since I wasn`t here in the forum around the time last single was released, I`ll write it now: didn't like the single so much, gave me a strange "afilia saga goes heisei kotohime" feeling. but liked "zero" a lot, probably their best ballad song till now.

next single looks plain but I like these costumes. I feel so guilty for not taking part in their release events or one-mans during these past few months... what a terrible fan I am.  :sweatdrop:

what a sad day. Laura Sucreine, one of the oldest members of the group announced her graduation. they`ll hold a farewell live at May 28th. she wants to pursue a "normal" life. wish her the best and boy, will it be strange not having the "sucreine!" shouts anymore during the jikoshoukai time.  :(

I just "discovered" them, not bad at all - I'll have to buy some of their stuff any recommendations?

last saturday was one of the saddest days in the group`s history. I`d say even in my whole fucking life

RAYMEE HEAVENLY ANNOUNCED HER GRADUATION. in order to pursue her dreams of being a famous seiyuu. why Raymee, you could keep both activities, the same way you was already dubbing that Hakadoll character... she was one of the most incredible idols I ever met, super tsurishi.

she`ll leave on a special show at september 29th. to substitute her (and recently graduated Laura) they announced two new members already. Momoko Little Berry, promoted from the sister group Stand Up! Hearts (and works at Shinjuku cafe) and Moe Mieray (works at Roppongi cafe). they appear to be cuter than the other four girls added past year but... I don`t care anymore. my Raymee...  so unexpected... I was sure Miku would be next in line, not Raymee who doesn`t have even 3 years completed there...

well, I`ll be jumping in the train line soon. goodbye.

and now, oficially, Afilia Saga is done. just like AKB. the corpse will remain being lifted by new faces (who will be announced in the next one-man december 23) but it's still... a corpse. the old and adorable group is over. or will be, in a few months. at the same time, Ayami, Yukafin and Louise announced their graduation.  :panic: three of the old musketeers. one of the original members. the leader of the group since it was created. two of the unarguably most important members, character wise. they have been basically the soul of this group for years, carrying the MCs and all.

Ayami will leave in february. Louise and Yukafin will announce in december, but we can expect some date soon too.

only Kohime, Miku and Maho will be left as veterans.

sorry, but this is NOT the Afilia Saga I learned to love and admire. RIP.

It seems to be the correct move by them. The group isn't getting anywhere, despite them having much publicity due to their café's. If I remember right, sales have been declining drastically as well.
Wonder if anyone of them will stay in the idol business though.

 :smhid

the group sales: Neptune Sagashite (23000 - Oricon 11th place) - SML (21000 - Oricon 4th place) - Magical Express Journey (25000 - Oricon 3rd place) - Japanesque Romanesque (18000 - Oricon 9th place) - Never Say Never (19000 - Oricon 4th place). dunno where you can point a "have been declining" pattern here. they did have a drop down on sales when they changed label from 5pb to their own recently created indie label Stand-Up! Records. kinda understandable given the circumstances. which leads to the "having much publicity" part. rofl their publicity with a small label is almost zero. and you may be forgetting that maid cafes are a niche thing in Japan, frequented only by some otakus. general public give zero attention to it. in fact most people find it creepy, specially women. better say you went to a brothel than a maid cafe. so they don't gain anything from it, rather lose potential fans by narrowing their target audience. Afilia Saga never would/will be a "big hit" from the start because of these roots on the maid fetishism that appeal to very few people. all considered they are a success to have reached where they got and I dunno where you expect they should get with the "the group isn't getting anywhere" comment. Budoukan? Tokyo Dome? first place on Oricon? only a delusional fan would expect that for them, before or even more now in Stand-Up!.

the "correct move" is also debatable. I guess the correct move is always following your wishes and pursuing your dream. so if a girl wants to have a "common life" working as an office lady (like Aria), graduating from the group now is the correct move for sure. but if one the three girls actually wants to have a career in the showbiz... only one that may have a future is Yukafin, who already does some work as MC in obscure programs and Uta Musume festivals. I kinda worry a bit with Louise since she already worked as model and race queen before, so I dunno if she can really do something different than work with her image... at this stage (age), there is not many opportunities for her out there to keep with it... unless she goes to gravure and porn. *knocks on wood*

Your criticism is understandable and in some parts well deserved. Part of it being me not really following the group. Still the only members I can name and recognise are only Yukafin, Kohime and Maho.

