I have been a fan of Donnie ever since I saw Iron Monkey and Wing Chun a few years ago. Donnie Yen has got to be one of the most underrated martial arts actors in the game and I never understood why he didn't blow up in the west like Jackie Chan & Jet Li. Dude's as skilled as Jet Li and he can speak English perfectly unlike Jackie & Jet. Donnie is also one of the most talented fight choreographers. He was kinda MIA for a while but lately he has been on fire. His recent movies SPL, Dragon Tiger Gate & Flash Point are all mad entertaining and especially SPL contains some of the most hardcore Donnie fight scenes ever.

And his next movie Ip Man looks even better:

I can't wait!

I've always had a soft spot for Donnie since those old TVB days ^^

I also never understood why he was never really accepted when he was making the great movies back then.

It's great that he's finally getting some recognition now with Ip Man and Flash Point.

Some recommendations would be Tiger Cage 2, Sure Fire ( for that fight he has with Michael woods), In the Line of Duty 4, SPL, Iron Monkey...

First look at Donnie Yen in '14 Blades'
(http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/6563/42307958.th.jpg) (http://img11.imageshack.us/i/42307958.jpg/) (http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/4264/29584656.th.jpg) (http://img193.imageshack.us/i/29584656.jpg/)

Photos from the set of director Daniel Lee's upcoming period martial arts actioner 14 BLADES, depicting leading wushu star Donnie Yen, have begun appearing in Chinese media. Images show a serious-looking Yen, both clothed and shirtless while sporting a goatee, fake tats and beefed up abs. 14 BLADES puts Yen into the role of Green Dragon, a Ming Dynasty-era Imperial guard, the best of a specially trained force of sword-slinging agents who take orders directly from the Emperor. When an evil Eunuch takes over the Imperial court, Yen's associates turn against him while they're on a secret mission. Green Dragon becomes public enemy number one and must battle his former comrades while rallying those still loyal to the Emperor.

SHAOLIN SOCCER AND PAINTED SKIN star Vicki Zhao plays Qiao Hua, the daughter of an armed escort service chief. She becomes romantically involved with Green Dragon. Other cast members include Wu Chun, Qi Yuwu, Kate Tsui and Law Kar-ying. The film is expected to contain heavy doses of stylized fight sequences populated by a large number of veteran martial arts stars, all overseen by action director Ku Huan-chiu who has worked closely with wire-fu master Yuen Woo-ping for the past 20 years. Veteran genre actors to make appearances include Chen Kuan-tai (THE FLYING GUILLOTINE), Wu Ma (THE DEAD AD THE DEADLY), Sammo Hung (MARTIAL LAW), Xu Xiang-dong (WING CHUN), Chen Zhi-hua (IP MAN), and Damian Lau (DUEL TO THE DEATH).

Chen Kuan-tai, one of Shaw Brothers' top kung fu stars of the 1970s, will play a nemesis to Donnie Yen's character. It's a fitting choice as not only is Chen a real kung fu expert who has stayed in shape, he starred in Shaw Brothers' two FLYING GUILLOTINE films which are very similar in plot to 14 BLADES. Mainlander Xu Xiang-dong is another highly skilled, albeit less famous martial arts-trained actor who previously appeared in Yuen Woo-ping's wire-fu comedy WING CHUN, starring Michelle Yeoh and Donnie Yen. He also recently crossed fists with Yuen Biao in the excellent kung fu TV series WING CHUN (2007) where he showed that he is still in top form.

Yen has suggested that 14 BLADES has some of the most plentiful and challenging fight sequences from among his recent films. A likely reason for the injury and the challenge might be Ku Huan-chiu, who as action director is reportedly pushing the film's fighting stars. Midway through the 14 BLADES shoot, Donnie Yen reportedly suffered a leg injury, apparently related to a previous injury. Despite the setback, he returned to finish his scenes. On a personal note, Donnie Yen's grandmother passed away on July 14 in Boston. Amazingly, she was over 100 years old. Yen, who was in China on the set of 14 BLADES, was unable to fly back to the U.S. to attend the funeral service.

At top of his game, Donnie Yen plans retirement

After 26 years of screen fighting, Donnie Yen, 46, is finally being recognized as the world’s number one Chinese action star, inheriting the mantle previously carried by Jet Li, Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee. Bolstered by award-winning, blockbuster hits IP MAN and PAINTED SKIN in 2008 and with upcoming films 14 BLADES, BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS and IP MAN 2 gaining momentum, the Boston native has become the hottest fighting star in Asia with offers pouring in from producers. Despite this enviable position, Yen admits that his time as an action star is running out in a new interview with the New York Times.

With age, it’s taking Yen longer to recuperate from shooting action scenes and although not mentioned in the NYT article, the action star has been troubled of late by injuries.

“I’ve actually given myself a retiring deadline for acting of 50,” said Yen. “I want to push myself to the limit, but I don’t want to be hanging around.”

Before anyone thinks Yen is quitting the movie biz in four years, he offers assurance that he plans to keep working in some capacity.

“I know I can still have some influence in the action directing department and raise the bar,” he said. “I still have a lot of ideas.”

To speculate, Yen will transition towards action choreography and possibly more dramatic roles, although it’s less likely. I have a feeling he’s not going to pretend he can turn himself into another Anthony Wong or Simon Yam. In the interview, Yen admits to only taking his acting serious since last year with AN EMPRESS AND THE WARRIORS.

While Jet Li has decided to focus more on his charity work outside of the industry, Jackie Chan has struggled for years to re-brand himself as a dramatic actor, most recently by starring in SHINJUKU INCIDENT. yen appears more pragmatic about his situation.

“I don’t think you’re going to see me in a film without action because I don’t think investors are going to put their money in such a film,” said Yen. “That’s not what the audience wants to see me in.”

The potential for Yen to excel in action directing appears more promising. In coming years, China is gradually going to lose top action directing talents such as Sammo Hung, Ching Siu-tung, Yuen Woo-ping and Corey Yuen as they retire. While there are younger understudies or protégés in the industry, none of them have Yen’s name recognition or experience in front of the camera. Yen has amassed experience in action directing over the years, some of his most recent work being in SPL and FLASH POINT. He has a unique style and an insatiable drive to evolve and challenge himself, not unlike his original mentor Yuen Woo-ping.

As genre fans, we all have to face the same sorry reality that our favorite action stars do, their bodies gradually break down and they can’t perform on the same level. Jackie Chan’s last great physical performance was in 1994 in DRUNKEN MASTER 2, 15 years ago which blows my mind when I think about it. But as we have learned with Sammo Hung, Philip Kwok and other former martial arts stars who have remained active in the industry, that doesn’t mean they don’t have something to contribute.

Seeing Donnie Yen muse about the end is still bittersweet. I was just beginning to get used to the idea of seeing him as the reigning Chinese action star. On top of that, he has yet to break into the international market the way that his predecessors have. My hope is that within the next four years, Yen will have one crossover hit that gives him the worldwide recognition that he’s already getting in China.

Donnie Yen to bring the ‘Legend of Chen Zhen’

In 1995, Hong Kong action star and filmmaker Donnie Yen played Chen Zhen, the role made famous by Bruce Lee, in a television series version of Lee’s classic martial arts film FIST OF FURY (1971). Wu-Jing.org has reported that Yen will return to the role in a proposed “sequel” of sorts to be helmed by Andrew Lau, best known for his work behind the cameras on the original STORM RIDERS (1998) and the INFERNAL AFFAIRS trilogy. FIST OF FURY: THE LEGEND OF CHEN ZHEN will be set seven years after the apparent death of Chen Zhen, who was shot after discovering who was reponsible for his teacher’s death in Japanese-occupied Shanghai. A mysterious stranger arrives from overseas and befriends a local mafia boss.

That man is a disguised Chen Zhen, who intends to infiltrate the mob when they form an alliance with the Japanese. Disguising himself as a caped fighter by night, Chen intends to take out everyone involved as well as get his hands on an assassination list prepared by the Japanese. Reported to be co-starring in the film are Taiwanese-born international actress Shu Qi and veteran Hong Kong actor Anthony Wong. Gordon Chan, who helmed FIST OF LEGEND (1994), the film where Jet Li played Chen, is producing with Lau and co-wrote the script. Yen will also serve as the film’s action choreographer. Filming should begin very soon as Yen is currently at work on IP MAN 2. FIST OF FURY: THE LEGEND OF CHEN ZHEN is scheduled for a 2010 release from Media Asia Films.

FUCK YEAH. That is a crazy-ass concept. Like, what would happen if Darth Vader was still alive or Scarface was just wearing a bullet proof vest.

