Yeah, there are no groups or Pages or anything like that. At least not yet, but frankly I hope they won't add a feature for it.

What we COULD do, is to try and have a bunch of people meet up in the Hangout feature

Tested the Hangout feature yesterday (with one person), worked well enough. It's nice that they let you watch YouTube junk (in that window) while waiting for other people to join.

Are Sparks useless, or am I just not seeing their full potential?

I thought "Sparks" could be a way to develop new communities or hookup with like-minded otaku, etc. Instead I'm presented with a mere list of Google-generated links.

If there's a way to connect via common interest(s) in G+ I haven't found it.

Sparks is just a way to search up articles on topics you are interested in, and then easily share it with your circles. I agree it's a pretty useless feature so far (like an RSS feed you have no interest in really following, since it just collects things from random sources that may or may not be relevant to your interests). So.. yeah, I don't know about that one. It might be more useful in the future, depends on how they develop it and what kind of feedback people give on it.

By the way, Google+ has a massive user edited Google Docs document filled with tips and tricks, dos and don'ts and other helpful things

It's also interesting to browse the discussion/help section and see what people generally like and don't like about the project so far.

If you're one of the lucky ones who landed themselves a Google+ account, you might have felt a little less fortunate when your inbox was bombarded by repeated notifications. Vic Gundotra, the Goog's social mastermind, took to the fledgling service to apologize and explain what happened. Turns out the servers in charge of tracking notifications ran out of disk space for about 80 minutes -- causing them to repeatedly send and resend the same messages. In his Plus posting Gundotra admitted, "we didn't expect to hit these high thresholds so quickly, but we should have." Sure, it may have been annoying to get 17 alerts that your old college roommate added you to his circles, but we've got to give credit to Vic for owning this mini fail. The company better hope it can scale up capacity quick -- Google+ invites are still a hot property and it's got a lot of growing to do before it can truly compete with the likes of Facebook.

Google+ listens to their users and makes it possible to hide your gender if you don't want to define yourself to the world

(of all the things to bitch and moan about, I think this is the least important, but hey whatever. *is still openly a girl on the internet* gasp, oh my).

Also, let's compile a list of interesting people to follow! We all know there's plenty of fun people to follow on twitter, but who to follow on G+? To be honest, I currently just know of one person. Wil Wheaton. I've been following him on twitter for ages, and his posts are always fun and geeky. He seems to carry that on over to G+, which is awesome.

So anyone else follow anyone interesting? It doesn't have to be celebrities, just.. people worth following!
