seen. I read his books, watched the movies, visited the cheap ass museum in Hong Kong, and now it's time for a praising.

I'd have to say Fist of Fury is my all time favorite. It is the story that helps...he is the patriotic superhero that takes on all the foreign invaders that split a nation - including the ass kissing traitors. Way of the Dragon and The Big Boss rank a close second. The comedy in Way... is refreshing and all of Bruce's fight to walk the right path before all the fuckers push him to edge is really gripping. Enter The Dragon is average, with too many side characters...but Bruce's fight scenes save it. I only bought Game of Death for the real fight scenes, otherwise, it ain't a fucking Bruce Lee movie at all. I'm sure if The Dragon would be still alive today, he would not use any special effects like Jet Li. He keeps it raw!! Unlike Jackie Chan who makes a mockery of himself and the Chinese race - Bruce Lee keeps it real!! Me and other wannabes can imitate him all we want, but HERE IS THE ORIGINAL BAD ASS!

Bruce Lee's Tao of Chinese Gung Fu
Using No Way As Way - Having No Limitation As Limitation

All action movies must pay tribute to his cartoon-ish style. One man versus a room full of punks. The zoom in zoom out camera angles and that trademark yell. Hell, he even brought the token gay humor in with that yellow belly interpreter from "Way Of The Dragon"

The propagandic message that he delivers in his movies, to tell A Nation of Billions with a 5000 year history to be strong and be proud for who you are is lost in the fight sequences. He brought awareness to the world that Chinese are not "the sick people of the East" ... and that Chinese Gung Fu is not to be fucked with. With Jeet Kune Do, he moved the Chinese kung fu into the modern era. He taught Chinese not to look down on oneself, stop fucking imitating other cultures and be proud of who you are. For over 50 years, the message lives on. And we give THANKS. Chinese people will never forget.

Title: Bruce Lee
Post by: chera on February 05, 2006, 09:42:36 PM
I also loved Bruce Lee as a kid.  Puny little chinese punk beats up Chuck Norris - take that!  Now I've grown up and witnessed the credibility of kung-fu, karate, and TKD be whipped to shreds by brazillian jiu-jitsu, but that still doesn't take away from the symbolism of the little guy.

But Bruce Lee's appeal goes beyond Asian-pride - he represents all opressed people that have the guts to take the fight to the man.  Witness this article from last year on the first monument to be erected in Bosnia after the war.  To Bruce Lee!  Killer quote: "Bruce Lee is part of our idea of universal justice - that the good guys can win."

Bosnians agree: Commemorate Bruce Lee
By Beth Kampschror | Correspondent of The Christian Science Monitor MOSTAR, BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA –

In the heart of Europe's war-torn Balkans, a land where it's hard to get people to agree on anything, there's one point of common ground: The new Bruce Lee statue will point north.

When it is unveiled in Mostar Saturday, the 5-foot, 7-inch bronze likeness will be the world's first monument to the late great martial arts star - edging out by one day a new statue going up in Hong Kong. Bosnia-Herzegovina is about as far as one can get from the Hong Kong streets where the Chinese-American film legend unleashed his fists of fury. But, in some ways, that's the point.
   (Photograph)
ICON OF UNITY: A bronzed Bruce will be unveiled in Mostar on Nov. 26.

"He's far [enough] away from us that nobody can ask what he did during World War II, during World War I, or what his ancestors did under Turkey. He's ... not Catholic, not Orthodox, not Muslim," says Veselin Gatalo, head of Mostar's Urban Movement group. "Bruce Lee is part of our idea of universal justice - that the good guys can win."

While it may prompt some snickers, the Bruce Lee tribute will stand as the only monument raised in postwar Bosnia without an uproar. Bruce's greatest virtue - beyond his two-fingered push up - is that he had no dog in the Balkans' centuries-old religious fight.

That separates him from Alija Izetbegovic. Sarajevo International Airport was nearly renamed last month after the late Muslim leader. Muslim war veterans said that the airport and Mr. Izetbegovic symbolized Sarajevo's resistance to the three-year Bosnian Serb siege of the city.

"Mr. Izetbegovic led an army and politics that wanted to unite Bosnia," says Muhamed Svrakic of the Green Berets veterans' organization in Sarajevo. "From 1992 to 1995, the future of this town was that airport. It was the only way to get any kind of food aid, or journalists, or the wounded in or out of the city."

But Bosnian Serbs were outraged. They pointed out that Izetbegovic had been under investigation by the UN war-crimes tribunal when he died in October 2003. They therefore welcomed the ban of the name change by Bosnia's top international official, Paddy Ashdown, who also decreed that such changes had to be approved by the central government.

"If it hadn't been for [Mr. Ashdown's] decision, the Serb representatives would have boycotted flying out of that airport," says Serb parliamentarian Bosko Sljegovic. Izetbegovic's supporters ended up with a square in downtown Sarajevo.

New structures that commemorate the 1992-95 war are even more sensitive. Serbs were accused of provocation after erecting a monument to their dead outside Srebrenica last summer, on the 10th anniversary of the Bosnian Serb massacre of some 8,000 Muslims. Survivors of a Serb-run detention camp at Omarska are awaiting international mediation about their proposed monument.

Rebuilding mosques, churches, and bridges also invites squabbles over whether a place was historically Croat, Muslim, or Serb. Moderates say these sites belong to everyone. "To talk about cultural heritage in these terms is totally wrong," says Amra Hadzimuhamedovic, an architect on the state Commission to Preserve National Monuments.

The Bruce Lee statue is something everyone can support, says Mr. Gatalo. But in a town where Croats are concentrated in west Mostar and Muslims in east, Gatalo's group had to consider which way the "Enter the Dragon" icon would face.

"If he faced west he'd be defending east Mostar from west Mostar, or west Mostar from east," Gatalo says. "And he can't face south, because that's Croatia. Facing north, he looks nowhere."

IMO Bruce Lee is the best Kung fu actor. He was amazing and had more skill than any other Kung fu actor today. Some of his feats:

Bruce did one-hand push ups using only 2 fingers.
Bruce was able to hold a 125-pound barbell at arms length in front of him (with elbows locked) for several seconds.
Bruce was able to break a 150lb bag with a sidekick.

My favourite Kung fu movie is the Bruce Lee - The Tower of death.

China to air 50-part Bruce Lee biography

Oct 07, 2008 08:41 AM

BEIJING–Bruce Lee is getting a belated hero's welcome in China, with the country's state broadcaster set to air a 50-part prime-time series on the late kung fu star.

Lee became a chest-thumping source of nationalistic pride to Chinese around the world with his characters who defended the Chinese against oppressors in a series of movies in the early 1970s. But his influence wasn't felt immediately in China, which was then a closed communist country.

Lee's films started surfacing in China on video in the 1980s – years after his death in 1973 from swelling of the brain.

China's official China Central Television hopes to fill the void with the exhaustive 50 million Chinese yuan ($8.1 million Canadian) biography, The Legend of Bruce Lee – the country's first movie or TV series on the actor, according to producer Yu Shengli.

Shot in China, Hong Kong, Macau, the U.S., Italy and Thailand over nine months, the series, starting Sunday in prime time, will air daily on the CCTV's flagship channel, with two episodes airing consecutively every night in a two-hour slot.

Unlike past films about Lee, The Legend of Bruce Lee is unusually detailed in tracing Lee's life, from his teenage years in Hong Kong to his move to the U.S., where he studied and taught martial arts, to his movie career and early death at 32, the Hong Kong actor who plays Lee told The Associated Press in an interview Tuesday.