Donnie Yen will star in Andrew Lau’s upcoming 2010 martial arts pic Fist of Fury: The Legend of Chen Zhen. The film tells the story of the fictional character made famous by Bruce Lee in the 1972 movie Fist of Fury. Shu Qi and Anthony Wong co-star.

Yen says he enjoyed exploring villain role

HONG KONG (AP) — Action star Donnie Yen says he signed on to play an ancient Chinese secret service agent in his new film — even though it was another kung fu epic — because he wanted to tackle the role of a villain who discovers his humanity. Historical or martial arts blockbusters have dominated the booming mainland Chinese film market in recent years — and Yen is one of the genre's biggest stars. The mainland-born, Hong Kong and Boston-raised actor most recently starred in the hit biopic of Bruce Lee's teacher, "Ip Man." Other recent action credits include "Hero," ''Seven Swords," ''Flash Point," ''Dragon Tiger Gate" and "An Empress and the Warriors." Promoting his new movie "14 Blades" in Hong Kong on Tuesday, Yen told reporters while he's always looking to broaden his repertoire, he agreed to another action flick because he could explore a villain's transformation.

Hong Kong director Daniel Lee's kung fu thriller revolves around the Chinese emperor's secret service in the Ming Dynasty (1368 to 1644) — the "Jin Yi Wei" — which Yen described as orphans who were trained into ruthless killers used to pursue the emperor's personal vendettas. Yen plays Qing Long, a secret service agent who's betrayed and hunted by his colleagues. He falls in love while on the run, discovering his compassion after years of senseless killing. "14 Blades" describes how the relationship transformed "a killing machine to a real human being," Yen said.

"This is very different from the other ancient Chinese epics I've starred in," he said. Yen, a veteran action star who once trained with Jet Li's teacher in Beijing, joked that his co-star, newcomer Kate Tsui, was a clumsy fighter — but added that actual kung fu prowess doesn't matter as much as capturing a fighter's spirit. "Whether you know kung fu isn't the most important thing. The most important thing is whether you can project the aura of an ancient fighter," he said. "14 Blades" is scheduled to be released on Feb. 11.

Donnie Yen teases Kate Tsui that she's the "best person to hit"

Directed by Daniel Lee, Vicki Zhao, Donnie Yen, Kate Tsui and Wu Chun will be in a new film "錦衣衛" which will be release this Lunar New Year. Yesterday the film held its press conference, due to illness Vicki was unable to come to Hong Kong to attend the conference. Kate was dressed in a sexy low-cut back revealing dress, under Reporters request, she posed for pictures. At this time, Wu Chun came to join her and posed with her for pictures. It was a funny scene. It was rumored that Wu Chun will leave the boyband Fahrenheit? Wu Chun said no three times, he said that there is still a contract on hand, next year Fahrenheit will be releasing an album.

Donnie teased Kate and said that she's the "best person to get hit" in the universe, he said: "The best one to hit is not me, she was doing a fighting scene with me, she was only 3-inches away from me and still couldn't get me. Every time it was me going easy on her." Speaking of Kate has a few scenes of seducing, Donnie laughed: "At the time I was not at the scene, if I was there I would escape. But I'm afraid that would affect Kate's self-esteem." Donnie also praised Wu Chun's performance in the film. Although he never done martial arts films before, but he has a background in dancing, so her performed those scenes with ease. He said: "Wu Chun is quite hard working, he would be constantly practicing before shooting. If he doesn't understand something he'll just ask."

The name of Chen Zhen is attached to Bruce Lee in Fist of Fury and Jet Li in Fist of Legend. The latest Donnie Yen' version of Chen Zhen has a brand new story. The official plot description has yet to be released, but we do know some fact that the story is set in Shanghai during the Japanese occupation (1937 - 1945). Chen Zhen is a patriotic figure or a resistant fighter, who is protecting Shanghai from total destruction, or something like that.

For the first time ever, Donnie Yen gets a chance to prove he is also good at playing piano. Shu Qi plays a singer, working at Paramount Ballroom, the top gathering place for the high class of Shanghai in the 1930s and 1940s. Anthony Wong plays the owner of Paramount Ballroom, who offers Chen Zhen protection. Mainland Chinese actor Huang Bo plays a detective.

Principal shooting has last for a month in Shanghai. Theatrical release in China, including Hong Kong, is aimed at October 2010.

The action thriller is directed by Andrew Lau with a screenplay written by Gordon Chan and Cheung Chi-Sing.

Donnie Yen 2009 movies best earner

With "Ip Man", Donnie succeeded to hand out last year's most stunning results in the Movie circle, earning 66Millions (HKD, currency used in this article) becoming the best earner of the year. For the females, it's Barbie Xu (DaS) who had switched battle to the Movies only for the recent years, with her talent fees getting to 2 Millions per film, she earned 8 Millions last year, even surpassing the movie queens like Zhou Xun and Li Bing Bing !

In 2009, the HK produced movies were very popular in Mainland, hence making those stars value and fees almost doubling. Among all the stars of the island, Donnie "fought out " a great future and showing his impressive earning skills, his talent fees raised from 12 Millions to 16 Millions (per movie).

Last year, he acted in 4 different movies including "14 blades" and earned a total of 66 Millions !

And the other earning King, Louis Koo acted in "Forbidden City cop 009" with DaS, which had been a big hit in mainland, he succeeded to raise his fees from 4 Millions to 8 Millions.

Last Year, Louis starred in 5 movies, and earned about 40 Millions already only based in movies.

And Nick Cheung Ka Fai, who had the honour to be crowned 6 times Movie King, his fees skipped from 1 Million to 2.5 Millions, his incomes getting more and more lucrative.
About being 2009's best earner, Donnie says : "While an actor performs, he only thinks about doing his best, I only wish to encounter a good script and a good director." he also revealed that his schedule for this year is already full, he'll do his best to earn the most money.

For the female stars, HK's Charlene Choi (Ah Sa) thrived was all by herself, she, whose acting fees reaches up to 2.5 Millions, filmed 4 Movies last year, but with one in which she was only guest starring, a conservative estimate of her incomes is 6 Millions. But Ah Sa humbly says that she's not a high earner, and said smiling "I only use a few tricks to stay in this world(闖江湖), in 2009, I was just lucky enough to have filmed a few movies which incidently had good box office "

Finally, DaS who only started to fight in the Movies world for those past years, handed out impressive results, earning 8 Millions, defeating movie queens such as Zhou Xun and Li bing Bing. And Zhou Xun whose acting fees are 2 Millions only participated in 3 movies last year, one less than DaS, that was the reason her earning didn't win to DaS'. Li bing Bing who won the Movie Queen title from Zhou Xun, earned only 2.8 Millions last year.

Martial-arts film "14 Blades" premiered in Beijing on Tuesday in the absence of female lead Zhao Wei.

Zhao was absent due to "personal reasons," according to the film's production team.

Rumors that the popular actress is pregnant have not been confirmed by neither Zhao nor her agent.

At the premiere, lead actor Donnie Yen led other cast members Wu Chun, Kate Tsui and Qi Yuwu in sharing behind-the-scenes tidbits.

"14 Blades" is about a Ming Dynasty secret agent (Donnie Yen) who fights to uncover a conspiracy. It was directed by Daniel Lee.

Chinese folk singer-songwriter Sa Dingding, who won a BBC World Music Award in 2008 for her previous album "Alive", sings the movie's theme song.

The movie will hit local theaters on February 4.

The man can do it all!! lol his wife is so tall.

Donnie Yen Fortune Telling

Yesterday evening, Donnie Yen attended a reception accompanied by his wife Cecilia Wang, he revealed that he'll soon film a movie "Guan Yun Chang" that will be directed by Alan Mak Siu Fai, for the movie he'll be both actor and Action director, saying that he'll go to look for settings with director MAk. It is said that "Guan Yun Chang" will be quadruplets (4 movies on the same topic) as many directors fight to film it ? He said : "I heard of it." The movie he's starring often get twins but he always was first... He smiled saying "I also don't know why ?"

About "14 Blades" that he is starring getting bad box office, he admitted that he was a little disappointed by the Hong Kong box office. He said : " But it was ok the next morning, I can say that even though we are pessimistic about Hong Kong box office, we will win over the whole globe, in Mainland, the box office reached 130 Millions, 3 times what Raymond Wong's "All is well and Ends well 2010" got, I'm not talking big." But after he said that he was optimistic about "All..." it got beaten by Eric Tsang's "72 Tenants".

Donnie says "When filming, there will be losses and gains, there's no way to win every year, the most important is that Chinese speaking movies win, this year, you earn, next year I do, I came out acting Hong Kong movies, so I wish the best to all of my peers."

spy photos brought to you by the same hosts of JunJun and LinLin's new blogs!

