MOSCOW – A shower of falling objects, tentatively identified as fragments of a meteorite, was reported in Siberia early on Friday, shattering windows and damaging buildings across a vast swath of territory. Russian Meteor Shower 2013 [COMPILATION] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qb7PrBPJc6s#ws)

Intense as fuck! They showed more clips on the news. The explosion was LOUD.

What worries me is that 1. either nobody saw it coming or 2. they knew and chose to not warn people.
Both are pretty scary scenarios, especially with that other huge one passing Earth tonight!  :panic:

All I could think of was this:
Lavos arriving on Earth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BRowQabjrE#)

What worries me is that 1. either nobody saw it coming or 2. they knew and chose to not warn people.

According to Neil deGrasse Tyson, this meteorite was too small to be detected ahead of time...and if it was big enough to be anticipated, we'd be screwed.

Still pretty damn amazing, this whole thing. Just watching this bright object streak across the sky at that speed...

I experienced something similar while vacationing with a friend in northern Wisconsin. The crack, the light. It is an incredible sight, if you are not in its path. As nopted by scientists, these things happen, often without notice.
