mornign musume in time magazine in usa!!!
« on: December 11, 2007, 04:26:05 AM »
it was talking about chinese in japan

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1691615-4,00.html

but i'm lucky to dins the menton of morning musume:

Is that too gloomy a conclusion? Maybe. Younger Japanese have lived just as long with an economically powerful China as an impoverished one. Catering to this crowd, Morning Musume, a Japanese version of the Spice Girls, added two new singers to its nine-woman line-up this year. Both are Chinese. The move was no doubt geared toward attracting a Chinese audience, but the group's producer is equally keen on maintaining a Japanese fan base. "I had older relatives who told me not to come to Japan because of what it did to China during the war," says Li Chun, 19, one of Morning Musume's Chinese additions. "But I told them, music is universal. It doesn't matter where I sing: China or Japan or outer space."

The thing is, there is nothing in 'the west' you can compare MM (or AKB48) with.
About the only really big successfull girls group is the Spice Girls.

There is no 'Idol group' industry in the west (snif).

I agree with frblckstr, comparing Momusu to the Spice Girls isn't even possible (you can't compare a Japanese idol to a Western artist/group, for one, in the West they're actually allowed to date), although I can understand that's probably the only way they can give the reader who aren't aware of Momusu's existence an idea of their popularity, etc.

Yeah, but as was previously stated, not much else to compare them to. Props to MM for being mentioned and Junjun for the quote.

and i agree with both of you. There is nothing like Momusu anywhere i remember have little trading card type things & little books about the pice girls when i was younger & no other singer has that these days( not in the U.S. anyway) but the are one of the most famous girls groups in history so to compare their fame to SG is the closest they could thing of. But still, maybe this could be a good thing. maybe people will hear of the nine member girl group & find in cool, Go find out more, then MM will get really popular here & the would have no choice but to seel their CDs & DVDs in music stores & Then UFA will bring them here to do a concert!

*POSITIVE THINK WITH ME!* :w00t: LOL

well, we are fans so relating spice girls to morning musume looks weird... but the magazine's just giving an example to the ones that don't know them, obviously... besides, if I remember correctly, spice girls did have some kind of audition, and they are both pop girl-groups... if you look at it this way...

Yeah, the comparison can only be because they're a girl group and they're popular.
In the same way, a few years ago (before Britney went mad) I saw Ayu described as "the Japanese Britney Spears" which was just as ridiculous and can only have been a comparison of their popularity, because beyond that they're not similar in any way.
Sig gone. Tinypic is no more.