Led by Hong Kong action film star Donnie Yen, the film "Guan Yunchang" has started shooting in Hebei Province, M1905.com reports.

Yen plays general Guan Yu, also known as Yunchang, the famous character from the historical novel "Romance of the Three Kingdoms".

Award-winning mainland director-actor Jiang Wen plays the role of Cao Cao - the leader of Guan's enemy kingdom. Actress Sun Li will also play an important role in the film, according to the report.

Yen said honestly that he's not quite familiar with the character of Guan Yunchang and he's reading the novel, even taking it into the bathroom with him.

"I have to do a lot of homework to prepare for the rivalry with Jiang Wen. He has a very heroic personality," Yen said.
The appearance of Donnie Yen's version of Guan Yunchang is quite different from the traditional understanding, the report says. The well-dressed general now wears shabby clothing in the film. Even his style of beard is different. The film depicts a young Guan Yunchang.

Donnie Yen is also the martial-arts director of the film.

Wu-jing.org plot details:
...The story focuses mainly on the period when Guan Yu was held captive by Cao Cao, showing his inner conflicts, and will see Guan Yu traveling a thousand li on his trusty steed, passing 5 obstacles, beheading six generals. Donnie Yen would play the eponymous historical figure, while Zhang Han Yu Jiang Wen warlord Cao Cao.

Donnie Yen says, "I don't know why so many filmmakers want me to play folk heroes or historical figures. I have heard that many are shooting Guan Yu films, and Louis Koo would be joining one, very fascinating... To me, this is a very challenging role, I'd be acting and action directing, so the pressure is quite big. My schedule is already fully packed this year, but I'm still getting new scripts, more than I could handle."

Donnie Yen: Going Home Is More Important Than Box Office

Donnie Yen's character from "Yip Man" is now available in a wax figure in HK Madame Tssauds wax museum. Yesterday he attended to the opening ceremony. Wife Cecilia Wang came to support with her parents, sister, and cousin. Donnie felt the eyes resembled the best.

Donnie's "Yip Man 2" has a box office of 3,720,000HKD (opening day) and is so far his best selling film in one day. He is very satisfied with the box office. First installment has box office around one million in its opening day, this time is the triple.

He said since it has a good box office, he will definitely invite others to dinner. He also hope it will exceed 40 million and boss Raymond Wong will pay everyone a trip to Japan. He stressed earlier that he won't film a 3rd installment, now the sequel has a good outcome, will he reconsider? He expressed he won't because there's not much new elements he can add to the character. Also too many people portray the same character, like "Wong Fei Hung" before, which turned out pretty bad in the end. He won't be like other people. Foreign film "Iron Man 2" will open today and asked is he confident in beating "IM2?" Donnie said it's hard to say, "YM2" has good word-of-mouth, Mainland viewers said it surpassed the first one. He said: "Decide who will win or go home, which one is more important? Of course I'll pick the latter one."

Donnie Yen's Salary Rockets After "Ip Man 2"

Donnie Yen's salary has rocketed to 20 million Yuan ( nearly US $ 3 million) per film following his performance in "Ip Man 2", Chinafilm.com reports.

Yen's salary now exceeds that of Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau and actor Tony Leung, but trails some way behind Jackie Chan's 103 million Yuan (US$ 15 million) and Jet Li's 68 million Yuan (nearly US$ 10 million).

According to the report, investment company Polybona believes there's a good chance that Donnie Yen will take over from Jackie Chan and Jet Li as the new king of kung fu movies.

Donnie Yen was offered US $ 3 million to play the lead role in "Guan Yunchang", a movie about a great general from the historical Chinese novel "Romance of Three Kingdoms".

"With his great performances, he's box office gold and worth every penny of his $ 3 million salary. I'm very interested in working with him," said Daniel Lam, president of Universe International Holdings Limited in Hong Kong.

"Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen", the latest film about one of the best-known action heroes on China's screens, will hit local cinemas in October, producers have announced.

Investors said at a press conference on Monday that they are expecting a box-office take of 500 million yuan (US$73.3 million). That number, if reached, would make the film one of the most profitable Chinese-language films of all time. "The Founding of a Republic", last year's box-office leader, earned 420 million yuan.

Donnie Yen, who portrayed the fictitious martial-arts hero Chen Zhen in a 1995 TV drama, reprises the role that has also been played by Bruce Lee and Jet Li. A frequent character on China's big and small screens, Chen Zhen is usually portrayed as a student of martial-arts legend Huo Yuanjia (1867-1910).

"Unlike Bruce Lee's Chen Zhen who's uneducated, or Jet Li's version, Donnie Yen has to go further. Yen's Chen Zhen returns to China from France, and is more mature and romantic than previous incarnations," explained Gordon Chan, the film's producer.

According to the production team, Yen's Chen Zhen is a special agent who works against Japanese spies in 1920s Shanghai.

The film also stars Shu Qi, Anthony Wong and Huang Bo.

Donnie Yen is THE MONKEY KING

It's official.  The title role for Soi Cheang's Monkey King: Wreaking Havoc In Heavenly Palace has been confirmed and its none other than Donnie Yen, the bankable action star who's been on fire lately.  If you may recall from our previous post, Jet Li was the other prime candidate under consideration from the producers to re-play the iconic character.  The major roles still left to be fill include Buffalo Demon King, Princess Iron Fan, Jade Emperor, and Erlang Shen.  Budget at US $45 million, Filmko Pictures plans to shoot the fantasy adaptation in 3D IMAX with Weta Digital on board to handle the special effects.

According to the poster on the above, the release date is slated for February 2012.

In order to present completely different scenes from the previous Chen Zhen films, director Andrew Lau and his art director have focused on every detail of the whole scene. The layout and display of the Casablanca nightclub will bring you into the year of 1920. And the Hongkou practice room alone took the crew several months to design and another two months to build.

This film also makes some changes regarding the fate of the main character Chen Zhen, who survives after he goes to the Hongkou practice room alone and then engages in the European battle.

The film is scheduled to be on screen on September 22.

More stills have been released for Andrew Lau's new action film "Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen" starring Donnie Yen and Shu Qi. Previous stills showed Shu Qi as a nightclub singer but there might be more to her than that since the new stills have her in Japanese army uniform. The film opens in Chinese cinemas on September 21. Donnie Yen to Star in "Wu Xia"
2010-08-10 16:16:14     CRIENGLISH.com       Web Editor: zhucheng

Donnie Yen has landed the lead role in director Peter Chan's new martial-arts film "Wu Xia" (provisionally "Swordsman"), the Beijing Times reports.

Takeshi Kaneshiro, better known to Chinese audiences as Jincheng Wu, has been confirmed as Yen's co-star.

Gong Li has been offered a role but has not yet accepted it, while Chan says a rumor of actress Tang Wei being involved is not true.

Chan reckons there hasn't been a good Chinese sword film since Ang Lee's "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" in 2000 but he hopes to offer some unique sword-fighting scenes in his movie.

"Wu Xia" will start shooting at the end of the month in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

LOL back to his roots:

Donnie Yen to Star in Comedy with Carina Lau, Louis Koo, and Angelababy

Media Asia’s most popular martial arts star, Donnie Yen Chi Dan, has become a mainland box office magnet. Although his filming fee has increased astronomically to $25 million (Yuan), Donnie continues to be in high demand. Recently, Raymond Wong Pak Ming convinced Donnie to star in comedy, All’s Well, Ends Well 2011 "至強囍事 2011". In All’s Well, Ends Well 2011, Donnie will portray a make-up artist and have a romantic relationship with model, Carina Lau Ka Ling. This will be the only film in his career where Donnie will not have any fighting sequences. Louis Koo will also portray a make-up artist.

The new All’s Well, Ends Well 2011 will be directed by Chan Hing Ka and released during the same time as the sequel to TVB’s 72 Tenants of Prosperity "72家租客". Since All’s Well, Ends Well 2010 "花田囍事 2010" lost box office sales to 72 Tenants of Prosperity last year, Raymond has strengthened the cast by adding Donnie Yen, Carina Lau, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Lynn Hung Dai Lam, and Angelababy in the new movie. Mainland actress, Yan Ni, will pair with Raymond Wong.

Since the success of Ip Man "葉 問", each of Donnie’s subsequent films have grossed over $100 million (Yuan) in China . Last year his filming fee was $15 million (Yuan), which has increased to $25 million (Yuan) this year. Allegedly, Raymond Wong will be paying Donnie $15 million (Yuan) for only ten days of filming for All’s Well, Ends Well 2011.

