[Stage] Nogizaka46 1st Stage - 16nin no Principal + Voting Result
« on: September 02, 2012, 07:29:14 PM »
This isn't news actually, but rather something I been aware of for the past couple of days already. After thinking about it, I though it might deserve a thread of it own. Mod are free to delete it if it doesn't belong here.
Credits to caramujo from Stage48, as I borrowed heavily from from his/her thread.

Nogizaka46's first stage:
    「16nin no Principal」
                    乃木坂46 初回公演「16人のプリンシパル」

Location
Shibuya PARCO Theater, Tokyo. (458 seats)

Dates
Sep/01 (Sat)1st Show: 13:002nd Show: 17:00
Sep/03 (Mon) ~
Sep/07 (Fri)                        One show @: 18:00
Sep/09 (Sun)1st Show 13:002nd Show 17:00

Synopsis
The stage is set as a musical, where the story is about girls who came to audition through dance and self-promotion. During the first part of the stage, the members will perform dancing & singing, self-introduction & promotions. The musical to be performed after the first segment & voting (see below) is based on "Alice in Wonderland", with the top voted member getting the role of Alice, the role of the Queen for the runner-up, & so on.

Voting System (one of the concepts from their origin)
The voting system will happen during the interval of each theater show. After the voting, 16 members will participate in the 2nd half of it, with the positions and lines of the play decided by the number of votes. Voting is done via mobile phone by those attending the show (a card/QR code is given to them at the beginning, and it happens via this site {http://sp.nogizaka46.qw.to/maintenance.html}, only accessible via mobile). In addition, the audiences is given a piece of paper to take note of member's performance. Each card/code can vote for up to 16 members max, including one special vote for the best-performing member. There has been rumour that the special vote give a member 10 votes instead of one, but this cannot be independently confirmed by myself. It is encouraged that the audience vote base on performance, not preference.

30/33 members scheduled to perform on the 1st act of the show.
(Kashiwa Yukina and Iwase Yumiko absent, the former due to studies, the latter due to poor physical health)
(Nakamoto Himeka will be absent from the 09/05, 09/06, 09/07 and 09/09 shows.
Higuchi Hina, absent from the 09/01, 09/03 and 09/04 shows. Both due to school duties).

Some more stuffs I think I should add;
Here are some pics of the note & code given out for the stage.

Bigger:

Additionally, during the interview by media held after the rehearsal, Ikoma was asked whether she felt that rivalries will be developed among the members due to the voting system. After being unable to respond to the question for a few second, she suddenly ran away & didn't return. It was reported by people who were there that she was lively during the rehearsal for the media thou.

Here is some footage of the rehearsals + the above-mentioned incident:

Here are two pictures showing the voting result posted from the official blog, @ http://blog.nogizaka46.com/staff/2012/09/006905.php & http://blog.nogizaka46.com/staff/2012/09/006904.php

Second day results are out! Also released are the vote counts via the official blog:
http://blog.nogizaka46.com/staff/2012/09/006966.php

2nd Day (09/03 - 18:00) Voting Results
#1 - AliceIkuta Erika242 votes
#2 - QueenTakayama Kazumi236 votes
#3 - White RabbitHashimoto Nanami220 votes
#4 - Cheshire CarShiraishi Maii213 votes
#5 - Mad HatterMatsumura Sayuri202 votes

#12 - Trump Card 4Nakada Kana144 votes
#13 - Trump Card 5Eto Misa141 votes
#14 - Trump Card 6Ito Marika140 votes
#15 - Trump Card 7Kawamura Mahiro136 votes
#16 - Trump Card 8        Wakatsuki Yumi            131 votes

The votes were lower then I expected, & it is explained that fans were given only 8 minutes to vote. As a result, many didn't have enough time to fill out all 16 votes.  Some speculate that fans might even missed voting as they tried to vote in the tail end of the 8 minutes, but couldn't make it in time or was struck by confusion etc. Such a vote count also make the rumour that the top member gain 10 vote counts instead of one unlikely, thou not impossible.

The spread between all the members are quite tight actually, but I guess that is to be expected with only 458 people voting. Ikuta Erika continues as Alice, while Takayama Kazumi continues as Queen. This is attributed by many as primarily due to their superior performance & singing skill in the auditioning stage, since pure popularity-wise they are behind the top trio of Shiraishi Mai, Hashimoto Nanami, & Matsumura Sayuri. Imo, the system also benefit members who might not necessary have a lot of fans that sees them as kami-oshi, but have vast amount of fans that seem them as 2nd-oshi or 3rd-oshi & etc.

Screen time for the roles are described as: Alice > Queen >>>>> #3 ~ #8 > #9 ~ #16

One more thing...
I would really really appreciate it if someone can reply.  :nervous
If the hours of work I put up there can result in meaningful & enjoyable discussion, I will be really happy.
Right now, I feel like I am talking to myself however.  :mon POd:

What do you guys think of the voting system here? How does it compares to the senbatsu election system of the 48 family?Would you like to have it be implemented in 48 theatres? What do you think of the auditioning + musical format?
I have many thought on these, but I will kept those to myself to avoid excessive talking-to-self from happening.  :nervous

I find this brilliant. I love it.

I've been saying for a while that the only way to truly check the AKB girls' popularity is to let people vote for multiple girls during the election. For instance, each vote would be for your top 3 girls. Whoever you picked as #1 would get 3 points, #2 2 points, #3 1 point.

Thanks for reporting!!

Massive props  :thumbup

It took me a while to fully understand what the deal is here. The way it is implemented now sounds a bit too complicated, but I'm sure they'll work out the little details in time.

However! I do find the concept quite intriguing. The main benefit I see is that each girl will truly give it her 100%. No more auto-pilot for the established names either.

I can't see how this system could work in AKB48's theater shows, because they have a regular setlist. It's not like one unit has more prestige than the others. As for position on stage, I quite like how each girl gets some time on the front row so they all get a chance to present themselves anyway. The musical concept like N46 is doing suits itself really well for this kind of voting. It's also more challenging for the girls because they have to know all the parts, right? Btw, Beginner really stands out in that setlist, wonder how they incorporated that one.

^Thanks all for reply!  :)
@SomethingWild: with the current stage that the 48 families perform, it is indeed unlikely to implement this voting system in their theater. But what about implementing the whole musical concept in it? The stage song will still be performed, but during the interlope of the musical. Maybe that will work, but that is just an idea I have, & it might be a bad one.  :nervous

Also, they do indeed have to memorize all 16 roles for the musical! That is certainly a challenge that I am glad they are excelling at. Beginner is performed during the showdown of Alice vs. Queen I heard, which is really really cool. :twothumbs

Also... roles change at the top! Kazumi is the new Alice! While Ikuchan take on the role of the Queen!

Tie breaker are decided by which member have more "leading actress" vote, the special vote that each audience will have among the other 15.

Kinda weird seeing Kazumi in the role of Alice to be frank.  :nervous I am really happy for, but she don't look like a Alice.  Ikuchan being Queen is kinda funny too.

While popularity still plays an important part in the votes, as proved by the top members being roughly the most popular ones, performance is really making a difference. This can be seen from how top member Shiraishi Mai having yet to break above third rank yet, Matsumura Sayuri of the top trip being relegated to the role of trump card, & how Kawamura Mahiro who is not popular at all but extremely talented (Sumire Anna type...?) barely making into top 16!

Center Ikoma Rina captured eight place with the same amount of votes as late time!  :O2 There have been a lot of talk about Ikoma to be dethroned after all these stages by fans. Ikoma have been a controversial choice as center, as she have consistently been shown to be less popular the top trio of Mai, Nanami, & Sayuri, & maybe even less popular than member like Ikuchan, Nanase, & Kazumi depending on what numbers is used (usually mixi ranking, comment ranking, & most importantly, handshake result.) Ikoma is also not really strong mentally unfortunately. She frequently break into tears in trivial circumstances, like when unable to answer a quiz question correctly during a quiz show. Albeit personally, I do wish her to do well & is happy to see her improve over the course of a year, I do think a change of ace will not only be good for Nogizaka as a whole, but for her as well. She wouldn't have run away from the questioning have it not been for the aforementioned circumstances, so she is facing tremendous pressure. Ikuchan will make an exceptional center too, as she is incredibly talented. She not only play piano. She represented Tokyo, TOKYO of all Places, in National Competition! Apologies, I digressed. :nervous  I will speak more about her talent some other day, in her thread probably.

Source: http://blog.nogizaka46.com/staff/2012/09/007007.php

Hoshino is in 17th place! Why did they decide to release the 17th ranking member this time around & not the last you may ask? Well, readers (if there is any :nervous) They released the 17th place for the last two performance too. Sadly, I just didn't noticed because they aren't Hoshino Minami.
The total votes for the top 16 has increased, from 2877 votes for the last time around, to 3035 votes this time. The voting continues to be very tight too, with merely 4 votes separatig first place Ikuchan from third place Kazumi.

Also, on the setlist itself, quoting from caramujo from Stage48:
Quote
Apparently, they sing an arranged version of "Tsubomitachi" (Team 4 + KKS) right before the second "Nogizaka no Uta" (1st Act).
And today and yesterday, they actually sang Aitakatta Kamoshirenai instead of Guruguru Curtain, during the encore.

In other news, ever heard of the movie, Hunger Games? Well readers, Ikuchan have won an audition among Nogizaka members to voice the role of Rue!  :twothumbs
Based on the Oricon article, not only did Ikuchan won the audition, the judge described her as "well above" the competition! Mata mata Erika Sama.
Damn. YKT beat me to the news. I blame school.
I am very happy for Ikuchan, as recently she  been on a roll, capturing the role of Alice all but once in addition to winning this audition. Most importantly, these momentum she captures by her own strength, not as a result of management pushing! Apologies again, I digress once more. :ph43r:

Speaking of Asuka, there seems to be some sort of inverse relationship between her & Yuri (both Saitos.) After the first day, whenever Asuka ranked, Yuri don`t, & vice versa. Also, while there`s a gap opening up in the top four rank, 8th to 13th rank is super close today. Total vote have increased once more, albeit by a smaller amount from 3035 votes to 3066 votes.

Kazumi took the role of Alice once more after falling the 4th just yesterday! Ikuchan & Maiyan with the exactly same amount of votes & leading 4th place Ikoma by a mere 2 votes! Ikoma surged to her highest-ever ranking as of yet & beating Nanami for 4th place be a mere 1 vote!

Also, I was just taking about inverse voting between the two Saitos yesterday, & here they are, Asuka & Yuri, side by side, destroying my theory.
Not that I mind thou. :)

Ikoma's surge might have something to do with yesterday's incident. Wish there's a spoiler option with now...  :nervous

According to some fans who been to yesterday's performance, Ikoma, I think it was after the voting, was commenting on her result. First talk about how her ranking was rising each day, & then she tilted her head down, & was weeping a bit. The audience asked her to look up (toward the audience), to which she replied she is always looking forward (carrying a forward looking meaning to it too), & exclaimed that she wanted to be Alice. After that she said that her leg feel weak & she sort of fainted, with staffs & other members asking her if she's well & carrying her to the back.
It might be the pressure of not being as high as she should be despite being centre getting to her (sort of like Jo I guess). But some fans also said they felt that this was more deliberate then spontaneous, & believe it an effort to get 'sympathy votes,' & this they frown upon.

Personally, I am not going say if it is spontaneous or deliberate, as I wasn't there & any guess will be just that. I do wish that sympathy voting can be reduced to a minimum thou, as this whole voting mechanism give less popular members a rare opportunity to shine by skill & merit, & with popularity already playing such a large role in determining ranking already, I rather not have any more other factors influencing it.

I am still happy to have this voting happening thou, back members are showing up here & there, & changes in ranking occur daily. The next performance will be on Sunday, so you guys won't be seeing me talking to myself for a while.

Ikuta continues to reign supreme, taking the the role of Alice twice during the last day! Ikoma made great stride in the first show, taking third, only to falter to seventh place in the second! Maiyan took a beating in the second stage, falling to sixth, while Nanami surged to second place, taking the role of the Queen in the second stage! Many members who was unable to rank before today, ranked at the last performance, including Hoshino.

With that, Nogizaka's first stage has ended! Despite all incidents, I believe the stage performance have been a success, & having continuous performances can certainly raise the profile of Nogizaka46. While the election was certainly not completely performance-based, with popularity & sympathy voting playing a role, I think the system is generally a good one, with minor flaws here & there. While the stage must have been an emotional roller-coaster for many (if not all) members, I do believe & hoped that the members have grown from this experience, & can stand to deliver greater performance in the future.

There is only one question left in my mind, that is, will these results play any role in the determination of the senbatsu for the next single?
