IOI is a South Korean girl group consisting of the eleven winners of the first season of Mnet's idol survival show, Produce 101. The group consists of trainees from 8 different agencies and is by design temporary. They will promote until February 2017 under YMC Entertainment, after which the girls will return to their original agencies. The promotions will officially start on May 4th, 2016.

Crush was a song the top 22 performed in the finals. A backstage sort of "MV" was released as a treat to the fans a few days after the show, re-recorded with the top 11.

This is actually the second version. The first one had a lot more Yeonjung (#11) and a lot less Yoojung (#3) among other things, so people complained, coz that's what people do. Guess it's more balanced now, even if they went a little crazy with editing Yeonjung almost completely out.

Produce 101 was one of my favorite idol-related things in a long time. On top of that, most of my favorites during the show made it into the final group. The show was a huge success and produced a highly visual and competent girl group. Two great vocals and several good ones, some great dancers, a couple of decent rappers, some weirdos, a ton of different personalities... it's all there. The only real bummer is that this isn't permanent, but at least it's a taste of the future girlgroups from various agencies.

The girls recently moved into a dorm and are now filming another reality show while preparing for the May debut with a new song. They're also busy with filming a constant stream of commercials etc. so there should be new stuff rolling in soon again.

Now that the group is decided on I'm all confused what to do with it like, I'm supposed to be able to pick a favourite here? And what now? :lol: This is why girl groups usually have 'supporting members', like the level of this group is so nuts. It has about 57 members who could be the visual, the dancer, the rapper, the main vocal, or just a generally super charismatic performer. Nobody is the "weak link" here, and certainly not Sohye even if she lacks in skills.

So I'll just wait it out for now!

My favorite kind of problem, I have to say. My "problem" is similar: the group's size. Eleven is quite a lot, and even if they showed some epic stages in the final, I generally much prefer a smaller group performance-wise. There's much less margin for error and a large group is much harder to choreograph to perform tightly.

But at least everyone stands out and has had their fair share of limelight, so even in big performances there's something to look at in repeated viewings.

Some pics from what is apparently the MV shoot. Tennis! For a moment I thought the outfits and the bows especially would indicate a cute concept, but since "Unique" concept won the vote, the song will probably be something in the vein of Yum-Yum. At least I hope so... the alternative is not too appealing. Still not sure about that cutesy pose, though. Here's hoping the concept is anything but cutesy. I didn't sign up for that haha. Although I would accept something similar to Twinkle-Twinkle/Don't Flirt era Girl's Day, I suppose.

I watched the whole "Welcome Show" stream with Sejeong... it was 3 hours and mostly just bruuutally boring. Sejeong spent almost all of the time sitting quietly next to the stage.

Real fun show. It's about bringing back some old songs and their original performers... then some current producers and artists remix and cover them for an audience of people divided into four groups: Teens, twentysomethings, thirtysomethings and fortysomethings. Yoo Jae-Suk (Running Man, half of Korean tv) and You Hee-Yeol (Sketchbook etc) both have teams that compete against each other and the audience votes for their fave new performance in the end.

There's a lot of non-IOI stuff in this 1h30min show, but it has some great moments with the girls as well. Lots of good reactions (https://streamable.com/3yan) for example. And Yoo Jae-Suk is a huge Produce101/IOI fanboy. It's just fun watching him react to the girls, and Hee-Yeol getting all embarrassed for him haha.

And the final performance of the girls is great, of course. First stage, aced. :thumbup

Damn, why can't that album intro track be a full song? None of the new songs are very good here. Dream Girls is pretty generic and kind of all over the place... it has some good parts but other parts then ruin those parts and the end result is pretty underwhelming. The rest of the songs are really not my style, although Doo Wap (http://bit.ly/1VJAtd0) sounds aight (others might enjoy them more though).

YMC is sitting on this goldmine and this is what they do with it... sad. (Famous Bro who did the title track is a YMC house producer... I really doubt the girls had that many options if they even really got to choose from a bunch of tracks to debut with...) Also everything from simple website design to teasers and social media presence, YMC has done a horrible job. I'll cut them a little slack because of the insane time constraints, but that doesn't excuse them of everything.

But hey, the visuals are on point at least. (Actually, the more I watch the MV, the more I like the song. This is that "kpop effect", and I really like all of these girls haha...)

Now... let's get more variety appearances. :P

Whew, lots of stuff today. At one point, The girls were on three shows at the same time... and I tried to watch all of them.

SNL Korea was perfect. The writers utilized pretty much everything the girls were famous for, their memorable produce 101 moments and unique personality traits to make the skits. We got Sohye showing off her acting chops and going completely insane, Old man Sejeong, Switch Yoojung, Ending girl Chaeyeon, and so on. Love the attention to detail.

Chae has promotions with Dia so I find that highly unlikely. Also Nayoung and Jieqiong are supposed to do a concert or stuff with Pledis Girlz, so maybe they're out too.

The most probable ones are Somi, Chungha, Sohye and Yeonjung since there hasn't been any rumours/news about their activities. Since there's nothing concrete about Jellyfish/Fantagio girls though, all of them remain possible. Sejeong and/or Yoojung will surely be there though, I would think.

The only other reason for Sejeong being out of this unit (outside Jellyfish doing something) is that her popularity is large enough to sustain solo activities. She could just keep doing Welcome Show and random variety for the whole year at this point if she wanted, I think.

The demo for this new tune is sung by Nikki Flores and is at least a year old, but I only heard it today. Sounded swell. Chorus is a cover, verses sounded original.

Not bad, although it's a bit too busy and the girls are really struggling trying to do the Flores vocals... lack of Yeonjung and Sejeong really shows here.

Also it's hard to get over that chorus haha, having heard the Salt'n'Pepa version a bazillion times back in the day.

Everyone's looking good and it's not too pervy (which is good in this case being that only two of them are legal) so I can dig it.
