Hello everyone~ I'm new here, and I was sucked into the world of AKB48 very quickly by my Sensei (and friend), who is known as arisa03 on here. I told myself that I wouldn't write fanfiction about them... but... it's kind of too late for that. XD

I hope you enjoy this oneshot~

Also, the characters might be slightly OOC, seeing as I am new to all this. Please excuse any mistakes. Thank you~

Special thanks to Divine Vengeance for PRing. You rock!

My Everything

“Ah! Be more gentle!” a voice cried, sounding distinctly different from the usual tone it held.

“Sorry, sorry!” a slightly deeper voice apologized.

There was a clatter and screech of a chair sliding back across the floor, then the clack of footsteps on the cold tiles.

“Ahh… this looks like the right size…” the deeper voice murmured. The sound of footsteps repeated before the screech of the chair could be heard again.

“What are you- AH!” the higher and more feminine voice squeaked. There was a huge thump and a harsh smacking sound as something was knocked over.

“Nezumi! Are you okay?”

There was a brief silence.

“Center… No more. I can’t take any more.”

A sigh filled the air.

“I’m sorry, but this is for your own good.”

Suddenly, the door to the classroom burst open, revealing five figures clad in green jumpsuits. Their leader, donning a fierce expression, led the scramble into the room.

“Oi! When a lady says no, she means no!” Wota commanded, pointing dramatically at the girl wearing a brown cardigan.

Bungee also followed up with her own statement. “Center! I thought you were better than this-”

“What,” the girl, Center, scowled, “are you talking about?”

Blinking rapidly, Team Hormone took in the scene before them. Center was dabbing a nasty gash on Nezumi’s arm, holding a cotton ball in one hand and a roll of gauze in the other. The hooded girl’s injured right arm lay limply across Center’s lap as the girl tended to the wound.

“Oh…” the five of them said.

Center’s scowl, if it was even possible, deepened. “Exactly what did you think we were doing?”

“Nothing! Absolutely nothing!” Wota hurriedly told her.

Shaking her head side to side in exasperation, Unagi pushed her way to the front of the group. “What happened?” she asked.

Center opened her mouth to answer, but Nezumi quickly cut her off. “It seems that the girls from Yabakune can hold quite a grudge.”

All five heads of Team Hormone nodded up and down. “I see,” they said in unison.

An awkward silence filled the room as Center continued to dutifully clean the wound. After a couple seconds, Akicha nudged Wota and gestured towards the door. Wota caught on immediately.

“Umm, we’ll just leave you two alone then…” the leader stated, kicking the rest of Team Hormone to the door.

“Together~” Unagi added.

“Alone!” Mukuchi emphasized.

“Alright, that’s enough you two.” With a final kick, the door slammed shut behind their green outfits.

Setting the bloody cotton ball on a nearby desk, Center grabbed a few strips of soft cotton and placed them along the five-inch cut across Nezumi’s forearm. Carefully keeping the cotton in place, she started to wrap the gauze around

A tense silence enveloped the two as the taller girl continued her work. After securing the wrap with a safety pin, Center gently removed the arm off her lap.

The hooded girl breathed in deeply and looked away from her friend. Eyes guarded by the pink hood, Nezumi tentatively spoke. “Center… if you’re angry, you can just say so.”

Center blinked in surprise. “A-angry?”

“Don’t toy with me.”

“B-but-”

“I went ahead and stubbornly took that route home, even though you told me not to…”

Nezumi’s form was shaking.

“And you ended up needing to save me again.”

A pair of warm arms circled firmly around the hooded girl’s body as Center captured Nezumi in a tight and protective hug. Placing her mouth right next to Nezumi’s ear, Center gently spoke.

“I saved you yesterday. I also saved you many days before that, and another time before as well. I’ll do it as many times as I need to, even if it costs me my own life.”

In another time, Nezumi would have pushed, kicked, and shoved her way out of this hug. Instead, she returned the embrace, buried her head in Center’s shoulder, and even leaned in closer, taking in the trust and strength this girl gave her.

They remained like this for a little while, with Nezumi slowly dozing off in between Center’s warmth and her soothing scent. No one else came to interrupt them (perhaps Team Hormone had actually done something useful and told people to stay away?) and neither of them were willing to move. Both were comfortable.

“I love you.”

Nezumi blinked, completely stunned. Even though she had heard the words before, this time…

Something was different.

Something… wet?

Nezumi pulled slightly away, not enough to leave the hug, but enough to look up at her friend’s face. Tears were streaming out of Center’s chocolate colored eyes, showing a weakness that was never usually there.

Gripping the brown cardigan tightly in her hands, Nezumi stared in confusion. “Center?”

Her friend smiled bitterly and tried to detach herself from Nezumi’s touch. “I’m sorry.”

Nezumi refused to let go. “Center, don’t you dare leave me now. Not after all you’ve just said.”

“Then,” Center murmured, bending down and leaning in close, “would you let me leave if I did this?”

For a second, Nezumi couldn’t comprehend what was going on. Then suddenly a pair of soft lips was on her own.

Eh?
What?
Huh?

For the first time in her life, Nezumi could not form a coherent thought. In all the years of her young life, she had never had her mind completely blank. There was always something to plan, something to do, something to think about.

She was stunned.

But just as quickly as it had come, Center pulled away. The tears, if possible, seemed to have increased tenfold after the kiss, pouring steadily down Center’s cheeks.

“Center…” Nezumi breathed out, still astonished at what had just happened. The girl flinched as her name was spoken.

“It’s disgusting, right? My love for you,” Center spat out, clenching her hands together into fists.

Nezumi pressed herself against Center, despite the girl’s resistance, and shook her head.

“No.”

Brown eyes widened.

“It’s…”

Nezumi scrunched her eyebrows together, trying to find an appropriate word to describe the feeling she felt at that moment. However, the clever mouse was stumped.

Growling in frustration, Nezumi grabbed the back of Center’s neck and pulled her down for round two.

Everything became clear for her. Why Center had done so much and cared so much for her, for some spoiled brat thrust into a school for yankees, now made sense.

A newfound feeling welled up inside of her as she continued to kiss Center, causing her head to spin and her heart to beat rapidly. She felt as if she could take on all of Yabakune as long as Center was by her side, because anything was possible then. Center…

Center was her everything.

“I love you.”

This time it was Nezumi’s voice who spoke those words.

Cupping Center’s cheeks with her hands, she wiped the tears away with her thumbs while gazing resolutely at those eyes that now held surprise and disbelief. Then, gradually, a goofy grin spread across Center’s face, and her eyes shone with complete and utter happiness.

“R-really?”

Swept along by her emotions, Nezumi found herself smiling a true smile for the first time in years. Seeing this, Center became stunned once again.

“Really.”

Bending down, Center placed her forehead over Nezumi’s and gently held the hands on her cheeks.

“Wow… you should smile more often,” Center breathed out. “You’re so beautiful…”

Nezumi turned bright red.

“H-hey!” she stuttered, trying to control the blood rushing to her face.

“Ehehe~”

“Don’t ‘ehehe’ me!”

Center grinned and stood up, keeping one of Nezumi’s hands in her grip. She pulled the smaller girl up and kissed her cheek.

“Come on. Let’s go see the view from the top. Together.”

Nezumi nodded, still blushing at the new meaning of that word.

“Together.”

Title: Re: Vanui's works (Two Roses Chapter 1, WMatsui 9/4)
Post by: Vanui on September 05, 2011, 04:43:26 AM
Good evening/morning everyone! Here's my first multi-chaptered fic, centering around Jurina and Rena in (you know it!) some WMatsui! Enjoy~

Special thanks to Nishizono for her awesome editing skills.

Two Roses Chapter 1

The first time Matsui Jurina read the lyrics to her new song with Matsui Rena, TWO ROSES, she remembered her heart stopping while she choked on green vegetable juice. The drink dripped down her chin and all over her shirt as she thumped her chest and coughed loudly, tears slightly coming out of her eyes.

“The moments our eyes met, an invisible hand stretched itself and something important was stolen...” she hoarsely recited, wiping her cheeks off with a napkin and walking up the stairs to go look for a clean shirt.

As she rounded a corner, she came face to face with her mother and abruptly stopped to avoid colliding with the older woman. Her mother raised an eyebrow at her daughter’s disheveled appearance.

“What happened to you? Your face is all red and there’s juice all over you,” her mother asked, concerned.

Jurina sheepishly rubbed the back of her neck and forced a grin. “Ehehe, the juice just went down the wrong pipe, that’s all. No need to worry, Mom.”

“Uh huh,” her mother responded, sensing there was more to it than what her daughter was letting on.

Not caving in to her mother’s skeptical response, Jurina brushed past her mother and stated, “I’m going to go change,” and quickly ran into her room.

---

“At the beginning, I didn't notice the feeling of air going through my chest, as if a hole had been opened, I drowned. That sort of pain, I didn't know it to be love, so, at the sudden loneliness, I trembled,” Jurina read, now safely locked up in the security of her room without a drink in hand.

It was a good thing she hadn’t looked at the lyrics right away when she received them, otherwise everyone would have seen her face go red-hot as she did so.

“It’s like they made these lyrics this way on purpose,” she groaned, slamming her head down on the desk.

She closed her eyes and drank in the cool feel of the desk on her forehead. “If you’re a rose, while you decorate that vase, I'm fine with just gazing at you forever without ever touching you,” she quietly whispered, remembering the chorus.

Unconsciously, she rubbed at her eyes and discovered that tears were pouring down her cheeks.  She blinked once or twice before bitterly smiling at the situation.

“Whatever kindness seemed so fleeting, these tears that pour forth, I won't wipe them,” she laughed glancing down at the innocent looking lyrics sheet.

Her eyes caught the photo sitting on the corner of her desk, containing the frozen image of a group of laughing and smiling girls.

Her eyes focused on one.

“Rena...”

---

The first time she needed to actually record the song, people were asking her if she was alright. Jurina had no idea why everyone thought she wasn’t, but as soon as she looked at herself in the mirror, she realized she was deathly pale with bags under her eyes. She tried smiling in the mirror to liven her image up, but that only made her look worse. The smile was forced and fake.

Suddenly, the door to the bathroom clicked open and a surprised shout filled the room.

“There you are! We’ve been looking all over for you,” Yuko said, dragging a flustered Haruna behind her.

Jurina turned around and set her confused gaze upon the two AKB48 members. “What are you two doing here?” she asked, hoping to direct the attention away from herself.

“We were actually sent by Akimoto-san himself to go find you.”

“Eh? Akimoto-san himself? Did something happen? Am I late to the recording? Or is someth-”

Haruna put her hand up in a stopping motion. Jurina shut her mouth.

“Jurina-chan, I don’t know if you know this, but everyone is worried about you. You’ve been distant and looking sickly this past week, and no one knows what’s wrong,” Haruna explained, casting a worried look at the young girl.

“Yeah, Juri-chan. Is there something we can do to help you?” Yuko questioned. “We’re all family here. We can help you, Juri-chan. All you have to do is let us.”

Jurina stared at her two sempai and cracked a grateful smile. “Thank you. But it’s alright. Nothing’s wrong.”

The two exchanged a look and then sighed. “Fine. Jurina, just know that we’re here for you, okay?” Haruna conceded.

Yuko latched herself onto the young girl and hugged her. “You know where to find us,” Yuko added.

“Thank you.”

As Jurina spoke, she found herself crying again. Except this time, her tears were on borne from overwhelming thanks to the two sempai in front of her.

“Thank you very much...”

---

She really shouldn’t be doing this. This was terrible for her mental sanity and her heart.

Yet she continued on anyways.

“Rena-chan...” she muttered, walking down a crowded sidewalk and blending in with the crowd.

She really shouldn’t be stalking Matsui Rena.

She followed the thin but beautiful idol down the street filled with shops and people, knowing that Rena was only going to meet with one of the other SKE48 members to go shopping.

Jurina also knew that her behavior was uncalled for, but she had resigned herself to loving Rena from afar and could not resist the temptation of gazing upon the girl.

Sure, she might have fooled around with Rena here and there, but that was for publicity only. If she ever confessed her love, not only would she be definitely rejected because Rena did not swing her way, but even if she accepted, they couldn’t be together anyways. Akimoto’s law was absolute.

Why was this hitting her so hard now? She had kept it in just fine before. It was those lyrics. Definitely those lyrics. Someone in the music-writing department probably hated her.

“Ah!”

A scream of terror interrupted her thoughts.

Blinking rapidly in surprise, Jurina saw a man dressed in black shove Rena into the street as he grabbed her purse and ran to the other side of the busy road. That was not the biggest problem though.

To her horror, a truck was heading towards Rena, and due to its weight, it could not stop in time to avoid hitting the startled girl.

“NO!”

Sprinting as fast as her athletic legs could take her, she shoved Rena out of the way just as the truck honked and the blinding headlights enveloped her.

Her world exploded in a flash of white.

---

At that moment, a boy gasped and sat up in a hospital bed, escaping the coma he was in.

Where... am I?

A/N: And that's all for chapter one, folks. Hope you enjoyed. Next chapter is already written, and shall be posted soon.

One word: Bittersweet.
But if Jurina's dead, how about the recording?
And Rena? How's her reaction after being saved by Jurina and then found out that her saviour is.. maybe dead or coma?
And that boy.. Is Jurina in his body and has amnesia?
Please continue. My curiosity won't be answered if I'm just wondering. :glasses:

Two Roses Chapter 2

Where... am I?

He moved to rub the sleep out of his eyes only to find many IV needles sticking out of the back of his hand and his arms. Weird.

Now more aware, he realized that he had a breathing mask on connected to multiple machines nearby with many tubes. Not only that, but there were multiple bandages around his head...

Wait a-

Oh my god.

He patted down his chest.

He did it again.

Then he shifted his legs around and felt something there that was never there before.

Calm down, Jurina, he thought. So you’re a guy now. No big deal. Look around to see if there are any clues as to how you ended up this way.

Observing his surroundings, he found them to be a dimly lit hospital room with a lot of heavy equipment. However, on his bedside table, something caught his eye.

There, sitting innocently, was the brightest piece of paper he had ever laid his eyes on.

He picked it up and looked at the elegant handwriting scrawled across the page.

This is your second chance. Don’t be afraid to attain happiness.

He placed it back down on the table and breathed in deeply, hearing the tubes echo a sucking noise.

...What was going on? Second chance? What did any of this mean?

---

“Doctor! Doctor, he’s awake!” someone shouted, startling Jurina out of his half-sleep.

Suddenly, lights were turned on and he winced at the brightness. Hurried footsteps filled the air as someone burst into the room, and a graying-haired man who looked to be about forty or fifty came into his field of view.