After completing Peter Chan’s Wu Xia "武俠" in Yunnan , Donnie will return to Hong Kong to film All’s Well, Ends Well 2011. In November, he is scheduled to film the $300 million project, "大鬧天宮". In a telephone interview, Donnie said, “I would like to film a comedy and test the strength of my comic skills.”

Raymond Wong said, “Earlier, my mother passed away, so I did not have time to plan the production details for All’s Well, Ends Well 2011. I decided to cast Donnie Yen because he has potential in comedies. I also know that he is interested in changing his image and film comedies. In Ip Man, he can fight against ten people at the same time. In the new film, he will play a make-up artist who can apply make-up for ten models at the same time.”

Regarding Donnie’s filming fee, Raymond said, “Let’s not discuss it, otherwise people will say I elevated the fees in the industry! Each time I produce a Lunar New Year film, I put forth a large investment because I want to produce a quality film.” Raymond also mentioned that if Sandra Ng Kwan Yu were not pregnant, he may cast her in the film too.

The music video of the closing score of the action thriller "Legend of the Fist: The return of Chen Zhen" directed by Lau Wai-Keung and featuring Donnie Yen and Shu Qi has been released, iFeng.com reports.

The shadowy lighting coupled with Shu Qi's haunting voice has the ability to move viewers to tears. Scenes of the love affair between Yen's character, the superhero Chen Zhen, and Shu's Kiki are also shown. There is also some implication in the video that Kiki has a relationship with Anthony Wong's character, Liu, the boss of the nightclub where Kiki works.

The video was edited by Lau himself.

new stills, so fucking hardcore!

Director Lau Wai-Keung's new action film "Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen," featuring Donnie Yen and Shu Qi, has released new stills. Chen Zhen (played by Donnie Yen) is tortured by a Japanese army officer. The cruelness in the scene is very rarely seen in Chinese films. Kiki's (by Shu Qi) identity is still a mystery. Previous stills show that Kiki is a singer in night club, a Japanese army officer and Chen Zhen's lover. In the latest stills, she's watching Chen Zhen in the torture room. [Photo: QQ.com]

The new kung fu blockbuster "Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen" has had a gala premiere at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

Director Andrew Lau, lead actor Donnie Yen and lead actress Shu Qi were all in attendance.

The film marks Yen and Shu's first collaboration. Shu says she admires Yen's work ethics.

"Donnie Yen wakes up early to practice martial arts and shape his figure. He watches his diet, and doesn't eat that much unless needed. He is highly self-disciplined and really respects his work. I learned a lot from him."

And the admiration is mutual.

"I also learned a lot from Shu Qi. Besides her acting skills, she is such a sincere person and she is an actress with real personality. I am looking forward to our next collaboration. I don't know when but I hope soon."

"Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen" opened on the Chinese mainland on Tuesday (September 21). It will open in Hong Kong and Taiwan later in the week.

BIOTCH!!!

Carina Lau suffers 20 hours without rest, due to Donnie Yen?

  (http://img158.imagevenue.com/loc561/th_24817_Carina2_122_561lo.jpg) (http://img158.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=24817_Carina2_122_561lo.jpg)(http://img127.imagevenue.com/loc127/th_24822_Carina_122_127lo.jpg) (http://img127.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=24822_Carina_122_127lo.jpg)

Carina Lau is recently busy shooting for Pegasus Motion Picture's All Well, Ends Well 2011. She expressed that for 20 hours she did not rest and implied that it is due to having to rush the scenes with Donnie Yen. Yesterday, Carina, Donnie, Louis Koo, Maggie Lee, Ciwi Lam, Irene Wong and producer Wong Bak Ming attended the movie's press conference. Cecilia Cheung did not attend because she was sick. Carina Lau said: "I was thinking for a long time last night, I can't be suffering like this. I can handle it, but I'm afraid the results won't turn out good. Not enough sleep, lack of oxygen, luckily the dialogue is very funny, so I can laugh."

Asked if it was because of Donnie's several movies scheduled that are overlapping that cause the rush? Carina said: "Should be, definitely rushing him, it's a busy period for him. I am actually not that busy." Donnie explained: "In fact, my schedule is not overlapped, it's just one movie after another. This year it's only 3 movies, not counting the one I'm starting tomorrow." After Carina heard this, she said: "Huh? Another one? Exactly like that. Really have to calculate the overtime money."

Seeing this, Donnie did some sweet talking: "Actually Carina Jeh is a very good actress, very playful, pretty and young. It's rare for her to accept filming movies." Carina replied: "Thank you for picking me!"

Donnie Yen is the 2010 Box Office King

騰訊網2010星光大典甄子丹獲年度電影最具影響力人物 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTRBDlqVyyE#)

Donnie Yen proves he is the "strongest in the universe" this year.

The Hong Kong actor has three films out this year---"Ip Man 2," "Legend of the Fist the Return of Chen Zhen," and "14 Blades"---and they rocked the box office in Chinese-speaking areas. All three films hit more than 100 million at the box office in Mainland. The "Ip Man" sequel is even the box office winner in Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore.

With a combined box office of nearly 485 million, Donnie is very satisfied and he hopes Chinese films will continue to do well in all areas.

"Everyone's acknowledgment encouraged me to do better. I'll not disappoint you guys," says the actor.

Not only his films are popular in Asia, American viewers also paid attention to Donnie's films. In an IMDB poll "Top 25 User-Rated Movies of 2010," his "Ip Man 2" beat popular action movie "Iron 2" and took 12th place as one of the top user-rated movies of 2010.

"You will be blown away by the fights," a user writes, "carefully thought out, executed, and filmed as a true form of art."

New Year comedy "All's Well, Ends Well" ("Zui Qiang Xi Shi") is not only the first comeback movie of Cecilia Cheung, but also the first collaboration between Donnie Yen and Carina Lau.

Forty-eight-year-old Yen and 46-year-old Lau star as a couple in the movie. Donnie Yen's role is a cosmetic artist, and his onscreen lover, Carina Lau, is a model. According to a source from the movie's production company, it was Yen himself who requested to act alongside Carina Lau in the movie.

Although Donnie Yen will not showcase his kung fu skill in this film, audiences will be able to watch him dance, something else at which he is very talented.

The historical action movie "The Lost Bladesman" ("Guan Yunchang"), starring Donnie Yen and Jiang Wen, will open in Chinese cinemas on April 28, Sina.com.cn reports.

The production company also released a poster featuring Yen's look in the movie. Since it was announced that Yen would portray famous general Guan Yu, also known as Guan Yunchang, in the movie, many fans have doubted whether he could look like Guan as the latter's story is so popular in China and his statue can be seen in many temples throughout the country.

"Yen's look will be in accordance with most people's visual image of Guan Yu," said film directors Alan Mak and Felix Chong.

Yen said he hoped audiences could accept his performance as Guan Yu.

Actor Jiang Wen stars as famous warlord Cao Cao in the movie, a very important character in the story, which tells about how Guan Yu tries to escape from Cao Cao and return to his brother Liu Bei.

Alex Fong Chung-Sun plays Liu Bei, and actress Sun Li stars as a young woman named Qi Lan, who does not appear in the original story.

Ten Questions with Flash Point Star Donnie Yen

Donnie Yen is the connoisseur's martial artist. Quite possibly more than any other recognized Hong Kong action star, Yen's fight scenes have consistently "raised the bar" for the genre. His breakthrough role in 1992's Once Upon a Time in China II featured a fight with Jet-Li that's something of a yardstick for action in the genre. Americans might remember him best as Sky, the legendary swordsman and the first opponent (or ally) of Nameless (Jet Li). Though brief and shrouded in grey and rain, his fight in Hero is instantly memorable and full of the trademark feats of physicality you'll find in any film he commits himself to.

The son of Wushu master Bow Sim Mark, Yen's dexterity in the martial arts is hard to match. He's worked in so many varieties and trained so extensively it seems hard for a film production like Flash Point to hope for a more appropriate star to cast. With mind-boggling fight choreography, Flash Point was honored with multiple awards in it's native Hong Kong and will likely go on to engage the MMA attracted audiences stateside as well. The film stars Yen as a detective trying to save his undercover partner (Louis Koo) from a deadly trio of gangster brothers including Collin Chou, and is in limited release now.

Flash Point features some really impressive mixed martial arts. You have an extensive background in martial arts but I would still think the training would be challenging. Was it challenging? What new things did you have to learn to prepare?