My comment about "them not going anywhere" wasn't in regard of sales. I meant the creative growth, as I see not much invention in neither their output nor performance. Granted this is a very subjective feeling, which I can't really undermine with facts.
The declining in sales I got from my limited infos on the group (mostly your blog :P). Thanks for correcting that. The sales figures really appear decent. Sounded much worse when you wrote about it. And to make things clear: I never expect ANY regular idol group to perform at Budokan. That isn't a criteria that increases my repect for them in any way. On the contrary I refuse publicity stunts like Babyraids show their, just performing at Budokan for the sake of it. Such event should be deserved, otherwise it doesn't have any emotional value, neither for the fans nor the group itself.

Still I am surprised about the negative effects of maid cafés you described, although your reasoning makes sense. As we talk about a form of otaku culture, I expected it to rather have a positive aspect. You know, meeting the girls easier or at least appearing to support them through visiting the café.

But to see the positives in my statement: It was worth a nice discussion :P

no, it will be only a nice discussion when we start shouting and calling each other bad names. WATTSTAX, YOU heterosexual!  :P XD

well, you gotta concede that they have a story behind them (maid students in the process of learning magic with the masters -fans/clients- guidance) that molds the group and doesn't let them have so much creativity in terms of clothing and general performance. Passpo kinda suffers from it too with the air attendants concept as you know well.

I agree on the big shows subject. doing it just for the sake of doing or for some publicity stunt is just... well, stupid. do it only when/if you have a fanbase sufficient to sell out.

even between otakus maid cafes are not an interest of the majority. you have to consider that there are a big diversity of otakus out there, although maid otakus and idol otakus do are close, at least theoretically. the part about meeting them in the cafe is definitely a plus, but don't think all their fans actually are attracted to it. you saw it how small and not crowded they are in reality. they should be always packed if all Afilia fans were to go there. if we start talking about casual (non otaku) fans, then even more! they don't care at all about their cafes just their songs, which they may have discovered from some anime.

I've been out of the loop a bit lately, but can anyone tell me if Afilia is still doing the coin reward system?
I'm planning on visiting the Grand Lodge in September. I could bring my coins if they're still using them.
I only have three Afilia coins, so I never got the two shot last trip.  :(

I also noticed the cards look different? Are the old ones still valid? I have a Blue Ribbon one from 2012...

If neither are these are still valid I guess I'll start over fresh, even though I'd lose my "experience points."

I should be able to help you here since I went not so long ago in their cafe but... in every few times I went there I always forgot to bring my card so just opted for the 'visitor pass' with no rewards, points, anything.  :nervous

I guess it still works but can't say for sure. I do noted they have some new cards, but appeared to be just a new design thing, nothing drastic on the system itself.

btw, since I don't post in this thread for ages already, just wanna register here that after the Louise graduation show I stopped following the group. Afilia turned into AKB, with repetitive songs and gimmicks, completely different lineup of members (not so interesting and pretty as the previous ones) and without my oshimen around anymore. well, technically she still is around since she turned into an 'honorary staff' kind of thing. I know she was with the group in some shows recently but... yeah, not the same thing.

cool song, cool outfit... too bad that member wise the group nowadays is a travesty. after Yukafin leaves the group will be unidentifiable.

For what it's worth, if anybody has any Kohime related goods and wants to get rid of them, feel free to shoot me a message.  :)
Afilia towel or shirt (L) would be cool too.

I gotta say I really dig their new single and I hope it will do well.
If they can break 30K in sales, it would be a nice parting gift for Kohime, Miku and Yukafin.

As far as the new girls go, they're alright. Moe Mieray is pretty cute and the others seem fun.
Tho I gotta say Kana, Momoko and Yumi kinda look alike.  :nervous
And I hate to be negative, but Nana really stands out in a bad way. I can't really see her appeal.

edit: 14,227 copies sold. That's the worst number in like five years. How is that even possible.  :nervous