He tinkered with the equipment and made a lot of scribbles on his clipboard as Jurina stared up at him. Finally satisfied, he removed the mask from Jurina’s face and turned the machine off.

“How are you feeling, son?” he asked, voice very deep yet gentle.

Jurina tried to reply only to find that he could not speak. The best that came out of his mouth was a raspy noise that sounded like a dying ghoul.

“Oh! Sorry. You, can you get some water please?” the doctor pointed at a nurse. She nodded and left the room.

“Now, I’m going to ask you a couple questions. Can you make thumbs up and down at me?”

He did so.

“Alright, good. Seems the nerves to your arms weren’t damaged. Can you shift your legs around a bit?”

He did so.

“Excellent! No damage there either. That’s a big relief. Okay, can you move your neck a bit?”

He did so.

“No neck damage. Wow...”

The door clicked open and the nurse came in with a cup of water. She helped Jurina sit up and placed the cup to his lips. He drank greedily at the liquid, eventually choking since he downed it so fast.

“Woah, slow down! There’s more where this came from, trust me.”

“S... Sor... ry...” he hoarsely apologized. He hadn’t known he was so thirsty until the water went down his throat the first time.

“So you can speak. Very good. Can you sit up a bit more so we can check your head wound?”

“Y... es.”

Very carefully, the doctor unwrapped the layers of bandages atop of Jurina’s head. Once he was done, he let out a gasp of surprise.

“Oh dear god...”

Jurina started sweating bullets. What was wrong now?

“It’s like... the wound was never there in the first place...” the doctor spoke with awe in his voice.

Wound?

“W... Wound, sir?” Jurina asked, blinking up at the man.

He looked down at the patient.

“Oh dear, oh dear... Tell me son, what do you remember?”

Jurina just stared blankly at him. Should he tell the doctor that all he remembered was being Jurina Matsui, center of SKE48, and now he was some random guy in a hospital being fussed over? No, he didn’t want to be sent to the asylum.

“Nothing, sir.”

“Name? Family? Hometown?”

Jurina slowly shook his head. “Could you... tell me please? Maybe it’ll help me remember.”

He hesitated. “Your name is Jun... and your family consisted of a mother and father. Your hometown is Aichi.”

Well, his name hadn’t changed much, and his hometown was still the same. Was this some kind of sick coincidence? Was Jurina Matsui never even real? Wait...

“Family ‘consisted’? Past tense?” he asked, eyes going wide.

The doctor looked down sadly and patted the boy’s shoulder. “Son... in that same accident that gave you this amnesia... your parents were immediately killed. There was nothing we could do to save them.”

Jurina, err... Jun knew he should have been sad, but it was hard to feel mournful for people he had never met. Thankfully, he remembered his acting skills and used them to the best of his abilities.

“I see... Could you leave me alone for a moment?” Jun asked, fake tears welling up in his eyes. The doctor nodded.

“Click the nurse-call button when you’re comfortable. I’ll be waiting to finish your check-up, and depending on how it goes, we could get you out of here immediately.” With that, the doctor left the room.

Silence dominated the room.

“Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my g-” he choked on his own spit.

Okay. What did Jurina- Jun like to do when he was trying to go brain dead and not think about anything?

He picked up the remote next to the bright piece of paper and turned the TV on.

“This just in! We have news of Matsui Jurina, member of the idol group SKE48, being hit by a truck in the shopping district of the city. According to reports, it seems that the idol was saving a fellow SKE48 member, Matsui Rena, from being hit by the truck, and in the process, got hit by the truck herself. The death was instantaneous, with no-”

Jun dropped the remote and heard it hit the floor, but he paid it no mind.

Okay. So Jurina was real. And now Jurina was dead. Jurina is now Jun. Jun is now very, very confused and wants to stop thinking right now.

“Oh my god... what is going on in my life?!”

A/N: Hope you enjoyed folks. Chapter 3 should be up soon. Also, special acknowledgement to blughise for Jurina's guy name: Jun. Also check out blughise's story "I Finally Found You". Great work there~

Hm. Two of my questions answered.
So, Jurina is dead. Her spirit flew into this boy named Jun who is most likely in a nearby hospital from the accident.
Jun has an amnesia because he's not Jun, but Jurina.
News has been spread.
I'm waiting for Rena's side.

Haruko: All things will be answered in due time... wait patiently please! ;D
arisa03: I do hope you read it! XD But yeah, Gender Bender! I've always wanted to try one LOL
BlackRockAnon: Gender Bender indeed! I don't really consider Jurina dead, not even physically. Because you'll see why later on. ;D
saeseki: Update is here~
kahem: Yup, yup~ Nice to see you're enjoying things so far!
caghaunt: It's actually not amnesia. She remembers everything! I'm sorry if I came across that way. But yeah, no amnesia.
Kiri-el: Sequel? If you mean the next chapter, it's here~
RenaChii: Now you'll see how Rena's doing...
HashirePomeranian: Thank you very much! I hope by the end of this story, you'll be converted into a WMatsui lover. XD I know that I originally wasn't an Atsumina or Mayuki fan before I read a lot of the fics on here.
Nyanoha: Hey! I love my angst. Angst defines my life, Mama~ Third chapter just for youuuuu~

Thanks to everyone who read, left a thank you, and/or commented!

Without further ado, I present Chapter 3. Finally, some WMatsui moments LOL

Two Roses Chapter 3

“Alright, Jun-kun. Your official documents and release papers are here,” the doctor said, handing a paper bag to the boy who was lounging idly on his bed. Jun took it and gratefully smiled.

“Thank you very much, doctor. I owe you a lot,” he replied, rising up out of the bed.

The doctor smiled in return. “It’s just my job. Oh, and there’s also a change of street clothes in the bag. Don’t worry about the money. Let’s just say it was factored into the hospital bill. Now go on and take a shower, son. You smell.”

Jun broke out into a wide grin and bowed down. “I’ll never forget your kindness, doctor. Thank you very, very much.”

The man cleared his throat, clearly embarrassed by the amount of thanks he had just recieved. He turned around and headed out the door. Over his shoulder, he called, “You are free to leave once you shower and change, Jun-kun. There are papers in the bag telling you where you are going and where you are staying according to your parent’s will.”

“Okay!”

The door clicked shut.

Letting the grin slip off his face, Jun sighed wearily and reached into the bag, pulling out the stack of papers inside. He shuffled past the release documents and looked at his profile information. There was a lot the doctor didn’t tell him during the past day, and he was determined to find out more.

“Matsui Jun... eh? This is too weird to be a coincidence...” he muttered. He looked past the name and at his birthday. “Birthday’s the same... except 4 years earlier? I’m 18? Wow. Explains why they’re just letting me go to wherever I need to be on my own and without an escort. Now where am I going?”

He shuffled through the papers and stopped when he found what he was looking for.

“I’m staying with... Kojima Haruna?” he exclaimed, squinting at the text. “No way. This can’t be the same Haruna...”

He leafed through the papers and found a picture of her. “This... there’s no mistaking it. Kojima Haruna is my cousin...”

He sighed again and buried his face in his hands. “My hands are too big...” he groaned, voice muffled.

Indeed. Everything felt awkward and off. When he had gone to the bathroom last night, it was... quite the experience, to say the least.

He had also spent most of the night agonizing over his situation and trying to figure out how he had ended up this way. Jun refused to believe that his life as Matsui Jurina was all a lie or that it was all a hallucination.

And that darned piece of bright paper.

He turned to his bedside table and picked it up.

This is your second chance. Don’t be afraid to attain happiness.

It couldn’t mean what he thought it meant, right? The meaning seemed really obvious, but he didn’t want to jump to conclusions. At least he had the first part figured out: this body of his was the second chance the note was talking about.

But how had this happened? There was no logical explanation. Unless a god had somehow deemed Jurina not ready to die yet and given her a second chance as a man, this was all absurd.

Right?

Jun groaned and slapped himself on the cheeks. “Enough thinking. I’m just going to shower,” he muttered to himself. Reaching inside the paper bag, he pulled out a nice pair of blue jeans, a classy black belt, a black polo shirt, a pair of white socks, and a pair of plaid boxers. Besides that, he felt something hard at the bottom of the bag. It turned out to be a shoebox with nice white sneakers inside.

He whistled. “Dang, this all must’ve been at least 200 dollars. That doctor is too nice of a guy. Though he must think I need to look well-dressed for my new relative...”

With that, he went to shower. Jun tried not to think about the awkwardness involved with showering in a man’s body.

---

“That... will take some getting used to...” Jun grimaced as he toweled his hair dry. Already dressed in his clothes, he quickly dried his short hair and glanced n the mirror.

“Looking fine,” he joked. While laughing at himself, he noticed that his face was still similar to Jurina’s. In fact, if he wasn’t mistaken, he kind of looked like Jurina when she had dressed as a male for a picture, though he was still slightly more masculine.

Shaking his head, he went over to put his nice new sneakers on. Once that was settled, he picked up the bright note, folded it, and then placed it into his pants pocket.

“There. Anything else?” he asked himself, looking over the room. “Nothing. Thought so.”

Grabbing the paper bag, he left the hospital room.

---

For some reason, the train station seemed to be overwhelming for Jun, and he hurriedly went back outside into the warm weather. As the door shut behind him, he took a deep breath in and steadied his head.

It must’ve been the after-effects of staying in the hospital, connected to those machines.

Feeling weak, he realized his stomach was roaring at him and telling him to go get something to eat. He patted it.

“Alright, alright. Let’s go get you filled.”

So Jun wandered around the streets, looking for a place that caught his fancy. He had some money in his pocket (no doubt again from the doctor) and before he realized it, he was distracted from his original goal.

“Huh... I should probably get a backpack,” he said to himself as he stared through a shop window. Knowing it was a good idea to do so, he went in and bought a dark-blue messenger bag, placing his important documents inside so they wouldn’t get lost.

Once he left the store, he noticed a bar across the street. Deciding that he might as well get some food before he fainted, he crossed the street and entered the place, the bell ringing to signal his entrance.

Inside was a dimly lit area with a murmur of conversation filling the air. It looked almost identical to a restaurant, except there was a rather well-furnished bar in the center of the room. Jun turned to the waiter to his right and spoke.

“Excuse me, could I get a place to sit and eat?” he asked, gesturing towards the non-bar area.

The waiter bowed. “If you would follow me, sir.”

I’ll never get used to that “sir”.

The waiter led Jun to a table rather close to the bar, pulled a chair out, and handed him a menu. Before he left, however, Jun called for his attention.

“Ah! If it’s alright, I already know what I’m going to order,” Jun said, trying to hand the menu back. The waiter raised his eyebrows, but nonetheless took the menu back and pulled out his pen and pad.

“I’d just like a hamburger and fries, please,” Jun ordered hoping that they had some. Thankfully, the waiter nodded, jotted the order down, and left.

“Eh heh, since I’m not an idol anymore, I can afford to eat this just once,” Jun grinned to himself.

Soon enough, the burger was set down and the heavenly scent wafted into Jun’s nose. He drooled.

“Itadakimasu~”

He wolfed the burger and fries down at an impossible speed, finishing in 5 minutes. Other patrons in the restaurants looked warily over at him as he did so, some disgusted while others were heavily amused.

Once the last of the fries went down his throat, he chugged his water down and burped.

So maybe being a guy ain’t all that bad.

Jun paid the bill and was about to leave, humming happily to himself, when something caught his eye.

No way...

Sitting at the bar, drink in hand, was a very tipsy thin girl who looked far too familiar to be true. She was silently crying like there was no tomorrow, and the bartender looked at a lost as to what to do.

“Uhh, Miss, I think you’ve had enough to drink...”

She continued to sob and ignored the man.

Jun gulped, hesitantly walked over to the crying girl, and tapped her shoulder. “Rena... chan?” he asked.

Much to his shock and surprise, the thin girl whipped her body around and latched herself on Jun, sobbing into his chest now while he awkwardly wrapped his arms around her and patted her back. As he held her, he thought he might have heard her cry “Jurina... Jurina...”

Giant daggers of guilt stabbed him in the chest.

“Uhhh, sir? Do you know this young lady?”

“Yes, I do,” Jun hesitantly answered. Technically, he did, but Rena only knew him as Jurina, who was dead and gone.

The bartender debated with himself before letting out a sigh. “Listen, I’m not supposed to just let drunks out with men who didn’t come in with them, but you seem to know her and she seems to know you. I think.” He looked at the clinging lady. “Can you get her home?”

Jun reluctantly nodded.

And so he found himself carrying Rena Matsui on his back as he went through the train station, got on the train to Rena’s home area, and trudged through the now-dark streets. Somewhere along the way, the girl had fallen asleep on Jun’s warm back and so her crying had stopped.

Rena’s warm breath tickled Jun’s neck as he fought to keep his blush under control.

So on day 2 of being dead, he had already met the person he loved and was now carrying her home. Jun was now very suspicious of a higher power messing with his life.

“Jurina...” Rena gently sleep-talked, shifting her head slightly around on Jun’s shoulder.

Again, guilt hit Jun hard as he heard the girl say his old name and he stopped moving. He...

He had reduced Rena into a drunken mess. The Rena he knew would never drink, even though she was legal because she hated the smell and taste of it, similar to her extreme dislike of meat.

He swallowed hard.

Looking around, he found the familiar Matsui house and quietly slipped past the front gate and to the doorway. The door-light lit up above his head as he reached into the soil of the potted plant beneath the doorbell and pulled out the spare key.

“Good thing I still remember where that was...” he sighed. He brushed some dirt off the key and then inserted it into the door. With a click and twist, he unlocked the door and nudged it open, setting Rena gently down at the entrance and removing her shoes.

His face glowed red as he touched her feet, his eyes wandering up her smooth legs to her thighs and...

He slapped himself. “Bad Jun...” he frowned.

Focusing his eyes solely on Rena’s shoes, he finally took them both off and then removed his own. He winced as he felt a twinge of pain run through his back from carrying Rena for so long, so he took off his messenger bag and placed it by the door.

“Here we go,” he said, hoisting Rena up in his arms and carrying her bridal-style up the stairs.

He turned the knob to Rena’s door open and walked inside. It seemed like nothing much had changed from the last time he, or rather, Jurina was in here. He laid Rena gently down on her bed and went to the bathroom, wet a towel, and walked back to the sleeping girl. Carefully, he wiped her face off, cleaning the dried tears off her face while gazing at her peaceful beauty.

You know... even if it kind of sucks to lose my other life... I’m grateful for being able to see her again...

Once finished, he pulled the covers over the girl and tucked her in lovingly, brushing some hair out of her face. He hesitated.

Ah, why not. She’s not going to remember any of this anyways...

With that, he leaned down and placed a gentle, lingering kiss on her forehead.

“Good night, Rena-chan.”