"We've only seen the glorious side of Bruce Lee – he comes out all guns blazing, his films are entertaining. But very few people know what injuries he suffered and what grievances he suffered,'' Danny Chan said, noting the series even reveals that Lee was afraid of cockroaches.

The 33-year-old actor, whose best known work is Stephen Chow's Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer, makes up for his lack of star power with his uncanny resemblance to Lee with his thick eyebrows and slender body.

Lee's message of Chinese strength in movies like The Chinese Connection and Return of the Dragon also matches that of the Chinese government.

"Lee had strength, agility, pride, intelligence, not to mention charisma to burn, which coupled with the pro-Chinese rhetoric in his films have made him a potent symbol for the powerful new China that is now rising," said Michael Berry, a professor in contemporary Chinese cultural studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

"He wrote the word 'kung fu' into English dictionaries. He made people aware of China," CCTV official Zhang Xiaohai said at a news conference Tuesday.

Lee is shown bursting with Chinese pride in a trailer shown at the news conference, bellowing "I am Chinese" to spectators after defeating a foreign opponent.

In an apparent effort to boost racial pride, the series was originally scheduled to be aired before the Beijing Olympics in August, but was pushed back in keeping with the period of mourning for the deadly earthquake in China's central Sichuan province on May 12, which killed 70,000 people.

The series was authorized by the Lee family. Producer Yu said Lee's daughter, Shannon Lee Keasler, approved the script and is credited as an executive producer. It's unclear, however, how Lee himself, who spent his time in the U.S. and then-British colony Hong Kong, felt about the communist Chinese regime. The Lee family didn't respond to requests for comment from the AP sent through intermediaries.

Berry said China is also catching up on pop culture that it missed when it was a closed country, such as kung fu films, noting the emergence of martial arts epics in recent years. When Lee died in 1973, China was still in the middle of the ultra-leftist Cultural Revolution, when millions of people suspected of opposing the communist government were persecuted.

Top young director Jia Zhangke told the AP he was one of the Chinese youngsters that belatedly found out about Lee by watching his movies on tape in the early 1980s at "video-watching parlours," which he describes as "a room with 15 or 20 chairs.''

"I really liked them. He fights with great style. Boys like violence. There is nationalism in his movies – he's always fighting foreigners. I was very happy watching the movies," he said.

Bruce Lee's Last Home to Become a Hong Kong Tourist Attraction
By Ann Binlot

He was born in San Francisco, but Bruce Lee is the ultimate hometown hero to the people of Hong Kong. The martial arts move star was one of the first Chinese celebrities to achieve an international following, putting Hong Kong's film industry on the map in the early 1970s with kung fu classics like Fist of Fury and Way of the Dragon. His grace, brashness and fame gave Hong Kong residents a superstar who was one of their own.

Now, Hong Kong may have found a proper way to remember him. This week, the city's government agreed to restore Lee's former residence in Hong Kong's Kowloon Tong district, with an eye toward turning it into a tourist attraction. Just as Elvis fans have Graceland, martial-arts fans will be able to make the pilgrimage to 41 Cumberland Road — Lee's last residence before his death in 1973 at age 32 — and visit the gym where he practiced, view his library of books on martial arts, philosophy and ballet, and bear witness to other kung fu curiosities. "As Bruce Lee fans we wanted to preserve the last place where Bruce Lee lived," says Peer Hesstvedt, who last year started a Facebook page to lobby for saving the home. "People should know what an incredible impact he had on so many people." (Watch the video of TIME's favorite Chinese movies.)

The agreement by the city to develop the rather unprepossessing, 5,700 sq. ft. home — Lee called it the Crane's Nest — rescues the two-story property from ignoble obscurity. It has been operating as a "love motel" catering to amorous couples looking to rent a room for an hour for a romantic tryst. Last year, the home's owner, Chinese real estate tycoon and philanthropist Yu Panglin, announced plans to sell it for up to $13 million so he could donate the proceeds to victims of the Sichuan earthquake. But that caused an uproar among Bruce Lee fans, who feared a new owner would bring in the wrecking balls.

After a vigorous preservation campaign by Lee's followers, Yu ultimately agreed to donate the home to Hong Kong if the government promised to turn it into a museum. On Jan. 6 Hong Kong's Commerce and Economic Bureau agreed to restore it to the same state as when the Lee lived there. A few obstacles remain. Yu said he will not hand it over until he sees and agrees to a comprehensive plan. Some are calling for a moviehouse and martial arts center to be added to the site to entice more tourists. But fans were generally satisfied. "I was very happy because I think they went with the original plan ... to preserve the house in the original state," says Hesstvedt. "I think that would do justice and be in the right spirit of Bruce Lee."

There are other Bruce Lee museums. One is in California, where he was born, and another is in his ancestral province in Guangdong, China. There are plans for yet another in Seattle, where Lee also lived. But Lee spent most of his childhood in Hong Kong, filmed his most famous movies there and eventually died in the Hong Kong home of his rumored mistress, Taiwanese actress Betty Ting Pei, from a reaction to a pain reliever. So it's fitting he be immortalized there, fans say. "In every corner of the globe, people recognize the existence of Hong Kong movies because of Bruce Lee," says Wong Yiu Keung. Now Hong Kong is returning the favor by preserving his memory.

History tells us 'How Bruce Lee Changed the World'

To mark the 35th anniversary of Bruce Lee's death, the History Channel will air a new two-hour documentary, HOW BRUCE LEE CHANGED THE WORLD beginning May 10th at 8pm ET. Produced in cooperation with Lee's family, this documentary looks at how the actor and martial artist's legacy has shaped and influenced the world since his death.

The special includes in-depth interviews with Jackie Chan, John Woo, comedian Eddie Griffin, hip-hop artists LL Cool J and RZA, Marvel Comics' Stan Lee, Brett Ratner, and Randy Couture among many others. There is also a rare interview with producer and Golden Harvest co-founder Raymond Chow.

The press release to promote the documentary (see below) states that Lee was the first person to use kung fu skills on screen without the aid of special effects. That statement is false. Real kung fu forms devoid of special effects were being featured on screen by real kung fu practitioners in the WONG FEI HUNG film series as early as 1949, several years before Lee even began training in martial arts.

I do not have access to the History Channel at the moment so maybe someone who ends up seeing this documentary can chime in with their thoughts on it. A DVD version from A&E Entertainment is slated for release on July 28th.

HOW BRUCE LEE CHANGED THE WORLD

Two-hour Special Presentation Premieres Sunday, May 10 at 8pm ET on HISTORY™

New York, April 2009 – Bruce Lee is universally recognized for prying open the doors of ancient Chinese martial arts to the mass market— defining a moment in an era when “everybody was kung fu fighting.” The history of Lee’s life, and death at the age of only 32, is shrouded in mystery, but his influence on popular culture continues to be felt today. HISTORY™ presents a special two-hour exploration of the Bruce Lee phenomenon. HOW BRUCE LEE CHANGED THE WORLD premieres Sunday, May 10 at 8pm ET on HISTORY™.

HOW BRUCE LEE CHANGED THE WORLD takes a detailed and unique look into Lee’s legacy— revealing the story of his rise from the backstreets of Hong Kong, while documenting Lee’s qualities, both physical and philosophical, that drove him to international stardom. More than just a biography, this special pieces together rare family archive and material owned by the Bruce Lee Foundation, together with in-depth interviews with individuals who continue to cite inspiration from Lee to this day.