Donnie Yen: The real challenge was in meeting my own expectations. I have such huge respect for MMA fighters, and I was determined that we should make every effort to present their art cinematically, without compromising on the techniques and "reality" of what they do. I underwent MMA training, I watched hours of fight footage and, in the end, I think we came close to capturing the MMA flavor in our fight scenes. The biggest challenge, for me was doing repeated takes of the movements that I choreographed for myself. Sometimes it really did feel like I'd been in a real fight!

I understand that part of the allure of Mixed Martial Arts is the realism of mistakes: Two people can punch at the same time, or sometimes punches won't make contact. Does this expose you to any harm? Is it easier to get hurt when you perform this type of action? Have you had many on-set injuries so far in your career?

DY: I don't think it's possible to have a career in martial arts movies, and certainly not Asian martial arts movies, without sustaining injuries. Ironically, one of my most serious injuries occurred very early in my career, and it wasn't even in a full on martial arts movie. On my second film, this break-dance comedy called Mismatched Couples, I did a stunt where I'm slammed backwards into a wall, and I hurt my shoulder really badly. I also suffered severe burns on my arm doing a scene in my first film, Drunken Tai Chi. All these things add up over the years, and it doesn't get any easier. There is definitely a greater degree of contact in an MMA style fight scene than there is in a more stylized kung fu movie. However, you can get hurt performing the simplest scene. You just have to stay on your guard.

In Flash Point, you're returning as Sergeant Ma, the character you played in S.P.L. What's interesting about this character to you?

DY: Actually, it's a different character with some similar characteristics. We had explored a prequel to SPL (Killzone), because I died in the first film, but it was too limiting in terms of the story. I've played many different characters in my career, but I have to admit that, going back to In The Line Of Duty and Tiger Cage, there's something about this tough cop that appeals to me. I think audiences like to see a film where this guy lays down the law against bad guys who are getting away with hurting innocent people.

What are your five favorite martial arts films of all time, and why?

DY: (I like) Enter The Dragon and Fist Of Fury, because they star my all-time idol, Bruce Lee. Prodigal Son,, starring Yuen Biao, directed by Sammo Hung. In terms of Wing Chun kung fu on camera: Sammo set the bar with that one. And we're trying to raise it (the bar) again with our new film, Yip Man. (I like) Drunken Master, with Jackie Chan, directed by my Sifu, Yuen Woo-ping. That created a whole new style of kung fu comedy. Heroes Of The East, by Lau Kar-leung. This is a classic Shaw Brothers film about a kung fu master who marries a Japanese woman, and finds he has to fight her relatives, all of whom know different Japanese arts. (It's a) Great concept, and someone should remake it. (It's not technically a kung fu movie, but I loved the last Rocky film, Rocky Balboa! Very touching, and the last fight was amazing.)

What's the biggest difference between making films in HK and the US?

DY: Two big differences: time and money! Actually, time, because you can give me all the money in the world and, if I don't have enough time, I can't give you a great action scene. The big difference in Asia is that the action director has complete control over that aspect of the film, from concept to shooting to editing. The Hollywood system is much more organized, and you have to deal with all these different producers etc. In some ways, that can be good. The development of scripts and the overall preparation for a film is definitely better in Hollywood. We have to try and bring the best from east and west together.

What's the biggest challenge to an Asian actor, especially one with a background in martial arts films, in branching out to a Hollywood career?

DY: I think getting a run of really good roles in decent films. You just have to see some of the films that Hong Kong stars have made in Hollywood to see how few good scripts there are for Asian leads. You need a run of films to sustain a career. For some reason, A list Hollywood directors don't tend to want to work with Asian stars, which is a shame. Also, everything takes so long, compared to Asia, meetings after meetings, and often with no result! Recently, there do seem to be more decent projects in development for Asian leads, so let's see what happens.

Are all of the stunts you did in your fights onscreen physically possible?

DY: In Flashpoint, absolutely. We kept the wirework to a minimum. Basically, we just used wires for safety, rather than to enhance the action. Most of what you see in the film's fight scenes is what actually happened on the set. The difference is that we maybe had to do ten or twenty takes, and you just see one! For a kung fu movie, you get a mixture of possible and less possible movements. For the swordplay films, with all the wires, it's all fantasy!

How is it taking direction after you yourself have been a director? Do you ever disagree with your director because you think there is a better way to handle a scene, both in dramatic and in fight scenes?

DY: It's a relief! When I was starring, directing myself, choreographing, producing my own film... Too much! I just worked with Ching Siu-tung (on Empress and her Warriors) and Gordon Chan (on Painted Skin,), and both experiences were just great. As an actor, you want to put yourselves in the hands of a great director, and I really enjoy just focusing on the character and the performance. Regarding the martial arts scenes, after all these years, I may have some comment on how to do something better or faster, but I generally just go along with the action director.

You must get along with Wilson Yip. Flash Point is one of many collaboration with him and you have more collaborations (Yip Man) in the works.

DY: I have a great time working with Wilson. We did SPL (Killzone), Dragon Tiger Gate, Flashpoint and now we're shooting Yip Man. (As I mentioned above, Painted Skin was directed by Gordon Chan). Wilson's very quiet, very focused. When we work together, he really helps me keep on track in terms of the story and character development. We make a great team, and I hope to work with him again!

Tell us more about your latest project, Yip Man!

DY: We're shooting Yip Man now, in Shanghai. Sammo Hung is the action director. I've wanted to do this film for years. I've been training in Wing Chun kung fu, and especially working on the wooden dummy, so I can do justice to this story and this character. We have the full support of Yip Man's family, which is great. Having just done Flash Point, it's great to do a completely different style of action for this film.

Fifteen Minute Interview with Donnie Yen

Martial Edge: In Flashpoint you play Inspector Ma Jun, taking on a hardened Vietnamese Gang. Where did you get the inspiration for the character?

Donnie Yen: I get inspired by people I've met in Hong Kong over the years, real local cops, and, I have to admit, by characters I've seen in American cop movies. Its not one guy. Its a combination of influences.

Martial Edge: Flashpoint has been described by some fans as a veiled sequel to S.P.L., would this be accurate?

Donnie Yen: Its not a sequel as such, but maybe its in the same vein as S.P.L., or Killzone, because its a cop thrillerflash-point-new.jpg with MMA style action scenes. I feel we took the action one step further in this film, and I hope audiences enjoy it as much, or more, than they did S.P.L.

Martial Edge: Collin Chou plays one of your adversaries in Flashpoint. What was it like working with Colin?

Donnie Yen: First of all, Collin is a great guy, a really nice person, a family man. He worked harder than anyone I've ever worked with. He has great martial arts skills, and I was really proud that we got to shoot such a memorable fight scene together.

Martial Edge: In the last few years we have seen a move towards more realistic combat in movies such as the Jason Bourne series. With basing the fighting sequences on Mixed Martial Arts in Flashpoint is this a signal that Hong Kong Cinema is making the move towards this style of fighting?

Donnie Yen: I don't know about Hong Kong cinema as a whole. Personally, I'm a huge fan of MMA, and with Flashpoint, and SPL, I was trying to express MMA techniques in a cinematic setting. You have to apply the style that fits the script. My new film, Yip Man, is all kung fu fighting!

Martial Edge: Training for the movie must have been gruelling. What kind of fitness regime did you have in place to ensure that you were in top condition for the start of filming?

Donnie Yen: When I'm going to be shooting a specific scene, I train accordingly. Diet is very important in terms of how you look on camera. For the Flashpoint fights, I trained MMA techniques with my stunt team, combination kicks, punches, takedowns and so on. I do light weight training, more for function than bulk. Luckily, after all these years, my body responds pretty fast.

Martial Edge: Was training ongoing whilst on set?

Donnie Yen: No, I had absolutely no time to train on set. I was starring and action directing, so I barely had time to sit down!

Martial Edge: With Flashpoint you are teaming up with Wilson Yip again. What attributes as a director do you admire and what makes the partnership so successful between you both?

Donnie Yen: Wilson is a very calm person, very introspective. I tend to be more energetic, so that makes us a good team. I tend to focus on the specific scene, and he's very aware of the script and the story as a whole. We've just started Yip Man, which is our fourth film together, so something must be working!

interesting article from actors getting their ass kicked by Donnie

Andy On battles Donnie Yen in a narrow corridor

Andy On Chi Kit and Donnie Yen Chi Tan in THE LOST BLADESMAN (GUAN WON CHEUNG) had major scenes of crossing five passes and slaying six generals. He held nothing back as he fought until he was all battered and bruised. With the strongest in the universe Lord Don in sight he was merciless. Afterward even his girlfriend Jennifer Tse Ting Fung's heart ached upon learning how crazy he was.