He slipped out of the bedroom, down the stairs, picked up his bag, and left the house, locking the door behind him.

All of this was done so quickly that he never even realized a slip of paper had escaped his bag when he lifted it up, and it was now laying innocently on Rena’s shoes...

A/N: There you have it. Bam. WMatsui moment. But Rena's not actually awake for it 8D

That's not what I meant. I mean, the real Jun isn't remember anything at all. But Jurina who's in Jun's body remember anything clearly.
I'm a little disappointed with Rena. She must be very depressed if she actually get drunk.
I think, the paper that fell is the one with, if not important document, must be something that related to Jurina.

Nyanoha: Gender bending FTW ;D
arisa03: Nishi actually said that I'd be the more likely one to be looking up those thighs 8D
karomuwi: Here's more! XD I'm glad that you like the story. However, my real life is extremely busy, so I gotta pace myself and try to get weekly updates instead of sporadic bursts. You'll get your updates! Don't worry!
Haruko: XD Thank you! There's actually a lot I'm going to try and put in here, so some of those possibilities might come true~
yukofan: Indeed, poor Rena. ; w ; She'll get her happiness soon enough, though!
kahem: With Kojiharu comes Yuko. Prepare for madness 8D
RenaChii: Things will get better for her! I promise XD
blughise: Thanks for the comment! And thank you very much for letting me use Jun's name. Here's your update~
HashirePomeranian: Thank you very much! I hope you continue to enjoy the WMatsui goodness~
Kiri-el: Strange? XD I am a moderately strange person. Updates should be weekly, so look forward to them~
caghaunt: Oh, I see what you mean. See, the original Jun would actually be dead from the accident that killed his family, but Jurina's soul was put into Jun's body. So technically the original Jun is dead. I actually didn't know how to put this explanation into the story, so I'll just leave this here. XD
And as for Rena, I feel like she would be completely devastated to lose Jurina and would want to escape from reality. I know I would if the people I loved died, even if I really hate alcohol. For the paper, you shall see...
BlackRockAnon: LOL That might be a possibility for a shenanigan... but we shall see. XD
immortal_K: It's a little awkward with Jurina as a male, yes? But see, I wanted to make a drastic change to Jurina that would force her to become mentally and physically stronger because of upcoming plot stuff. Look forward to it~

Phew! So many responses! Thank you very much to all those who commented! It really surprised me to have so many people liking this story. Some plot stuff was explained in a response to a comment, so you can look up and read it if you like. Also, I will say this again, but my real life is very busy so updates will probably be once a week, if I can.

This is a sort of short filler chapter, but it is necessary to move things along. It's got some KojiYuu though and hilarity, so please enjoy!~

Special thanks to Nishizono for being the most BA proofreader ever~

Two Roses Chapter 4

Jun took a deep breath in and let it out slowly.

Alright. I can do this. Easy. No problem. Nothing to worry about.

He extended his hand out towards the doorbell of the house in front of him, staring a hole into the wooden door and anticipating the worst. Reluctantly, he pressed the button and heard the doorbell ring.

Ding dong!

He winced at the noise.

There was a giant shout followed by a loud thump as something fell near the door, something that sounded suspiciously like someone tripping and falling on the floor. A painful yelp echoed over an exasperated sigh as footsteps approached the door. Jun blinked in confusion. What could possibly be going on in there?

Slowly, the door inched open and Jun found himself staring up at his familiar idol friend.

“Uh. Hi,” he dumbly greeted while lifting his hand up in a feeble wave.

Kojima Haruna stared at him. He stared back, taking notice of her red, puffy eyes and disheveled appearance. He gulped. Another wave of guilt crashed over him.

He moved his hands and waved them in front of her face, checking to see if she was still alive. “Hello?”

Suddenly, out of nowhere, Haruna grabbed onto his hand and clutched it tightly, causing the poor boy to jump in surprise.

“Jurina?” she asked, all the color draining out of her face.

Jun froze. How was he supposed to answer that?

A second later, Jun found himself on the ground as a small weight tackled him to the ground in a hug. All the air left his lungs as his body landed, making him see stars in his vision.

“Jurin-” an overjoyed Yuko shouted, before she blinked. In a flash, she was groping Jun’s chest and patting it down, a look of confusion spreading across her face.

“Uhhh... can you not do that?” Jun winced, awkwardly trying to shift Yuko off of him. Then he felt something down there being groped and he yelped, shoving the small girl quickly off.

“Nyan-Nyan! This is definitely not Jurina...” Yuko stated as she stood up and placed a protective arm in front of the still shocked Haruna.

Jun sweatdropped. “Listen, before things get out of hand... I’m Kojima-san’s cousin,” he introduced, reaching into his bag for the papers.

He looked down at the stack in his hands and paused. The first sheet... it was missing...

“Uhh... well, I might’ve lost my information sheet... but here! I have the signed papers that say I’m supposed to stay with you...” he offered, holding the sheets out for Haruna to take. She stepped out from behind Yuko and took them, shuffling through the papers.

“I had heard about my cousin coming to stay with me... but you look too much like Jurina to be true...”

Jun nervously scratched the back of his neck. “Ah, you see... My name is Matsui Jun... And... I’mactuallyJurinareborninaguy’sbody.”

They stared. “Come again?” Yuko questioned.

“My name i-”

“No, not that part. The other part.”

He swallowed the knot in his throat. “I’m... actually Jurina... now in a guy’s body...”

Deep silence.

Then Yuko burst out laughing, startling both Haruna and Jun and causing them to look at her. “Haha! Nyan-Nyan, do you hear this guy? He’s clearly messed up in the head.”

Jun scowled. Messed up in the head, eh?

“Yuko, a couple months ago, in that pervert incident, you were actually the one who stole everyone’s panties and bras as they went to bathe and hid them in a laundry bin. I know because I was the one to help you.”

Yuko immediately shut up as Haruna turned her menacing gaze upon the small girl.

“Haruna, a couple days before the accident, you told me... that you and Yuko would be here for me,” Jun recalled, slightly embarrassed at bringing that moment back up. “Er... what else can I say to convince you?”

Yuko rubbed at her chin, almost as if she had a beard, and thought for a moment before suggesting, “Well, you can start by paying for dinner...”

Jun grinned, knowing the proper response to this. “That depends. Are you eating Haruna tonight or not?”

Kojiharu turned bright red as Yuko burst out laughing, giving Jun a hearty high-five as he snickered at the two.

“Guess you really are Jurina, eh?” Yuko confirmed, still in a fit of laughter. Jun calmed down and gave a relieved smile, holding two thumbs up in a Jurina-esque style.

Haruna sighed but smiled happily nonetheless. She bonked Yuko lightly on the head and turned around, her back now facing the two at the doorway. “Come on, get in here. It’s dark out and not safe.”

Yuko and Jurina looked at each other and exchanged gentle smiles as they heard sniffling noises from Haruna’s turned face.

Again, that guilt dug itself into Jun’s chest.

Jun skipped inside and gave Haruna a surprise hug, burying his face into her back while Yuko closed the door. “Don’t worry. I’m alive and well, Haruna,” he whispered, trying to reassure the crying girl.

Haruna sobbed harder. “You idiot. I’m just so glad that you’re... you’re...”

She couldn’t continue as she started to hiccup, Yuko now coming over and hugging her too with tears in her own eyes. The three of them stayed in a group hug as Haruna calmed down and hugged Yuko and Jun tightly against herself.

“C-Come on... let’s go eat...”

And with that, the new family (Jun is Haruna’s cousin after all) went to enjoy their first meal together.

“Oh, and Yuko? Don’t you dare think you’re off the hook for that incident.”

---

Dinner passed by with much tears and laughter as Jun recounted his experiences that led up to the accident and what happened immediately after. Haruna and Yuko listened attentively, nodding their heads occasionally or inserting a comment here and there.

Eventually, after the dishes were washed and the leftovers put in the fridge, it got to the point where Jun had found Rena at the bar. The room became deathly silent and still as Jun explained to them about what happened and how he had gotten her home.

“She... was really drunk, guys. I was actually kind of scared for her at one point during the train ride,” Jun told them, voice cracking as he held back tears. Men didn’t cry, right?

Haruna laid a hand on his shoulder and looked straight at his eyes. “Jun, she’s really taken Jurina’s death hard. She blames herself entirely for the incident,” she stated. “You should have seen her after we got there and the body was carried away. She...”

Haruna grimaced heavily as she remembered the moment. Yuko continued for her. “She wouldn’t let go of your body, Jurina. She was crying and clinging to your... bloody corpse for as long as she could.”

Jun swallowed hard and blinked rapidly to clear his increasingly teary vision.

“The point is,” Haruna said, “that after we got her cleaned up, we left her to her own devices, which was a big mistake. Yuko and I... we should have known that no matter how much a person hates drinking, he or she will do so when the need becomes great enough for them to abandon their sorrow.”

Yuko patted Jun’s head and frowned guiltily. “It’s our fault, Jurina. We left her alone during the time when she needed us the most. We just thought she could use some space, but that was so stupid now that I think about it.”

Jun removed Yuko’s hand and took a shaky breath in. “No, it’s my fault.”

Yuko tried to pacify the girl’s guilt. “It’s not your fault, Jurina. If it’s anyone’s, it-”

“No, it’s my fault!” he yelled, smashing his fists on the table and causing water to spill out of the cups. Silence reigned over the room as Jun breathed heavily, trying to calm himself down.

“I...” he whimpered, “I just... couldn’t bear the thought of losing Rena... so I dove in front of that truck without thinking... but this is somehow just as bad...”

Haruna sighed and shook her head. “Jun, listen to me,” she commanded, clutching his shoulder tightly. “You were given a second chance, and Rena is alive. Use this chance, Jun. Use it to help her back on her feet. And-”

“We all know you are hopelessly in love with her, kiddo~ So go and get her~” Yuko sang out. Haruna facepalmed.

“That’s not how I was going to put it, but that’s the basic idea. Jun... you and Rena can still be happy together.”

Overwhelmed with so much support and hope from his friends, Jun finally gave in and cried his heart out, letting out all the tension and confusion he had been experiencing for the past day and a half. He sobbed, and sobbed, and sobbed, all while Haruna and Yuko continued to comfort him and made sure that he knew that he was not alone.

Finally, his cries quieted down, and he smiled his first real smile as a man.

Sure, everything that had happened so far was traumatic and insane, but he knew he could make it through somehow. With his friends at his back, he would be alright.

So how was it? Do not fret, some WMatsui will come in about... 2 chapters 8D

'Cause I'm mean like that~

Oh. Now I understand. JUN is dead. HIS BODY is now used by Jurina for her second chance.
Jun Matsui is Kojipa's cousin, who is Jurina's friend from AKB.
Now KojiYuu know that Jun is Jurina. And they want to help Jun to get Rena back.
The paper that fell earlier is his information sheet from hospital which probably will lead Rena to Jun.
But there's something missing. That AKB's no dating rules. Especially with a guy.
How can Jurina -Jun- get Rena back if there's a rules that forbid it? And Jurina is a boy now.

blughise: The funny thing is, is that I already did what you requested before you even requested it. Look forward to it. ;D
immortal_K: Rena shall be healed soon enough! ...I think...
karomuwi: Life is indeed very busy. Thank you for the support. XD
arisa03: You are my Sensei forever~
Nyanoha: Hereeeeee'ssssss yourrrrrr updaaaaaateeeeeeeeeee~ And don't cry so much, Mama D:
RenaChii: AND HERE YOU GO~
kahem: O: How about a Doctor Jun danso? With Rena? "I will heal your heart" LOL
Kiri-el: I also hope the end will be good. ;D
haruhi16: Kojiyuu is the best kind of support  :thumbsup
BlackRockAnon: PFFTTTTT, I'd go straight for Jun ;D (I'ma gay, btw LOL)
caghaunt: Ah, those rules. Don't worry about them. They won't really factor into this story... and it's not because I'm making them disappear. The rules are still there, but they won't be important.
Haruko: I think I remember Jurina once saying Yuko was her oshimen? Or was that someone else? LOL Either way, I believe they would be a troublesome pair if they spend more time together. 8D
endless14: Ahaha, everyone wants the jealous Nezumi. But we shall see, depending on how much time I will have in the future.

Thank you everyone for all your kind comments!

And here's the picture of Jurina dressed up as a guy ('cause I thought ya'll would want to see the picture that started this fic LOL): Hello There Sexy~ (http://s854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/co426e/?action=view&current=tumblr_lpvvghRvzo1qbj9jlo4_500.jpg)

Well... I usually try to stay ahead before posting chapters and have a reserve chapter just in case I don't write enough... I didn't expect to use it so soon OTL
Anyways, here you go~ Threw in some more pairings for all you people with different OTPs.

As always, special thanks to Nishi for being awesome and sorting through my writing~

Two Roses Chapter 5

When the sun burned Jun’s eyes open in the morning, he immediately groaned, turned over in his uncomfortable bed, and buried his face in an unfamiliar pillow.

He quickly rose up afterwards once he had gotten a whiff of his own scent. Boy, did he smell terrible. It seemed like what people said was true: Guys stank a lot worse than girls.

“Ugh... I don’t even have clothes to change into after I shower...” he mumbled, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. He was sure that Haruna wouldn’t have any guy clothes lying around either. Deciding that he might as well shower off the sweat and tears from the previous day, he rolled off the bed and trudged his way out of the guest room and toward the shower room.

Without bothering to knock, he sleepwalked into the bathroom and threw his shirt off just as Haruna stepped out from behind the glass door of the shower stall.

They stared at each other, seconds ticking by in the stunned silence.

“Ahhh!!!” Haruna shrieked, running to get a towel around herself as Jun turned scarlet while covering his eyes.

“I’m sorry! It’s okay! I was girl before! We’ve seen each other na-” He was pelted with a bucket. “Ow! Alright, I get it! I’m out, I’m out!”

He sprinted out of there and shut the door behind himself, panting heavily and rubbing at the sore spot on his arm where the bucket hit him. Damn, that girl could throw.

“What happened?” Yuko yawned, coming out of Haruna’s room with half-open eyes. “Why was Nyan Nyan screaming? And where’s your shirt?”

“She was showering in there and I didn’t notice, so I walked right into there and saw her completely nude,” he sighed. “I threw my shirt off right as I got in there.”

Yuko laughed. “Seeing as how your friend down there isn’t poking his head out, I can safely assume that nothing happened,” she winked while Jun just stared, unamused by the joke.

“No, Yuko,” he retorted, “That’s your job.”

“Nice six pack by the way. Did they come with the new body?” Yuko mischievously smirked, poking the wall of flesh on Jun’s stomach. Almost as if he just realized he had a six pack, he looked down and let out a “Huh...” before slapping Yuko’s hand away.