Bruce Lee is known as one of the greatest martial artists of all time. His commitment to a principled approach of training, and an unparalleled skill and proficiency in all martial arts disciplines, resulted in the creation of one of the greatest physiques in modern history.

He was able to perform superhuman physical feats that have yet to be equaled, such as a two fingered push-up and a lethal blow called the one-inch punch, and was the first person to use kung fu skills on screen without the aid of special effects.

Since his death, Lee has been recognized as a visionary who changed not just action movies and martial arts, but an icon that created this very simple image that is endlessly reproducible to this day. From his role as Kato on television’s “Green Hornet” to his groundbreaking debut film “Enter the Dragon,” Lee blew up the stereotype of how Asian characters would be portrayed on screen forever. With no one able to fill the void after his death, a rash of Bruce Lee look-alikes and copycat films emerged inspiring a whole new film genre.

A cinematic journey, this special takes the viewer across the US, Asia and Europe exploring Lee’s influence on popular culture worldwide— even joining Shannon Lee on a trip back to her father’s roots in Hong Kong; nearly fifty years after Lee arrived to make his first kung fu film. HOW BRUCE LEE CHANGED THE WORLD also features in-depth interviews with actor Jackie Chan, comedian Eddie Griffin, rappers LL Cool J and RZA, Marvel Comics' Stan Lee, and renowned film directors John Woo and Brett Rattner among others. Lee’s friend and business partner famed Hong Kong film producer, Raymond Chow gives a rare interview.

HOW BRUCE LEE CHANGED THE WORLD is co-produced for HISTORY by Waddell Media and Leeway Productions. Executive producer for HISTORY is Dirk Hoogstra.

Time and time again, I have had to argue with Chinese purists aka the elders I know (my pops, uncles) who brush off Bruce Lee as a fad, who keep bringing up his womanizing ways, that Jeet Kune Do was just him jacking shit. "How Bruce Lee Changed The World" is a topic I been on the bandwagon since I picked up a pirated VHS of Chinese Connection where he wiped out a whole Japanese karate school. He not only brought charisma with intense kung fu skills, he added it with lessons in brotherhood, manhood, national pride, all with a subconcious flow and with a touch of comic flavor. He was "no homo" before his time, when the Chinese Traitor/Japanese Interpreter in "Way of the Dragon" aka "Return of the Dragon" tucked in his shirt after returning from the toilet and Bruce looked at him all weird. Jeet Kune Do is bringing the best of both worlds, his naysayers call it him jacking marital arts styles. To this day, he is credited to being the father of Mix Martial Arts. Go figure! Every action movie that followed. The Clint. The Arnold. The Stallone. Bows down to him, his over the top cartoon-ish methods of one man vs a nation of millions has led to the action genre that makes Hollywood Summer blockbuster the standard formula. And one must not forget his philosophy of being able to adapt to change no matter the circumstance - the "Be Water, My Friend" rant - this simple piece of advice can be applied to any situation, especially in times of adversity.

All this on top of him bringing Chinese national pride that can be on par of such Legenday Chinese like My Old Earth, Guan Gong, Sun Tzu, Confucius, Sun Yat-sen, Zhou Enlai. Bruce Lee is in that conversation because he brings Chinese into popular culture that has transcended upon generations across the world.

If Rika is my Female God, Bruce Lee is the male equivalent!!

Mad respect to Bruce!

I watched that documentary today and it's dope as hell. Man, I had no idea that Bruce has influenced everything from MMA to bodybuilding. Dude was like a fucking scientist! It's amazing how much he managed to accomplish in so little time. And Bruce was always keeping it real like no fucking trampolines or wires in his flicks. I was talking shit with my mainland homie and dude was like "Bruce is still like a God to us". I think one of the biggest reasons why Bruce is so special is that he's the first actor to truly unite all races. He was a hero to asians, blacks, whites, latinos, everybody! Shit, I bet even aliens would love Bruce XD

Quote
Fortune Star library coming to Blu-ray

Bruce Lee's four completed martial arts films - THE BIG BOSS, FIST OF FURY, WAY OF THE DRAGON and ENTER THE DRAGON - will be among the first run of films released to Blu-ray in a deal struck between Star's Fortune Star subsidiary and Hong Kong-based home video distributor Kam & Ronson. Fortune Star possesses the rights to over 600 titles, largely from the Golden Harvest film library. In recent years some of these titles have been licensed to American distributors such as Fox and The Weinstein Company for local release.

This new Blu-ray deal covers Hong Kong and Macau but the discs are expected to reach Singapore, Malasia and Thailand through other distributors. The Bruce Lee films on Blu-ray will be available at overseas and import retailers in June.

Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do

(http://www.imgur.com/files/090525/V3264.jpg) (http://www.twitter.com/?d=87QAMRQR)

is a VCD I have, a New Zealand production from 1995. Basically, it's like the Bruce Lee Jeet Kune Do training video pieced together  with rare home movies, interviews, and talking from Dan Inosanto and Brandon Lee.

I like the part where they go "The creedo of Jeet Kune Do"

I can finally get rid of my old VHS copy of Enter The Dragon! :twothumbs
(http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/6245/image3icj.jpg)
I realized that no martial arts DVD collection is complete without Bruce so I had to cop my favorite Bruce classics. The 2 disc Special Edition of ETD is dope as fuck cause it has like the best bonus features ever. Plenty of trailers, interviews, making of footage and even two long documentaries (A Warrior's Journey & Curse of the Dragon). What makes A Warrior's Journey the best Bruce documentary ever is the lost Game of Death footage. Seriously, GOD would have easily been Bruce's best movie if he had finished it.

Rare The Game Of Death fight clip - James Tien & Bruce Lee vs Dan Inosanto (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSsvl0Ryldg#lq-lq2-hq-vhq)

Fist of Fury Platinum Edition DVD has got to be the best FOF DVD. It's packed with bonus features and the audio commentary track by Bey Logan is fucking awesome. There's a dope interview Nora Miao where she explains why Bruce's fight scenes look so realistic. Bruce was actually beating up them stuntmen for real! Dudes would always have mad bruises after shooting scenes with Bruce XD

Nora Miao's FOF interview:

It's been 36 years now since his death, but you know that if he were still with us he'd STILL be able to kick the collective asses of at least two-thirds of the current crop of "martial arts" stars. :yep:

Bruce Lee museum, biopic unveiled

J.A. Media plans trilogy on kung fu master's life

HONG KONG -- A three-part biopic about martial arts king Bruce Lee is being made in cooperation with the family of Hong Kong's most famous native son, who died 36 years ago this week. The family is working with China's J.A. Media on "Bruce Lee," which will start shooting in October with Tony Leung Ka-fai as Lee's father. Additional cast and helmer have not yet been set. However, filmmaker Zhang Yimou has said many times that he is keen to shoot a film of Lee's life.

The three-parter will be produced by Li Chen and executive produced by multihyphenate Manfred Wong. Initial investment in the first movie will be 50 million yuan ($7.3 million) and it is scheduled for release on Nov. 27, 2010, the 70th anniversary of Lee's birth. Lee's brother, Robert, and sister, Phoebe, appeared at a press confab with J.A. Media for the project in Beijing on Monday. Robert Lee said he wanted to give an authoritative account of his brother's life. "We've read many books and seen many movies about Bruce Lee, but there are many inaccuracies in them," he said.

