     RAGE is a groundbreaking first-person shooter set in the not-too-distant future after an asteroid impacts Earth, leaving a ravaged world behind. You emerge into this vast wasteland to discover humanity working to rebuild itself against such forces as raider gangs, mutants, and the Authority – an oppressive government regime that has a special interest in you in particular. Featuring intense first-person action, vehicle combat, an expansive world and jaw-dropping graphics powered by id’s revolutionary idTech 5 technology. RAGE promises an experience like no other.

     RAGE is an upcoming first-person shooter and racing video game in development by id Software. It will use the company's new id Tech 5 engine. The game was first shown as a tech demo on June 11, 2007 at Apple's WWDC, and was officially announced on August 2, 2007 at QuakeCon. On the same day, a trailer for the game was released by Gametrailers.com.

     Information available so far indicates that the game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world similar to that of other popular videogames such as Fallout. In an interview with GameSpot, designer Tim Willits revealed that the game is set in the near future following the impact of 99942 Apophis. Matthew J. Costello, who worked on the plot of Doom 3, is also working on the Rage plot. Influences on the driving and racing gameplay include games such as MotorStorm and Burnout, according to another Willits interview by Shacknews. Players will be able to upgrade their cars with money won from races.

id Software is known for taking its time on making their games. With the exception of their free-to-play shooter Quake Live the Dallas-based developer hasn't released a game made on their own since Doom III way back in 2004 (although they have helped with the making of games like Quake IV, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and Wolfenstein that were primarily made at other developers). In 2007 id announced Rage, their first all-original game since the first Quake game in 1996. It's been a fairly slow development process for the post-apocalypse themed first person shooter since then; id only began to really give details on the game last August at QuakeCon.

Big Download got to see that live demo at QuakeCon last year but at E3 2010 last week the developer showed us some more live (but hands-off) gameplay at Bethesda Softworks' booth (running on an Xbox 360 dev kit but it's still coming out for the PC). Much of the demo was pretty similar to what we saw at QuakeCon but there were some new bits that were revealed.

Rage scores five Game Critics Awards nominations; New Vegas up for Best RPG

This morning the judges for the Game Critics Awards announced this year’s Best of E3 2010 nominations, and we’re excited to share that RAGE scored the most nominations with five. The game was nominated in the following categories:

• Best of Show
• Best Original Game
• Best Console Game
• Best PC Game
• Best Action Game

Additionally, Fallout: New Vegas, captured a nomination for Best Role Playing Game.

Winners of this year’s Game Critics Awards will be announced next Tuesday, July 6th.