“That’s not a six pack, idiot. I’m not that muscular.”

She kept trying to poke him anyway.

Only this woman could be so feisty in the morning, he thought to himself. How did Haruna deal with her everyday?

Right when he thought that, the door from behind him burst open and smacked him in the back of the head, causing him to let out a pathetic yelp of pain.

“Shower’s yours,” Haruna stated, walking crisply past the two and into her room, shutting the door firmly behind her.

As he rubbed his sore head, Jun then wondered how Yuko could deal with Haruna everyday. She was quite vicious when she wanted to be.

---

“Listen, I already apologized! What more do you want from me? I was a girl too, you know. I didn’t see anything that I hadn’t already seen before,” Jun pleaded while he trailed behind the still-fuming Haruna and the smirking Yuko.

All three of them were now in the shopping center of the area, going to pick out new clothes for Jun and buy him basic necessities, like deodorant and similar items. He had already received a toothbrush from Haruna (albeit grudgingly, as the girl had thrown it at his face) so at least he wasn’t walking around feeling like his mouth was submerged in bacteria.

Once they reached the first store, Haruna couldn’t hold it in anymore and finally burst out laughing. “I’m sorry, Jun, but that was too fun. I already forgave you the moment you walked out of the bathroom,” she told him, patting him on the head.

He pouted and crossed his arms over his chest. “You’re so mean!”

“Ahaha! It’s times like right now that I remember you’re only fourteen-”

“I’m actually eighteen...” Jun cut off, looking nonchalantly to the side.

Yuko’s and Harun’s eyes bugged out as they stopped walking. Jun also stopped and looked back at them, cocking an eyebrow upward in confusion. “What?”

“You’re eighteen?!” Yuko shouted. Haruna quickly clamped her hand over the small girl’s mouth before she could draw any more attention to themselves from nearby shoppers.

“Yup. What’s the big deal about that?” Jun asked. He scratched the top of his head and tilted his head to the side.

Yuko looked up at Haruna with sorrowful eyes. “You lost four years off of your life, kiddo...” she quietly explained, turning back to face the boy.

To their surprise, he nonchalantly shrugged. “I’m alive. I’ll take what I can at this point,” he solemnly stated. “No need to be too greedy.”

He went ahead to go search for clothes before they could say anymore. As they watched him leave, back turned, Haruna sighed and reached down to grip Yuko’s hand. Startled, the smaller girl looked up expectantly at her girlfriend.

“It’s not being greedy if all you’ve done so far is give...”

---

Rena knew she hated drinking for a reason. Groaning as her head pounded with her pulse, she laid there wishing she could have a nice, cool glass of water and some painkillers. A lot of painkillers. She felt like someone was beating her head with a hammer.

“Here,” someone said, thrusting a glass of water and two small painkillers in front of Rena’s swimming vision. She blinked, disoriented at the sudden appearance of the hand and looked up at the person.

“Taka... mina?” she asked, wincing as her head pounded heavily again. The captain nodded and gently handed the pills to Rena. Gratefully taking them, she threw them in her mouth, drank from the glass, and heaved a relieved sigh as the cool water slid down her throat.

The room spun slowly around her vision as she plopped back down on her bed and rubbed at her aching eyes. Could someone put her out of her own misery?

That thought sobered her up. Jurina was dead because she saved Rena’s life, and now she was wishing to waste the girl’s sacrifice. A deep feeling of self-disgust welled up inside her.

“Rena... are you okay?” a voice from the other end of the room asked. Squinting through the bright morning sun, Rena realized Atsuko had accompanied Takamina to her home.

“Yeah... I’m alright, just a bit hung over. I don’t think I drank myself into a coma though,” she croaked, reaching for more water. Taking a gulp, she continued, “What are you two doing here, though?”

“We came to check on you, Rena-san. We’re all worried for you,” Takamina explained, placing a hand on Rena’s arm. “Ju-... her... her death was hard on all of us. We’re hurting too...”

Rena winced. “You can say her name, you know. Hearing Jurina’s name isn’t going to kill me.”

Takamina let out a noncommittal grunt and looked over at her girlfriend. Atsuko, responding to the look, came over and sat down on the bed with Rena, hugging her from the side. “Just know that we’re here for you alright? Jurina wouldn’t want you to hurt yourself by drinking or anything else.”

“I’m surprised you even made it home, Rena,” Takamina remarked, sitting down on Rena’s other side.

Suddenly, a barrage of blurry and unfocused images hit her mind. “No,” Rena said slowly, “I didn’t make it home by myself...”

The ace and the captain let out an identical “Ehhh?” as they looked at Rena in confusion.

“Someone... carried me home. I wasn’t completely out of it, so I can remember... but it’s all unfocused,” she explained to them.

“Was it anyone from AKB48?” Takamina asked. Rena shook her head, wincing as the motion made her headache throb worse.

“No, it was a guy around my age... I think,” she pondered, biting her lower lip as she struggled to recall the finer details.

“A guy?! Did he do anything to you?” Takamina yelled, panicked. Atsuko quickly bonked the captain on the head as Rena winced at the loud shout.

“Stupid. Rena has a hangover. Don’t yell, okay?” Acchan told her. The captain, ever the obedient girlfriend, nodded as she clutched her head.

“He didn’t do anything. I know he would never do anything like that. I felt strangely safe in his arms,” Rena explained. A wave of pain crashed over her head as she tried recalling more memories and she let loose a cry of agony. Startled, Atsuko and Takamina both jumped off the bed and watched as Rena clutched her skull, trying to make the pain go away.

“Here, lie down again. Why don’t you get some more rest?” Atsuko asked, gently lowering Rena back down onto her bed and tucking her in. Rena offered no resistance. “We’ll be downstairs when you wake up again.”

“And we’re not leaving until we know you’re okay,” Takamina stated. With that, the two of them walked out of the room quietly and clicked the door shut behind them.

As Rena drifted off to sleep again, the throbbing in her head subsiding a bit, she thought to herself that she was really lucky to have friends like them.

---

When Rena woke up again, she felt refreshed and alive, no pain assaulting her head or body.

Becoming more aware, she retraced her memories from last night in her mind. Now, after a good rest and with a clear mind, she could remember. Stretching on the bed, she thought back to when she entered the bar and began drinking. Sometime during the evening she had become hysterical, and before long, a young man had come over to her and called her name. He was very familiar, but Rena couldn’t think of any males that she knew who was quite like him. Then he carried her on his back to the train station where she had fallen sleep on his shoulder during the ride. Not once had he made a noise since they left the bar.

He should have at least complained so Rena would feel less guilty. Strangely, she did not feel fear nor uneasiness at the fact that this man had her life and security in his hands, knew where she lived, and even knew where her extra key was. There was only one logical conclusion: She definitely knew this man and trusted him deeply.

She reached up and touched her cheek. Also... one detail that kept coming to mind... someone... that very same man who brought her home... he had kissed her cheek.

She was sure that it wasn’t her imagination.

“Regardless, that was dangerous. I am never drinking again,” she muttered to herself, propping herself up and slipping out of her bed. She checked her clock and saw that it was around ten. Time to start the day.

After a quick shower, putting her clothes on, and brushing her teeth, she walked downstairs and into the living room. Takamina and Acchan were snuggling on the couch, watching a horror movie where both of them were giggling at the bad visual effects and the cheap pop-up scares.

“Enjoying yourselves?” Rena asked, smiling knowingly at the two. They jumped off the couch when Rena’s voice came from behind them. Startled, they turned around to see Rena grinning at them in her infamous “Gekikara” style.

“Geez! You scared us worse than that movie did,” Takamina groaned. “And wipe that smile off your face! It’s creepy.”

She giggled her infamous giggle, causing Takamina to cover her ears and scowl.

Ignoring the captain’s whining, Acchan merely mirrored Rena’s smile and asked, “Are you feeling better now, Rena-chan?”

Rena nodded. “I think I’m going to go out now and get away from staying in my room all day. I can’t afford to lose myself again like I did last night.”

Acchan patted Rena on the back and smirked, “Okay! Then why don’t Takamina and I take you out shopping for the moment? Both of us need appropriate clothing for the wake tomorrow.”

Rena blinked, surprised at the offer, before she nodded. “Okay,” she agreed. With that, the three left Rena’s home for a meeting with fate.

Even as she smiled and laughed with the captain and the ace though, she couldn’t help but remember that once Jurina’s funeral came, it would be very hard to laugh again. The sense of finality that came when the body was cremated ... She tried not think about the wake that was going to happen in another day, then the cremation, then the burial at the grave-site, to the memorial services that would remind her constantly that Jurina was never coming back.

Never, never, never...

As she looked for her shoes at her doorway, her eyes caught a piece of paper lying near her shoe rack. Picking it up, she gasped and almost dropped the sheet, hands trembling heavily. Takamina and Acchan turned to look at Rena in concern and confusion as they stood outside the open door.

“N- no way... w- what...?”

*Traditional Japanese funerals/burials for those who do not know of them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_funeral (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_funeral)

Quick summary (in my own words and arisa03’s): There is a ceremony called a wake where a photo of the deceased and some incense is in the family’s house and people would visit, light some incense, and pray for the soul of the deceased (pay respects, basically). This happens for 2-3 days, then comes the cremation and finally the remains are placed in graves (like some we see in Anime). Then memorial services (which I am still not fully clear on, OTL).

Apologies in advance for any butchering of the process that may occur in my writing. Please inform me of my mistakes so I can correct them. Thank you~

Two Roses Chapter 6

“Where are you guys going?” Jun yelled over the noisy crowd, trying to catch up to the two that were currently ahead of him. He weaved through the onslaught of people rushing to various stores around the busy street to grab lunch.

Yuko shouted back, but her words were lost in the roar of people. He saw her gesture to a store for formal wear before they finally disappeared from his sight.

“It’s only day one,” he muttered to himself, adjusting the bags of purchased clothes in his hands, “and my guardians have already lost me.”

He sighed and shoved his way towards the store where Yuko had gestured to. He prayed that it wasn’t actually a lingerie store in disguise, only because Yuko would, in all likelihood, direct him to one....

--

Rena tried to calm her pounding heart and remember how to breathe.

The other two in the doorway were looking worriedly at their frozen friend. “Rena, are you okay?” Takamina asked, concerned. “What’s wrong?”

Acchan let go of her girlfriend’s hand and walked up to Rena. She waved a hand in front of the girl’s face, receiving a reaction in the form of massive blinking.

“Oh! N- Nothing is wrong. I’m sorry,” she apologized, folding away the piece of paper in her hands and placing it securely in her pocket. “Let’s go now, alright? I’ll lock up behind us.”

Takamina and Acchan stared skeptically at her before nodding slowly and walking out of the house, casting one last concerned glance over their shoulders.

Rena took this chance to pull the paper out and unfold it. On it was a picture of a young man who looked horrifyingly identical to the recently deceased Matsui Jurina, with the familiar duck face smile and bright, shining eyes. His features were more masculine, but he was undeniably similar to Jurina.

Her eyes glanced up to the top left corner of the page.

“Matsui... Jun...” she whispered to herself, quickly scanning over the rest of the page. So many things were eerily similar to Jurina’s own personal information, except that he was four years older than the girl.

Shaking, she folded the paper into eighths and placed it into her pocket. She... was going to find this man once Takamina and Acchan left her alone.

She had to.

---

Face burning scarlet, Jun walked rapidly out of the shop that Yuko had pointed at. That was not a lingerie shop. That was something far, far worse, and Jun should have known by the fact that the windows of the place were boarded up and the entrance faced an alleyway.

“I’m going to kill Yuko,” he growled, trying to clear his mind of the impure things he had just witnessed.

Right as he said that, said woman popped up out of nowhere and caused him to drop all his bags in shock.

“Surprise!” Yuko shouted, shoving a box into Jun’s disgruntled face.

“You... help me pick this stuff up!” he yelled, gesturing to the clothes that had spilled out of the bags. Yuko just shoved the box in his face again, eagerly waiting for him to take it.

Jun sighed in defeat and snatched the box from Yuko’s hands. Haruna was watching him carefully, he noticed, as he opened the box. A few seconds later, he opened the top of the cardboard cover and found a surprise: a new, dark-blue cell phone, shining in the noon sun, sat at the bottom of the plastic mold inside the box.

He hesitantly picked it up. “Woah... so that’s where you guys disappeared off to. Why’d you get me a phone?” he asked, sliding it open and running a thumb over the keypad.

Haruna raised an eyebrow at him. “You’re eighteen: I don’t think you’ll be staying in the house all day. Now I have something to contact you with,” she explained. “Plus, having a phone is a good way to call for help if you need it. Do I need to say more?”

Jun shook his head and bowed slightly at the waist. “No, no, thank you very much, Kojima-san.”

She pouted and pulled the boy up. “Why are you bowing? It’s just a cell phone. And don’t call me Kojima-san! It makes me feel old.”

“Ehehe, Haruna-san is acting like an actually responsible guardian. I was having second thoughts there when you guys ditched me,” Jun chuckled, trying to swat Haruna’s hands away as she tried to ruffle his hair.

Shopping bags were thrust into Jun’s arms as Yuko started to pick up his clothes.

“Oh, thank y- OI! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?” Jun yelled, chasing after Yuko as she pulled a pair of newly-purchased boxers over her head and started running away.

Yuko stuck her tongue out and used her small size to her advantage, darting through the crowd as Jun and Haruna tried to shove their way through. “Catch me if you can~” she taunted. “I’m already long gone~”

“Yuko! Get back here! You are an idol! An idol, you idiot!” Haruna screamed.

Jun frantically sprinted down the sidewalk, pushing against the human waves crashing against him. “Yuko, wait! Sorry!” he apologized, accidentally knocking a woman in a suit over. He stopped to help her up. Indignant, she cursed at him and slapped his offered hand away, getting up by herself.

Bristled at the offence, he pouted. “Geez, I said I was sorry.”

He tiredly sighed and ran a hand through his bangs. His day just kept getting better and better.

Oh wait.

He surveyed his surroundings and only saw the sea of people converging back and forth. His friends were nowhere in sight.

“I... just lost Yuko and Haruna...” he groaned, tearing at his hair. Heaving another sigh, he strolled down the street at a resigned pace and wondered what he should do. His new cell phone wouldn’t have any power, nor did he even know Haruna or Yuko’s numbers anyway, so that option was out.

Great. He had his cell phone for not even five minutes and he was already in trouble.

---

He’d been wandering around for at least an hour when he finally decided to sit down and stay put. On the bright side, he at least had money to support himself and knew how to get home. On the other hand, he didn’t quite want to go back yet. The afternoon sun was comfortable, while the familiar and pleasant smells of the park calmed his mind. He couldn’t remember the last time he had come out to the park between performing, photoshoots, and other idol work.