Siblings give blessing to Bruce Lee trilogy

A new, historically accurate attempt at filming the life of Bruce Lee is underway with the full support of the late martial arts superstar's older sister, Phoebe Lee, and younger brother, Robert Lee. The announcement was made with J.A. Media and Lee's siblings at a signing ceremony in Beijing on Monday, exactly 32 years after the death of Lee.

BRUCE LEE, a US$7.3 million production that will be the first entry in a planned trilogy, is set to begin production in October. Producer Manfred Wong said it will cover Lee's teenage years and focus more on his personality. "There will be kung fu…but more importantly, we want to portray the real Bruce Lee. What is the real Bruce Lee like? He was very humorous. He was very obedient to his parents. He was very kind to his family," said Wong.

Robert Lee stated that while he had read many books and watched many movies about Bruce Lee they had many inaccuracies. Phoebe Lee added, "I'm more than 70 years old. I'm old. I want to do something for my younger brother – to promote Bruce Lee's life story." No announcement has been made on who will portray Lee but Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Ka-fai has been selected to play his father. Likewise, no director has been named but Variety reports that Zhang Yimou has repeatedly expressed interest in helming a film about Lee's life. BRUCE LEE is scheduled for release on Nov. 27, 2010 which will be the 70th anniversary of Lee's birth.

Bruce Lee mania is on the rise again. Most recently, The History Channel aired the documentary HOW BRUCE LEE CHANGED THE WORLD. Chinese state broadcaster CCTV recently aired THE LEGEND OF BRUCE LEE, a 50-part prime-time TV drama starring Danny Chan (KUNG FU HUSTLE) as Lee. A young Bruce Lee will be appearing in IP MAN 2, the sequel to director Wilson Yip's biopic of Lee's Wing Chun instructor with Donnie Yen in the lead. Yen is also planning to portray Chen Zhen for a second time. The character was the semi-fictional student of Huo Yuanjia and was originally played by Bruce Lee in FIST OF FURY and again by Jet Li in FIST OF LEGEND. Another character first portrayed by Lee may be heading to theaters in the U.S. as comic actor Seth Rogen gears up to star in THE GREEN HORNET with a still unknown actor portraying Kato, the role Bruce Lee became famous in.

I'm excited about the trilogy but shit, I seriously can't see anybody playing Bruce. NOBODY can emulate Bruce's swagger :theking

Official Bruce Lee website arrives

For as long as I have been on the internet, I have wondered why no one ever did anything with the domain "brucelee.com." Infrequent visits over the years were met with a single page, either promising future content or displaying ads. Apparently, a cyber squatter purchased rights to the domain years ago and simply sat on it. Times have changed. Bruce Lee Enterprises, the company which manages the Bruce Lee brand name finally acquired the domain and just unveiled the Official Website of Bruce Lee.

The Flash-intensive site is a multimedia experience containing music, video clips, and images of Bruce Lee. There is also a biography of Bruce Lee, a blog with an introductory message from Lee's daughter Shannon and a small store to purchase Bruce Lee-related merchandise.

This is the latest venture for Shannon Lee after executive producing the documentary HOW BRUCE LEE CHANGED THE WORLD through her production company Leeway Media. The documentary premiered on The History Channel and was recently released on DVD. Clips can also be found on the new Bruce Lee site.

Shannon writes that she intends to use the blog as a way to keep fans up to date on happenings related to the world of Bruce Lee. On her video blog, also available on the site, Shannon states that the site will be constantly evolving with new content and merchandise continuously being added.

Content is on the slim side at the moment but the project looks promising, certainly better than what that cyber squatter had for a waste of good space. All that seems to be missing structurally is some sort of a community portal for fans to congregate. However, they seem to be relying on Facebook, Myspace and Twitter for that as they have channels set up in each social network site.

Bruce Lee – Gone but Never Forgotten

Despite the countless number of people around the world that idolize Bruce Lee, it goes without saying that his biggest fan is still his daughter, Shannon. You can hear it in her voice the second she begins talking about the legendary martial artist and film star. “Somebody said to me one time, ‘what’s it like being Bruce Lee’s daughter; is that just so crazy?’” she recalls. “And I said, it’s amazing, and it’s my life. It’s always been my life and it’s me.”

As CEO of Bruce Lee Enterprises, Shannon Lee has also been tasked with protecting the legacy of her father, who passed away 36 years ago today (July 20). His death at the age of 32 was undoubtedly tragic, but to see the influence he had in such a brief time is nothing short of amazing. It’s something Shannon wants to get across through the re-launch of the Brucelee.com and Bruceleefoundation.org websites, which go live this Thursday, July 23rd.

The Brucelee.com website will be a one-stop destination for all fans of ‘The Dragon,’ featuring a full biography, a timeline, FAQs, a video player containing classic video clips as well as a behind the scenes look at Bruce Lee Enterprises, photo galleries, wallpaper, an online store and a Shannon Lee blog. Meanwhile, the Bruceleefoundation.org site will focus on the extensive charity work done by the foundation. It’s all part of Shannon Lee’s mission to reintroduce the world to her father and his work, with one of the first steps being the recent History Channel documentary ‘How Bruce Lee Changed The World.’

“I was thrilled with the documentary because it had one of the messages that I really wanted to get out there, which is that one of the reasons why I think he’s still so prevalent is because he has influenced popular culture in so many different ways and I wanted people to understand what that influence has been in so many different genres and areas,” she said. “I was really grateful to get that message out.” Of course, when it comes to Bruce Lee and his influence, you’re preaching to the choir if you ask most people, including welterweight rising star Ben Saunders, who studies Lee’s Jeet Kune Do concepts.

“He’s one of the greatest martial artists of all-time,” said Saunders. “His influence to me definitely went beyond the films. He just has a presence about him and he influenced so many aspects of everyday life. It’s not just the martial artists. Everyone in the film industry sees him for what he accomplished there, and on top of that he was a philosopher and a martial artist. Most of the people that don’t know anything about martial arts can see from his films that he just had a presence and charisma that connected with the audience. But to also have serious martial artists hold him in high regard shows that he’s the real deal.”

A true renaissance man, Lee may have reached a mainstream fanbase due to his films and iconic presence, but he also made his mark as a trailblazer for Asian actors and directors, as well as a philosopher and a martial artist. And as Shannon Lee points out, the first impression of her father is what usually captivates people, but if you look deeper, you’ll find an extremely complex man.

“I think the thing that always grabs people initially is the visual image of him,” she said. “You see the movies, you see some clips, you see pictures, and he’s just amazing – the way he moves, his physicality, his body, everything. But he also did so much in such a short amount of time and he broke down so many barriers. He’s credited with essentially introducing martial arts action movies to the western world, (UFC President) Dana (White) considers him the father of mixed martial arts, and he was the first one to break out of the mold and to get Asians and Asian culture to be prevalent on screen and in general.”

Saunders certainly agrees with White’s assertion that Lee was the ‘Father of Mixed Martial Arts’, saying that Lee’s influence has been felt by all fighters in the game today. “I’d say that anybody who’s a mixed martial artist, whether they got their influence directly from him or not, I think he’s the number one influence in North America of mixed martial artists,” he said. “Any mixed martial artist that’s going to evolve, especially in this day and age, you have to have the philosophy to be open minded and try everything out. Some people practice it more than others, but at some point there has to be some open-mindedness.”

