A drabble collection centering around the huge 2009 shuffle. As a background knowledge to readers who don't know about the shuffle:
In 2009, there was a surprise shuffle in an AKB concert. The members were uninformed of the shuffle and they were just as surprised as the fans were. Miichan was speaking when the lights suddenly went off and an MC, the guy from the senbatsu election results, walked out and announced the shuffle that was gonna happen which, as I've said, no one knew about. It was also announced that new captains will be assigned to each team and placards of the team names were brought out. The first three members to be mentioned and retained in the team shuffle are the new captains, Takamina, Sayaka, Yuki and Nontii (Transferred to SDN). From there, they hold on to their team names and the member shuffling begins.
This collection is about my take on how the shuffle affected the girls. It can range from many different genres.
Shuffling a Part of You and a Part of Me.
One. Fear - Mayu & Lovetan
Everything around her froze as the words of the MC reached her ears. The tears fell before she could even fully register what was happening and she looked on as a placard with a picture of Aika was lined up with Takamina who was holding a sign of TEAM A.
“No.” She whispered, shaking her head and closing her eyes tight. Hoping that this was all a dream, praying that when she opens her eyes, everything will be back to the way they were. Disappointment, pain and sadness hit her all at once when she opened her eyes and the names being called flowed in her ears again.
Mayu can’t believe it. She can’t believe any of the things that are happening. The sudden team shuffle, announcing of captains, transferring of members, transferring of Aika. She can’t believe any of it. All kinds of emotion stirred inside her as the shuffling continued on. She felt like she was betrayed by their management for not telling them about the shuffle. She felt a tinge of happiness at being retained in her team with Nacchan and Yukirin. She felt hurt as she watched the original members of team b move to their new teams. She felt devastated at the knowledge that Aika would be separated from her. She felt frustrated knowing that there’s nothing she can do to reverse what’s happening. She felt sad as she watched the wet faces of the best of friends as they were separated from each other and Mayu wondered if she looked like them too.
Mayu wondered what Aika’s reaction was. They were best of friends. Aika understood Mayu in a way no one does. She sees Mayu in a way others fail to do so. It’s the same for Mayu. She understood Aika like no one else and she looks at Aika and she can see everything the other girl tries to hide from the world. Aika was a part of Mayu and Mayu was a part of Aika. They have been together since the auditions and knowing that starting now, Aika wouldn’t be beside her scared Mayu to know end. Suddenly, all emotions were covered with fear.
Mayu’s scared that without Aika to support her, she would fail. She’s scared that without Aika to hold her hand, she would mess everything up. She’s scared that without Aika. . . Without Aika she wouldn’t be able to be herself. She was scared. The whole thought of being without Aika scared Mayu like nothing else can ever scare her.
She wrapped the sweat and tear soaked towel tighter around her neck as she closed her eyes, wishing, hoping and praying that everything would end soon. The sooner the shuffle ends, the sooner she can run to Aika before her fears devour her fully.