It was bizarre not having something to do or a place to be.

“Man, what am I going to do with myself?” he asked no one in particular, plopping down on a bench and letting the bags on his arms fall down. There was always someone watching over him, whether it be his manager or his (previous) parents, so he was never alone. “Hmm...”

Whistling to himself, he laid down on the bench and reveled in his new-found sense of freedom. “Well, not much I can do now. No use thinking ‘bout it.”

With a yawn, he drifted off under the shade of an overhanging tree.

---

“Hey, are you there?”

His cheek twitched as something poked him in the face.

“Hey, hey! You awake?”

That high-pitched voice was getting annoying...

“You better wake up soon...”

He was tired! Why couldn’t the kid talking understand!? He just wanted to be left alone.

“Well, too late now.”

Too late for what?

“Remember: This is your second chance. Don’t be afraid to attain happiness.”

---

With a huge convulsion, Jun returned from the land of dreams and, in a daze, stared straight into the blinding light of the afternoon sun. He yelped as his irises were overwhelmed by a flare of orange, red, and yellow. As he rubbed at his pained eyes, seeing stars flying across his vision, someone spoke up.

“Are you okay?” a concerned, familiar voice asked.

Startled, the boy toppled off the bench and looked up. “Y- Yeah, I’m fi-”

He choked. The person who had asked about his well-being bent down to check up on him, brushing a lock of hair back from across her own face as she stared into the boy's eyes. Desperately, Jun tried to back-crawl away and only felt the hard wooden bench dig into his back. There was nowhere to escape to.

“What’s wrong?”

Well, uh, there are quite a lot of things wrong at the moment, but what I’d really like to do is-

He heard a sharp intake of breath as the girl recognized him. “Ju... ri... na?”

Jun winced. Why couldn’t he catch a break?

A/N: Ahaha, get it? He had a meeting with "fate"!

The wait kills me... This is the last fan fic I'm reading here in JPHIP. All the others I was following haven't updated.... DDDDD:

As always, excellent work Vanui!

As for the ROCK necklace, I got it custom made. Material is clay so it was easy for them to replicate the necklace. On mine though, I purposely told them to lay off the rhinestones since it's going to be worn by me, a guy. :P

I'm sorry to say that I'm kind of stuck on the next chapter of Two Roses, but fret not! I have something else to make up for it while I try to overcome this block.

Please enjoy this~

Special thanks to Nish for PRing this like a boss :on GJ:

Fire!

The sound of chalk harshly smacking against a chalkboard filled the decrepit walls of Majisuka Gakuen; in a certain classroom, a hoodie-wearing girl angrily scratched characters out on the chalkboard. All across the board the words “idiot, idiot, idiot” glared out at anyone who happened to pass by to check out the noise.

“You stupid idiot, idiot, idiot!” the girl growled out as she kept writing the same characters over and over again, each stroke slamming chunks off the chalk piece until there was nothing left. She reached down and pulled another piece from a box of chalk, continuing from where she was before.

Five figures clad in green peered cautiously in from the doorway, trying to keep as silent as possible to avoid alerting the hooded-girl to their presence. They watched as she broke another piece of chalk and furiously reached into the box for the next victim.

“How long do you think she’ll keep this up?” Wota, the leader, whispered. She looked over at the other green figures around her. They looked fearfully back over to her as the hooded girl snapped the chalk piece in half with her hands.

Nezumi turned to face the doorway and took years off their lives with a glare that could give third-degree burns.

Team Hormone quickly scrambled away.

“Move! Hurry, before she follows after us!” Bungee yelped. They ungracefully ran up the stairs to Rapappa’s room and shut the door frantically behind them.

To their immediate relief, nobody followed them up the steps.

“I’ve never seen Nezumi so angry before,” Akicha panted, collapsing onto a chair. After catching her breath, she tiredly reached down to start their shiny silver cooker, while Mukuchi silently padded over to their newly installed fridge, grabbing some meat. With a unified sigh, they sat down around the fire and passed chopsticks around.

Once they got the meat sizzling, Unagi leaned back in her seat and stroked her chin thoughtfully. “Hmm... I bet it has something to do with Center...” she pondered, looking up at the ceiling.

“It definitely does,” Mukuchi quietly said. “For sure, it’s because of Center.”

“Wonder what she did this time,” Wota laughed, plucking a piece of meat off the small cooker and digging into it. The other four shrugged and followed her lead, enjoying the disgusting yet delicious taste of animal parts on a grill.

---

Staggering along the graffitied hallways of Majijo, Center clutched her stomach and leaned heavily on the walls for support as she traveled along. Lip cut and face bruised, she ignored her aching body and willed herself to go faster. She was determined to reach her goal. The girl shoved herself off the wall and swayed in the air, hands tightening into fists.

Damn the consequences of pushing her body. She needed to find Nezumi.

However, after a mere three steps, her legs gave out and she collapsed painfully onto the hard tiled floor. Center, breathing heavily from the agony shooting through her body, started to crawl along the filthy ground. Nothing would deter her from reaching Nezumi.

A shot of pain ran up her stomach to her chest, and she gasped, ceasing her movement completely. Center closed her eyes, biting her lips, and rested her head on the floor.

“Hey, are you angry?” Gekikara laughed, smashing her into a desk. Center growled and got up, ignoring the painful jabbing she felt in her ribcage. She had spent so much effort just to get Gekikara to go full-out, and now she was completely embarrassing herself.

“Not good enough,” she muttered. Trying to steady her disobeying body, she was tackled to the ground in her moment of weakness. Gekikara giggled, her insane voice ringing in the still air of the classroom. Legs spread out on either sides of Center’s body, the Queen straddled the poor girl and mercilessly beat her across the face.

Center was seeing bright, white stars at this point. Dazed and confused, she couldn’t even register what happened next.

“Nezumi...” she breathed out, finally giving to unconsciousness.

Hot lips were crashing over her own, sucking on her bleeding lip while Center felt blood from Gekikara drip into her own mouth. Once the metallic tang of the red liquid hit her tongue, she felt her arms being pinned down while she weakly struggled against her captor.

“What-”

The attacker smothered Center’s words as Gekikara took advantage of the younger girl’s open mouth. Center desperately tried to escape, but the damage from before left her too weak to do anything. She tried to use her legs to push the crazed girl off, but that only caused Gekikara to lose her balance and set her knee between Center’s legs, causing a pleasurable friction against the younger girl’s core.

This wasn’t right. No, no, no-

Just as she was about to give up, there was a startling slam at the doorway that made Gekikara finally pull away. Recollecting her mind, Center weakly turned her head to look at her savior. Her eyes widened, mirroring the look on Nezumi’s face as the mouse gaped at the scene in front of her.

“T- this isn’t w-” Center coughed. “W- what it looks like!”

To her horror, Gekikara giggled and bent down to attack Center’s lips again, before getting off the girl and staggering over to the mouse.

“Ha ha! Hey, are you angry?” she grinned, biting her bloody nails and tilting her head to the side. The crazed girl seemed to be drinking in Nezumi’s angry aura, grin widening by the second. Nezumi’s face was hidden under the shadow of her hood, but Center could tell she was more than angry. She was flat out infuriated beyond belief. Center prayed that the mouse wouldn’t do anything rash-

“You...”

Gekikara let out a gleeful grunt of pain as Nezumi uncharacteristically punched her in the face, sending the crazed girl flying backwards. However, that was not what surprised Center the most. Gekikara, who normally dragged out her fights to prolong the pain and bloodshed, tackled Nezumi into a desk and began beating the small girl senseless with a never-ending stream of fists.

“Ha! Ha ha ha! Hey, little mouse, she’s mine, got it? Mine!” Gekikara giggled, continuing to punch the living daylights out of the poor girl. Nezumi was starting to lose consciousness, groping around herself for any sort of weapon that could get this crazy girl off of her. In a moment of quick, clever thinking, the mouse gripped the edge of the desk and used that as an anchor so she could gather enough momentum to knee the girl in the stomach, successfully saving herself for the moment.

While all this was going on, Center frantically tried to get back on her feet, but her body was still throbbing with the abuse it had gone through. Gritting her teeth, she crawled over to a chair and pulled herself up, gripping it’s metal leg. She picked the chair up and slowly limped her way over to the hysterical Gekikara.

In a dramatic pause, Gekikara threw herself at the recovering Nezumi. At that exact moment, Center chucked the chair at the girl, hitting her in mid-air and sending her straight into a pile of desks. There was a sickening sound of something cracking and Center winced, starting to panic at what she had done.

She ran over to the crumpled Gekikara and turned her head over, hurriedly checking every inch of the girl’s head. She heaved a sigh of relief as she found no evidence of life-threatening damage, though whatever did happen to her was going to hurt like hell later on. As she was double-checking Gekikara’s neck and spine, a weak but vicious voice tore into her thoughts.

“So... you do... care... about her... more than... me,” Nezumi breathed out, eyes half closed in pain and squinting at Center’s blurry form.

Center’s eyes widened.

“What? No, I just-” she started, moving to approach the hooded girl, only to have her leg muscle give out. She grunted in pain as she fell flat and hit the floor. Unable to move, she looked back up, trying to convey her feelings through her eyes as well as her words. “That wasn’t me. I swear it wasn’t. She attached herself to me, and I had no say in it.”

Nezumi said nothing. She merely stood up, turned around, and silently padded out the room, leaving Center bewildered.

She never walked out on her like that.

This was bad, very bad.

Painfully and ever so slowly, she crawled back to Gekikara’s unconscious form and dragged her unceremoniously to the door, through the hallways, and to the nurse’s office (who, thank kami, was not that creepy old man anymore). Despite her pressing situation with Nezumi, she knew that Gekikara needed that medical attention. Center had a feeling that Gekikara’s aggravation that day was due to something Black had done, so everything was forgiven, but what happened was unclear to the girl, not that she cared enough to know anyway. Regardless, she couldn’t just have left the girl there when she had thrown a chair at her and caused unknown damage.

Ignoring the nurse’s insistence for her to sit down and be treated, she forced her body to leave the room and seek her savior...

The first thing she noticed was the smell of smoke. The black scent was mixed with the obnoxious rings of a never-ending bell. And was it just her, or was it really hot? It was almost as if-

Something hot exploded near her face, causing her to jerk awake in pain as she screamed. A scalding heat whipped across her closed right eyelid, leaving a wake of burning agony to simmer on her skin. Her mind struggled to keep sane as the pain overwhelmed her senses, her mouth letting loose strangled screams. Before too long, she was hacking her lungs out from the sudden inhale of smoke.

As her coughing fit subsided, Center managed to calm down enough to open her left eye and observe her situation. Needless to say, it was very, very grave.

The hallways were alight with a blazing storm of glowing red, orange, and yellow flames, while the objects around her were distorted by the effects of heat waves. She was, unfortunately, laying in the middle of a giant, suffocating cage that would end up killing her by either burning her alive or poisoning her lungs beyond repair.

In short, she was in the middle of a fire: weak, defenseless, and unable to escape.

“So... this is how it ends, eh?” Center darkly chuckled, noting how pathetically weak her voice sounded. “Damn that Team Hormone. They must have set this place on fire with their damn grill.”

With sweat coating her entire body, she tried crawling her way to the window. Her right hand protectively hovered over her burned flesh, unconsciously thinking that it would relieve the pain. Once she traveled the two feet across the hallway, she slowly hoisted herself up using the windowsill as a ledge. Center started coughing heavily once she stood up. The higher she was, the more the air was poisoned with smoke, just like she had always read about.

Already feeling the oxygen around her depleting, she pulled her right hand back, centered her mind, and punched the window out.

Glass shards exploded, her fist burning alive with agony. Thankfully though, the smoke was starting to flow out the newly created opening, giving Center a couple more minutes to live. She leaned against the wall under the window, slid back down to the floor, and weakly started pulling at her uniform. It was so damn hot.

“I just had to be on the second floor, didn’t I?” she muttered to herself, sweat pouring down her face. The fire was getting closer. She relaxed against the wall and closed her eyes. Might as well go out in a comfortable position.

Time passed rather quickly as her brain became more muddled and fogged up. If this was what dying felt like, it wasn’t so bad. The pain was disappearing, vanishing, and leaving a faint throbbing behind. The sounds of the fire and the nauseous smells around her faded away, her world going black and her body floating in limbo.

---

“How is it? The view from here, all alone?”

She looked up. “It’s great,” she rolled her eyes. “Whether I look at the scenery over there, or the scenery over here, it’s my choice.”

“But, if you’re alone, you can’t relate,” she pointed out.

She scoffed. “If someone tries to relate this and that about the scenery-” her voice turned sour here “-it’s just annoying.”

She smiled for half a second. “What do you think I’m thinking about right now?”

“When you’re alone, you don’t have to answer those kinds of stupid questions,” she spat out.

Silence. Then-

“It’s sad,” she remarked.

She turned over to look at the girl. “What’s the matter?” she darkly grinned. “This isn’t like you, Center.”

“I want to talk with you, Nezumi,” she stated, voice powerful and strong.

Her eyes flickered up towards Center’s face, surprised, but said nothing.

“Right now,” she told her, eyes focused on something distant. “I was thinking about you.” She moved her head towards the hooded girl. “About what it is that I could do,” she softly murmured.

“It’s none of your business.”

“Right,” Center repeated. “It’s none of my business. Even if they don’t want to, butting in on other people’s business is what-” Center finally turned and looked at Nezumi “-friends do.”

She remained silent for a few seconds. Then she stood up, trying to get away. “That’s heavy,” she responded, trying not to care.

Center’s forceful footsteps followed hers. “You’re the only one in this world I feel this way about!” She grabbed her arm. “We’re friends, right?”

Friends?

Shut up. SHUT UP.

… I’m sorry, okay?

I take back what I said that day. I take back those punches I threw at you, the pain I inflicted upon you.

Just... please, come back to me.

Center, where are you?

“Center...” she muttered, scanning the crowd huddled outside the burning school. “Center, please be here. Please be safe...”

There was Gekikara being cradled by Black, the two whispering to each other quietly at the edge of the crowd, lost in their own world together. Team Hormone was being scolded heavily by the principal and getting bonked on the head every couple seconds, their heads facing guiltily towards the ground. Shaku and Gakuran were laughing by themselves over by the school gates, completely absorbed in their own flirting time.

Why did no one notice that Center was gone?

She...

She wasn’t still in the building, was she?

To her horror, she noticed a window on the left side of the building suddenly shatter, a fist sticking through the broken shards. The brown sleeves along the arm of the fist could only belong to one person.

Nezumi gritted her teeth.