“There are people who say ‘he’s influenced me so much in my fighting and my training,’ and there are also people who just acknowledge his contribution,” adds Shannon Lee. “Whether they’re directly influenced on a daily level by his legacy, his philosophies, or his martial arts, they still understand his contribution. There’s an appreciation for the level of skill that he had and the level of training and commitment he had.” From fighters to fans to everyone in between, there is no doubting the impact Bruce Lee has had on the world. And thanks to Shannon Lee, a new generation will continue to learn more about the man she calls ‘Dad’.

“Let’s face it, he was cool,” she smiles. “He had style, he would talk really cool, and he was this quintessential 70’s guy. But if you want to go a little deeper, you see the philosophies he had, all the amazing things he said, and there are so many layers to him. He was so far ahead of his time, so you can look at him with today’s eyes and he’s still relevant.”

Awesome. I love how Shannon is taking over. I remember when BruceLee.com was the shittiest piece of shit site there was. An insult to the great LEGEND DRAGON. :hipheart: more or less follow his philosophies. Really dope he's being shown to a new generation of fans. CAPITALIZE!! Like in that scene with Nora in "Way of the Dragon" she shows him the old architecture of Rome and Bruce Lee is like "The Fuck?! Whatta waste of space. In Hong Kong we'd build skyscrapers and collect the rent!"

Bruce Lee was the MAN! Loved his movies and I've read his books - his philosophy spoke to me. I adopted it as my own. The man was a legend through and through. Inspired me to take up martial arts and sparked an interest in philosophy.

RZA talking about Bruce Lee:
Quote
AVC: You’re also involved in the upcoming remake of The Last Dragon.

RZA: Yeah, Sony owns the rights to it, and we—me, Sam Jackson—both signed on as producers and potential actors in it, so that’s something that we’re waiting for them to get together. We got [original Last Dragon producer] Berry Gordy, his family’s involved with it as well. There’s been a new script out already, but to me, they didn’t nail it, so I sent the writer some books he should read, and I gave him a few pages. I’m not the writer, but I helped him out, gave him five pages of information, sent him some books so he could really make a story that’d resonate with today’s times for The Last Dragon. But I want to keep the martial-art integrity, parts that the first one may have lost, because the other guy was in love with Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee is still the master, still the greatest, but maybe his popularity in cinema is not the same as it was in the ’80s, because in the ’80s, you were still getting Bruce Lee releases. They Call Me Bruce?, Bruce Lee Fights Back From The Grave, and all these movies. Every year, a Bruce Lee movie would come out. There hasn’t been nothing about Bruce Lee in years. But The Last Dragon lives on as a cult classic, as an urban movie now, so we’ve got to find a way to incorporate martial arts in a way that still has a strong integrity, because The Last Dragon, Bruce Lee brought the integrity to it. So what can we bring to it in our day? I sent the writer a lot of books on things that are happening now in the martial-art world, a few true stories that he may not have known about that happened in the 1940s and ’50s, right before Bruce Lee migrated to America and brought some secrets through some other people that were doing a few secret things in the martial-art world, and their books have been published in the last 20 years. So I just gave him a lot of advice like that.

AVC: You don’t think Bruce Lee is timeless?

RZA: Bruce Lee is definitely timeless, but at the same time, the integrity of his martial art may not be as widely known now as it was then. Because Bruce Lee wasn’t only a good martial artist, he’s a good actor. Someone might say he’s a good-looking guy as well. He looks good on the screen, he’s great on the screen. So that’s one thing about him. To me, I consider Bruce Lee what the Koran would call a “minor prophet.” I think he’s a prophet, actually, because his wisdom, and the things he said, if you ever hear interviews or read some of his books, you could see that he really was on a special level.

As long as RZA keeps the scene in The Last Dragon when Sho'Nuff coming into the movie theater with his gang and Enter The Dragon is on the screen (or any other Bruce Lee movie) then I would be set.

They have to keep Sho'Nuff's signature monologue:

Quote
Sho’Nuff: Am I the meanest?
Gang: Sho’Nuff!
Sho’Nuff: Am I the prettiest?
Gang: Sho’Nuff!
Sho’Nuff: Am I the baddest mo-fo, low-down, around this town?
Gang: Sho’Nuff!
Sho’Nuff: Well, who am I?
Gang: Sho’Nuff!
Sho’Nuff: Who am I?
Gang: Sho’Nuff!
Sho’Nuff: I can’t hear you!
Gang: Sho’Nuff!
Sho’Nuff: The Shogun of Harlem!

More than just a kung fu and cinematic legend, Bruce Lee's
philosophy has influenced my life and has been subconsciously
applied to how :hipheart: is run. Taking the Best of the Best,
being shapeless, formless, like water. Jeet Kune Do has taught
us to not be slaves of fixed patterns.

Jeet Kune Do favors formlessness so that it can assume all forms
and since Jeet Kune Do has no style, it can fit in with all styles. As a
result, Jeet Kune Do utilizes all ways and is bound by none and, likewise,
uses any techniques which serve its end.

Is it a Perv site? Is it a Rika site? Is it KPH!P? JPHiP fits Jeet Kune
Do in all of the above.

Like how Bruce Lee took in students of all races in his Seattle
school so many years ago, we too blend fans, websites, and
nations into this giant pink ass. We all seek The Tru+h, and
that it can be solved with a  :fap

To continue to find self knowledge and improve oneself, is
what daigong continues to do.

As we’ve reported, the Nike Zoom Kobe V will initially release on December 25th through the NikeiD program. In 2010, however, the Kobe V will begin to release in Nike constructed color-ups.

One such color-up is this Bruce Lee edition. Nike created this look for the V to assuage Kobe’s affinity for Kung Fu. The yellow upper and laces allude to the yellow bodysuit Bruce Lee wore in “The Game of Death” and is, of course, fitting for the Lakers. There are also four red scratch marks on the lateral toe area. These marks duplicate the scratches Bruce Lee took while fighting in “Enter the Dragon”.

The Bruce Lee Kobe Vs will be a Spring/Summer 2010 global release. They are, however, available now at select spots across the nation for a hefty price. Click here to view additional photos.

The Collection 3.0: Nike Zoom Kobe V Bruce Lee

Much of the inspiration behind the design of the Nike Zoom Kobe V comes from the global game of football - or soccer, depending on your passport.

This version of the shoe features details inspired by Bruce Lee. The Black Mamba has professed his respect and appreciation for Bruce Lee and his martial arts philosophy of Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do (振藩截拳道), or "Bruce Lee's Way of the Intercepting Fist."

The Nike Zoom Kobe V Bruce Lee will be in stores on February 6. Until then, check out the photos below.

Bruce Lee residence competition won by Hong Kong team :brucelee:

Results for the Bruce Lee residence restoration competition came out over the weekend. The venue at 41 Cumberland Road in Kowloon Tong was where Lee spent his final days before his death at age 32 in 1973.

For years the venue was rented out by the hour as a love motel. But that’s about to change as the government announced plans to restore the iconic venue. The Ideas Competition for Bruce Lee's Residence drew over 140 entries from around the globe.

A Hong Kong team, consisting of Cheung Kwai-yin and landscape architect Jimmy Yuen, won in the professional category of the design contest. The design, titled Journey of the Little Dragon, features a vaulting exhibition hall with an undulating ceiling, and a mirrored room named Tower of Death.

