Can you recommend a fighting anime/manga?
« on: January 16, 2007, 06:22:11 AM »
I'm not a huge anime fan, so I only like a few series, but I am looking for a good series that is martial arts or pro wrestling related. The only series I know of like this are:

Kinnikuman
Hajime no Ippo
Grappler Baki

Street fighting recommendations are fine, but I would like ones that involve some kind of organized group, like professional circuits. As well as what series to check out, do you know any places I get them from?

Thanks in advance.

Naruto and Scryed as well.  All 3 are mostly fighting.

First of the North Star!  Obsess over it enough and you can be a MMA fighter just like Josh Barnett :P

Yu Yu Hakusho (1st and 3rd arcs have organized tourneys)
HunterXHunter
IkkiTousen (similar to Tenjou Tenghe)
Variable Geo (similar to Tenjou Tenghe)
G Gundam (they don't resolve disputes with war or jankenpyon but rather with giant mechs with pilots who do martial arts)
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (similar to Hokuto no Ken)
Ranma 1/2
Fatal Fury (anime/movie. one of the better fighting game to anime adaptations)
Shaman King
Basilisk

Where to get them:
http://www.thespectrum.net/manga_scans/ - has rotating online scans for Hajime no Ippo, Naruto, Stret Fighter, etc., as well as previews for Tenjo Tenge.

http://gotlurk.net/ - iRC channel where you can get mangas in zip format

WAR AKARI!!! Infernal Ninjutsu, Hidden Lore...Freedom of Opposites Technique!!! Rest in peace Kyle,Jab,Mom,Tita, ChrNo...

Takeshi Maekawa's Tekken Chinmi is also a good martial arts series. the setting is in china and the fighting is really good. I don't know where to get it online though. I buy the locally translated tankoubon (legal ones, not the printed scanslation).

oh, the anime is also available. again, I don't know how to get it online though >_< sorry

^I thought the SF movie was good. I still haven't seen the original Japanese one though.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'll be sure to check these out. I'm familiar with a few, like DBZ, Jojo's Bizarre Adveture, and some others, but for some, I've only heard the names, but never knew what they were.

As already mentioned, the first anime that comes to my mind is Tenjou Tenge. A great anime, although there's a part of it I didn't like much but some people I know liked this particular part better than the beggining.

Why not try Busou Renkin?  It's got a mix of action, adventure, supernatural and shounen.

Also check out Vandread, a mix of mecha, lots of fighting and a really twisted plot.

Busou Renkin is available through http://anime.fansub.tv

Not sure about Vandread

 ;)