“Center, don’t worry. I’m coming for you. I won’t leave you alone,” she quietly promised. Steeling herself, the mouse locked her eyes on a window that she knew would lead to a stairwell. It seemed that the flames were weak underneath the part of the building where Center was, so she should be able to make her way up safely.

She reached into her mysterious black backpack and pulled out a bandanna. Tying it over her nose and mouth, Nezumi quickly calculated what else she needed to pull off her daring rescue.

Screw waiting for help. By the time the fire department got here, it would be too late.

Besides, she trusted them about as far as she could spit her gum.

---

She was getting close. She could feel it. Death was slowly making its way into her skin, burying its scythe deep into her soul.

It wasn’t long now.

Center only wished that she had a chance to say goodbye to Nezumi and set things straight with her. It would also be nice if her sexy face wouldn’t be marred by the burning fire. That way she could be buried looking pretty attractive.

… That attempt at lightening her situation was terrible.

She tried to laugh but only managed to cough weakly. “In eternity there is no time, only an instant long enough for a joke,” she quoted, recalling various Hermann Hesse quotes. She coughed again, winced at her burning lungs, and felt the sting of her burned face. “Some of us think holding on makes us strong but sometimes it is letting go...”

She was ready to die. “Gaze into the fire, into the clouds, and as soon as the inner voices begin to speak... surrender to them. Don't ask first whether it's permitted, or would please your teachers or father or some god. You will ruin yourself if you do that.”

She grinned to herself, feeling at peace in the middle of the firestorm.

“You’re such a Hermann Hesse nerd,” she smirked, approaching from behind.

Heh. She could picture Nezumi now. The girl’s beautiful figure was against the backdrop of the fiery flames, livid at Center’s stupidity.

“Often it is the most deserving people who cannot help loving those who destroy them,” she sighed out, recalling the various memories she had of the hooded girl - good and bad. “When you like someone, you like them in spite of their faults. When you love someone, you love them with their faults.”

Hermann Hesse just knew all the right things to say, especially when it concerned the girl that she had devoted her life to. Center knew that Nezumi was incapable of liking (loving) her back, but that was alright. As long as she was safe and happy, Center was satisfied.

Which was why she wasn’t afraid when the ceiling suddenly collapsed close by.

The flames licked her arm and she flinched, but that was all. She was more absorbed by her delusion, the ghostly image of Nezumi bending down in front of her and picking her up by the shoulder.

“You know... for a hallucination, you feel pretty real,” she groaned, the smoke getting to her head. Her body was absolutely coated in sweat by then.

Much to her surprise, the “ghost” responded, “Shut up, you idiot. I’m real.”

It took Center a full five seconds to comprehend what she had said as they stepped over burning wood and made it to the staircase. “N- Nezumi?” she asked, horror spreading across her features. “No, what are you doing here? You should be safe outside and-”

“And leave you here to die? You might be a flirting fool, but I would never leave you to die,” she growled. Then added, in a quiet whisper meant for herself, “Never again.”

Center heard anyway, even among the roar of the fire. “I’m sorry,” she apologized.

Nezumi grumbled some more, helping Center down the last step of the staircase and hobbling over the window she had broken to get in.

“Come on-”

The ceiling exploded down on them in a flurry of flames, wreckage separating them. Once all the foundation, chairs, and desks finished raining down upon them, Center found herself pinned underneath a particularly heavy piece of steel foundation. Nezumi was nowhere to be seen.

“Nezumi! Are you alright? Nezumi!?” she screamed, desperate to her the little mouse’s voice. “Nezumi, you better be kidding me. Where are you? Come out already!”

No response.

Center quelled the growing panic within herself and tried to get her legs out from underneath the heavy metal to no avail. “Nezumi, seriously, stop playing around. Show yourself!”

Nothing.

No, this wasn’t real. This was a nightmare. Nezumi, she had to be-

Suddenly, her head burst open with pain as something from above came down and smashed into her head. Then she knew no more.

“Center!”

She gasped heavily and took deep breaths of air, left eye springing open. Immediately, her right eye throbbed in pain as she returned to consciousness. A tentative hand reached up to feel cotton and gauze covering most of the right half of her face, masking a painful injury she knew was there. Her left eye looked straight at the only other occupant of the room.

“Nezumi...” she whispered. The familiar bare room they were in could only be Nezumi’s personal apartment. The bed she was laying on smelled like Nezumi, further confirming her whereabouts.

The hooded girl said nothing and gently placed her hand over Center’s. The injured girl felt the combined warmth from their hands seep through her bandages.

She leaned into the touch. “You’re alright.”

“Yeah, thanks to you. Those men got your eye, but-”

That was right. Center had been cut through her forehead, across her right eye, and down her cheek by a pocketknife a few hours ago when she and Nezumi had been attacked on their way home. It would scar, she knew, and it hurt, but she didn’t regret her actions. In fact, she rather liked the idea of having a scar similar to a certain anime character’s or that lion’s from a Disney movie.

“No, I... I had a bad dream,” she stated.

She looked expectantly at her.

“We had a fight with each other, then those idiots from Team Hormone set the school on fire. Then I was trapped inside, and you came to save me... But then I lost sight of you after the ceiling caved in on us, and I thought you had died,” she whispered, reaching to grasp the girl’s other hand tightly.

Nezumi’s eyes softened. “If you’re not going to die on me, then I promise I won’t die on you, Center.”

Center’s form relaxed visibly. Completely defenseless from attack, Nezumi, shocking Center, leaned forward and laid a light, butterfly kiss on the bandage over where her eye would have been. She pulled away slowly, face burning red.

“I... I think I realized something today when you were laying on the ground and bleeding. I-”

Center cut her off by capturing Nezumi’s lips with her own. After a moment of bliss, she pulled slowly away and left their foreheads touching, her breaths labored from her pounding heart.

“I know, Nezumi. I know. You don’t need to say it.”

Nezumi seemed stunned for a few moments before her face formed an embarrassed and cute pout. “H- how would you know wha-”

Needless to say, the two of them found themselves speaking very little that evening.

“You know quite well, deep within you, that there is only a single magic, a single power, a single salvation...and that is called loving. Well, then, love your suffering. Do not resist it, do not flee from it. It is your aversion that hurts, nothing else.”

-Hermann Hesse

Take your time, dude. Don't force yourself if you got stuck.
CenNezu. With a slight BlackGekiCenNezu.
Team Hormone. Can't be forgotten. They always added some comedy.
Looks real. But somehow a little part of me disappointed that it was a dream.
Still, that was a good, great work.
Keep up your good works!

Thank you for all the kind comments everyone~

I sincerely apologize about the delay for this chapter, but I had such a hard time trying to figure out what to do. It took me 4 rewrites to come to this.

T A T

Please enjoy~ And special thanks to Nish for her epic PR skills!

Two Roses Chapter 7

“Ju... ri... na?”

Jun remained mute and petrified. The girl stared with wide eyes down at him, mouth parted in surprise. Both seemed unwilling to speak and converse about the issue at hand; the girl because she did not know what else to say, and Jun because he didn’t want anyone else to know about him. In the small likelihood that his former friends actually believed him (Yuko and Haruna were the exceptions. He would be living with them, and they would have eventually believed him with constant observations and conversations if they hadn’t already acknowledged that he was Jurina), there would be a multitude of problems. First of all, he was a man. A man hanging out with an idol forbidden from dating was obviously going to attract a lot of unwanted attention, and he didn’t want to jeopardize his friends’ careers (again, Yuko and Haruna were the exceptions. He would be considered family, after all).

Second of all, if word ever got out to Rena, then any chance of him rebuilding his relationship with her were slim. Rena had always been more down to earth than Jurina ever had, and thus she would never believe that he was Jurina. Not until he proved it to her, anyway. And that was the plan: get close to her as Jun, convince her that he was Jurina, and they would live happily ever after.

If, however, he just blurted out to her, saying he was Jurina, then he could kiss Rena goodbye. Not literally, of course.

That meant the best course of action would be to avoid his friends until he had met up with Rena and spoke with her first, something he was still afraid of doing. He blamed his fear on the fact that his mind was still that of a fourteen-year old’s.

Luckily, his savior came in the form of a sexy and cute goddess.

“Mayu? Mayu, where are you?” a light, gentle voice called out from across the park. The girl in front of Jun jumped and turned to look for the owner of the voice, almost as if she was a puppy obeying the command of her master.

Remembering that the CG idol was not programmed for running, he took advantage of her distraction (a.k.a. Yukirin) and launched himself off the ground, praying that his manly legs would get him out of reach. He heard a surprised shout of indignation behind him, but he didn’t dare look back.

Which was a good and bad thing, though it didn’t prevent him from slamming into a massive man dressed in a black business suit and sporting a pair of dark sunglasses. Jun looked up and choked on air as he became petrified at the man’s stature. Oh God, he had run into a man who looked like he could pound Jun through the nearest wall and toss him effortlessly to the side as if he were nothing more than a rag doll. Upon closer inspection, he realized the man had jagged scars running across the bits of his visible face. He stammered to hack out an apology as the man (whose hair was cut military style) merely waved down at him and walked away.

What. What?

Jun struggled to breathe as his heart pounded relentlessly in his chest. That had not only been a close call... That... That had also been...

He knew that man. Jun twisted his face in concentration and tried to remember. Surely if he remembered being Jurina, he wouldn’t forget a face like that in any lifetime. Then it came to him.

That was the man who had pushed Rena out into the street.

With the realization, Jun whipped his head around and frantically searched for the terrifying man, but he was gone.

---

“Hmmm... I’m kind of hungry. Acchan, Rena, do you guys want to eat?” Takamina asked, blushing slightly as her stomach roared. Atsuko giggled and poked the captain’s growling belly.

“Wherever you’re going, I’ll go too~” the ace grinned. Takamina flushed further.

“S- so, Rena, are you coming?” she stammered out, looking pointedly away from the predator-like grin on her girlfriend’s face. Rena gently smiled at the two of them and shook her head.

“No, thank you. I’ll just walk around a bit,” she told them. “Enjoy yourselves.”

Acchan stopped her flirting and put her serious-face on. “Are you sure? Feel free to come with us! We’re used to third wheels, so don’t feel like you’re intruding.”

Rena knew she’d be feeling like a third-wheel anyway, because she already was now. “No, no. I’m not that hungry,” she politely declined.

“Well... alright,” Takamina conceded. They looked at her for another moment, hoping she’d change her mind. She merely shook her head again. “We’ll be going then. Want us to call you when we’re done?”

Rena agreed and then watched the couple walk away before they were swallowed up by the crowd.

She dropped her false smile and sighed. No matter how hard she tried, looking at her other friends and seeing how happily in love they were gave Rena an uncomfortable feeling of someone strangling her throat.

Would she have had a chance to experience that sort of happiness if Jurina were alive right now?

No, no, she mustn’t have those thoughts. Rena couldn’t afford to have those thoughts. Ignoring the painful constricting sensation in her chest, she concentrated on the roar of her stomach. Takamina had the right idea: it was lunch time after all. With a quick glance around, she spotted a bakery and made her way inside.

---

Hands shaking, Jun winced at the loud ring the bell made as he pushed open the door to the bakery. This was just the place to escape the massive crowd outside and also get something to eat. His stomach had been complaining after his near heart attack, something his heart still beat furiously from. Geez, what were the chances of meeting that man again? And... damn, what if he was imagining it? Maybe he was really going crazy? Because everything else that had happened so far was unreal.

He missed his normal life. Then again, if he recalled correctly, he had thrown his normal life away when Jurina became a part of SKE48. He signed himself up for this.

Heaving a dejected sigh, he trudged over to the treasure trove of delicious pastries and bread hidden beneath shining glass. At least food wouldn’t let him down. He approached the counter and waved over at the attendant. When she didn’t respond, he called out.

“Hey, can I get something over here?”

“Excuse me, can I order?”

… Eh?

Jun turned to his left and felt his heart stop. And as he gazed upon the elegant beauty of Matsui Rena wrapped up in a scarlet scarf and dressed in a warm black jacket, he thought, I’m really gonna die at this rate. Like, really die. No more coming back to life as the opposite sex. Though if I died at this time and did come back to life, would I come back as a girl? Ah, but then I couldn’t possibly be Jurina because she’s dead, or if I did, then I’d be a zombie or someth-

“Ah, I’m sorry sir. Please, go ahead,” Rena smiled at him. Before long, the smile slipped off her face and a look of surprise replaced it. “You...”

Jun braced himself, swallowing heavily and wondering if his face was red or turning blue. Judging by the burning sensation all over his skin, he was probably flushed scarlet. Not that the situation here called for blushing, but it was as if a veil had been removed from his eyes and he was really seeing Rena for the first time.

“You’re Matsui Jun, aren’t you?” she asked, smiling up at him again.

Jun blinked a couple times.

Then he blinked a little more.

Finally, he dropped the shopping bags in his hands, gripped his hair in one hand, and slapped himself with the other. “Ow, okay, that hurt,” he whimpered. So this was real then.

Rena stared worriedly at his strange behavior. “Are you alright?”

“I... Y- you... aren’t going to say anything about me looking like Jurina?” he asked, incredulous. Rena cocked an eyebrow at the question.

“You may look like her,” she said. “But... you can’t be her, so what’s the point in saying anything?” A bittersweet smile settled across her features and she looked away. Jun gulped, knowing he had screwed up.

“So... how did you know my name anyway?” he questioned, determined to change the subject. Rena started from her reverie, reached quickly into her purse, and pulled out a folded piece of paper. Quickly unfolding it, she thrust it in front of his face.

“I think you might’ve left me a gift that night you took me home,” she grinned. Jun gawked at the sheet.

“This is my information sheet! I wondered where it went! Geez, I must’ve dropped it in... your... house?” His mind registered the entirety of Rena’s sentence. “Wait, you remember me taking you home!?”

She seemed amused at his panic. “Some parts are hazy, but overall, I do remember quite a bit of it. Like your parting gift; I suppose you’ll take responsibility for that?” she smirked.

His jaw hit the floor and his face was burning. This was not what he was expecting from his first encounter with Rena. Perhaps this was a little of Gekikara showing through? “Uh... I... Uh... Y-Yes? M-Maybe? What do you mean by t- taking responsibility?”

“We can start by being friends, right? I look forward to our friendship, cousin of Haruna-san,” she pleasantly stated, offering a hand. Jun had no idea what was going on through Rena’s mind, but nonetheless, he took the hand and shook as a proper gentleman should.

“As do I, Rena-san,” he replied. He cursed the blush that still wouldn’t go away.

Perhaps this was the best possible outcome that he could have expected. After all, Rena didn’t seem too bothered by his appearance, nor was she as depressed as he thought she was going to be. Was his luck finally starting to look up?

“I wonder though... How did Jun-chan even know where I live?”

