So, let's discuss~
As you know, the Korean wave has hit the Asia recently and it resulted in many Korean actors & musicians crossed over to Japanese market. Not everybody likes that (there's even a Korea hatred manga), but imo it's a good way to expand musical horizons and get to know different cultures :D
My favorite Korean artist is Lee Jung Hyun, thus I'm sharing her concert on the tracker (http://forum.jphip.com/showthread.php?p=113008)

I liked her "Man" album and the bubblegum pop "Woo~ Twenty One" then my Korean friends laughed at me, said she fell off so....I got a new fresh young body to lust over!! Lee Hyori! "Get Ya" and "Shall We Dance" still on my playlist!! Thanks to Ame and aedon :inlove:
One song still on my HD is Baby Vox's "Killer" - came from that Korean desktop b-boy program. Was in Happosai's sig...forgot what it was called.

Clazziquai isn't really Kpop. It's more laid-back techno fusion. It's made up of a DJ and two or three singers. The primary singers are Alex and Horan. Sometimes Alex's sister sings, but she's not officially part of the project.

Both of Clazziquai's albums are in this thread (http://jpopmusic.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=59057&start=0) on JPM. They're are many, many other albums there, too. I prefer their slow songs to their fast songs. They're really beautiful, such as "After Love" and "Choom." Although, "Sweety," one of their faster songs, made them very well-known.

I haven't listen to much Kpop (just never really gave it a listen). THe only stuff I have heard is a song by Cherry Filter and some stuff by Discotruck (If they're considered pop, I don't know). I heard both songs in some combo videos for Guilty Gear and I liked 'em. I got the Discotruck CD, I think it's called '1 Ton', but I can't find anything else by them or even any info. Does anyone here know anything about them?

As of right now, I've recently been into Hyori's music, and I never even liked her (because her voice was so forced) but now she's improved and so has her music.
I'm starting to get into Fin.k.L and S.E.S. as well.
DBSK boys are catching my attention, but I'm still trying to get used to their songs.
I'm still really into Lee Soo Young and Gummy, they have AMAZING voices. I hear Shinhwa more and more now and days on tv.
But most of all, I've been really obsessed with KARA and Wonder Girls!
KARA girls are so CUTE! ESpecially Seung Yun <3. I really think each of them have their own talent, and it adds up well in the group. Gyuri has gotten a lot more interesting and she looks really cool, Sunghee is finally getting out of her laid back and shy shell and being a lot more friendly, Nicole's seems to be always the talkative type and really comfortable. Seung Yun is just a silly cute goofball, looks like an interesting character.
Wonder Girls have great voices and sing well in English (as well as KARA). Though their form of English is usually in the singing type, I still enjoy it. I hope to see more English in their own songs though, and not just covers of Alicia Keys. Sun Min and Sun Ye are my favorites!

I've just discovered them.. I like the remix for that song, crazy love or w/e, but geez, I just saw a video of them performing it live, and a dancer had a seizure, and they just kept going, I know SeeYa was in the front and all, but the other back up dancers....took awhile for them to get the girl offstage.
It wasn' funny, but I just couldn't help laughing at the expressions on SeeYa's faces, they were like, so calm, not knowing anything, but something kinda tells me they saw the girl.

I've only heard of Vanilla Unity, has that screamo thing going on. I had one of their albums. It had a few catchy tunes but I wasn't all that impressed by it. Oh, there's also the punk/hardcore outfit The Geeks. I haven't heard much of their stuff except the songs they have on their myspace, but they're pretty good. There's a kick ass video of them playing a set on youtube.
I used to think Korean rock bands were nonexistent, but now they're just rare. :lol:

The Geeks are like the Korean FC FiVE or Comeback Kid, pretty cool, but yeah plain hardcore gets a bit boring after a while :lol:
Vanilla Unity's Hero is a pretty nice song. They're a very mainstream type of pop emo band, reminds me of Hawthorne Heights... and you know how much I like that band XD
The Trax are like nu-metal rap-core pop... :lol: I guess it's rock, but I didn't feel like I was listening to rock... Thanks for the upload though
There seem to be a lot of Korean guitarists but none of them seem to be in bands(with stuff you can find outside Korea anyways)
I'm sorta convinced I just don't really like Korean style mainstream music as I have yet to get into any mainstream korean artists, though I have listened to a few. And from what I can tell most mainstream rock bands will probably sound like The TRAX... It makes me wonder if they have ever heard of good guitar tone? >_>
Cherry Filter isn't exactly rock >_> but I like it. I liked what I heard of Youjeen's solo stuff more though(and that might be cause it's made for a Japanese audience?). I might need to look for some stuff.

