Zhang Ziyi Produces Her 'Lucky Star'

Actress Zhang Ziyi is getting her hands back on film producing.

Her new romantic comedy is titled "My Lucky Star". Zhang will produce and star in the film, according to reports in the Beijing News. "New York Minute" director Dennie Gordon will direct the film, with other cast members to be announced later.

Zhang will work with the newly founded Village Roadshow Entertainment Group Asia, which is billing itself as a platform between the Chinese film industry and Hollywood.

In 2009, Zhang released her first film as producer, "Sophie's Revenge", starring herself and South Korean actor So Ji-sub. The film performed well at the box offices, and turned then little-known director Jin Yimeng a popular name.

The actress was also supposed to co-produce Wayne Wang's "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan", but eventually quit the project during the production phase.

Zhang Ziyi with the film LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI) won the sixth Rome Film Festival award for elegance and temperament and broke the streak of the award going to Italian actresses. With the award in hand Zhang Ziyi said with a smile, "This trip to Rome has been like an Italian feast, the award is like a bottle of champagne that was saved for our final celebration."

The film festival presented this award to Zhang Ziyi mainly for the numerous bright spots that she created in her art life. The committee said, "She mixes strong performance abilities with harmony and elegant grace, all of which have been thoroughly on display in movies like CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON, HERO, HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS, MEMOIR OF A GEISHA and LOVE FOR LIFE. No one is more deserving of this award for elegance and temperament than her." Dressed in pink Zhang Ziyi first greeted everyone in Chinese then said in English, "First I would like to thank the Rome Film Festival for giving me this honor. Film to me is everything. Since age 17 film has occupied my life. Such an encouragements very important to actors." She also did not forget to emotionally thank director Gu Changwei.

Zhang Ziyi humorously said with the award when asked about being the first Chinese actress to win this Rome Film Festival award, "This trip to Rome has been like a rich Italian feast, the award is like a bottle of champagne that was saved for our final celebration." She also said that she was very relaxed on this trip to Rome. "I hope this small budget film would get more recognition. If through the influence of this film festival even more people can experience the feelings that the film delivers, this is my greatest wish." Gu Changwei also said that she already received a lot from this production, so this trip was more relaxing. He said, "Through this film, Ziyi again returned to the sight of European viewers, which pleases me very much. Making a movie is like putting together a party. LOVE FOR LIFE has so many excellent actors, everyone performed so outstandingly. Everyone because of the film have a period of time that they spent 'together', which was enough. Zhang Ziyi, Cecilia Cheung Collaborate in "Dangerous Liaisons"

A Chinese remake of Hollywood movie "Dangerous Liaisons" (Wei Xian Guan Xi) has began filming. The cast of the film includes Zhang Ziyi and Cecilia Cheung, who star as the film's female leads. This will be the first movie in which the two actresses star alongside one another.

A press release was held in Beijing on Monday and was attended by the major cast members. According to a report by China news.com, Zhang Ziyi said she fell in love with her role after reading the script, and even recommended that Cecilia Cheung star in the role opposite her. In the movie, the two women will wage war in an effort to win the heart of a man, portrayed by South Korean actor Jang Donggun.

The movie is loosely based on the French novel, Les Liaisons dangereuses, but the story is set in 1930s' Shanghai. South Korean director Jin-ho Hur takes the helm during the production stages with Chinese writer Yan Geling penning the script.

Yesterday the Zhang Ziyi and Wang Leehom (Wong Lik Won) starred film MY LUCKY STAR (FEI SEUNG HUNG WON) held a press conference in Venetian Macao. The conference originally had a question and answer segment, but in the last time it was changed to "no question" press conference. Speculations arose about Zhang Ziyi wanting to dodge questions about her romance with CCTV host Sa Beining and that they did not want to respond to the sensitive questions about the China Japan relationship deterioration.

 Zhang Ziyi said that MY LUCKY STAR would be a romantic adventure comedy, with only a quarter of the film yet to shoot. She was very honored to work with Wang Leehom and praised Wang Leehom as the all purpose artist champion, with both manners and talent. Wang Leehom said that Zhang Ziyi was only talking about his character in the film. Wang Leehom felt lucky to be chosen, as he only worked with actors who were better than him.
