What's your favorite WKW movie??   :pimp:

One of his most underrated and unknown is:
Ashes of Time (1994)

Wong Kar-Wai's first (and currently only) wuxiapian is the most uncompromisingly complex film of his career. It also displays his continuing maturation as a director, as its presents the sum of his previous films' themes. This film is one of a kind: a thinking man's martial arts melodrama with very little action. It features some of the biggest stars in the business giving excellent performances, Christopher Doyle's usual magnificent visuals, and William Chang's predictably sublime art direction. AND action by Sammo Hung Kam-Bo

DOWNLOAD @ THE ASSHOLE 50 posts baby! How hard is that?

Think of it as "Hero" before "Hero" .... more deep story. RIP Leslie.

^ Yea. That was the most surprising. Normally I wanna throw Leon Lai into a vat of shit but MAN how can you go wrong with Michele Reis masturbating to his trash XD

Watch that, then watch Ashes of Time REDUX. Should be even more WTF lol

What's your favorite WKW movie??   :pimp:

My Top 5 WKW Flicks
1. Chungking Express
2. 2046 (One of my favorite romance movies)
3. Fallen Angels
4. In the Mood for Love (Gotta love the chemistry between Maggie & Tony)
5. My Blueberry Nights (Norah Jones' performance was weak but the movie was still decent)

I tried watching Happy Together but that opening gay sex scene was just too much :bleed eyes:

One of his most underrated and unknown is:
Ashes of Time (1994)

Man, that's one WKW flick I just don't understand. It did have a couple of nice action scenes but the plot was a mess XD

The Wong Kar-Wai films I've seen:

1. Chungking Express - Such a cute movie in it's own way. The main characters are adorable lol, except for the girl in wig
2. 2046
3. Chinese Odyssey 2002 - oops not directed by him, but I'll put it here anyway because I liked it :D
4. Happy Together
5. Ashes of Time

I tried to watch "In the Mood for Love" twice, but I guess I wasn't in the mood for Wong Kar-Wai because I wasn't able to finish it either time. I'm older and more patient now so maybe I'd like it more if I gave it one more try, though.

I also have Fallen Angels on DVD, but I haven't watched it yet...

Thinking about it, I like Wong Kar-Wai's storytelling of romances. I thought his movies were too artistic and slow-paced for me, but now that I think about it again, maybe I really do like them lol. Just haven't realized it before XD

Brigitte Lin comes out of retirement for Wong Kar-Wai’s THE GREAT MASTER

Rejoice Brigitte Lin fans!  The Taiwanese actress who’s been retired since 1994 is set to make a comeback in Wong Kar-Wai’s The Great Master.  As with the last year’s biopic Ip Man, this film is also about the martial arts practitioner of Wing Chun and the mentor of Bruce Lee.  The good news of the goddess’s return was cited from Yip Man’s son, Yip Chun but on what capacity of her role is not determine yet.  Most people familiar with her previous films may remember her best in the wuxia film The Bride with White Hair as the vicious man-hating witch.  Both Lin and Wai has collaborated before in Ashes of Time and Chungking Express.

Wong Kar-Wai's THE GRAND MASTER Finally in Production (Sina.com)

After being in preparation for many many years, Wong Kar-Wai finally began shooting his long-overdue The Grand Master. The movie is about the life story of martial-artist Ip Man, who has been portrayed recently by Donnie Yen in  Ip Man and Ip Man sequel. According to a Chinese newspaper,  the cast include Leung Chiu-Wai (playing Ip Man), Zhang Ziyi and Chang Chen. The shooting will be done from December 12 to April 18 of next year, in Chikan Studio of China's Kaiping City in Guangdong Province. That's all we know so far.

Grand Master casting update:

Gong Li - now confirmed on the cast list. She will play the head of a martial-art clan.

Zhang Ziyi - will play the wife of Ip Man, the character portrayed by Leung Chiu-Wai.

Brigitte Lin - looks like Wong is still in talk with her. The odds of her joining the movie are unknown.

Thanks for posting those, dai. Chungking Express is one of my favorite movies ever. I remember catching it on TV once many years ago -- it was the final act, with Faye Wong; I didn't know what the movie was, only that I loved what I was watching. Years later I found out what it was, and was able to find it and enjoy the full film. I still love it.

Of Wong Kar-Wai's other films, I've seen 2046, In the Mood For Love (which I watched in reverse order -- I saw 2046 a couple of years before I saw In the Mood For Love) and Eros (his segment was definitely the best).

I still haven't seen 2046 I admit. It's not much a sequel, but Wong always uses references from past films. Even in things he produces like 'Chinese Odyseey 2002'

And he reuses actors LOL like in Grand Master

And another eight years for the movie to come out!!  :w00t: :catglare:

Film 'The Grandmasters' Poster Exposed

Director Wong Kar Wai's upcoming film about wing chun master Ip Man "The Grandmasters" (一代宗師) has been put on hold for nearly 8 years and it was not until last year the team officially started filming. Although the film is not done filming nor the release date has been confirmed, but at least one of the film's posters is finished, as it has exposed in the American Film Market.

In this American version poster, lead Tony Leung Chiu Wai's version of Ip Man is fighting against his enemies in the rain and his stand makes him powerful already. Foreign media even describes Tony as the Chinese dark knight.

Martial arts choreographer of the film Yuen Wo Ping greatly praises Tony's current status for the film's action scenes. "I never worried about him," he says, "Talking about body figures, Tony looks better than Donnie Yen. It is unbelievable that there is strength in Tony's kicks. He does have the potential to film action films."

Another photo from the film is leaked and it is the female lead of the film Zhang Ziyi. Her role is yet to be introduced, but based on the photo, she is playing someone who should be skillful in using Ba Gua Zhang.

In addition, some netizens actually suggest to name the film "Yeahman" instead, seems like they want to bring Ip Man into the foreign superhero family (like Superman, Batman, Ironman, etc).

'The Grandmasters' Releases New Poster in Berlin
    2011-02-10 16:34:24     CRIENGLISH.com       Web Editor: Cui Chaoqun

With white straw hat and black long suit, Tony Leung's look in "The Grandmasters" ("Yi Dai Zong Shi") is described as the dark warrior.

On the eve of the 61st Berlin International Film Festival, director Wong Kar-wai's action film "The Grandmasters" released new posters in Berlin, Mtime.com reports.

Tony Leung plays Yip Man, master of the Wing Chun martial art. The poster shows a fierce fight scene involving Yip Man on a rainy night. Another poster shows Zhang Zi Yi, who is also a martial master.

Since "The Grandmasters" released its first poster for the American Film Market, it has attracted the world's attention for its filmmakers and cast.

Director Wong Kar-wai has earned international fame for his film "In the Mood for Love" ("Hua Yang Nian Hua") and "My Blueberry Nights". The action director of the movie is Yuen Woo Ping, who is also the action choreographer on "The Matrix" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".

The film also features Korean actress Song Hye-gyo, who plays Yip Man's wife. Zhang Zhen and Zhao Benshan will play martial art masters in the film.

The film is now being shot in Guangdong province.