Although the government didn't promise to adopt the designs fully, a Tourism Commission spokesman said the entries will “provide very creative ideas and concepts to restore the residence.”

The top three designs are on display at Hong Kong City Hall from now until February 4, at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre from February 9 to 16, and at Shatin Town Hall from February 23 to March 6.

The periodical "Bruce Lee Lives" is a special feature printed by Hong Kong International Film Festival Society that aims to bring back memories for fans who love and adore him.

Bruce Lee's daughter, Li Xiangning, and his widow, Linda Lee Cadwell, will attend to share the private belongings of Bruce Lee with fans.

The exhibition will be open free to the public from March 30 to April 6 at the Hong Kong Cultural Center.

The Hong Kong Film Festival is organizing a whole range of activity to commemorate the legend Bruce Lee. The other night, the Cultural Center held its opening ceremony for the exhibition of "Bruce Lee 7010". Bruce's widow Linda Lee Cadwell, daughter Shannon and granddaughter attended the event. Shannon revealed that she hasn't seen some of the exhibits. She also said her father was unique. He created Jeet Kune Do (截拳道) which has made a vast development all over the world. Although Bruce has died for so many years, he is still seen as an icon.

Shannon knows about the plan to build a Bruce Lee's museum in Hong Kong. She has also seen the competition entries. Apart from having Bruce's former residence restored to look exactly like it was when Shannon was little, a cafe and a cinema will be built also. Shannon is happy to donate some of his relics for the museum as well. As Hong Kong was her father's home, it is also important to her. On the other hand, the Governor of Seattle is also planning to build a Bruce Lee museum too!

Shannon only stays in Hong Kong for 4 days. She loves dimsum; in particular har gau (蝦餃) and siu mai (燒賣). Shannon's daughter is only 7 years old but she is very proud of her granddad Bruce.

A biopic about Bruce Lee will mark the 70th anniversary of the late action hero's birth on November 27 of this year, M1905.com reports.

Filming of "Bruce Lee" is expected to begin at the end of next month, the report says. It is slated for release before November 27.

The film will tell Bruce Lee's pre-stardom story. Hong Kong-based singer-turned-actor Aarif Lee will play young Bruce.
Aarif Lee was named Best Newcomer at this year's Hong Kong Film Awards in April for his performance in the family drama "Echoes of the Rainbow".

Manfred Wong, producer of "Bruce Lee", says Aarif's appearance in "Echoes of the Rainbow" reminded him of Bruce Lee, and that he thinks Aarif is the ideal actor for the role.

Karen Mok and Tony Leung Ka-Fai will play Bruce Lee's parents. The film will be helmed by "Bodyguards and Assassins" assistant director Wai-Man Yip.

Bruce Lee's Adventures in Oakland (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vnyv0Rmj_gE#)

Oaklandish's mini-documentary about Bruce Lee's history in Oakland, California, where he opened a martial arts school in the late 1960s and had a historic fight with Wong Jak Man over Lee's teaching of karate to white people. Now, Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums hopes that the former studio, currently a car dealership, will be officially recognized as an important place in history. From the Bay Citizen:

Quote
The mayor (himself an avid martial artist) wanted a plaque placed on the site of the old studio in time for a martial arts tournament he hoped Oakland would host later this year. The tournament is off, but the Landmark Advisory Commission is still considering making 4175 Broadway one of the city’s cultural heritage sites.
The discussion is more significant than a piece of brass on the wall of a car dealership. Finding the best way for the city to acknowledge Bruce Lee’s time in Oakland would provide a sorely needed precedent for recognizing other cultural contributions made in Oakland, said Dan Schulman, a member of the Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board. From events as significant as the drafting of the Black Panthers’ 10-Point Program in North Oakland in 1966 to less-weighty moments like the invention of the Mai Tai at Trader Vic’s at 65th Street and San Pablo Avenue three decades earlier, Oakland needs a method to officially recognize its past.

Tokyo International Film Festival to honor Bruce Lee

The 23rd Tokyo International Film Festival is to honor Bruce Lee, the Hong Kong actor credited with making kung fu movies popular, with a retrospective of some of his most famous titles.

Thirty years after his death, Lee remains a legendary figure in the worlds of both martial arts and film, the organizers of the festival said.

"The 70th Anniversary: Bruce Lee to the Future" tribute will be part of the Winds of Asia Middle-East section at the festival, which opens at the main Roppongi Hills venue on October 23.

Best known for headlining in Enter the Dragon - which was only released after his death in 1973 - Lee has continued to inspire modern movie makers. The retrospective will include a screening of the rare version of Game of Death that was distributed in Japan in 1978, as well a number of films that pay tribute to Lee, including the 2010 kung fu comedy Gallants, directed by Derek Kwok, and the Vietnam film The Legend is Alive, by Luu Huynh Luu.

The organizers of the festival have also named award-winning Irish filmmaker Neil Jordan as president of the jury. Jordan won an Oscar for The Crying Game and his second film, Company of Wolves, was selected for the first year of the TIFF competition section in 1985.

Negotiations are still ongoing for the final lineup for this year's festival, with the titles in the competition vying for the Tokyo Sakura Grand Prix. Last year's award went to Kamen Kalev, director of Eastern Plays.

In total, 743 films from 81 countries and regions were screened last year, making TIFF one of the key film festivals in Asia and, increasingly, in the world. It was first held in in 1985, initially every two years, but it has been staged every autumn since 1991. In Asia, it competes with other movie festivals in Hong Kong and Pusan as the biggest and most influential movie event.

Organizers are again keen to emphasize the environment-awareness side of the event and will again be rolling out a green carpet - instead of the more traditional red carpet - to welcome stars of the big screen.

Tokyo International Film Festival

October 23-31

Venues: Main venue at Roppongi Hills but also at other theaters and halls across Tokyo.

Bruce Lee's Fighting Method, Vol. 1: Self-Defense Techniques
Long before mixed martial arts became a worldwide phenomenon and Ultimate Fighting became a household name, Bruce Lee created jeet kune do, a realistic combat hybrid that incorporated the most useful elements of kung fu, boxing and fencing. With Bruce Lee's Fighting Method: Self-Defense Techniques, the legendary fighter demonstrates the most effective methods for retaliating against surprise attacks, grabs, chokes, multiple attackers and armed assailants. UFC fighter Dan Hardy finds inspiration at Bruce Lee's grave

SEATTLE - Dan Hardy was caught by an emotional punch he didn't see coming.

The Englishman who dyes his Mohawk red and bears the nickname "The Outlaw" was at a cemetery here, seated in front of the grave of Bruce Lee.

"I owe him a lot," Hardy said.

He stopped, clenched his jaw and waited to keep the tears from overflowing.

"He helped a lot through my journey here," Hardy said.

Turns out there is a soulful side to fighting, one that Hardy embodies quite poignantly. He spent years taking martial-arts classes as a kid. He traveled to Northern China to train for two months with Shaolin monks at the age of 20. And on Thursday he went to the grave of one of the most famous martial artists and, by chance, met Lee's close friend, Taky Kimura.

The result was an afternoon that was unexpectedly moving for Hardy.

"I don't want this to sound disrespectful," he said. "I kind of treated it as a bit of a sightseeing kind of thing, to see Bruce Lee's grave. But to be here, I kind of got something else from it."