In one scene they fought in a narrow corridor. In the midst of their fight, they still carefully minded their horses around them. Trying to avoid injuries, the degree of difficulty was extremely high. Finally On Chi Kit in order to protect a horse in the narrow corridor bruised his arms on the walls around him. Reportedly Ting Ting understood that her boyfriend would be fully involved in every action scene, which often worried her. Speaking of this narrow corridor scene, On Chi Kit said that it was an exciting performance. He said, "This scene took over ten days, the most difficult of which was accommodate the horses that we were trapped with us in the narrow corridor; because horses were easily spooked, when Lord Don and I fought, we often had to spin and couldn't take another step. We had to be careful so the horses didn't harm us. Thus everyday the shoot took a long time."

As for working with Yen Chi Tan for the first time, On Chi Kit said that he was somewhat worried at first. He said, "I earlier often heard people describing Lord Don with the strongest in the universe, which left me somewhat frightened. However after one or two days at work we became very familiar very quickly. He not only was not arrogant but took great care of me." Chi Tan also had nothing but praise for On Chi Kit and even said that he could be a successor in a new generation action film.

Wow Donnie's like 48 now.

Unfortunately, there's too much CGI in martial arts films today so I'm kinda wary about them especially those in a historical setting. Except for Yip Man, that is.

Yip Man 1 & 2 were pretty good in terms of fight scenes, although I have to say I liked the 1st one better when he goes up the 10 Japanese karate guys.

But for those who haven't seen his earlier movies, like SPL, do it now.

I remember that scene in SPL where he's fighting in that narrow alley with a retractable baton...that was pretty cool.

But one of the most hectic fight scenes (no CGI my friends) has got to be between him and Jet Li in Wong Fei Hung 2 (otherwise known as Once Upon a Time in China II)

That was when he and Jet Li were young and much 'fitter' than now (ie prime of physical life).

lol what, just randomly searching for movies and found Donnie Yen and Stephen Chow in a TVB collabo. He's the Western Cop to show the Hong Kong cops how they do it in America ("I popped uzi's vs gangstaz!") Even has Francis Ng as the bad guy. Of course he has to go topless (as I heard he did at the recent Cannes Film Festival) lol

that's Hong Kong for ya! work nonstop!

Donnie Yen trains son to be his successor

Donnie Yen Chi Tan two days ago attended a video game ad press conference in Guangzhou. He honestly said that he did not have time to play games with his son. Instead he would be with the children more on outdoor activities. He also revealed that his three year old son had quite a desire to perform, thus he wanted to wait until he was older then he would teach him to become his successor.

Chi Tan in the game played a chief instructor. In comparison to making a movie, he thought the kung fu in the film was not as stringent as film. Many criticized online games as unhealthy, Chi Tan urged everyone to know the proper balance. "You can't say playing games is unhealthy, game is one of the products that prove the society is improving. I am busy so I don't have time to play games with children. In general we would do some outdoor activities and I would get an understanding of their daily school experience more. Since I treat myself like their friends, I would communicate equally with them more." Chi Tan also said that the best gift for the children was to participate in the children's lives. "My son is three year old and has never seen my movies. I used to think it's in his genetics. My son is amazing, he has quite a desire to perform. When he gets older I will teach him. He will be my successor." As for the three roles of good actor, good father and good husband, Chi Tan honestly said that good father is the hardest. Ultimately he and the children have age differences, and they keep maturing and changing. He has to grow up with them at their pace.

With the success of IP MAN, Chi Tan keeps on getting film offers. Yet he has not worked himself to death because he would like to play some characters that everyone has never seen. In addition he would like to spend more time on his children, thus he asked for time off. Has he thought about giving up acting? He confidently said, "Absolutely not. Chinese kung fu film is a very valuable film genre. Since I still have some influence, why not keep expanding it so it can keep getting international recognition? Most recent WU XIA's Cannes word of mouth has been great, the overseas media's generally good review is very rare. As a part of it, I am very proud."

EPIC!!!

68 Year Old Jimmy Wang forces Donnie Yen's hands

In Peter Chan Ho Sun's film WU XIA, the sect leader role did not have much screen time but was an important character. He once wanted Chow Yun Fat but he knew that Chow Yun Fat might not take it. However at the time he could not remove Chow Yun Fat's face from his mind until art director Yee Chung Man mentioned Jimmy Wang Yu. Because Big Brother Wang thought this character was good, he lowered his salary and said that one dollar was enough.

Wang Yu revealed that the first day of work originally was not so smooth, after communicating with the director he realized that Donnie Yen Chi Tan was taking care of him. He said, "On my first day I saw my double and I was very angry inside, treating me like an old man. Although I am already 68, every morning I would run for 40 minutes, lift weights for 100 repetitions and do 100 push ups. At the time I went over to Chan Ho Sun and said, I wouldn't use a double, let me fight, even wire work would not be a problem for me. Yet Chan Ho Sun told me, Yen Chi Tan was not the most afraid of me unable to complete the action but of not daring to strike me. He hoped that I would forgive him. Later in one scene he needed to strike at me, I directly went to him and viciously upset him. If he was not vicious, then I was. Later I upset him so he began to fight."

Donnie Yen's encounter with gays in Italy

It’s not just girls who find Donnie Yen attractive.

The Hong Kong superstar had a close encounter with gays at a party held by Dolce & Gabbana in Milan, Italy recently.

Two hunky models approached the action megastar at the event and their hands started wandering as they talked. Yen, unaware of their intention, continued to exchange pleasantries with the guys, until they were pulled away by an event personnel who later told Yen that his new friends were actually gays.

“They are very friendly,” he said with a laugh, adding that his wife Cissy Wang was one step ahead of him in realizing what the models were up to.

“I don’t mind befriending gays. I would be glad to have gay fans. It’s such a huge market. It’s a good thing to have people appreciating me,” he said.

Donnie Yen praises Tang Wei as better than Lynn Xiong

Donnie Yen Chi Tan and Tang Wei earlier appeared on a Mainland site Sohu to discuss the Peter Chan Ho Sun directed WU XIA. Playing a couple with Lynn Xiong (Hung Doi Lam) and Tang Wei, how would he rate these two "wives"? He stated, "Hung Doi Lam is a little taller than Tang Wei, but Tang Wei's performance was more than a little better than Hung Doi Lam's." Yen Chi Tan said, Tang Wei very obviously was a very excellent actress. No matter whether they would have a chance to work on another action film, working with her on this film her concentration and professionalism were unforgettable for him.

In addition, Tang Wei while making WU had to wear wet clothing everyday. For continuity she had to wear it for 10 to 20 hours. Aside from acting, she also had to have endurance. Thus Chi Tan praised Tang Wei and looked forward to working with her on another action film with him as the action director.

LOL! man of all trades

Donnie Yen turns to music?

Donnie Yen Chi Tan for the Lunar New Year film ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL 2012 (BAK SING PO HEI) played a rocker and let go along with co-star Sandra Ng Kwan Yu for comedy. After his earlier rock look his new song's music video was released today to celebrate the New Year.

Chi Tan with long hair and a guitar reprised Sam Hui Koon Kit's classic hits GENIUS AND IDIOT and GENIUS IDIOT DREAM and was quite a pleasant surprise. Even his wife Cissy Wang joked, "I have never seen my hubby like this!" She joked that with just a glimpse she thought Chi Tan changed nationalities.

Chi Tan who changed from his always serious ways was very satisfied with his look. "Originally when boss (Raymond) Wong Pak Ming asked me to play this character, I was supposed to be a soccer player. However I regained my confidence in music so I suggested the change to a rocker. I spent two months before the shoot on guitar practice, my friends said that I played convincingly. Hopefully viewers would like
it."

Reportedly, Wong Pak Ming was interested with the film's DVD release to release a solo record for Chi Tan to fulfill his singer dream. Chi Tan humbly said, "This time I am just messing around so I have no pressure, but I really never thought about invading the music scene. I don't think I am ready yet."

Actually when Chi Tan was working on television he already performed a series theme song. More than a decade later, he again returned to the studio for acting. Chi Tan still thought it was refreshing. "Hui Koon Kit is a singer who I have always admired. Being able to sing his work, I am very happy. (Will you compete for the music rookie award next year?) I wouldn't mind, but the most important is for viewers to see my sincerity."

Donnie Yen helps the government disinfect new building

Donnie Yen Chi Tan yesterday worked on the upcoming film production 3D THE ICEMAN COMETH (3D GUP DUNG KEI HUP) poster. Producer and investor Stephen Shiu Jr. revealed that the film production cost reached US$20 million because of its many large scale scenes. The production already received an approval for a four hour shoot on the Ching Ma Bridge, and even planned to shoot location at the Government House and the new Government Headquarter for the ending. As for the new Government Headquarter virus, Chi Tan said fearlessly, "We can help them disinfect."