Can you tell they're going for a retro feel? Haha. I prefer they're R&B-influenced sound, though. My favorite track is number 2 "Ibaboh." Sun Ye sang it in the first season of their reality show. Yoo Bin, the new member who replaced Hyun A (she left the group due to health problems), is quite cute. :wub:

And anyone know any details about the accident they were in on Sep 14th? I was reading their wiki and it had this posted:
On September 14, 2007, all five members (including their manager and stylist) were hospitalized with concussion and other minor injuries after an early-morning traffic accident returning from a performance at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology in Pusan. The van in which they were travelling backended a taxi, killing the driver of the taxi and injuring nine others. The group has since cleared their schedule and is not planning to perform at least until early October.
Sounds crazy, the references were in korean so I couldn't read up on it.

wow being in a fatal accident... that's scary as hell, especially for young girls. I guess it's a good thing that none of the girls were seriously injured. If the taxi was rear-ended, I'm guessing the driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt >_>

that was pretty bad ass.
Really liked TPL, BoA's singing part near the end was awesome and she was really hot.
Thought Promise You sounds a little too much like a commercial jingle though. But I guess the songs sort of are.
Jin Bora's piano really made the songs really nice I thought.
The video was really good though. Liked their outfits and fashion style; subtle use of many colors, layered, and plaid with scarves, sorta like what I've been wearing often lately :P

^ As far as anyone knows so far, i-13 disbanded, the korean youth population didn't like them and saw them as Super Junior wannabes or a lame attempt at being a Morning Musume clone thing. =T
That and at the time they debuted it was during the time when guy groups were the most popular thing =T

The Korean population also didn't like the fact that i-13 had really young members in it. They think 12-13 year olds should still be focusing on school and not worrying about showbiz. For those of you that do like i-13 though they're supposedly going to be making a come-back. This time with fewer members and some new members. Last rumor I heard was that there was going to be about 6 girls, and only 2 originals. They're going through a name change of course, and supposedly supposed to comback early-mid '08.

watching a couple of the Brown Eyed Girls members fighting on the SGB Taeyeon and Sooyoung were on, I thought they were hilarious and I really liked the way GaIn sings so I looked for some songs. And I'm liking what I'm hearing from their second album and recent mini album. Besides singing well, GaIn has this cute charm about her that I'm liking. And it seems they're also performing on the Peace Concert here. :D

Well, Park Bom and CL have been in other YG songs. I love Park Bom's voice, she's one of the most underrated vocalists out there, I really hope she gets her chance in the spotlight with this group. CL is an AMAZING rapper, Odango and daigong have linked stuff of hers on the previous page, and those that know me know how much I heart Sandara Park. Thanks Ping! Haha, she's awesomeness. Known as the big3 upcoming boybands with BEAST and MBLAQ, group Child Of Empire will have their debut next year in January!
The group which have been gaining popularity through cable channel reality program will have their official debut. Initially the group has been called ‘rivals’ to new idol groups BEAST and MBLAQ, but their debut was pushed back much to many fans’ disappointment.
The group recently did their MV filming in GyeongGiDo. With that, they has been preparing for their debut coming January. Much anticipation to their debut and upgrade in dance and vocal skills since the group members have shown its capabilities through their appearance on the reality program.
In addition, the group has received’lovecalls’ for CF even before debut and the group has also done filming for 3~4 CF before their official debut coming up strong as a newcomer group.
A staff revealed, “The boys will show vocal and performance better than what fans will expect. Even though their debut was pushed back, they have been preparing for it. And they have been waiting for their debut.”