Hardy, 28, has become one of the Ultimate Fighting Championship's most exciting fighters, someone with heavy hands and a sharp wit. On Saturday at KeyArena, he will fight Anthony Johnson in the second-to-last bout of the evening and one that very well may be the most entertaining. ("UFC Live" airs at 10 p.m. EDT on Spike TV.)

But on Thursday, Hardy set out like a tourist to see the grave of a man who died nine years before Hardy was born. Lee's legacy, though, spans generations.

"To contribute so much, to be inspiring people that were born many years after him, is just amazing," Hardy said. "We all aspire to something like that."

For all the tough talk and head kicks of mixed martial arts, there is a spiritual side to this business. It requires discipline and demands respect, and somewhere at the core of every fighter is the desire to test and improve himself.

Hardy read books by Lee. He watched DVDs. And Lee was a large part of Hardy's training with his grandfather, who died last year.

Hardy began taking martial-arts classes at the age of 6 because he loved the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." He kept training as he grew up, moving on to taekwondo, then kickboxing.

Before training with the Shaolin monks in China, he had been an art student at Nottingham University, never leaving home for an extended period. Suddenly he was on the other side of the globe, in a whole different world.

"This was staying in an old castle on the side of a mountain, training in a forest," Hardy said. "It almost seems more like a movie that I watched than something I did myself."

It may be hard to see the UFC's eight-sided cage as the modern embodiment of ancient fighting traditions, but elements of different fighting disciplines are woven throughout the sport.

"The art is within the fights themselves," Hardy said. "I'm an athlete, but first and foremost I'm a martial artist."

Anyone who doubts that should consider the reaction of Kimura, who was one of Lee's closest friends and the best man at his wedding. By chance, Kimura was at his friend's grave Thursday when Hardy arrived and was only too happy to meet him.

It was a reminder, Kimura said, of just how strong his friend's legacy truly is.

"Even after all these years that Bruce has been gone, it just brings it back into focus again," Kimura said. "Because Bruce was a guy that was one of the greatest martial artists on the face of the earth."

It's that legacy that moved Hardy to tears Thursday.

Enterbay swings for the fences with their latest Bruce Lee collectible. The Bruce Lee: Behind the Scene Real Masterpiece is a Limited Edition 1:6 scale action figure depicting the "Little Dragon" from his final, partially-completed film Game of Death. As expected, the figure comes clothed in the iconic yellow tracksuit Bruce wore during the climactic series of duels – but that's just the beginning for what could be the most impressive action figure of Bruce Lee ever made.

Enterbay has developed a new poseable action figure body with a special rubber coating for a realistic skin-like texture. The figure can be displayed with or without shirt, and also with one of two heads! The "Battle-Damaged" head features an intense-looking expression with poseable eyes courtesy of Enterbay's "E-Vision" system. The alternative head depicts a smiling expression, the headsculpt perfectly capturing Bruce's charismatic, confident smile. In addition, the figure comes with seven pairs of interchangeable hands and two versions of his yellow tracksuit, one clean and the other "Battle-Damaged." Both suits are made with real fabrication for a more authentic feel.

Rounding out the collectible is a treasure trove of accessories, including some props seen in the film, like Bruce's yellow nunchuks (with case), and also his green bamboo stick. The figure can be posed against a wooden background stage along with many "Behind-the-Scene" accessories, including a studio stage light (with working USB-powered led light), a 70s-style handheld film camera, a wooden Director's Chair, a vintage megaphone and a movie clapperboard. Comes with figure stand in deluxe numbered packaging, limited to only 5000 sets worldwide! Final product may vary slightly from pictured prototype. An officially licensed product of Bruce Lee Enterprises, LLC.

If ever I had some sheflspace, i'd put this with a Guan Yu figure :brucelee:

Bruce Lee Museum Put on Hold

Efforts to build a Bruce Lee museum in the late kung fu movie star’s hometown of Hong Kong have been stalled again.

Fans have been calling for an official tribute to the screen icon for years. Their hopes appeared to be answered two years ago when the Hong Kong government and the owner of Mr. Lee’s former home reached an agreement to convert the property — a two-story house currently used as an hourly love motel — into a museum.

But the Hong Kong government said Sunday that negotiations with the owner, businessman Yu Pang-lin, have broken down.

“Despite our efforts, we are unable to reach a consensus with the property owner over the scope of the restoration,” the government said in a statement.

The statement did not elaborate.

An operator who answered the phone at Mr. Yu’s offices in the southern Chinese city Shenzhen on Sunday said that his staff wasn’t in.

Wong Yiu-keung, president of the Hong Kong Bruce Lee Club, said Mr. Yu made unreasonable demands, such as wanting to set up his own offices in the museum.

“Mr. Yu made such a high-profile gesture by donating the property, and yet we now realize those are not his intentions. We are very disappointed. I don’t understand why he backtracked,” Mr. Wong told The Associated Press in a phone interview.

Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee, who was also involved in the project, didn’t immediately respond to an email sent to a publicist for the Bruce Lee Foundation seeking comment. Shannon Lee had also been raising funds for a museum in Seattle, where her father studied and taught martial arts.

The Hong Kong government said the Bruce Lee artifacts it had collected for the planned museum will be used for an exhibit at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum that is expected to launch in late 2012.

Mr. Lee became a source of Chinese pride by portraying characters who defended the Chinese and the working class from oppressors in films like “Return of the Dragon.” He died in Hong Kong in 1973 at age 32 from swelling of the brain.

The late actor has been honored with a statue on Hong Kong’s Avenue of Stars, a waterfront promenade featuring the hand prints of the southern Chinese territory’s noted actors.

News of the shelved museum plans was first reported by the South China Morning Post on Sunday.

Bruce Lee’ signature fragrances launched

Shannon Lee, daughter of legend Bruce Lee along with French company, Chkoudra Paris and the local partner Shaikh Mohd. Saeed Establishment, launched Signature Bruce Lee fragrances in Dubai.

The fragrances are targeted at men and will be manufactured in France to be distributed in many countries.

Chkoudra Paris, which specialises in prestigious brands and licences, has partnered with Bruce Lee Enterprises to create the first perfume collection under the Bruce Lee brand.

Speaking at the launch, Lee said, "I am delighted to be associated with Chkoudra Paris and launch our product across other regions. Globally we will be announcing several new initiatives, events and plans for 2012 to keep the powerful legacy of my father, Bruce Lee alive.”

Targeted at the male audience, the brand has currently three fragrances: ‘Be Water’, ‘Don’t Think, Feel’, and ‘Anger Blinds’.

"The main values for the perfumes are derived from Bruce Lee’s real life personality. The product will be competitively priced to reach out to the masses, especially people who actively practice sport, quality conscious connoisseurs and fans of Bruce Lee," she added.

Lee is the highly active CEO of Bruce Lee Enterprises seeking to preserve, perpetuate and educate people about Bruce Lee’s life example, philosophies and Jeet Kune Do, a martial art and life philosophy founded by the legendary martial artist.

Bruce Lee was named as one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Important People of the Century as one of the greatest heroes and icons.

Mahmoud Chkaoudara, CEO of Chkoudra Paris, said, "We are honored to have established a relationship with Bruce Lee Enterprises and are looking forward to spread the signature Bruce Lee fragrances across the globe."

"‘Some people are born strong’, is the idea behind the new Bruce Lee fragrances. The fragrance ‘Don’t think, Feel’ is designed for self confident men full of inner strength. This is a sentimental fragrance that emphasizes originality and style."