Chi Tan said that the rumor of him making 200 million was exaggerated. "I didn't count, I left it all for my wife to handle." He reiterated that he did not feel he made a lot because actors all looked glorious on the surface. In addition the performing art life would not be long, the more he worked the more he got. Was his next target the Best Actor award? He said, "I haven't deliberately thought about becoming the Best Actor, but I hope to try different characters." For example in the comedy ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL 2012 (BAK SING PO HEI), he claimed that he performed without holding back and hoped the audience would like it. Speaking of the Tony Leung Chiu Wai starred THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) still has no release date yet, would he make another IP MAN? He said, "I wouldn't make another one after someone else's is released. Actually I am still brewing, when the time arrives I would make it again."

Donnie Yen takes on Vincent Zhao for viewers

Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Jing Tian, Vincent Zhao Wenzhou, Zhang Hanyu and director Clarence Ford (Fok Yiu Leung) yesterday attended the action film DUT SHU SUN FUN (SPECIAL IDENTITY)'s production start press conference in Beijing. Chi Tan will even be the film's producer and action director. The event displayed a highlight of Chi Tan's classic action scenes so the live audience could experience "Yen Kung Fu" dominance. Chi Tan hoped to create an action film classic in "triple identities".

This would be Chi Tan and Zhao Wenzhou's first collaboration. They admired each other and even looked forward to their fight scene in the film. Chi Tan stated that he would as the "action director" design several "brilliant" fight scene for him and Zhao Wenzhou so viewers would have fun. As the producer, he joked that "producer" actually was "hard work" (homonym). He actually would learn from director Fok Yiu Leung and participated in the shoot like an apprentice.

Golden Horse Award winning Best Actor Zhang Hanyu has always appeared in a courageous and cool tough guy image and rarely made action films. Working with two kung fu superstars Chi Tan and Zhao Wenzhou, he looked forward to this film the most this year.

As for fight scene break through, Zhang Hanyu said that he would "pick up a few tricks" and revealed that he has already begun his action training. This time has been very tough but he looked forward to the fight scenes that Chi Tan would arrange for him.

STALKERS!! UNITE!

Donnie Yen attracts thousands in Shenzhen

Donnie Yen Chi Tan two nights ago worked on the Clarence Ford (Fok Yiu Leung) directed film DUT SHU SUN FUN in Shenzhen. Because they had to shoot a pouring rain scene, three blocks were blocked. The team yesterday posted notices that detailed the production date and location to inform nearby residents.

The notice achieved the opposite effect though as the notice was posted online. Two nights ago fans flocked to the location as almost 1,000 people gathered. Some even looked at from nearby roofs.

Chi Tan never expected such a turn out and even he was surprised. He urged everyone to pay attention to safety. Director Fok Yiu Leung might have expected the situation, thus he arranged for almost 70 person security team to maintain order. He said, "The security team included powerful locals and the police. Security would be very steady."

For the rain scene, three large water trucks and many workers participated. Chi Tan in the film played an undercover officer. Two nights ago he appeared in a mobster look. Famous tattoo artists spent four to five hours on him.

DUT not only starred Chi Tan also also Vincent Zhao Wenzhou, Zhang Hanyu and Mainland star Jing Tian. Fok Yiu Leung pointed out that because the investor really liked Cih Tan, the investment had no upper limit. He admitted that at first Chi Tan worried the watch and the chains would be scratched during fight scenes. He asked for counterfeits instead but the boss did not mind. He told Chi Tan to fight and not to keep it in mind. Chi Tan was not only an actor but also an action director. Earlier he secretly trained Jing Tian for a week and praised her potential.

The film will shoot in Shenzhen and Hong Kong. In Shenzhen the wired action scenes on the roof would be shot as well as a five car crash with six HK$600,000 luxury cars. Five would be totalled and one would be the back up. Later the team will shoot in Hong Kong and even use a helicopter.

Donnie Yen to return as Ip Man in 3D "Ip Man 3"
Posted: 09 April 2012 1607 hrs

DONNIE YEN Story (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3A2a_P_c7w#)

HONG KONG: "Ip Man 3" script writer Edmond Wong revealed last week that Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen will return as martial arts master Ip Man in "Ip Man 3", which will feature 3D visual effects, reported Hong Kong media.

This has been confirmed by Yen's publicist, who said that Yen "is looking forward" to working on a 3D "Ip Man" film, and had entered into preliminary discussions with the film's producer Raymond Wong, though he "had not yet seen the script".

Edmond Wong further revealed that "Ip Man 3" will see Ip Man's famous student, martial arts legend Bruce Lee, play a big part in the story, though Ip Man will remain the film's central character.

"What is certain is that the film will begin with Bruce Lee becoming Ip Man's disciple. As for who will play Bruce Lee, we will have to do a large-scale casting exercise.

"Stars like Aarif Lee and Danny Chan are suitable and have played Bruce Lee before, but we are looking for a 16-17 year-old Bruce Lee. They may be a little too old. It is all up to Wilson Ip (the film's director) to decide," said Wong.

"Ip Man 3" producer Raymond Wong, added that the film will have a much bigger budget than "Ip Man" and "Ip Man 2", as it will feature fight scenes enhanced with 3D effects.

"Ip Man 3" will be the third film in the "Ip Man" series of martial arts films, which have done exceptionally well in the box office and had sparked a renewed interest in Wing Chun, a form of martial arts practised by Ip Man.

The film is scheduled to go into production at the end of the year.

HK kung fu star Dennie Yen embroiled in porn film scandal
Updated: 2012-04-18

An online post has caused a stir alleging that Donnie Yen had acted in porn movies.

The article, titled "Donnie Yen acted in porn film, surrounded by 10 naked women", became the hottest topic of discussion in Chinese forums.

It was posted after Shu Qi's withdrawal from weibo, following humiliating posts on her past mistakes.

The writer alleged that the Ip Man star had appeared in several porn films including 1991's The Holy Virgin Versus The Evil Dead.

"You think only Shu Qi acted in porn? Donnie didn't? You are wrong!

"See you all complained that Shu Qi acted in this and that everyday, you think Donnie only innocently shot kungfu movies?" the writer alleged.

"I have seen three porn films of Donnie. He has four all together, three of which were horror movies," the writer alleged in his post.

The writer also posted clips allegedly from the film to support his article.

In response, Donnie posted two lines of lyrics from Sam Hui and the late Leslie Cheung's Silence is Golden.

"Let people laugh and scold as they like, be a carefree person," he wrote.

The HK$200 million production THE ICEMAN COMETH 3D (3D BING FUNG HUP) has turned Hong Kong upside down with lead actor Donnie Yen Chi Tan. Two nights ago lead actress Eva Huang Shengyi appeared as well.

Yen Chi Tan has been very busy as a director and an actor on his new film. Earlier he landed in costume in Causeway Bay for the shoot and the city was jam packed. Two nights ago the film moved to a Tsim Sha Tsui alley with many bars. the location was decorated for Halloween, thus extras appeared in different costumes. In a down jacket Yen Chi Tan and Huang Shengyi soon appeared and prepared for the performance.

Before the official shoot, the team bought a lot of street snacks like fish ball, shu mai and skewers and filled the table for the cast. With lemon tea in her hand Huang Shengyi and co-star Sukie Shek Wing Lei were drawn to the food. Huang Shengyi picked up a skewer and could not stop herself from stuffing her face while chatting with Shek Wing Lei.

Yen Chi Tan already had a bag of candy for himself as he chatted with the crew. He also did not turn anyone who asked for a photo away. Soon Chi tan removed his jacket and his costume was revealed. He stood in the center and performed, attracting many pedestrians to look on.

Shek Wing Lei, Jacqueline Chong Si Man and Mark Wu Yiu Fai guest starred in costumes. Chong Si Man in a wild kitten look was very eye catching. Director Law Wing Cheong and Chi Tan chatted before the shoot. With better communication the production went especially smooth.

In the story Chi Tan came from the past to modern times and appeared at a Halloween party, thus Chi Tan despite his costume remained undetected. Because Chi Tan has been frozen for 400 years, he was very hungry when he woke up. Seeing ramen at the party, he wolfed down 10 bowls and stacked the bowls high. Chi Tan had a noodle in his mouth, which was a super funny look. Chi Tan saw the people in ox and horse costumes getting close and worried that he went to Hell. Chi Tan kicked their chairs and they all fell onto the floor. At this moment Chi Tan ran into Huang Shengyi and fell in love at first sight.