“E- eh!? That... I mean... ah! I called Haruna-san and asked!”

---

“So... let me get this straight. You accidentally ran into Mayu, yes?”

He nodded.

“And then you ran into the man who killed you?”

He nodded agian.

“After which, you met Rena-san not as Jurina, but as Jun?”

He nodded a third time.

Haruna sighed. “You know, for a person recently deceased, you’d think they’d take a little more time to think about their actions before playing around with their second life.”

“Awww, come on, Nyan-Nyan! Go easy on the kid, will ya? He’s still only a kid at heart, after all,” Yuko smiled, clinging on to her girlfriend at the dining room table. Haruna’s eyebrow twitched.

“Don’t even get me started on you, Yuko, the child who thought it was a good idea to run through the streets with a pair of boxers over her head.” Yuko immediately shut up. “Anyway, Jun, what are you going to do now? Surely you aren’t planning on telling everyone from your previous life about your true identity, right?” Haruna fixed the boy with a surprisingly hawk-like stare.

“I don’t know, Haruna-san. I don’t know,” he sighed, slamming his head against the table.

...I still don't like how I did that. Oh well. Look forward to more, yes?

Post by: Vanui on December 30, 2011, 06:46:33 PM
I am so very, very sorry for disappearing for so long. My grades dropped so hard and I needed to fix them, and now it's finals, AP exams and the ACT test coming up. My junior year is busy. Between my birthday and getting a girlfriend, life has been hectic yo. Real life has been kicking my butt, and it will continue to do so until summer. So expect Two Roses updates to be slow. Nonetheless, I will definitely finish.

This here is part one of my (late) Christmas specials. The next two should be up soon... If something doesn't suddenly come up and then I can't finish writing.

Anyways, Happy Holidays guys! Special thanks to Nishi for her awesome PRing skills. This was requested by her, so thank her for the Atsumina you're reading.

Christmas Special Part I

*-*-*-*-*Two Weeks Before*-*-*-*-*

“What am I going to do?” Takamina wailed, shaking her midget counterpart by the shoulders. Yuko, for all she could manage as she was shaken, snickered.

“Relax, Takamina. You’ve still got more than two weeks-”

“That’s not enough time!” Takamina shrieked, her knuckles turning white from the grip she held on Yuko. The small pervert scoffed.

“Then stop shaking me and get to it already!” she ordered. Takamina’s face sagged with exaggerated tears.

“B- but... I don’t know what to get her...” she trailed off, looking sheepishly off to the side. Yuko gave the captain an I-am-not-amused stare, lightly pushing Takamina away and stopping her from ripping her arms off.

“Takamina, geez. It’s only Acchan. I’m sure she’ll appreciate anything you get her,” Yuko stated, trying to calm the poor captain down. This, however, only seemed to deflate Takamina more and send her into an even bigger panic.

“That’s the thing! It’s Acchan! Acchan! IT HAS TO BE PERFECT-

Yuko slapped the captain.

“Thank you,” Takamina winced, rubbing her red cheek. Yuko nodded.

“No problem.”

“Still, what if I get her something she doesn’t like? And then she only says ‘Thank you’ out of pity-”

“For the love of all that is sexy and beautiful, Takamina, calm down! You know Acchan the best out of our giant family. I’m pretty sure you’d give her the best present out of anyone from AKB48. Just calm down, okay?” Yuko sighed, rubbing her forehead in irritation. “Is it really that hard to find a Christmas present for your girlfriend?”

“What, and you already have?” Takamina pouted. Soon after, her face went pale at the feral look on Yuko’s face.

“Oh, I have the perfect present planned for Nyan-Nyan, involving red lace and little clothing,” she grinned, giving Takamina terrible mental images and sending her into a flushing mess.

“O- okay, I’ve heard enough, you pervert. That still doesn’t help me find a present for my girlfriend, and no, I refuse to do the same thing as you are,” Takamina rejected, seeing the look on the pervert’s face as she opened her mouth to shoot her the suggestion. Yuko childishly stuck her tongue out, completely contrasting with her impure personality within.

“Alright, fine. Get your stuff together. I’ll go help you look for one! Operation: Find Acchan a perfect gift has begun!”

*-*-*-*-*One Week and Five Days Before*-*-*-*-*

“No. Yuko, no. That is NOT happening,” she growled, looking at the skimpy Santa-themed lingerie hanging on the racks around her. However, despite her protests and Yuko’s knowing grin, her mind drifted to Acchan’s flawless legs exposed by the skimpy outfit, trailing up to her figure highlighted by the tight red cloth, to her smiling face and her perfect lips parting to say, “Merry Christmas, Minami.” She would pull the captain down to the couch, her face highlighted by the orange glow of a dying fire in the fireplace, an alluring gleam in her eyes...

“Oi, oi, Takamina! You still there?” Yuko clapped her hands in front of the captain’s face, causing the poor girl to jump and blink rapidly. “I didn’t think you had it in you to fantasize about Acchan.”

Takamina turned bright red. “I was doing no such thing!” she squeaked, turning the other way and blocking out Yuko’s grin.

“Sureeeeeeee,” Yuko snickered. Takamina’s nostrils flared in annoyance as she turned back and bonked the other midget. “Fucking hell!” She smacked Yuko again.

“Language,” she scolded. Yuko grumbled something about “Nyan-Nyan” and “sleeping on the couch,” but Takamina pointedly ignored her and walked away.

“Fine! See if I help you again, cap’n!” Takamina promptly came back and bowed in apology. “Right, let’s see what we can do...”

Ten stores and five hours later, they were still empty handed.

*-*-*-*-*One Week Before*-*-*-*-*

“Okay, okay, I still have time. I can do this,” Takamina chanted to herself. Hands stuck in her pockets, a scarf wrapped around her neck, she was fully prepared to trudge through the cold weather and finally find her girlfriend the perfect Christmas gift. After a week’s worth of hard dance practice and recording, she was up and ready for a day’s worth of walking.

“You know, talking to yourself is one of the first signs of insanity,” a voice from behind her said. Takamina let out a girly shriek and jumped. Turning around quickly, she faced the owner of the voice.

“Miichan!”

“Hey~” the mischievous idol greeted. She winked in playful manner and stuck out her tongue, eyes twinkling in laughter.

“You gave me a heart attack, Miichan,” Takamina cried, comical tears streaming down her face as she clutched her chest. Her friend patted her on the head.

“I should say ‘sorry’, but I’m not really, so I’ll spare you the insincere apology,” Miichan laughed. “You’re not normally this jumpy anyways. What’s up with you, cap’n?”

Takamina pouted, smacking Miichan’s hand away. “N- nothing,” she answered, trying to avoid embarrassing herself again in front of a friend. Miichan would probably just laugh at her again if she told her what the problem was.

“Uh-huh,” Miichan said, not convinced. “Right. And Mayu and Yukirin can keep their hands off each other for more than five minutes, Yuko is not a pervert, and Jurina is not a pimp.” Takamina frowned.

“You’re making fun of me, aren’t you?” she pouted. Miichan gave her a thumbs-up.

“Yep. Now come on, tell good ol’ Miichan what’s wrong!”

“No.” With that, the shorty marched out the door and into the bustling streets. To her annoyance, there were footsteps following her. “Please, I really need to get this done, Miichan. Don’t you have other things to do?”

“Not really. I already got my Christmas shopping done,” she told her. Skipping lightly, she continued to follow Takamina all the way to the bustling streets of the shopping district. “It looks like someone here still has to finish up her own Christmas shopping, though.”

“Yeah, alright. Fine,” Takamina growled. “You want to know what’s wrong? I’ll tell you. I can’t find Acchan the perfect Christmas gift!” Miichan cocked an eyebrow at her outburst.

“That’s it?”

“Wha- Yes. Yes, that’s it,” Takamina spat.

“Pffttt, come on, cap’n. This is the reason why you’ve been looking like a zombie during practice? Are you really losing sleep over this?” Miichan’s cheeks were puffed up in restrained laughter.

“... Yes,” she meekly affirmed. Miichan chuckled and patted the captain again.

“Just go with whatever, you know? Acchan’ll love you no matter what you get her, even if it’s a piece of coal. Well, okay, then she’d wonder who put you up to doing that and I’d probably get slaughtered... so don’t do that!” With another pat, Miichan turned around and started walking in the opposite direction. “See ya, cap’n. Good luck!”

“B- but... you’re not even going to help me? Miichan? Miichan! Miichan... Why did I even tell you anything in the first place?”

*-*-*-*-*Ten Hours Before*-*-*-*-*

“Hmm? What I got for Yukirin?” Watanabe Mayu asked. Takamina nodded her head.

“If you could please tell me, I’d really appreciate it,” she requested, putting on her puppy eyes. Mayu stared incredulously at the captain.

“You haven’t gotten Acchan a gift yet, am I right?” she smirked, a sadistic grin spreading across her face at the captain’s panicked look.

“I WAS ONLY ASKING ABOUT WHAT YOU GOT YOUR GIRLFRIEND, OKAY?” Takamina shouted. Mayu winced and covered her ears.

“Geez, okay. All I’m getting Yukirin is something involving red lace and little clothing-”

“You’ve been talking to Yuko, haven’t you?” Mayu stifled her laughter and nodded.

“In all seriousness though, Yukirin and I are going to eat at a nice restaurant and cuddle up on the couch to watch some movies afterward. I got her a nice necklace as a gift, but what’s most important is that we spend time together,” Mayu explained.

“Spend time together, hmm...” Takamina hummed to herself, rubbing her chin in thought. “Thank you, Mayu! I owe you one!” The small captain sped off in a rush, leaving Mayu chuckling to herself.

“Man, Takamina. There is such a thing as trying too hard, you know...”

*-*-*-*-*Christmas Day*-*-*-*-*

They were sitting on Takamina’s couch, snuggled comfortably together in a tangle of limbs, Takamina on the bottom while her ace planted herself between the captain’s legs, back to her chest.

“I had a good time today, Minami,” she gently said, words as soft as a cat’s purr. Takamina buried her face into the back of Acchan’s neck and hummed in agreement, hands playing with Acchan’s longer ones.

“As did I... I have one last present to give you, Acchan,” the captain said, reluctantly picking her girlfriend up and setting her aside on the couch. She got up and walked over to her closet, rustling around for a moment before reappearing with a medium-sized package in her hands.

“Merry Christmas, my ace,” Takamina smiled, holding it out. Acchan blushed and hesitantly took the gift. “Well, go on, open it!”

With a rip and a tear, the holiday-themed wrapping paper was thrown to the side as a plain white box greeted her. Great anticipation gripped Atsuko’s mind as she gently lifted the lid off the cardboard box. And for good reason. Unbidden, a small squeak of surprise escaped the idol’s lips as she gazed at the gift inside.

“Wow, Minami... this is...”

The purest white dress greeted Atsuko’s eyes, a simple yet elegant design of roses on the edges of the dress. Picking it up, she noted that the straps connected seamlessly to the dress and that the dress itself would hug her curves nicely.

“It’s uhh, in anticipation for the New Year’s party. I remembered you saying you didn’t know what to wear, so I uhhh... Yeah...” Takamina’s blubbering explanation broke through Acchan’s reverie. In a split second, the captain found herself on the floor, girlfriend enveloping her in a tight hug and then kissing her senseless.

“Thank you, Minami,” Acchan grinned, lips inches apart. Takamina struggled for words as the world around spun from the ferocity of the kiss.

“Y- you’re welcome.” They gazed into each other’s eyes in silence, a restrained passion passing between them before-

“I love you, Minami.”

And then-

“And I you, Atsuko.”

*-*-*-*-*New Years Party*-*-*-*-*

Acchan fidgeted uncomfortably in her seat, Takamina by her side chattering excitedly with Kojiharu and Yuko. Her girlfriend turned around, noting her discomfort.

“Something wrong, love?”

“No, nothing,” she smiled innocently back.

Perhaps I should have told her that the dress is a bit tight around the chest area...

Well, Happy Holidays everyone! And Happy New Year! Don't you people get too drunk now!

Title: Re: Vanui's works (Because Hospital Food Sucks, WMatsui, 6/28)
Post by: Vanui on June 28, 2012, 07:16:45 AM
Errr... Hello again everyone? It's been a long while, and... Well...
I can offer excuses. Between golf, a girlfriend, and family issues... I'm also looking at colleges and getting ready for that big step. So it's been hectic. Man, I wish those days back in middle school when I actually had time to do things. But my writing was atrocious then.
In any case, Two Roses will be back on track once I have a moment to breathe. I will post a oneshot I had on tumblr but never posted on here. A rather short one as well.

Because Hospital Food Sucks

Jurina picked at the mush on the white tray, a seemingly indescribable mix of what looked like peas, mashed potatoes, and chicken, but actually turned out to be a smoothie of discolored chunks. It was, quite frankly, disgusting and unappetizing in every way.

“And they want me to get better and rest up,” she chuckled to herself, playing around with a single green pea and trying to stab it with her fork. “I feel like I’m going to be poisoned instead.”

Sighing, she moved the pea around some more before scooping up a small bit of the food, holding it up in front of her face. She sniffed. No smell. It would probably be just as tasteless, too. On the count of three, Jurina thought to herself. One. Two. Three. She put it into her mouth and chewed, swallowing after a couple seconds. Yup, no taste, only a slightly awful slimy texture. She set her fork down onto the tray and took a sip of water. “This… I know I have to eat, but…”

Fortunately, the door opened at that exact moment, and Jurina looked up, expecting to see a fussing nurse or the doctor. Instead, it was her fellow SKE48 member, and the other girl on the team who shared her surname. Rena walked in with grace and a quiet manner, holding a white convenience store bag and smiling at the girl in bed. “Hello, Jurina.”

“Heya, Rena,” Jurina grinned back, grateful for the distraction from the food she still needed to eat. Rena set the bag gently on the floor and took a seat next to the white hospital bed, smoothing the wrinkles on her skirt out.

“How are you feeling?” Rena asked, looking worriedly at Jurina. As always, the girl seemed lively, if pale, concealing the exhaustion that constantly haunted her.

“I’m alright,” she replied. “I’m properly resting up, so I’ll be out there with you again, Rena. Even if I have Team K duties too, I’ll always be a part of SKE48.”

Rena hummed. “Is that so?”

“What, don’t believe me?” Jurina cockily grinned.

“Whether or not I do, just make sure you get your health back up to one hundred percent,” Rena responded, lightly flicking Jurina’s forehead and watching the younger girl wince and pout. “Then we can talk about that.”

“Right, right,” Jurina said. Rena’s eyes looked down at the almost untouched food on the tray.

“You’re not eating?” Rena asked.

“You try eating this stuff.” Jurina made a face and pushed the tray further away. Rena softly laughed at the reaction.

