On Monday, idol Shoko Nakagawa held a special live event for 200 lucky fans who bought a copy of her new single "snow tears" or her latest "Shokotan Blog" book.
On Sunday, she had announced through her blog that she will release her first original album on March 19, titled "Big Bang!!!" The album will include her 4 released singles and 7 new songs, one of which is a bonus track.
After Monday's concert, she held a press conference to publicly announce the album. During the event, she boldly declared that if the album takes the #1 spot on the charts, she will run naked through Nakano Broadway (a popular spot for otakus). However, she admitted that topping the charts is very unlikely for her.

Her appearance on the latest HEY!HEY!HEY! was fantastic. She's on with aiko, Amuro Namie, and Matsuda Seiko. She goes into crazy fangirl mode when she gets to meet Matsuda Seiko, like can hardly even talk cause it sounds like she's on the verge of crying kinda fangirl mode, and then some nice hidden-cam action from the pre-planning of the show when she finds out Seiko is going to be on there with her. :lol: :lol:

The cast for the "Gegege no Kitaro" movie sequel keeps on growing, and the latest publicized addition is talento Shoko Nakagawa, who is a big self-professed fan of the franchise. Nakagawa will play the beautiful and intelligent ghost Fuguruma Youbi, who aids Kitaro (Eiji Wentz) in his adventure.

No, I didn't know about it.
I think her song is possibly the best in the top 10. She's up against various songs, from a child singer, a rock band, various pop bands and a serious ballad. The Arashi song maybe my second favourite, but the chorus I think lets that song down.

They really are expensive, aren't they.. why can't they just be in the 3200-3800 yen range. Aya Ueto's DVD are also more expensive than others :-\ Note: I'm talking about the prices @ CDJapan.

They use FedEx so its the initial shipping that is expensive, the more items the less it is per item (e.g. I just pre-ordered this concert plus 3 more items, shipping dropped to less then 20% of the total price).

Yeah, it started at 9pm in Japan so it's different if you live in another time zone.
There were a few preview clips of the AX08 concert and Donyoku Matsuri 2008.
She read a few fan mail but I don't think mine got read. Thousands get sent so it's hard to get it in ><
She was really hyper throughout the whole thing too (actually she's always hyper for all the broadcasts). She was cosplaying as Nia and did a few awesome Gurren Lagann impressions.
I recorded the whole thing with my digital camera though if anyone is interested in watching it. I don't know how to record live streaming so this is the only way ><.

There was a show called M-ON that covered Shokotan's experience at Anime Expo. Someone uploaded it on youtube :D
They showed some interviews of people who were waiting in line for the autograph session! Didn't someone say they were going to see her from Canada? Cus I think they're in it!
I looked on the internet at that a few months ago and there seemed to be a joining fee + an annual fee, so it seemed alot particularly as it would be all in Japanese. From what I remember there may have been a link to an internet forum for members (unless I'm confusing it with somewhere else).
@starry01482 don't forget she became famous as a 'photobook idol' originally.
The shouting 'hai' along is a very very very common thing in japan, all their artists do it. It's to encourage the audience to it and generally get the crowd going. I can imagine it's pretty intense in person.
In the case of Shoko, her past is her greatest asset towards her singing career and isn't a handicap. She's a gravure idol, she started as one and still is. As a singer, she would never have made it this far if she never did the stuff before. In Japan, doing gravure isn't looked down upon, lots of Japan's greatest celebrities have done it, and it helped boost their careers to some extent. She's a better singer than Leah, and has way better songs imo, but a "singer" she is not. From how I see it, singing is just a part of her career as an idol. Leah on the other hand is more of the opposite, she's using gravure as a platform to boost her singing career.

I thought there might be another album around Christmas because of the large number of singles beforehand. Shiny Gate was the best song among the latest singles in my opinion. The video for Kirei a la Mode was quite good, though I think it could have had a little more variety than her just standing or sitting in that armchair. Hopefully we'll still see more of the fun Shokotan in videos again like we did in the Shiny Gate video. The third track on the single wasn't bad but the main track was obviously the best one.

I'm not too familiar with Shokotan's music but I gotta admit that 'Namida no Tane' is pretty awesome. Totally reminds me of anime music and I wouldn't be surprised if it was an anime theme song. By the way, does she have more rock influenced songs like 'Namida no Tane'? Recommendations please! :)