Donnie Yen, Wang Baoqiang and Eva Huang at a press conference

After a short hiatus from his acting career, action star Donnie Yen is ready to begin a new project as the movie “Iceman Cometh 3D” began shooting already.

The $150 million-budgeted 3D blockbuster also stars Simon Yam, Wang Baoqiang and Eva Huang. Yen not only leads the movie, but also performs as the martial-arts choreographer for it.

“The Iceman Cometh 3D” revolves around a Captain America-like character portrayed by Yen. The heroic role and his evil foe, played by Wang Baoqiang, lived during the Ming Dynasty. Both were frozen during a fight and were defrosted in modern times where they continue their battle.

The movie is set for release in 2013.

Donnie Yen philosophizes his success

Donnie Yen may have been recently named the highest paid Hong Kong celebrity of 2012, but the "Ip Man" actor doesn't find his whopping HKD263 million such a big deal.

According to Jayne Stars website, the actor revealed, "In terms of our flourishing society, an artiste's income isn't that high. Often, artistes have to work a lifetime to develop their career. You may earn nothing at first, but when you are doing well, others will only see your success."

The actor continued, "Take me for example. I had to struggle for many years to get to where I am today. If you compare my life's work with professionals like lawyers and doctors, my income is nothing."

The actor was of course talking about his earlier years as a stuntman for films and dramas, before hitting the big screen with his first major role, "Drunken Tai Chi" in 1984. In those days, the action star had to invest in his own films, and had to live off of a few hundred dollars for several months.

Donnie also credited his wife, Cecilia Wang for his financial success.

"She's the one who helped me manage my investments and budgets. If you are scared of your wife, you become rich. I believe this," the actor joked.

"A moment of triumph does not represent a life of success; a moment of setback does not represent a life of failure. This is what I have learned from my past experiences," the actor expressed.

In related news, Donnie's upcoming films in 2013 include "The Monkey King 3D", "Special Identity", "The Iceman Cometh 3D", and "Ip man 3D".

[2013.03.07] DONNIE YEN IS WAITING FOR IP MAN 3

Donnie Yen Chi Tan yesterday was an ambassador for the BMW Hong Kong Derby. Currently busy with THE ICEMAN COMETH 3D (3D BING FUNG HUP), Chi Tan said that he was waiting for Wilson Yip Wai Shun's schedule to open up for IP MAN 3. Speaking of Ip Man's disciple Sin Kwok Lam's claim that Wong Chau Sun was the most convincing Ip Man and that too many Ip Man films have made the subject dull, Chi Tan said, "That's fine, everyone has his own idea. Film should blossom with variety, no one would mind too many good movies. The most important is viewers like them."

[2013.03.17] UMA THURMAN DUELS WITH DONNIE YEN

Hollywood star Uma Thurman and Donnie Yen Chi Tan last night attended the Power of Film charity show. They chatted nonstop and picked up KILL BILL's prop weapons to pretend to duel.

When asked if she remembered KILL BILL's Hong Kong actor Gordon Liu (Lau Ka Fai)? She said, "I remember him, we haven't seen each other in a long time. Will he come tonight? Will I see him?" When the press informed her that Lau Ka Fai suffered stroke and was not well, she was surprised and said, "I am sadden to hear this news, I hope he recovers soon. He is a very talented actor. I will ask Quentin Tarantino to send my regards."

(http://t.imgbox.com/adjLSxI9.jpg) (http://imgbox.com/adjLSxI9) (http://t.imgbox.com/abcFp715.jpg) (http://imgbox.com/abcFp715) (http://t.imgbox.com/acbGjUFa.jpg) (http://imgbox.com/acbGjUFa) (http://t.imgbox.com/adpfUP3e.jpg) (http://imgbox.com/adpfUP3e)
with Korean star Kim So-Eun

How did Yen Chi Tan feel about the deal with Uma Thurman? He joked that since Uma Thurman came all this way, of course they had to duel. He praised Uma Thurman was easy going. As soon as she saw him she introduced herself and he did the same as well.

Chi Tan admired Uma Thurman very much and said that they both worked on action films. They also have a common friend -- Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino. Will he discuss working together with Uma Thurman? He said that they just met and did not talk about collaboration. How was Uma Thurman's agility? He said, "Of course she is great. Haven't you seen her performance in KILL BILL?"

Speaking of an otaku murdering and dismembering his parents, Chi Tan just rushed over from work and did not pay attention to the news. After learning about it from reporters he was shocked. As a parent the news had his hair standing on its end. The key to his relationship with his children was communication, he would discuss from his children's point of view and angle. Hearing this news, as a parent his heart ached. However, since he did not know the facts so he declined to comment.
Some said that the parents were too strict with their child, Chi Tan said that he was not too strict. His wife added, "No, I am pretty strict." Chi Tan said, "My wife is pretty strict, but this is an individual case. Every parent want his or her child to succeed. If he or she isn't strict the child would be spoiled. Ultimately all the parents of the world love their children."

[2013.03.16] DONNIE YEN BUILDS A BRIDGE FOR WHITE HORSE VS. LAMBORGHINI

(http://t.imgbox.com/abxqYP61.jpg) (http://imgbox.com/abxqYP61) (http://t.imgbox.com/acj09MQv.jpg) (http://imgbox.com/acj09MQv) (http://t.imgbox.com/abhjXvIH.jpg) (http://imgbox.com/abhjXvIH) (http://t.imgbox.com/abngMS63.jpg) (http://imgbox.com/abngMS63) (http://t.imgbox.com/acqFEy1g.jpg) (http://imgbox.com/acqFEy1g) (http://t.imgbox.com/abcG1C6j.jpg) (http://imgbox.com/abcG1C6j) (http://t.imgbox.com/acc90KXM.jpg) (http://imgbox.com/acc90KXM)

Donnie Yen Chi Tan recently has been busy with his new film THE ICEMAN COMETH 3D (3D BING FUNG HUP). A major scene was originally scheduled to be shot on the Ching Ma Bridge, but finally the team relocated it to a very realistic Ching Ma Bridge replica at the old airport.

Because this scene was a classic scene in THE ICEMAN COMETH, action director Lord Tan naturally asked to elevate it more. No wonder he kept an eye on it throughout the entire process. The film company not only bought a white horse for the shoot for also prepared over 30 cars to be obstacles. Executives also called in favors and convinced Julian Cheung Chi Lam to loan his over 3 million Lamborghini as a prop.

Lord Tan revealed that this time many of the Hollywood special effect elite participated in the production and the team was rather united. Speaking of the danger of horse riding, he admitted that the white horse was not used to run on concrete and added to the risk. He told the team that safety came first.

He said, "The preparation could take its time, safety first. (Are you afraid that you would injure and deform your finger like Nick Cheung Ka Fai did?) Actually mine were all broken long ago, they couldn't be extended. I too want the shoot to be more comfortable. I never expect the film company to give me even more idea. For example they came up with this scene." Did Lord Tan want to invade Hollywood with this film? He humbly said, "I haven't thought about it, I just wanted to do my part. As long as viewers like this film it's fine."

Yesterday Lord Tan rode a white horse in pursuit of the villain and faced off against Chilam's Lamborghini. The scene was both intense and exciting. Lord Tan understood that the audience was already tired of watching "fighting from the beginning to the end" action scene. He decided to try something new with visual effects this time. As for Chilam's loan, Lord Tan said, "I am not sure, the film company arranged for everything. If it's broken tell them to compensate. (Would you take Chilam to inner?) Any time. (Would you give him premiere tickets?) No problem."

Yen Chi Tan in the new film had a lot of action scenes. Lead actress Eva Huang Shengyi was no exception either. Earlier she rode a scooter on the Ma Ching Bridge replica. Shengyi was still a little shaken. "I was a little worried, but with Chi Tan in the back it's OK."

Once a "Sing Girl", did Shengyi ask Stephen Chow Sing Chi to dinner while working in Hong Kong? She admitted that they were in contact. "I didn't ask him to dinner though because everyone is so busy. Earlier he was busy with the Mainland promotion of JOURNEY TO THE WEST: CONQUERING THE DEMONS (SAI YAU GONG MOR PIN). I had to make movies and work on commercials. The work schedule is very tightly packed." However she took time to watch JOURNEY. "Although Sing Yeh didn't perform, it had a lot of Sing Yeh flavor. I too want to work with him again."

The film company built an 1:1 scale model of the Ching Ma Bridge at the old Kai Tak airport and spent almost half a month. To avoid the set being unveiled too soon, the film company even built three to four story tall barricades to hide it!

Reportedly, the film company applied to shoot on the Ching Ma Bridge with the government but was not approved. They then build the replica at the old Kai Tak airport.
