Popular AKB48 member Atsuko Maeda (18) recently auctioned off three autographed personal items for charity, and she managed to raise a total of 1,256,000 yen for the Japanese branch of Green Cross International. The auctions were conducted through Yahoo! Japan between October 19 and October 26. The items on sale were a bench coat available only to AKB48 members, a set containing a pajama top and two scrunchies, and a bag she used during junior high school. The bench coat sold for the highest amount, opening at ¥28,000 and closing at ¥501,000. The pajama set closed at ¥404,000, even though it opened at only ¥1. The bag attracted the least bidding, but still sold for ¥351,000 from an opening price of ¥35,000.

It's a win-win-win, imo. Win for the fans who bought them (collectible!), win for Acchan (fame!) and of course, win for the charity (money and awareness!). I think it's a pretty worthwhile cause, as well.