This song is actually the ending theme for the second Gurren Lagann movie. All her Gurren Lagann songs have been rock songs which are probably her most popular song and basically boosted her music career as well. She's mentioned before that Sorairo Days is her favorite song due to it's popularity as it's her more recognized song. There's a few non-Gurren Lagann related rock songs in her albums that are very good as well (Calling Location and Spiral)Cool. Hmm.. I have never heard of Gurren Lagann so I guess I better google it. I try to be hardcore but it's really hard because I don't live in Japan :(. I get most of my info from friends who live in Japan. Almost all the exclusive merchandise I have are from them too. One of the main reasons I'm going to the tour is to actually repay them back. I'm a poor college student too so even doing something like going to the concert tour requires months of saving up money (I've been saving up since August ;;). I even signed up for the official fan club "Giza Pinku" and have been getting the official newsletter sent all the way here.You should totally take pix of your collection! I had no idea non-Japanese were able to join her fan club. And yeah, it's true that ALL students are broke (I'm one of 'em lol) and going to Japan is expensive as hell. I was an exchange student in Japan a couple of years ago and I was really lucky that my favorite band v-u-den had a concert during my stay. I wouldn't have been able to go see them without the whole student exchange thing. Anyways I hope you enjoy Shokotan's concerts :)
This forum is probably the only place I can talk about Shokotan too since none of my friends like her and she's so obscure outside of Gurren Lagann here. I initially found out about her thanks to reading this topic too ><Yeah, I know the feeling. I don't know any jpop-fans outside the net so JPH!P is basically the only place where I get to talk about the awesomeness of Japanese pop culture. Anyways it's mad cool that you discovered Shokotan through this site. I discover new stuff every week thanks to our awesome members :)

I like the song more everytime I listen to it. Love the PV too, it kind of fits with the song more than her other rock song's PVs. I'm usually not a fan of these dark themed PVs but Shokotan just makes it awesome <3I gotta admit that after years of listening to H!P stuff I kinda prefer darker songs and PVs nowadays. Like my favorite Aya Hirano song is her goth rock song Harmonia Vita. I haven't really seen any older Shokotan PVs so which ones are worth checking out?

It's a weird anime but it's also awesome at the same time (maybe that's why so much people like it). I didn't think I'd like it at first but really enjoyed it after watching it. I think it was Gainax's first mecha anime since Evangelion so it had a lot of hype before it aired too. I don't want to ruin too much but a lot of ridiculous things happen which makes it enjoyable. A lot of the quotes in the series have become internet memes too lolThanks for the info! I'm not the biggest anime fan but I might check out the movie.

Shokotan's managers (Kamiyama and Ichikawa) came The top picture was one of the cosplaying fans, his name was Takechan and he was cosplaying Yamada Goro lol
The second picture is me, I just came to Takamatsu so didn't get a chance to buy a t-shirt or happi yet
Shokotan was surprised to hear that I was in Takamatsu and mentioned that I lived in America
She also mentioned that I went repeatedly to her handshake meeting in Los Angeles and hasn't seen me for a long time since then
The concert hall in Takamatsu was a bit small but the atmosphere was still really awesome
I got GIZA PINKU tickets so I was near the front of the stage (6th row)
The set list was still exactly the same as the one in Toda except Shokotan sang 1 additional song which was Milky Kiss during the encore
Shokotan stuttered a bit during Spiral too in this concert lol
Some of the songs (besides the ones in the anisong medley) were short versions
I think they were 1/2, Strawberry Melody and Mitsubachi no Sasayaki if I remember them
During CAT Life, some members of the audience gets chosen to dance on stage with her
Ichikawa asked me before the concert if I wanted to dance CAT Life on stage but was a bit nervous about it
I aggreed and he said I'll be chosen in Sendai (the next concert) since I didn't really know the dance that well yet
It's only 1-2 minutes of dancing and the cat pose dancing is easy but it's still a bit scary lol
Shokotan only has 2 concert DVDs right now
It's honestly best to watch both of them
^I recommend her second DVD (2008). She improved so much and I prefer the setlist of that concert. Moreover, the band is great as well. there's a musical interlude with some awesome guitar parts. Finally, check out the Sukashikashipan Man bit :lol: funny and awesome dancing when he enters the stage XD

When I heard Shokotan was playing Budokan in October I almost fainted because I am finally able to travel Japan with some money saved up and I'm going to make sure to schedule my trip in Oct.

I only went to the expos here for the first 1-2 years they started. Only been to one video game expo in the past 4 years.
Only get a sense of a packed area full of sweaty ppl pushing ppl, and little of interest.
I do like HK cosplayers though, cos they really put a lot of effort into the costumes.
Will check it out just for Shokotan though. :lol:
Hope it's a full-on concert. But I'll keep my hopes low, cos guests normally just sing a song or two unless they announce it as a separate event with a separate price. Only good thing from that would be photo'ing allowed.

"Sukashi Kashipan Man" is a hero originally drawn by Nakagawa in 2007, based on sand dollars ("sukashikashipan") and sweet buns ("kashipan"). The character proved popular among her fans, spawning an animated project, a manga, a video game, and other merchandise. However, Nakagawa did not reveal any details about the live-action project.

