Li Bingbing on Vogue

Mainland actress Li Bingbing graced the cover of Vogue February issue, Taiwan. Li Bingbing won the Best actress title at the 46th Golden Horse Awards in Taipei 2009 for her performance in the spy thriller film 'The Message'.




In an accompanying interview with the magazine, the actress played down the excitement of winning over the prize.



"I believe in destiny. You get what you deserve and lose what's not yours. So I don't ask too much in life and won't be affected by things around me."




The actress recalled her thrill at the award-winning moment but revealed she was quite clear in mind, whether she won it or not, she was still herself.

Li Bingbing, who once called herself a "later bloomer", has been in the industry for over a decade but was not the highly influential figure that she is today until she took home the best actress title for 'Yun Shui Yao' or 'The Ballad of Cloud and Water' in 2008.

The actress is now using her present stardom to influence and give back more to society. She assumed the Green Ambassador of China Environmental Protection Foundation a couple of years ago and has done a great deal in promoting public awareness of environmental protection.

Li Bingbing is the cover girl of Vogue's April issue.



The noted Chinese actress is featured in a photo spread themed on environmental protection.
 
Li was recently voted the most popular actress of Asia 2009 in an online poll by the 4th Asian Film Awards for her role in espionage thriller The Message.



Her character, 'Li Lingyu', is a wartime decoder and a suspect who goes through severe emotional sufferings in the story.
 


Reportedly the actress had forced herself to take up drinking and smoking to better fit into the role.
 


As well as for her acclaimed performance, Li has won more plaudits for her cool green image in public endorsement. As the global ambassador of "Earth Hour", a campaign organized by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to raise awareness of taking action on climate change, Li has been fulfilling her duty by attending official meetings, shooting educational ads as well as other public activities on the theme.



The 4th Asian Film Awards opens on March 22 in Hong Kong. And the organizer will first give out the most popular actor/actress award. Let's wish Li good luck as she also has a best actress nominee for her role in "The Message".

First Look at "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan"

"Snow Flower and the Secret Fan," starring a powerful lineup of Australian actor, Hugh Jackman, Chinese actress, Li Bingbing and South Korean actress, Jeon Ji-Hyun has set a summer date for limited release in the U.S.A. on July 15, Mtime.com reports Friday, March 11.


The producers unveil one still showing protagonists Lily(Li Bingbing) and Snow Flower (Jeon Ji Hyun) in period costume holding each other's hands.

Chinese-American filmmaker, Wayne Wang, based this story on a same-titled book by novelist, Lisa See, in 2005. Set in 19th century China, the film depicts a lifetime friendship between two women who developed their own secret code as a way to communicate in a reclusive life under rigid cultural norms.

The report says this period piece may help director Wang make a statement of his Chinese identity in the Hollywood mainstream.

While Wang said in an interview that he feels like a handi-craft maker, who is replicating a past period.

The director pointed out what moves him most from the story is the strong ties binding the two women, which is rare in other films, kind of like a spiritual marriage.