Popular K-pop songs will now be listed on a local music chart resembling the United States' Billboard Charts, enabling both fans and artists to further enjoy, protect and spread K-pop music.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Music Content Industry Association launched the ``Gaon'' Charts at a hotel in Seoul, Tuesday, with hopes that it will create a more systemized and reliable music industry.
The word ``gaon'' means ``middle'' or ``center'' in Korean, and it was chosen to represent fairness and reliability.
Compared to U.S.'s Billboard Charts, which was launched in 1940, and Japan's 42-year Oricon, the local chart may be a bit late on the international music scene, but experts are expecting it will work as a well-balanced and an upgraded version of music charts.
The Gaon Chart is based on both online and offline data of album and music sales. It has ruled out radio airings, which play an important part in the Billboard Charts, and decided to focus on the transaction between music and buyers.
``It was only last year when we started this project. We have done many things to protect the rights of our musicians and their works, and I believe this chart will help as well. Music charts work as a bridge that introduces, spreads and exchanges musical contents to the world, and I believe this will be a chance to nurture the music industry,'' said Culture Minister Yu In-chon.
The local chart is divided into five categories: the Gaon Chart, Digital Chart, Online Chart, Mobile Chart and Album Chart.
The Album Chart sums up album sales by six major album distributing firms such as LOEN Entertainment, SM Entertainment, Sony Music Korea, Warner Music Korea, Universal Music and Mnet Media ―while the Mobile Chart will estimate the best selling ringtones and caller ring tunes each week. The Online Chart will calculate music source sales, online album sales and streaming services. Finally, the Digital Chart will sum up Online and Mobile Charts, while the Gaon Chart will present the final list that accumulates all of the top results. The Gaon Chart will be released once every six months, while the other four will be released offline and online on a weekly basis.
Online results will be made by calculating data given by top music Web sites such as Melon (www.melon.co.kr (http://www.melon.co.kr)), Dosirak (www.dosirak.co.kr (http://www.dosirak.co.kr)), Mnet (www.mnet.com (http://www.mnet.com)) and Cyworld (www.cyworld.com (http://www.cyworld.com)). According to the association, the offline and online data will be those based on the results made by approximately 97 percent of Internet users who purchase music online.
Meanwhile, popular girl band Girls' Generation and boy group Super Junior took first place in the digital and album sales categories last year, respectively. According to the association, Girls' Generation's ``Gee'' was the most popular song, while Super Junior's ``Sorry Sorry'' sold the most albums throughout Korea in 2009.
Steve Choi, the director of the Korea Music Content Industry Association, explained that the online estimates needed more polishing, as they have not yet come up with a definite strategy on how to calculate online data.
``The Gaon Charts you see today is not the final product. It's the beginning of Korea's official chart and we need to polish it up for the time being,'' he said.
Indeed, the Gaon Charts is in its infancy. It is yet to be released in other languages other than Korean and still has a long way to go to be acknowledged by fellow countries. While major charts such as the Billboard Charts and the Oricon Charts categorize their system depending on the music genre, radio airings and type of albums, respectively, it has categorized its charts based on online and offline sales. This had made it a leading charting system in the digital age of music purchasing, but whether it will successfully be embedded in the music industry remains in question.
``We have never had an official music chart, despite the popularity of K-pop around the world. The music industry has changed drastically thanks to the Internet, and the Gaon Charts will be in the forefront of such changes in both technology and music distribution,'' said Bang Geuk-gyun, the head of the Korea Music Content Industry Association.

It sounds like the successor to MIAK. Hopefully it works out. There hasn't really really been anything since it shut down. Hanteo and Hot Tracks are too confusing and only cover a certain portion of sales and stuff.

So, I randomly found that for Asian Heritage month, Comcast OnDemand has an Asian Entertainment menu selection. And under music, you can find KPOP MVs (among other kinds of music)! MC Mong got into trouble
Singer and TV-show host MC Mong, 31, was booked without physical detention Monday on suspicion that he had healthy teeth extracted to dodge mandatory military service, police said, Friday.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said MC Mong whose real name is Shin Dong-hyun intentionally delayed entering the army by making various “false” excuses and intentionally had three of his healthy teeth pulled out to receive assessment grades in physical checkups low enough to be exempted from fulfilling his military duty.
Police said he had delayed being conscripted for 422 days since 2004 when he first received the conscription notice. The popular entertainer was found healthy enough for active duty as a soldier after his first physical checkup in August 1998.
Police will refer the entertainer to the prosecution on charges of violation of the military service law. The president of the agency representing MC Mong and a broker who helped arrange MC Mong’s draft dodging were also booked.
MC Mong has denied the draft dodging allegations. Before the issue surfaced, the popular entertainer appeared in “1 Night 2 Days” on KBS and the “Haha Mong Show” on SBS.

The song is a joke about Ojingeo-korean slang for ugly guy and Doejjang(soy bean paste) nyuh(girl)-slang for gold digger. I didnt know Doejjang nyuh meant gold digger either before this. Pixy are a group that debuted this year, loved their debut single "Wings", a great start. Particularly love the pre-chorus and how dramatic everything gets. Some minor issues with the rapping etc but definitely in my top 10 shortlist. :thumbup

Source Music's new girl group Le Sserafim just made their debut. The line-up conissts of Sakura and Chaewon (ex-IZ*ONE/PD48), Yunjin (PD48), Kazuha (Japanese ballet dancer), Garam & Eunchae.
Song's pretty good, but the visuals are pretty insane. Good times.

Massive surprise debut out of nowhere! (well, relatively) NewJeans is a kpop group from HYBE's independent label ADOR, masterminded by Min Heejin of SM entertainment fame (creative director behind a lot of SM stuff, notably f(x)'s Pink Tape etc).
They're just casually debuting with FOUR music videos and a shitload of content. HYBE has burned a lot of that BTS money for this and it shows, everything is immaculate. Concept is early 2000's pop.
On top of that... the music is good! All of it! Very chill, very pleasant. International vibes.
