If I didn't know the history of Idoling's discography, I probably would have a better impression of this new single, I mean it's not a bad song, it's warm and gentle in its generic sort of way, but knowing what I know, I am very disappointed with it.I'm largely in agreement with all of this, though I don't feel its as life-or-death as you're making it out to be. Its just one single, its not like they've been following this same style for a couple years or anything. While I agree Don't Think, Feel and Mamore could've been much better and seem like sore thumbs in their discography, I thought One Up was a pretty good return to form and reminded me a lot of older stuff.
First thing that I didn't like was that it's a very ordinary sounding song with zero impact and no flavor, it almost sounds like a school choir song, very bland and forgettable. Granted, the song writer may have graduation in mind but what's the point in singing a very generic song as an idol group? Any student choir group can do that, an idol group has to make a distinction in some way and this new song doesn't. Honestly, this single is only good enough as a B-side song to me, or an album song.
Third thing is rather obvious, and that is Idoling has stopped being innovative and simply following the trend now. This generic song immediately reminded me of millions of generic songs AKB is infamous for. Not only that, even the naming of the song is mimicking the AKB style in using Japanese word with an English word, as in Iiwake Maybe, Oogoe Diamond, Namida Surprise etc., I mean it might not really matter that much in the whole scheme of things, but somehow as a fan I feel most devastated that Idoling has become what it is.
Overall, I may be overly critical towards the new single, and granted as a stand-alone product there's nothing wrong with it, but from a long-time fan's perspective, there's simply nothing that excites me about this particular single from any angle for lacking innovation, lacking character, lacking singing showcase, and lacking originality.
They are going to compete with YGA last single and PASSPO☆. :thumbsupYeah, YGA is one of the lowest tier of idols as far as sales go, so that won't be much of a contest, and they may also defeat Passpo, because their sales have declined lately and been much less than Idoling's recent releases (Passpo between 7k-10k when One Up! did 43k.) Unfortunately, some boring Johnny's artists will most likely win, just like you said (their last few releases were between 300k and 400k ) I guess it pays off to have legions of wealthy middle-aged housewives as your fans :(
But not for No.1 spot, because Kis-my-ft2 will rules it. :smhid
^ You mean judging by the screen time they had in the PV? :?
(Thinking to myself...) They wouldn't do a mass graduation, surely? :O
Idoling!!! would lose their spark if they graduate any of the remaining 1st gens imo! (>_<)
Lovin all that screen time Ruri is getting just in this little preview ver. It kinda makes up for the lack of it in Sakura Sankyu-! XDI think that's part of the idea, really. They wanted to focus the A-side on 2-5th gens and have this b-side just be a huge showcase of 1st, and I think its an awesome idea, since they're obviously not going to be there forever. :cow:
but even so the 1st gen is still featured a lot longer than Ojima :lol: Yes, and for this I'm thankful to the management XD

where did you saw the pv?It is up on a torrent tracker, but I just uploaded a copy that's easier to download. Be careful, though, the file is VERY compressed and requires a very specific codec to watch, so you might have some playback issues with certain media players. Its a TV rip from M-ON, where the video aired the other day.
I think Voice is the first Idoling song that got me repeating it 5 times or more in less than an hour. It hit me real good i think :twothumbs
It got a simple and addictive beat with that familiar Idoling sound but with a more mature approach. It just works :twothumbs
And that is one of the coolest PV they ever had. Though not amazing and it kinda screams "Gimme some more budget!" to it
But again it just works :twothumbs
Live performance of "voice".