“Luckily you have me, right?” Rena reached down and picked the convenience store bag up, taking out a few healthy snacks and vegetable drinks. Nothing spectacular, but anything was better than hospital food at this point, something Rena definitely knew. Eagerly, Jurina took the items and shoved her tray aside, sending an extremely grateful smile at the older Matsui.

“You are a lifesaver, Rena,” she thanked. Rena blushed a little with the amount of gratitude Jurina shone with. “But what I’d really like, though…”

“Hmm?”

Jurina wiggled her eyebrows suggestively, smirking at Rena’s lips intently. Rena blushed, fiddled with her fingers for a moment before sighing and relenting to the stubborn girl’s will. “You know you want to~”

“Alright, you flirt,” Rena conceded, bending down and placing a gentle kiss on Jurina’s forehead, her face colored with red. Jurina smiled as she felt the warmth. “And that’s all you’re getting.”

“Aww, come’on!” Jurina pouted, trying to give Rena her best puppy-eyed look. Rena bonked Jurina lightly on the head.

“Nope. Now eat and rest, okay? I have to go do some work now.”

“Work hard, Rena.”

“I will.”

“Thanks for the food and take care!”

“You better take care of yourself, Jurina.”

The door shut behind Rena’s retreating figure, leaving Jurina alone in the sterile room with nothing but some food and drinks to keep her company.
“Seriously, thank you Rena. Love you.”

Unbeknownst to the bedridden girl, Rena was leaning against the closed dear, listening to the words she just uttered and laying hesitant fingers on her warm lips.

Title: Re: Vanui's works (Maybe, WMatsui, 8/8)
Post by: Vanui on August 08, 2012, 02:39:06 PM
A/N: Something that I had to write to get off my chest. It's a lot of self-reflection, but hopefully, if you're able to stomach it all, it has its moments. Still working on Two Roses, but the inspiration has yet to come.

Maybe

Sweat. Dripping sweat. Drenched in sweat. Blood rushing. Sneakers screeching. Beep. Beep. Three. Two. One.

The loud horn went off, the clock reached zero, and all that was left was the swish of the hoop and the roar of the crowd. The audience went wild, the commentators in their compartment screaming just as hard as the fans, and the champions pumped their fists with fierce joy, jumping, cheering, whooping.

Yet, even with the rapid current of elation filtering throughout the room, Matsui Jurina wiped the sweat off her brow with a hard edge in her eyes and swept her critical gaze across the mass of people that had formed a mob around the victorious. Then, she turned toward her team; they stared dejectedly around the room, some facing the floor, others frozen at the happy smiles around them. They were defeated in every sense of the word. This was their chance to make it to the nationals, and they blew it, blew it by a long shot. 105 to 68. The basketball rolled lifelessly into her ankle, and she bent down and picked it up, playing with it in her fingers.

Somehow, she should have been right there along with her team, but all she felt was empty. Empty, hollow, sure that she would have felt the same had they won. It made no difference to her whether or not they had achieved the victory. She didn't care. Couldn't care. Not anymore.

When was the last time she had fun playing the sport? When was the last time she saw approval in her parents' eyes? It used to be enjoyable, exhilarating, worthwhile. Every win, every trophy, every cheer was worth fighting for. But now? What was the point?

Ever since her coaches began pushing for more, giving her half-empty congratulations when she won and yelling sessions when she lost (because it was all about her, not the team, and she was sick of the pressure, sick of the responsibility, sick of her teammates glaring at her behind her back), the game was meaningless. The hours upon hours of practice blurred into one another, and for all her work, she felt as if her skill hadn't improved one single bit. In fact, she felt as if she had regressed, and that every minute spent working was spent making her regret she ever started playing basketball.

There used to be a thrill in her body that made her feel alive, feel like her insides were bursting with life, when she picked up the rough orange ball. Now, as the ball lightly passed between her fingertips, she felt sick. And the ball fell from her hands, bouncing up and down a few times before the momentum disappeared and the ball rolled away across the shiny gym floor.

She and her team shuffled across the floor and into the locker rooms, silence reigning over the group. The coaches said nothing for once, simply because there was nothing to say. The season was over, and, besides, Jurina was graduating anyway. Grating metal and harsh slams rung as the team hurried to change and leave, Jurina herself moving the slowest of them all because she saw no point in moving faster. Eventually, she was the only one left in the rows of dull grey lockers and, slamming the door to hers shut, she plopped down on the wooden bench that laid in between every row.

“It's over. Finished,” she sighed, taking her white towel and wiping the sweat from her face and neck. “And now what?”

The rumble of air conditioning going through the vents above her head was the only answer she received. She sat blankly on the bench for a few more minutes, mind blissfully blank after the adrenaline started leaving her system, and focused without seeing on the knob of the locker in front of her face. Then, she forced herself up, heaved her workout bag over her shoulder, and pushed the door to the exit open.

“Ah! Excuse me!” a gentle voice cried. Startled, Jurina instinctively jumped backwards and away from the person. “Oh, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to scare you! Oh, oh, um...”

Jurina stared at the flustered woman who was frantically waving her thin arms around in confusion and stuttering with every wave. Her red glasses, sitting neatly in front of wide, beautiful brown eyes, accentuated the small mole on her left cheek, and all Jurina could do was stare, stare, stare. The woman was dressed casually in a pair of jeans that hugged her in all the right places and a red blouse that matched her eye-wear (which Jurina thought was rather cute), and if the basketball player had to guess, the woman looked to be in her early twenties. She continued to stare, and eventually, the woman calmed down and stared right back at her.

“U-um, I- I am... I mean-” The woman swallowed nervously, and Jurina found her lips curving in an amused smirk. “You're Matsui Jurina, right?”

She couldn't help herself; the basketball player laughed. “Yeah, the one and only. What can I do for a beautiful woman such as yourself?” She cocked an eyebrow and stood up a little straighter, ignoring the weight of her bag and the fact that she was a stinky, sweaty mess. The woman, however, didn't seem to take note of Jurina's less-than-perfect appearance and flushed.

“I- I'm M- Matsui Rena,” she squeaked. “I watched y- your game and found it interesting that we... share the same surname.”

Jurina saw her jersey in her mind's eye and recalled the black lettering above the red number 5. “Huh. Sorry you had to see that mess of a game, then.”

The woman, Rena, adopted only a look of light incomprehension and said, “Mess? I thought you were quite good. You didn't win the game, but you ran your plays right and you even snuck a couple points in there. That one three you had was amazing! The way you let that play run and had your teammate get triple-teamed in the paint while you waited- Oh, oh, I'm so sorry, I'm gushing aren't I, I can't even-”

Jurina blinked rapidly a couple times, and her mouth fell slightly open. Holding a hand up to stop the outflow of words from Rena's mouth, she fought for her voice. “Err, I don't mean to be offending, but... you seem to know a lot more about basketball than what you look like you do. You don't exactly fit the... typical fan image.”

Rena flushed even more. “I'm sorry-”

“And you don't need to keep apologizing. Seriously, it's okay,” Jurina chuckled, and Rena gulped and wrung her hands.

“O- Okay. To answer your question, my ex-boyfriend was a huge fan, so I kind of got sucked in as well,” she shyly explained. Jurina felt her curiosity perk up at the mention of an ex, but she didn't pry. “I just saw that... Well, I heard that... Um... There was going to be a game here, so before I knew it, I was already paying for a ticket and watching you girls play.”

“I see. Thank you for coming,” Jurina smiled. Rena didn't look like she would stop blushing anytime soon. “I didn't realize I had fans, though. Is it just our surnames that interested you?”

The woman shook her head (seriously, would this woman stop being so cute). “N- No, actually... Um... At first, your name caught my attention but your playing was amazing and I was seriously impressed, but what I wanted to say was wouldyoupleasegoandhaveadrinkwithme?”

It took a couple seconds for Jurina to decipher what was said. “Uh, drink? Sorry, but uh... You might be of age, but I am still playing high school basketball. I could go for a smoothie though. Would you like to come with?” With her smooth rescue, Jurina thought she just did a pretty good job of salvaging Rena's pride in addition to getting herself a hot girl. For an almost-date, anyway. After Rena flushed a little more and nodded, the two were out of the building and in the dusk of the city, chatting idly about the weather, more basketball, where they would be going for those smoothies (Jurina knew the best place for those), some more basketball, and then they were in the shop and ordering their drinks.

“Melon-flavored smoothies? They have those?” Jurina asked, eyebrows scrunched together as she looked over at Rena.

“You could do better than just plain old strawberry, Jurina,” Rena shot back. They mock-glared at one another before Jurina chuckled and then they were both shaking with mirth. Their drinks came quickly, and they both sat down by the table near the front windows of the shop, sipping through straws and continuing their conversation. Soon, Jurina was spewing out childhood stories, and Rena egged her on and on, eager to learn more about the younger girl.

“So I said to her, 'Don't do it', so of course she goes and does it, and then five seconds later, she's being mauled by a pack of flying geese, and they're all pecking at her head!” Jurina roared with laughter while Rena giggled into her hand. “Enough about me, though. What about you, Rena? What was your childhood like?”

“Me?” Rena seemed surprised that Jurina would take an interest in her. “Well... Nothing exciting, I don't think. I got interested in programming somehow, and I self-taught myself for a while before taking a couple classes. I'm... a pretty big nerd, you could say.” Rena looked to be in a defensive position as she confessed the fact, Jurina observed, and she knew that the older woman must have been ridiculed for her hobbies and passions often in the past.

“A nerd?” she prodded. Rena nodded.

“I love anime and manga too. I was never really an active sports participant because I don't really have the body for it, so I picked up what I could,” she confessed, fiddling with her straw.

“Ah. I guess I'm the opposite then. I could never sit still as a kid, so my mom let me do all sorts of sports until I had to choose. One thing led to another, and I ended up on the middle school basketball team and that led to high school. So here I am now.” Jurina swept her arms around and extended her arms out to the side, her body language speaking for her. Rena stared at her for a moment before smiling gently and knowingly. Jurina had changed what was a sore subject for her and directed the attention elsewhere. However, what they both didn't know was that the subject had now been changed to a sore one for Jurina.

“You don't sound... particularly happy about your choice, Jurina,” Rena quietly stated. Jurina froze like a deer in headlights, and she fumbled for a response.

“Well, I mean, I was... I was always better at running, track and field and stuff. My parents pushed for basketball though, since... since it was easier for me to get a scholarship. Though now that's kind of a failed plan because of tonight.” Jurina chuckled bitterly to herself and sipped at her smoothie. She couldn't bear to look at Rena's face, for fear of disappointment or even disgust to see that her basketball hero was such a loser, a failure who didn't love her sport. She was surprised at what the woman said next.

“Would you go back in time and change your choice if you could?” There was no accusatory tone in her voice. There was only understanding and a softness that Jurina couldn't believe she was hearing.

“Honestly? Honestly... I...”

And she turned away and looked out the window. She thought back to freshman year, trying out for the team and learning for the first time what really working for a sport felt like. What crying tears of frustration felt like, but always overcoming the frustration and becoming more skilled because of her efforts. What making friends and comrades felt like, even though the ones she valued had graduated the previous year. What pride felt like when she looked at the trophies lining her wall. What happiness felt like when the ball went through the net with a clean swish and the crowd roared and the score went up by two or three and her teammates were smacking her in the back and she felt her mouth curve into a smirk-

Because maybe that was all she ever needed to play. The feeling of the ball leaving her fingertips, the confident feeling the split second it left because she knew it was going to go in, that there was never any doubt otherwise. She had forgotten. Forgotten the simple joy of letting it fly and hearing that swish (that oh-so-wonderful swish) and maybe that was why she stopped playing the way she used to play. It was because she forgot that she could have fun, that her parents and her coaches and all their damn expectations could go to hell for all she cared. That she played for herself and no one else and that it was her sport and no one else's.

“Maybe... I still would've picked basketball.”

Rena beamed at the girl. The woman, in her mind, cheered as she saw that she had accomplished her goal. “Then maybe you could consider playing some more?”

Jurina looked over at the woman (who she now owed a lot to because her drive to play was back and it was there to stay) and raised an eyebrow. “But... my high school career is done.”

Rena reached across the table and grasped Jurina's hand, causing both of them to flush (oh, she so knew there was mutual attraction and if Rena was there watching maybe playing basketball would be that much more exhilarating). “I'm sorry I didn't tell you this earlier – and please don't think I met with you for this purpose only – but I am actually a college professor. At your top college choice. I have nothing to do with the basketball program there, and it just so happened by chance that I found you after reading your application. I saw the look on your face after your game, and I... I- I knew that expression. So college aside, I just... w- wanted to help you.”

Jurina shoved the college business aside and concentrated on what Rena hinted at. “You knew the look on my face?” she asked. Rena stayed silent and closed her eyes. “Okay, sore subject. I'll... back off.”

“I'm sorry, Jurina. Maybe another day,” she painfully smiled. “I- In any case, I know the head basketball coach, and I can definitely get you that scholarship you wanted. If you'd like, of course. It's all up to you whether or not you still want to play.”

And Jurina stared, stunned, speechless, head in the clouds (cloud nine, to be precise), and inhaled sharply. “You can do that for me? No, no wait, that's not what I wanted to ask. You'd want to do that for me? Why?”

“Because... because... something tells me that the effort to reach out to you will be worthwhile.” Rena smiled. That sent Jurina over the edge.

She reached across the table, cupped Rena's chin, and kissed her full on the lips without hesitation. As she pulled away, she looked into Rena's eyes (oh, they were glistening so wonderfully in the lights of the city) and breathlessly answered, “Then if you'll have me bothering you for the next four years, I'd love to play basketball again.”

Then they both dove in for round two, and Jurina had never felt more fulfilled in her life. Basketball had definitely been the right choice, and though she had to hit a rough spot to get here, all she had to do was concentrate on the delicate (sweet, oh so sweet) lips on hers to forget the emptiness and her parents and her coaches and the expectations and-

“W- We're causing a s- scene-”

“Shhh, to hell with them. Five years from now, they can say they saw the basketball star Matsui Jurina making out with her hot college professor before she became a national basketball icon.”

“But-”

And when Jurina woke up the next morning, she stunned her household by continuing to keep up her basketball warm ups and workouts. The ball in her hands sent electricity running up her spine, and she knew that Matsui Jurina was back (back with a new contact in her cell phone and an awesome girlfriend that she would never let go of). Time to win.

To hell with stress.

But making out with someone you just met?

Being a high schooler?

Erm... Jurina? What exactly were you thinking? XD

Just kidding. Rena is just so irresistible LOL

I wonder what would happen if they had drinks and got drunk  (subtly hinting sth *ahem*)