"The second fragrance ‘Be Water’ is created for men who want to differentiate themselves by being calm and reactive like an echo. This perfume is a dedication for men wanting to be remembered as charismatic, stylish and elegant," he explained.

The third fragrance ‘Anger Blinds’ is a unique perfume that is aimed at the trendy and sensual audience, he added.

Shaikh Mohd Ali Saeed, CEO of the Shaikh Mohd Saeed Establishment said as per a recent study the Middle East fragrance market, currently valued at $3.5 billion, will be one of the fastest growing segments of the industry worldwide in the next five years.

“In addition to increased demand for generic fragrances, we believe that celebrity perfumes will set the pace for rapid market expansion. Men’s perfume category is projected to grow at a rapid pace, underpinning today’s male’s desire to both look and smell good," he remarked.

“With a mixture of both traditional Arabian perfumes and well known international brands, the Middle East Fragrance industry is at a significant point in its growth trajectory," observed Satish Chandwani, head of Sales, Shaikh Mohd Saeed Establishment.

"We have seen the market grow over the years and we strongly believe that the Bruce Lee Fragrances brand will be a big hit amongst the male audience," he added.

Johnnie Walker Whiskey’s Newest Ad Features a Resurrected CGI Bruce Lee
July 10, 2013 // 1:31 pm // By: Dominique Zamora

Maybe this is what happens when you get a lifelong believer in clean living sloshed.

To promote its popular Blue Label line, Johnnie Walker whiskey has just launched a new 90-second ad featuring none other than the famously sober, late martial arts legend Bruce Lee, resurrected through computer graphics onto a balcony in posh modern day Hong Kong. Dubbed a “short inspirational film sponsored by Johnnie Walker” by director Joseph Kahn — as opposed to a strict commercial — the spot follows a distant, slightly glazed-looking Lee spouting platitudes about dragons and water and walking, all in service of selling something his living self didn’t support in the first place (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/helena.camilleri/brucelee/faqfacts.html).

Granted, Kahn did bring Lee’s daughter Shannon on board to advise the project (to ensure “accuracy”), and okay, he did release that disclaimer that the spot “isn’t about drinking, nor does Bruce Lee ever pitch, hold, talk about it [alcohol].” But you still can’t help but wish all the effort to bring the Enter the Dragon star back to life were spent somewhere a little less lushy. Get on it, Gatorade.

Quote from: Joseph Khan's VIMEO post
his is my latest ad - for Johnnie Walker Blue Label in China.

It stars Bruce Lee.

You should watch it first then come back and read the rest.

Seriously, watch it first.

OK.

The making of the ad:

My good friend BBH Creative Executive Johnny Tan and I first talked about doing this concept a year ago. We shot it in Hong Kong, and then we worked with vfx company The Mill in London to create a completely CGI Bruce Lee over nine months. EVERY shot of his head and every detail in there is completely cgi. We got Shannon Lee, Bruce Lee's daughter, to come aboard and we really picked her brain to make sure that everything was accurate from look to soul. We wanted to be as respectful to the man and legend as we could.

A big thank you to Johnny, Shannon, Mill, and everyone who tirelessly worked on this.

ADDITIONAL STATEMENT 7/10/13:

This spot isn't about drinking, nor does Bruce Lee ever pitch, hold, talk about it. It's a short inspirational film sponsored by Johnnie Walker. Those making comparisons of "water" to "alcohol" are literalists & wrong. Last thing alcohol wants to be is water. It's a metaphor for life. It's his metaphor in his actual words. I spent a year living and breathing this man, thinking about him every day. For me, it's not an ad. It's an exploration & celebration of him. This is a sculpture in a different medium, paid for by a different church. I stand behind it.

Some notes of Bruce Lee have been found!! INSPIRATION!! :brucelee:

Quote
(http://picroda.jphip.com/misc/jphip09241.jpg)

Although Lee has many fans, what most don't know is that he was a very contemplative guy who was truly obsessed with incorporating his philosophy (a mixture of Asian beliefs and Western [positive] psychology) into his every day life and his career.

In order to do so more effectively, Lee always carried a 2"×3″ pocketbook with him. This pocketbook didn't only serve as an agenda, but also as his personal notebook. Lee wrote notes to and for himself. As a result, they are filled with his personal philosophy.

The aforementioned Brain Pickings website got special permission from the Bruce Lee Estate to publish some of the notes. That's great in itself, but what's even better is that these notes are extremely interesting and useful, not only for Lee's most passionate fans, but for everybody who wants to make his or her life a successful one.

WILL POWER: —

Recognizing that the power of will is the supreme court over all over departments of my mind, I will exercise it daily, when I need the urge to action for any purpose; and I will form HABIT designed to bring the power of my will into action at least once daily

EMOTION: —

Realizing that my emotions are both POSITIVE and negative I will form daily HABITS which will encourage the development of the POSITIVE EMOTIONS, and aid me in converting the negative emotions into some form of useful action.

REASON: —

Recognizing that both my positive & negative emotions may be dangerous if they are not controlled and guided to desirable ends, I will submit all my desires, aims and purposes to my faculties of reason, and I will be guided by it in giving expression to these.

IMAGINATION: —

Recognizing the need for sound PLANS and IDEAS for the attainment of my desires, I will develop my imagination by calling upon it daily for help in the formation of my plans.

MEMORY: —

Recognizing the value of an alert memory, I will encourage mine to become alert by taking care to impress it clearly with all thoughts I wish to recall, and by associating those thoughts with related subjects which I may call to mind frequently.

SUBCONSCIOUS MIND: —

Recognizing the influence of my subconscious mind over my power of will, I shall take care to submit to it a clear and definite picture of my CLEAR PURPOSE in life and all minor purposes leading to my major purpose, and I shall keep this picture CONSTANTLY BEFORE my subconscious mind by REPEATING IT DAILY.

CONSCIENCE: —

Recognizing that my emotions often err in their over-enthusiasm, and my faculty of reason often is without the warmth of feeling that is necessary to enable me to combine justice with mercy in my judgments, I will encourage my conscience to guide me as to what is right & what is wrong, but I will never set aside the verdicts it renders, no matter what may be the cost of carrying them out.

WAH!! Bruce Lee was supposed to star in this series WARRIOR! Now they gonna film it with Shannon Lee as producer:

Bruce Lee is kicking his way back from the grave. Like many other creative people who pass away before their time, the late Lee left behind a number of unfinished projects. In this case the subject is Warrior, the pilot for a new Cinemax television series that's being developed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious, Star Trek Beyond) and Banshee co-creator Jonathan Tropper. The proposed crime drama is based on Lee's handwritten notes discovered by his daughter, Shannon, who will serve as a producer as part of Bruce Lee Entertainment.

According to Deadline, the show will be “set against the backdrop of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the aftermath of the Civil War [and] tells the story of a young martial arts prodigy, newly arrived from China, who finds himself caught up in the bloody Chinatown Tong wars.”

Lee died in 1973 of a cerebral edema. At the time he was wrapping up post-production on his most famous film, Enter The Dragon, and in the midst of directing Game Of Death. The latter was nonetheless finished (despite the loss of Lee) and released in 1978 as a bastardized version of what he had created, though the existing footage, more accurately reflecting his intention, was edited together for the 2000 documentary Bruce Lee: A Warrior’s Journey.. (http://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/bruce-lee-new-series-lost-adventures/)

Said documentary. NOT BAD THOUGH! I think I have this on VCD somewhere, really DEEP!  :hip smile:
