Hi Guys,

Would anyone know who sang the title song of the Tora-San movies? I'd love to listen to that song!

Thanks,

Kolya

First of all I would like to thank you all guys for this amazing music thread, I started studying japanese a few motnhs ago and this stuff is really helpful since I know nothing about japanese music, so I registered just to thank you. One last thing, this probably would sound bad, but someone recommended me the album Golden Hits or something by Fuji Keiko, I already have Meiko Kaji's one and it's amazing, so if there's anybody who knows where can I download it, please let me know.
Thank you and greetings.

Thank you very much for this stuff, guys.  All downloaded :-)

This is mainly to the gentlemen who uploaded the old tracks -- would you mind if I made torrents out of these?  It'd be nice to make them available to others.  If you have any idea what the copyright on them is, that'd also help, but I wouldn't want to do it without your permission.

Also, is there any tiny chance you might have the missing tracks from especially the older albums available somewhere in VBR?

Thanks again!

Hi.
The singer is Kiyoshi Atsumi who acts Tora-San.The title of this song is ''Otoko ha tsurai yo / A man is painful''.It's same as the title of the movie.

Torrent them where you like as long as you give credit.

If anything I uploaded had a missing track that's how it came to me and that's all I have.

A few thoughts on Saijo Hideki, a famous J-pop singer from the seventies and eighties.

I honestly don't know why he embarasses people nowadays...

A collection of TV & Radio themes from the 50's - 70's.
This is where I first heard Suizenji Kiyoko (Arigatou no Uta, Disc 2, track 14) and then played it on repeat for an hour because I liked it so much.

Sorry just noticed this bit just now.

I'm with you.  I'm actually old enough to remember the TV show, mostly light-hearted drama where Suizenji is married to Ishizaka Koji and all the crap they go through in life.

I recall multiple scenarios of the show: one took place in a diner and the other in a hospital (Suizenji was a nurse and Ishizaka was a doctor).  Both shows had the same, awesome theme song.

I just downloaded some of the files and I would have to say old music beats the newest ones. Nothing like it.

I'm just 23 mind you and from the Philippines. The first song I've heard was Akira Kobayashi's Guitar wo Motta Wataridori and fell in love with some of the songs. These days, music are widely diversed, but they're not in par with the music before. Infectious.

Hello all.

Thank you ~Dan~ for this awesome thread. It's like a wish coming true.

I recently begin to listen Japanese oldies, though I always have a tendency to listen old songs. I'm a fan of Wada Akiko especially. When I check my archive I found something that I like to share with you all.

First, Yumi Matsutoya (well, Yumi Arui when she wrote that songs). She has a beatiful voice, and I believe she is still big in japan.

Yumi Matsutoya Early Hits (1972-1978)

My personal favorite is 雨の街を (Ame no machi wo). This song is really powerfull. (By the way there is no such album I just chose my favorite songs in a Yuming compilation)

Minagawa Osamu- Kuroneko no Tango  This song is so cute ^^. Song is from 1969 and the singer is only six years old. (Then I heard there is also an italian version of this)

Bonus:

Japanese Army Music well, I know, even though they're old, that doesn't make them oldies, but I really enjoy listening those marching songs when I'm walking to home. (I don't want to start a historical debate and I'm familiar with the historical events of first and second world war, yet I believe every incident should be  evaluated considering their time)

I apologize if my post is somewhat off topic, and my poor English, since I'm not a native speaker.

Thank you all for once again.
(when I visit to Japan one more time I'll be sure to grab Wada Akiko albums this time)

(edit/There is a lovely enka compilation in this site, you can check it out.

edit 2/ I don't want to do double post, those are from Kyu Sakamato's Memorial Box. My favorite is strangely "sayonara Namida-kun" ^^'. There are lovely songs though...

Songs from the Meiji Era

Singles (1959-1963)

My first post on this website is a gratitude to Dan for posting all this great Enka.

I am a music lover of all sorts but specializing in Jamaican music of the past.

b.t.w. If anybody knows where I can get a specific collection of songs, either downloading or buying, then I will be thankful.
It's about Eri Chiemi - Japanese Folk Songs, this is it's cover: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_9exXZZOTgag/RvUHUnzLeaI/AAAAAAAAAj4/9ZB1WZf2eUk/s400/Chiemi.jpg

Now I am off to stroll through the rest of this website.

In searching for it I probably found the same dead links as you did.  Here it is, but I had to get the audio from youtube.  It sounds ok except for track 3 which sounds like the person who uploaded it only had it as a low quality file to begin with.

Hi everyone, I recently listening this like haunted. I did some search and found that singer is Karmen Maki "カルメン・マキ" and the song name is toki ni wa haha ni nai ko no yooni "時には母のない子のように" from 1969. But I can't find anything else from this singer. Does anyone know where to find her albums?

p.s. by the way whenever I post something it seems to be it's from late 60's and early 70's (which is my favorite era), I hope you don't find it out of subject since the title of the thread is Oldskool Japanese Music Thread (1920's-1960's).