I knew some sentences might have been weird since I didn't know how to express them properly and I was trying to incorporate some words that I learned from other Shokotan fans

There were just a few things that were a little off, and I'm sure the staff didn't laugh in a mean way, they just thought it was endearing and cute, so don't worry about it and keep on studying! I make mistakes often as well, everyone does ^_^
Like, "nihon ni kaeritai" you don't use kaeru unless you're talking about your home. That's why Shoko was like "oh, so David thinks of Japan as his home now!" and "budoukan de ikimashou" they get the meaning, it's just a little screwy, lol :nervous

I had a hard time choosing which goods to buy as I can't buy everything because I don't put my goods in my luggage.
I normally pack the goods it nicely in a big box provided by DHL Japan and sent it back to my country.
Although this method is costly, at least my goods were in perfect condition.
Unlike the bad experience I had when I bought an extra luggage bag to put all my goods in there to find out that eveything was squash here and there :cry:.
I definitely don't trust people from the airport as they just throw your luggage around like some pile of garbage :angry:.

It's weird because I barely remember anything that happened during the concert. I remember specific things that happened before and after but not much during the actual concert itself. The only thing I really remember was Brilliant Dream because of all the laser lights and Tsuzuku Sekai because of the fire that literally blew up on stage (you can literally feel the heat :lol:). Oh well, thankfully there's a DVD of the concert which will hopefully bring back some memories. Hope I get it in the mail tomorrow or I'm going to be incredibly sad this weekend :cry:

I've been a huge fan ever since her American concert at Anime Expo (before that, I was only a closet fan XD)
I went from my home country Canada all the way to Japan twice last year just to see her concerts. Still not sure if it was a crazy idea (because of the amount of money that I blew) but they were definitely great experiences (because of the new Shokofriends that I made XD)
Magical Tour was awesome, wasn't it? I still don't get tired of watching it. I must have seen it hundreds of times by now. :lol:

I think you mean Matsugashita Hiroyuki. He's been the guitarist and keyboard in all of Shokotan's major concerts so it wouldn't be surprising if they were close. I don't think that is actually him though. In the blog post you got the picture from, she says it's the cameraman for Kagakukun :lol:
She doesn't mention Hiroyuki at all in the blog post so I'm not sure where you are getting the reference from :?

This weekend is the last weekend for Prism Tour in Yokohama :cry:. I ended up going to the one in Fukuoka, Tokyo and Osaka already. To be honest, it was a bit boring because of the anisongs at the beginning. She doesn't end up talking to the audience until about 40 minutes into the concert so it starts off slow but after the slow songs (Kirei A La Mode and Snow Tears), it picks up and gets better. Not as good compared to Magical Tour though which I still think was her best concert. Ray of Light was a bit of a letdown during the concert since it's too slow paced. She ended up singing it after Namida no Tane and before Calling Location so it feels a bit out of place. It probably would have been better to stick it with the slow songs.
Anyways, she announced a 5th anniversary concert at Makuhari in November during the JCB concert.
Hooray for her 3rd concert. and I wish I can see her 5th anniversary concert
but after the slow songs (Kirei A La Mode and Snow Tears), it picks up and gets better.

The concert was awesome!!
Shokotan sang only her original songs (no anisongs whatsoever) and half the setlist was different both days which made it worth going to both.
She sang a lot of songs you wouldn't expect too
Namely Winter Wish, 8-bit ver Kimi ni Meroron and Koi no Kioku
Of course she also sang all of the songs on her new album as well
The choreography was also really well done and cute this time
In my opinion, Makuhari messe is probably Shokotans best concert
Definitely can't wait for the DVD
There will probably be two separate releases because of the different set lists
The concert was only half the fun though
There was a festival outside the concert hall with many Shokotan related events
There was even an auction for authentic Shokotan goods including costumes that she actually wore during previous concerts (second Magical Tour costume and first Prism Tour costume were sold)
It'd be cool to actually own a costume but I wouldn't know what to do with it lol

Shoko said, “I feel nervous and have a lot of pressure, since it’s a Disney animation. Yet when I read the script, I became excited for Rapunzel’s adventure. I will draw inspiration from it everyday, and try my best while working on it.”
Nakagawa Shoko had previous seiyuu experience through various Pokémon movies, and is widely known as the “Blog Queen” of Japan.

I saw this DVD!! I love it!! *__* Shokotan is the best!
Well, she has a very unique voice, i never see her before, only enjoying macross frontier soundtrack.
she's pretty yeah.
It feels a bit like Snow Tears but not as brilliant in my opinion.
It's been six months since the last update... What's going on the world of Shokotan?
The last single is from January this year. The last cover album is exactly a year old... :panic:

On January 29, Nakagawa Shoko revealed a picture through Twitter of herself bathing in chocolate.
Along with the picture, Nakagawa wrote, "My dream of bathing in chocolate has come true! It's real chocolate!" In the picture, you can see the singer posing in the bathtub and enjoying her chocolate bath.
Nakagawa also uploaded off-shots from her PV shoot onto her official blog. You can see pictures of Nakagawa posing with her cat, wearing a chocolate face mask, and showing off her beautiful legs in the bathtub.
